The best way I've found is to install a little add-on in Firefox called Video DownloadHelper.

Once this is installed, you need to check you also have the Converter add-on. In Firefox, go to Tools, DownloadHelper-> right at the bottom, then click on Preferences. Check under the Conversion tab whether you have it or not. If not, follow the prompts to download and install that too.

To use, simply go to the Youtube vid you want, and next to the vid title to the left you will see a little blue, red and yellow balloon icon. If you click on it once, it downloads the vid automatically, but if you hover over it and click on the down arrow to the right instead, you can select various options first.

I've always used this add-on for any Youtube vid download and it's well worth the install process, which doesn't take very long. Hope this helps.

I had that on my old computer for several years. It was very useful, but when Firefox upgraded to version 15, it was incompatible with my operating system and Flash version 11, so wouldn't let me see FLV content from any site. The only way I could view FLVs was to downgrade to Flash version 10, but then I couldn't play them back, as it was now an outdated driver.
I might have to convert them to play them now, so that's probably where the converter comes in... which I never got because I never needed it.

But if you are using Firefox, just go to the "Add ons" tab in the menu, and search for add ons... type in FLV downloader or flash downloader, and it will actually give you about a dozen programs that it supports to record videos from sites like youtube.

    I like to use KeepVid - http://keepvid.com/

They're free, easy to use, just paste the link, and you can select several different file types. Usually use this for lengthy news segments or documentaries on Youtube that I want to load onto the iPhone.

Region Coding on DVDs is so infuriatingly archaic, when the specific set/discs aren't even offered for sale in your country; I had to go through so much garbage last night just to be able to put a 200X He-Man DVD Disc in my PC & play it.

I guess it didn't help that the supposed 'Region-Free' DVD/Blu-Ray Player I have, isn't actually that at all.

We use VLC player for that, too. Apparently it can bypass the region coding on your PC's DVD player when WMP won't. Worth a try.

You're dead right! - If you're still using RPC-1 standard Drives... Sadly, I'm using a pair of RPC-2 Drives and had to obtain & use a 'Buffer' program, which presented its own set of issues.

    Currently, I'm using:
    • VLC - Player
    • AnyDVD - Region Code Buffer
    • ASUS DVD-R/RW Drive - Reader

The disc/s are Region 1 & my Drive is Region 4; AnyDVD negates the need for me risking the limit of 5 Region Changes each PC Disc Drive's Firmware permits , NOW I can literally put the disc in & hit play.

Ah, good to know! At least you got yours working in the end.
    Stoopid unnecessary Region Coding...
