They were also sold in Australia and New Zealand too. They were made for the European market which is why they're commonly referred to as "European exclusives," but the fact is that they were definitely sold in Australasia as well. Most of what Hasbro made for the Euro market we got in Australasia too.
(e.g. 1991 Action Masters, Motorvators, Autobot Rescue Force, 1992 Constructicons, Predators, Turbomasters, Lightformers, Trakkons, Skyscorchers et al.)
euro/aus(nz) release.
In early 1993 Hasbro released these toys in the European/Australasian market -- it was before G2 was launched so technically they are Generation 1 toys. Later that year Hasbro repackaged the same toys in G2 packaging. So these exact same toys can be either G1 or G2 depending on what packaging they came in -- and sometimes their names would change too. For example, the Autobot Obliterator was called Pyro in his G1 packaging, but when Hasbro repackaged him for G2 he was called "Spark." His Decepticon counterpart was called Clench in his original G1 packaging, but when he was released later for G2 his name was changed to "Colossus." So if you get these toys loose, it's impossible to determine whether they're G1 or G2, because the toys themselves are identical -- the _only_ difference was the packaging!
As a result, many fans simply call them "G1.5"![]()
