Microsoft's upcoming first party games have apparently all been leaked via a login server database.

In addition to an unannounced Sea of Thieves Beta and Crackdown Beta there's entries for a new Fable, Perfect Dark, Forza Horizon, Age of Empires 4, a mech game, and a high player count version of "Microsoft's biggest franchise" (so probably a Halo battle royal game).

Plus EA is apparently releasing an HD remaster of Burnout Paradise in March. There better be no loot boxes added to Burnout.

The Mega Drive is terrible according to reviews and many games on the console are not real Mega Drive games but rather some BS they threw together to pad the numbers.

https://www.gamespot.com/sega-genesis-flashback-classic-console-review/

The Atari was much better received but unless you have a ton of nostalgia for that era it's probably best just to play the games on archive.org as that era hasn't aged as well as the 8bit and 16bit eras have.
Glad I didn't buy either then. I was checking the last release of the NES (is it) that sold out everywhere. But I never seem to have the time.

I think I'll just play my old dreamcast. :)

Anyone know what the deal is with EB Games charging a $10 premium over MSRP for Monster Hunter World?

https://www.ebgames.com.au/featured/monster-hunter-world

Makes the digital version at $99 look like a bargain, even better if you buy from Amazon for $89 and wait a couple of days for delivery.

EB games always charges more because they can. I’ve always price matched whenever I bought games from them.

Normally they charge the MSRP, not above MSRP. Just seems out of the norm for a game to be above full price at EB. I'm guessing this probably isn't going to be a one off. EB is part of the cold heartless Gamestop Corporation after all.

Maybe there's enough people overpaying for Zing items they figure they can do it for games now.

This is the key to getting the most out of EB.

I have an EB closer to me than a Target, KMart or JB Hifi, but every time I do go to buy from them I get them to price match.

How do I explain to my Mum who is technically illiterate that there is no point in selling all my old PC games around her house because they either don't work on current PC's, are tied to my Steam or Origin account, or are just not worth spending the time to sell because of how little value they hold today?

Been trying to get onto the Dragonball FighterZ beta with no luck throughout the day. Lucky they do these beta tests now because the kind of problems they’re encountering would be a kiss of death upon release. Also doesn’t hurt that the beta puts the highest possible load on their servers as they are likely to get once released.

Hope they get it fixed soon as I’d love a play to see if it’s as good as t looks and I’ve readabout!

MHW is a almost certain buy on the 26th, DBFZ is a maybe at the moment.

Got a few matches in after some training drills and I’ve improved a fair bit. Sadly all three of the ten matches I was going to win (all rematches to people I’d just lost to) ended up with the other player disconnecting when they had about half a health bar left.... funny that.

Never been one to play online against others, so I’ve never experienced t before. It’s just sad, especially since I was not doing ranked matches! :D

It’s a crazy fun game, instant buy on the 26th, there goes my Australia Day and he last few days before work starts back up!

Is it me or has the Switch become more power efficient in portable mode? Since I had been playing Samus Returns and then went on leave for the last couple of months, I haven't taken the switch out as much since the last couple of updates.

I have been playing the BOTW expansion on my commute which is about an hour each way. I start at 100% and by the end of a trip, it is only down to about 77% - Only 23% of consumption.

BOTW is reported to last about 3h of game time when Switch came out with some reporting 2.5h. However based on the above, the switch appears to last me about 4.5 hours and the battery drain is fairly steady (no sudden drops).

Anyone else noticed this?

The internet is getting worked up over a sketchy rumour. Apparently Microsoft is trying to acquire EA. Grant it EA has a ton of great IP and bringing it exclusively to Xbox One and Windows 10 would be good for Microsoft since in order to play the massive hits Madden and FIFA you would need an Xbox One or Windows 10. But I don't see this actually coming true.

I say buy it and play it. SOTC is one of my favourite games. The fact that there are no enemies except for the bosses means that all the enemies are really well designed. The atmosphere of the game is incredible and I really do think it is one of my favourite games ever! Like, really at the top of the list.
I got the special edition version for PS2, the Special boxx set for PS3, and I'll probably get the remake for PS4 as well.

I think it should be played, just to experience a game that is incredibly different to most games. I really do think that it's a game that should be studied.

Here is an odd one...

In the last months I have been building my own portable/handheld consoles (which are more like handheld console platforms resembling tablets), a 14" screen device and a 7". The 14 incher is passed testing stage and moving towards final assembly and finishing touches. The 7" is passed concept stage. The 7" will end up looking a bit like the switch. The 14" can have a switch like configuration but primary mode is to function like a portable monitor where you can attach a small console (such as a NES classic) to its back and play it on the go. Both are powered by a lithium batteries that also power any attached device (like a NES/SNES mini, single board PC, etc).

Here is the thing....

When I was envisioning these devices, the idea was for me to be able to take them around while I travel. The 14" screen as mentioned would allow me to play it in hand like the switch but it can also be placed on the plane seat tray to play/use otherwise non portable small consoles/devices.

As the 14" device was coming together, I started thinking.. Since these are home made, would they be perceived as a security risk if I decide to take it on a flight? Of course, I will aim to have it look as professional as possible (nice paint finish, no loose wires) but they may still look rather odd to the untrained eye.

My question to you - Would a home made portable gaming device that is rather unique looking be too risky to take on a flight or public space? As in it might be confiscated or at worst, cause a security scare.

I bought the 2 for 1 3 month Xbox Live Gold deal from EB last month. You get the first 3 months in store and they email the second 3 months to you.

Despite the manager of my EB Games calling the EB call centre to make sure he did everything correctly for me I never got the second 3 months.

Fortunately I called their call centre about 10 minutes ago and asked what happened to my second code. After looking at my EB account the lady went and got 3 months worth of codes for Xbox Live Gold and emailed them through to me.

Not great that they didn't send the code in the first place, but at least it was hassle free to get the issue sorted.

Anybody on here experienced in Xbox One faults/repairs?
I have a First Edition console that I bought on day one of the launch. It is not a "Day One" but it is the first version. It is shutting itself down after a minute of being on, it makes the shut down noise etc. I don't believe it is overheating as the console itself is fairly cool. The power brick has some dust in it and I have blown that out with "air in a can", the little cooling fan in the power brick is working but I am not sure what to do.
I have access to another brick if needed to trial that but just wondering if anyone has a thought or has gone through the same experience with their console.

Really would like to chuck it in the ocean and upgrade to an X but not sure what the trade in prices are like at EB etc. I could just trade it in as a working console, but I wouldn't sell privately.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You're most likely out of any warranty from Microsoft but it's still worth calling them up and seeing what they can do for you. EB Games does trade in non-working consoles, but I'm sure they will give you a pittance for a non-working Xbox One. The Xbox One has become so cheap now to buy new that even a working Xbox One S doesn't trade for much.

So this afternoon I had my brother in law bring his power brick round and we plugged it in and after about 20minutes it did the same thing so I now know it ain’t the power brick.
I’ve been looking around at deals available and it seems the One S is the way to go as I already have an external 1TB plugged in with my games on it. Has anyone on here got a One X and what are your thoughts. Are they vastly superior?
Time to look for repairers or to just rip it apart myself.

I have the Project Scorpio edition.

I recommend getting the X over the S unless you can't afford an X. It's a much better experience even at 1080p due to higher frame rates, less stutter and supersampling.

Best idea is to get a PC. There is no point of having an Xbox if you have a PC as it will give you a far superior experience with the same games. You will be able to use literally EVERY controller ever made and plugs into any display including a TV. You will find that '1080p' will be considered low graphics mode and 60fps will be the base line not the goal.

Anything, anything at all breaks, you will be able to replace it yourself fairly cheap and it will last you over 5 years before you need upgrading. When that time comes, it will cost you less than the next gen console of the time but far superior. Games are usually a third of the price and generally far superior when it comes to graphics and sound.

Then there is the flexibility - You want to play on your bed or use your phone as a second screen? You can. Stream the gameplay to your phone! You can still use your preferred controller - Similar to the PS4 Remote play but with more flexible settings.

I personally also own a PS4 and a switch for the exclusives and the play anywhere nature of the latter. I don't own an Xbox because it lacks a good exclusive library and even 'Project Scorpio' is just a cut down PC.

The only down side of the PC is that it is not for the 'layman'.

DELTAprime

Just saying "get a PC" isn't right for everyone.

What if you have a back catalogue of Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games you like to play? What if you want to play something like the Halo or Red Dead games that's not available on PC? What if you like the Xbox ecosystem? What about the fact that just the video card (RX 580) for a PC that performs the same as the Xbox One X cost the same as the Xbox One X console?

I have all the consoles and a high end PC, they all have strengths and weaknesses and no one platform is right for everyone.

Caffinetron
2nd March 2018, 09:40 AM
Yeah I just can't fathom selling everything and starting all over again.
I did this years ago when I bought an xbox 360 first gen. I sold everything relating to my PS2 to change to Xbox. As Delta said, I have back catalogue that I like to play etc. I also have a PC but it is not fit for gaming, just use it for general browsing, documents and working from home when I can. I also have a 360 s Kinect that has worked perfectly since I bought it so I am a bit bummed my newer console has frizzed.
I can get a trade on my One at EB and buy a One S 500G for $190 so I will do that, just trying to sell a couple of impulse buys to pay for the Xbox One S so hopefully I can get it soon.
Thanks for your input though, really appreciate it.

I agree with this. It's the incorrect answer alone based on price alone. I have a PS4 and a Switch and both of them combined cost way less than a comparable PC setup for me. Not to mention the portability of the Switch and the exclusive games for both that I enjoy. If you've already got a PC and are upgrading components then that's a completely different story but assuming that a PC is for everyone is a mistake.

This could technically go in the PC hardware thread, but building a PC is ridiculously expensive right now, especially with video cards. Crypto mining appears to be creating a shortage of GPUs and there hasn’t been a drop in prices that we would expect right now. I’m eyeing off a GTX 1070 and they’re stilll in the $800 zone.

I don’t expect Nvidia’s next lineup in the coming months to help with dropping prices.

I know the feeling. I'm in the Insider Program on Xbox and I'm in the Alpha Ring, which means I get the highest number of firmware updates possible for someone external to Microsoft.

There's nothing quite like having to wait hours for a mandatory firmware update to download and install when you just want to play a game.

I ended up buying a Xbox One S and am now in the process of reinstalling everything. I put Forza 6 disc in and starts install, get about 20Gig in and it says to check the disc. The disc is clean and not scratched.
Here's my theory................. I am waiting on the advertisement for Forza 7 to come up on my feed.
I can just imagine Microsoft saying....... Oh your old game doesn't work...... Here's the new game that you may like....... Forget that many hours of racing you have completed and your thought of wanting to 100% the game.
And Forza 6 is more expensive than Forza 7...........

This is a pretty common issue. The trained monkeys at Microsoft tech support will try to blame it on the disk. Best option since you just bought it is take it back to the retailer and exchange it for another unit if these options don't work:https://windowsreport.com/check-your-disc-xbox-one-error/ .

I've played some Burnout Paradise Remastered today thanks to my EA Access sub. It's a very faithful remaster with basically nothing changed that I can tell which is totally a good thing in the case of Burnout Paradise.

EDIT: And as of the end of my 10 hour trial I collected all 50 jumps, 120 billboards and 400 gates in the base game and was about half way through my A Class License. What a pain that I can't keep playing until next Thursday at 11pm when the game releases.

Burnout Paradise is probably my favourite racing game ever. I have it on PC. Aside from the DLC (which never made its way onto PC) would it be worth getting? You can already max out the resolution on the PC and similar.

Since I've only ever owned the game on Xbox 360 it's a huge upgrade for me going from 720p60 to 4k60.

The biggest changes are resolution, colour vibrancy and cleaner textures, other than that it's the same game. It's extremely faithful to the original.

I think it's going to be a $40 game on PC when it comes out in a few months and EA gives refunds on Origin if you're not happy with the game. I'd say if you're getting the remaster on PC then buy it, see if it's a big enough upgrade for you and if it's not return it.

Also I really suggest only hitting up the DLC after you have unlocked all the normal cars and are deep into the game. It breaks the progression to go right to some of the fastest cars.

I loved Burnout Paradise, it may not be the best Burnout but it was my favourite map overall, especially with the dlc.

However $50 is too much for a new coat of paint. I’ll be waiting till it drops to $30 ish even though I am yet to find a driving game on the PS4 I enjoy.

I used "Evac All", "No Avatar Project" and "Shepard Voicepack" back when I was playing XCOM 2.

Evac all lets you extract every soldier in the evac zone with a single click.

No Avatar Project lets you either never have the Avatar Project start (I don't recommend doing that) or if you enable it after the Avatar Project is started the timer will not increase allowing you to have fun killing aliens without constantly worrying about the Avatar Projects timer.

And the Shepard Voicepack is a pretty good voice pack of the male and female Commander Shepards from the Mass Effect trilogy. I have Femshep in my squad shooting aliens with her shotgun.

I’v clocked about 85 hours on Battlefront 2.

It’s a great shooter set in the Star Wars universe. The graphics and sound are top notch.

The change in progression system is much welcomed. Levelling your characters through RNG was such a poor decision.

The game still suffers from team balancing issues. There is no auto scramble after map changes and more often than not I see one team dominating over and over...not fun.

Crash and Spyro are both owned by Activision and have been remastered by Activision for all platforms not just PlayStation. Medievil is owned by Sony so it would be a completely different proposition to get remastered. Different people would need to approver it and it would be remastered by different people.

It's funny how back in the day Crash and Spyro became Sony mascots even though Vivendi Universal owned them not Sony. Activision now owns them because Vivendi Universal did some type of merger or acquisition or whatever it was to create Activision Blizzard out of Activision and Vivendi Universal's games division which included Blizzard. They ended up selling off their share of Activision Blizzard.

Also with Medievil being owned by a Japanese company there is a chance the original source files are gone forever. Japanese companies were not good at data preservation in this time period and would delete things that today you would keep archived.

Perfect 10 games always make me super skeptical.

Horizon zero dawn got a lot of perfect 10 scores and yes, it was good, but it was NOT a perfect 10.

On a plus for Delta though, this Kratos is now a father with less of a blood thirst rage for ripping people's heads off, so he might be a bit more likeable.

Personally, I didn't really like GOW's combat and thought Kratos was a prick. Although I am interested in the story. I'd be somewhat inclined to watch a playthrough on youtube over playing it myself.

Except whent he story makes you play as another character, Ciri. I don't know why they do that, there isn't really any plot that doesn't get told to you by another character and it's just a cut down version of the main character's combat, but with fewer options and moves.

I've only played as her 3 times and I've already had enough. I suspect that I'll have to do it more often as well. I understand she is important to the story, but yeeesh. I dont like those sections at all.

I've only played as her 3 times and I've already had enough. I suspect that I'll have to do it more often as well. I understand she is important to the story, but yeeesh. I dont like those sections at all.

Three or four times from memory? Not for very long either, so not that much in the scheme of things

Great game to have fun with, and if you’ve got the Blood and Wine expansion, one of the most beautiful I’ve ever played

I kinda know a bit about streamlabs and OBS. What do you want to know?

Ive d/l slobs and open it and thats it. I cant get anything to work. No preview in the preview screen, nothing.

DELTAprime

Ok, I just use the actual OBS client and integrate stream labs. But I'll take a look at the Stream Labs version before I stream again.

Assuming they haven't changed it too much from the standard OBS my instructions should still work for SLOBS.

First setup your preferences/settings. Put in your Twitch/YouTube/Mixer streaming key in Stream settings and choose your nearest server.

Second setup you Output settings.
-VBR is your maximum upstream bitrate, I believe Twitch still has a max VBR of 3500, not sure about the others.
-Set your encoder, software x264 gives best quality but requires a better CPU. Intel Quicksync and Nvidia NVENC give middling results. AMD GPUs encoding sucks terribad, don't use it if you want viewers.
-Select your Encode Preset, For Software x264 don't go beyond the "fast" preset, everything slower than "fast" gives tiny improvements for large resource cost.

Third set up your Video settings. Your Base Canvas should be the resolution of your desktop and games. Output resolution should either be set to 720p or 1080p depending on what you want to output. 720p uses less resources than 1080p. And select your frame rate, 30fps takes less resources than 60fps.

Then you just need to create a scene and select your sources. You need to select each game as an individual source. So start the game, then go to OBS, then make a game capture source and select the game from the list of currently running programmes. Using sources you can also add cameras, overlays, etc.

I suggest you try a test stream for say one or two minutes, then goto Twitch and watch the VOD of the video to see what it's like an tweak settings from there. Streaming on PC requires trial and error manual tuning to get things right.

I've got (in no particular order) Sonic Mania Plus, Red Dead Redemption 2, Spyro, Forza Horizon 4, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Spider-Man, Mario Tennis Aces, F1 2018 and WoW Battle For Azeroth all on my wish list and we haven't even gotten to E3 yet.

Dark Souls Remastered
Ace Combat 7

God Wars Complete on Switch

Not to mention my backlog...plus they just announced Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 remastered for PS4!

Definite buys
Ace Combat 7
Jurassic World Evolution
Phoenix Point (XCOM2 but more or less space hulk?)

Maybe if bored
Earthfall (L4D but with aliens!)
CoD Black Ops 4 (they seem to have pushed the mindless gadget spam this year to the extent that it's basically a hero shooter now not a tactical shooter)

Monitoring closely
Battlefield V (not super into WW2 as a setting)
Crackdown 3 (does this even exist anymore?)

I’m not particulalry fussed on the OTT Michael Bay stye of the Battlefield 5 trailer, but holy crap the amount of rage and anger (and I’m really resisting the urge to categorise those who are raging) about the female soldier.

This is totally going to dominate the gaming scene conversation. Get ready for a scheissen show.

SharkyMcShark

I wasn't really drawn in by the trailer but that had literally nothing to do with the soldier customisation options.

Every new Battlefield game appeals to me less.

They're all geared to provide constant visceral in your face combat. Up to and including Battlefield 2 it was frequently possible for your squad to be the most important squad to your team and have a combined total of 10 kills. Quietly breaking through the enemy lines and capturing a bunch of their rear flags was its own reward. No longer, unfortunately.

I understand that there were no female soldiers on the frontline, but these games are far from a realistic representation of the actual war, no one wants to play a game where you walk up and down a trench for months at a time. All the online mouth breathers just need to get over it.

If you actually get to play the game as a female spy set behind enemy lines trying to get information or refugees out, that’d be awesome.

New Pokémon games for switch have been officially announced with a trailer and titles: Let’s go Pikachu and Let’s go Eevee.

Set in Kanto, 151 original mons (and surely a majority of the rest post game) with what looks like a modernised (sun/moon) style reimagining of red/blue/yellow.

So turns out a lot of the rumours were somewhat accurate. Whether one game is more traditional set and the other post a giant flood remains to be seen but some of the other changes made could be interesting: throwing balls to catch, drop in and out play (easy mode), monsters viewable on the world map (no more random grass or cave run ins, now you have to run into the mon you want to catch) and Pokémon follow or sit atop of your character in the main world.

Also seems to be a bonus mode like in soul silver and heart gold where Pokémon you catch in Pokémon go can be transferred to a special park.

Hopefully as we get closer to the November release we will get more details.

-edit-
Something I didn't pick up on my first viewing is that there is no wild pokemon battling... while I love the new mechanic of seeing what pokemon are in each area and selecting who to battle or avoid, not being able to whittle down their health and using the very boring "throw a ball" mechanic from Go is disappointing.

I understand this game is not for the 20 year old veterans but for the casual gamer but no wild battles will change the way you level up, train and test out moves. It will be more beginner friendly and may streamline the story mode a bit but it will feel very strange whilst playing it.

The second player drop in will be fantastic if my wife starts up her own save, she enjoys go because she doesn't have to grind to level up and because she can never remember the type advantages. to be able to drop in, help her out in some battles then go back to doing what I was doing will be awesome.

Although I don't get heavily into the stories, I have liked all the Assassin's Creed games, even ones I was hesitant with like Black Flag. I'm still in France playing Unity and haven't started London/Syndicate yet. (I also skipped Rogue but the remaster has had me reconsider picking that up.)

But anywa, I am considering jumping the queue straight to Origins because it simply looks brilliant. What are the chances though that the game might get a special edition release, like a GOTY release, with the add on missions etc included? Should I hold my breath and cash for a bit longer to see?

In entirely unrelated news, I've started another Knights of the Old Republic 2 playthrough. What a masterpiece of a game. It actually saddens me that the industry has shifted to the extent that we're probably not ever going to see a Star Wars RPG of the the KOTOR1/2 calibre ever again.

Sure the NES Battletoads might not be good, but that doesn't automatically mean a new Battletoads game is going to be bad. Just look at Killer Instinct, those old arcade games are bad (though I have fond memories of the SNES version) yet the new(ish) Killer Instinct game is actually really good.

Well everything from press events except Nintendo's stuff has been revealed. No big surprises as the surprises were leaked or rumoured.

My impressions.

EA: Anthem looks good and if they price it right the new Origin Access Premium that might be worth subscribing.

Microsoft: I'm impressed with Forza Horizon 4. Gears Tactics might be good. Gears 5 looks more interesting than Gears of War 4 ever did. I hope Crackdown doesn't get delayed further. Great to see Microsoft investing in more first party developers. No announcement of older Xbox exclusives coming to PC, since we have seen them rated for PC by ratings boards that must be coming at Gamescom or something:(. No new Elite Controller which was leaked in February:(.

Bethesda: Doom, Wolfenstein, hell yeah.

Square Enix: Lara Croft's really a mass murder these days isn't she...

Ubi: I didn't think anything could make me want to preorder an Assissin's Creed game again, but Kassandra's banter and the Greek setting really makes me want to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Also should be noted people that have played AC Odyssey say the voice acting for the male player character sucks and doesn't compare to the female character. BGE2 look very intriguing but still a long way off. I've signed up the Crew 2, Skull and Bones and Division 2 betas to get a look at these games, they all look interesting.

Sony: That was a weird way to start a press event with the "church" of PlayStation bit and the banjo dude followed by the intermission and the flute dude. Last of Us 2 looks amazing but way too dark for me. Also I bet the internet fanbois are losing their mind over the lesbian kissing in the trailer. Ghost of Tsushima does nothing for me, I wanted a new inFamous game from Sucker Punch or at least something as fantastical. I still don't know what the hell Death Stranding is, but it looks like a post apocalyptic package delivery service going by the trailer??? I'll be keen to find out if the Resident Evil 2 remake is worth getting, especially since it's a full priced game at $60USD. And really looking forward to Spider-Man.

I have a 100% save file for Just Cause 3 with every upgrade including the DLC. With every upgrade it's a complex control scheme, but still very manageable. I expect Just Cause 4 to be the same since it's from the same team. I'm looking forward to it, but it's not one of the games I'm 100% going to get at launch or preorder. I love the series but found that towards the end of the character progression in JC3 that it could get a bit much juggling the various functions of the grapple (tether, retraction, not to mention using it for your own propulsion) and the various functions of the remote explosives, in addition to the chute, wingsuit, and plain old guns. I ended up basically heavy weapon spamming my way out of fights toward the end of that game. Maybe I'm just getting old, who knows?

I am also skeptical on Fallout 76. Sounds too MMO too me. I can't be immersed in a game that is guaranteed to have a lot of idiots jumping around and dancing ready to ruin my experience. Even if I play solo, it seems that the world is built for MMO multiplayer so it will be cut down to simple quests.

It's possibly the peak of the sub-genre. Don't be put off by the inevitable poor ranking the game will give you, figuring out the nuances takes time but it accessible to most skill levels. Also a plus is that the PC version is easily the best.

$70 is the MSRP for all three versions of Crash Nsane Trilogy from Australian stores. If you found it for less than that was because it's being sold for less than MSRP. The $70 price Activision has chosen to charge in the Switch eShop is just MSRP, it's fair. If you want it for less wait for a sale on the eShop version or buy it at retail where Big W will undoubtedly have it for less.

If you want it for less wait for a sale on the eShop version or buy it at retail where Big W will undoubtedly have it for less.

$50 at jb hifi and I am sure that target and big w will follow suit.

Doesn’t matter that activision or Nintendo set the price, it’s still a ridiculous price that means I’m going to buy a physical copy that requires far more work to make, ship and stock than a purely digital purchase. The greed and shortsightedness of companies thinking it’s okay to overcharge for a game that is already a year old just boggles the mind.

You seem to have no idea how the business end of this works.

The reason you pay the MSRP on digital stores is because if they sold games for less than brick and mortar retailers the retailers would not only refuse to stock the games but also refuse to stock the consoles. It's basically an uneasy alliance at the moment between retail and the console manufactures and retail has all the power.

I don't know the breakdown for Australian retail, but in the US the breakdown of a $60 game is 30% goes to the retailer, 10% goes to the console manufacture as a licence fee, an unknown amount goes to the manufacture and shipping of the disk and case (controlled by the console manufacture) and the rest goes to the publisher and developer.

When a retailer discounts a game at launch they are cutting into their 30% of the profit. So take Amazon US for example where they used to sell preorders for games to Prime members for 30% off. They were actually selling the game for zero profit to their Prime members basically to help advertise.

If a retailer decides to sell a game for anything below MSRP at launch it is the retailer taking a cut that is lower than the 30% they are entitled to.

You seem to have no idea how the business end of this works.

I understand fully the business end and the numbers, percentages and reasons.

Doesn’t mean it’s right, smart or logical.

It’s another part of the gaming and retail sections not knowing what they want or, if they do know, knowing how to make a system that works. One day if Australian internet and download speeds become first world we might have no choice but to download games, I’m glad we still have brick and mortar stores to buy games from in most instances.

What bothers me is that activision/Nintendo/Microsoft think $70 for a year old remake game is a fair price.

So because they are releasing the Switch and Xbox versions now instead of last year you think they should cost less than the PS4 which still cost $70. Yeah whatever.

Look at the price, it's $70. https://store.playstation.com/en-au/product/EP0002-CUSA07399_00-CRASHNSANETRLOGY

A temporary sale doesn't change the MSRP. The Xbox and Switch versions are coming in at the MSRP, they are not ripping anyone off unless you truly believe that paying exactly what an item is supposed to cost is a rip off.

Not all games drop in price. Fancy a copy of GTA V? It's MSRP is still $100 almost 5 years after it's release. What about a copy of Modern Warfare 3? It's still $50 for an Xbox 360 game. For every company like Ubisoft that drops the price of their games there's other companies like Activision that don't because simply there is no need cause it still sells fine at full or near full price.

Anyway you will soon be renting games, not buying them. EA Access, PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass are the tip of the iceberg. In a few years every company will have you subscribe to a service to play a game, ownership will be gone. You can thank Netflix and Spotify for that one.

I took the money I had earmarked for Jurassic World Evolution and applied it instead to a bunch of indie games on Steam, as there is a sale happening

Deep Rock Galactic - Monopolised my weekend. Essentially a cross between Left 4 Dead and caving in Minecraft, but with an aesthetic similarity to Borderlands. Up to four players explore procedurally generated caves searching for minerals. An interesting mix of problem solving and combat.

Terraria - Haven't played this yet, despite my girlfriend's brother's constant badgering.

Invisible Inc - Touted by RPS as the best turn based strategy game ever, the whole thrust of this game is essentially pulling off heists using modern XCOM style turn based mechanics, with a slightly cyberpunk overlay.

Subnautica - An indie darling. A beautiful exploration/crafting game. I didn't give this as much time over the weekend as I should.

Oxygen Not Included - I started the game, saw lots of buttons, decided I didn't have the time to learn it all, and closed it.

Finished Assassins Creed Syndicate...I'm a bit behind in the series after I took a hiatus after AC3. I quite enjoyed the game, they captured the essence of Victorian London quite well and I found it an easier game to follow than AC Unity. It'll be a couple of months before I move onto AC Origins...I find myself needing a break between Ubisoft open world games and I need to move onto something a bit more linear, like Wolfenstein.

I play in spurts. I won’t touch it for 3 months then I’ll play it most nights for 2 months. Repeat. It’s changed so much from when I first got it. They keep nerfing characters and it really affected me when they changed D.Va as she suited my play style perfectly. Now I mainly play Junkrat and Orissa with the occasional Sombra.

I have never really got into competitive seasons. I only use Quick play and Arcade. And you’re right, the style is quite different to CoD and the like. You have to approach different levels/game types differently depending on what your objective is and who you have on your team/up against. Playing with a headset helps heaps.

What are you playing it on? Tactics in PC version are vastly different to console.

Grabbed the complete edition thing of Shantae half genie hero. Really enjoyed MOST of it, but feel like they got lazy with level design at the end. The final level involves practically no platforming, just flying with one of her forms, and its full of instant death spikes and lava pits. The after a fairly bland final boss fight, it repeats the same type of section from the first level, which I found tedious then and still did this time too.

Its like they had the first 2 levels being really well designed and fun, the third starts falling into the its "OK" section and 4th, back into good and then "We can't be bothered" for the final section. A shame really as parts of it were really damn good with some nice platforming elements.

Grinders are people that are just interested in building their bank up without bothering other players. Tryhards are griefers that only care about the KD ratio.

Diablo 2? Greatest game of all time, but aren't you a little late to the party?:p

I know you mean Destiny 2, but as a Diablo player since D1 I gotta poke a little fun.

Anyway I'm still playing GTA Online, but now that almost everything from the drip feed of content from the current DLC is out I'm wanting the next DLC content.

Played a little Evil Within 2 that I got for free cause someone I know got 2 Steam codes in the one box.

Played a little more PC Building Simulator which while totally still early access is feeling much more complete now.

More Forza Motorsport 7. I have a feeling FM7 might be the last FM game and they just goto the World of Warcraft expansion model from here. They are just working on updating FM7 each month, adding cars and car packs. T10 claims they have nobody working on the next FM game and everyone is still on FM7. Personally I'm a little sick of the bi-annual Madden model they have been doing of just getting you to re-buy everything from the previous game every two years with some new content and gameplay improvements.

I might preorder FH4 next week. I'm trying not to preorder gamers anymore but given how much I love the Forza franchise I doubt I'll dislike the game. Hell I even loved FM7 in it's incredibly busted state at launch.

Oh and played a bunch of Civ 6 after buying all DLC and the expansion for it. In my current playthrough my Australia has completely taken over Poland.

It's not really that educational. You would be better off watching a Linus Tech Tips build log on YouTube if you want in depth how to build information. But PC Building Simulator will at least give you the basics and let you preview cases to get a little bit of an idea of what you're getting into with building into a specific case.

I don’t want to derail the thread and happy to move onto the PC build thread but building your own PC actually isn’t difficult. For the most part each component is designed to fit a very specific way and unless you’re the type to jam a square peg into a round hole, it all fits like a jigsaw puzzle.

Currently playing through Wolfenstein New Colossus which is just a crazy Nazi killing gore fest. Love it! Once I finish I’m looking at the next Spider-Man PS4 game for some couch-relaxing gaming.

I regret not buying Spider-Man on Friday but I know I wouldn’t have gotten through the mountain of school programming and marking I needed to organise and complete!

I really want to play tomb raider too, I loved the first one so much that I bought it and played it through again on the PS4, but the second one was a bit of a slog once I got to the ancient Russian camp, it really became disinteresting and bland but I think that’s because I never have enjoyed large open areas of plain winter whites. The story was also too vague and the undead army made little sense other than a macguffin did it. Searching through Croft Manor was more intriguing to me than the entire second half of the game.

So I might wait till tomb raider drops to $40 after Christmas to purchase it, I have learnt my lesson after shadow of war now to wait for Those games that I hope will be good to drop in price so I do t feel as bad if they aren’t as good as their predecessors. :p
