I recall that rumour/statement coming out, and thought with the recent announcement that the ooze is the alien element, could it have possibly come out of miscommunication/misinterpretation?

IIRC, the ooze was all part of the utrons (krang aliens) story in the original book.

Yes it was but Bay initially did come out and directly and clearly said that the Turtles were now aliens. Has this changed? Don't know but given how Bay works it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't and that he is just keeping it underwraps to avoid pre-release backlash.

Hey, I'd honestly just believe that Bay knows little about the properties he options and miscommunicated. I believe he's that ignorant.

Can't be any worse than the 3rd movie.

That sounds like a challenge that Bay would be willing to accept

I honestly thought the third movie was a lot better than the second.

For a moment I thought you meant "Turtles in Time" was better than "Secret of the Ooze"!

The decision to not include Casey Jones for almost all of it was the downfall. Him in ancient Japan would have made it infinitely better

As someone who recently bought a 4-pack from a US DVD ebay-online-store for about $10, the first movie was indeed where it should have ended... but like MMPR, there was just too much money made from the first movie, so it forced a rushed sequel to attempt to cash in before the fad died.
    Unfortunately, they were TOO rushed.
The second one should have featured more of the cartoon elements, since that was where the fad was for the movies to feed from. Two mutants that weren't Bebop & Rocksteady? A professor that wasn't Baxter? A missing Casey? There were way too many elements missing for the current TMNT fans (from the cartoon) to have to accept... all the while, trying to understand the awkward plot.
Then the third one came along, and no Shredder, a Casey that doesn't even fulfil his role as a fighter in the movie at all, and an unusual plot device of travelling to ancient Japan when there is still a wealth of contemporary elements (like Dimension X) to play with.
The fourth movie was CGI, but I prefer the Live Action format for "full Movies" when they already have the animation medium for the episodic TV show. But aside from personal taste on the format, we have another movie without the main nemesis - Shredder. It's like having Optimus without Megatron... it just isn't right, and doesn't feel balanced. They have to explain a whole new villain to an audience wanting to see the "TMNT Universe", instead of just getting right into the story and resolution.
And then it felt more like an episode than a movie, with so much left unexplained and unresolved with the Foot Clan.

So aside from the Michael Bay and Megan Fox elements of this fifth movie, there sounds like a lot of the mainstream TMNT elements in it, so if Bay can stay out of the production of this and just bankroll it, we might have a decent movie out of it.
Not sure about having 6 people involved in the script though... that's never a good sign.
