I woudln't recommend putting MP Acid Storm in your carry-on as the crush potential in the overhead locker is too great and I think he's just a bit too big to fit under the seat?

Of course the easiest way is to not give a damn about resultant condition of the packaging
On a couple of occasions I've had large TFs boxes as carry-on luggage, and they've faired better than checked-in luggage usually does. Mostly because I have more control over what it comes in contact with. I'll usually be one of the last on, so I can make space for it in the over-head, and keep an eye on it until it is closed in case someone else tries to cram something else in there.
One was the Kreo Devastator Vs Ironhide set (all the way from America - it was too big to fit in my luggage), and one was the BH Ultimate Optimus from Sydney.
