My ps3 doesn't like reading blu rays all that well. It takes ages for it to recognise a disc in the drive, yet DVDs/CDs are picked up straight away. Whats going on? SAD FACE:(

Does it make a difference if the PS3 is standing upright (or flat, depending on how it is now)?

Just finished Saints row 3 after being only a few missions from completion for several months.

Great game, and nice and cheap now if you buy online. Certainly worth a purchase for those fans of open sandbox games that dont mind lots of swearing and ridiculously fun gunfights.

Dunno, I have a slim and it doesn't sit easily on the side, but might give it a try. I have always kept it flat.

Somethings I should mention:
- The zombie voice; while hilarious and clever, does not get subtitled, so you lose half a conversation. Still hilarious.
- In game streaking is fun.
- You WILL waste alot of time messing with how your character looks, sounds and behaves. I normally don't look at those kind of things twice, but the options you can tweak in this game rock.

I preferred Saints Row 2 a lot more than 3. More character customisation and a bigger city with more vehicles and variety.

It had less 'whacky' stuff than SR3 (no laser guns or hover bikes or similar) but there was more to it.

Sounds intruiging. SR3 was the first game in the series I played. Can't believe there was more customisation in the second game... might order that from ozgameshop...

Included:
- Amnesia: The Dark Descent
- LIMBO
- Psychonauts
- Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
- Bastion*
- and the soundtracks to each game as .flac files

Btw, you can pay any amount but Bastion is only included if you pay more than the average (which is like $8US).

For me:

1. Fall of Cybertron
2. X-COM
3. Guild Wars 2

1. Fall of cybertron (end of August)
2. Sonic & SEGA Allstars Racing Transformed. (novemeber)
3. Amazing Spiderman movie game (June I think)
4. Aliens: Colonial Marines (November I think)

I was having a hankering for some web swinging goodness, preferably on my PS3. I had Ulltimate Spidey on the PS2, which I found very enjoyable, so my search for a game like that, but with nicer Ps3 Graphics ensued.

then I found that there will of course be a Spidey game for the new movie. And so far it looks all right. Might wait for some reviews or grab it cheap first though.

Sadly though, only Spidey is close. What is it with holding everything until November nowadays?

I'll have to check to see if there's a demo for Lollipop. Keen to try it out but also a bit worried that's it's Suda51 at his most random.

Just started part III of Max Payne 3 and this game continues to impress. The only criticism I have is with the cover system which is somewhat flawed imo. You can't army roll near a low wall and instantly put your back against it. You have to roll, stand up then you can duck behind a wall - which often results in taking a few bullets which is painfully annoying in the higher difficulties. I don't remember these kind of issues in Gears of War or Uncharted so it's frustrating to see it in a game like this which otherwise does everything extremely well. Hope this gets patched!

Indeed, they're not bad machines and for all intents and purposes it does and achieves pretty much all that I ask of it, as I don't really play many modern/contemporary games what with Diablo 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Transformers: WFC & Portal 2 being the latest games I've bought and run on it.

Nah, haven't overclocked it dude as I'm not much one for overclocking; I've seen too many people go wrong with it and the way I figure, if the components were originally designed to operate at such rates then they would've done so out of the box - Like a car's engine, I prefer naturally aspirated builds. ;):)

Doooood, it might surprise you to know that my first thought when I got the free PC was "Yes! I have a PC I can load Vista on again!!". :p Truth be told, Vista SP2 is my favourite Windows OS of all time. I wish I had it on my work PC!

The only reason I have Windows 7 on my main home desktop is for gaming, otherwise I'd have Vista SP2 on there in a heartbeat. Poor ol' Vista had a bad start and received a lot of bad PR but SP2...Man that thing is the best! It is by far the best looking version of Windows out there imo. Just like office 2007 makes 2010 look like a joke, so to does W7 look like a piece of crap compared to Vista SP2. In terms of usability, it's the perfect blend of XP and Widows 7. Some things drive me nuts with W7 for eg. not being able to right click Start > Explore All users and that crappy taskbar (which I've modded on all my W7 PC's to be like Vistas). It's a shame that Vista SP2 doesn't get more love, it truly is a class act.

Yeah fair enough mate, I was pretty nervous overclocking my E6750 (another PC, lol) but the gains of going from 2.67Ghz to 3.4 was well worth it! The fact that the mobo died after 2 years is neither here nor there... >_>

It's an interesting game with an interesting concept, though I find it extremely frustrating that you start off with no attack, I don't care if you don't get a gun but no melee? Or even a eating knife? I spent a good amount of time sneaking in the bushes only to be sniped and could not do anything about it.

I'm afraid to go on the official DayZ forum and post anything as the majority of the users are harsh Rocket-fanboys that just discard any legit complaint and say 'oh you should just learn how to adapt to the game better and oh just because you have a problem with this game that means you must automatically be a cod fanboy blah blah blah'.:rolleyes:

Still haven't found a gun yet but did have some fun, I got stuck inside the top of a crane because there were like 5 zombies waiting for me at the bottom. Couldn't really do anything and there was this other friendly who was prone right next to them, unnoticed and couldn't move (otherwise he'd be spotted). I sacrificed myself by falling off the crane, breaking my bones and let the zombies eat me. Then the friendly thought it was a good idea to move BEFORE I fell so we both died :D:D

Any advice on how best to get into it chaps? Is it best to just purchase the ARMA II: Combined Operations pack from Steam for $30 and go from there? Can you get very far as a lone wolf or is it a case of 'Don't even bother if you're not in a team of 3-4'?

Hey guys, thinking about getting the above. Is that an okay choice? Really only want XBOX so i can play Halo and Mass Effect games plus play DVDs//Blu Ray

Not sure what to make of the 320GB hard drive. Does this mean I have to put it in myself or am I better off buying one of the 250GB which seem to be internal?

Depends if u want the kinect sensor not, as Halo and Mass Effect don't use it. You could buy the basic 4G console for around $120 on special, and a 250G hard drive for less than $100 and save some money for games you want instead of wasting money on the casual family games included in the above bundle.

Also the XBox don't play Blu Ray, only DVD. As for the hard drive, it's just a matter of sliding it in a slot as you would a memory card and that's it!

Other than that it's a great price to include the sensor, hard drive, downloadable game (LEGO Star Wars 3 great game) and console.

The co-op feature is great, and flying around free roam through Gotham and Metrolpolis as Superman, while a pain to fly at times, is alot of fun. Alot of fun, and recommended you buy it.

Also looking forward to getting LOTR lego game when it is out :D

Not this one ;) Nah Gecko is a bit o homebrew what makes my Wii play other region games. Sadly, it would seem that my new Kirby (full of old games mind you) seems to have it pegged. I can get it running with a bit of option messing about, but it's unstable, I guess that's understandable though, as I noticed the program hasn't been updated since 2010!!

On the plus side, the 20th Kirby pack is pretty cool. Not as many retro games as the Mario pack, but there is a kick arse museum mode and you can view 3d models of the Japanese game boxes and some Kirby manga. As well as READ the manga! SAWEEEEET! As well as videos of ALL kirby games and stuff as well. It's a pretty great little pack and well worth the $40 considering the history and stuff in there.

Oh, I just though Mario had more. Meh, I suck at mario anyway. Aaa, neogamma. Doesn't work on 4.3 firmware = pain in the ass I think and I have a feeling it wouldn't solve the problem anyway. I will keep fiddling with the options for now. I mainly got it for the collection and the soundtrack CD more than the games :p

Battery life is improved. Larger size = more room for battery. Screen is nearly double, but no resolution upgrade. I use my 3DS near daily now but never "on the go" so larger size doesnt bother me.

I'll get the 3DSXL at some point, the $130 deal is good, far better than I expected, so thanks for that heads up Kazza. $250 seems to be the standard price for non-trade ins.

The guys at Silverball Studios have launched a Kickstarter campaign (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1790321238/pro-pinball-revived-and-remastered) for a new table and remastered old tables in their Pro Pinball series.

For those who don't know, Pro Pinball was a series of computer games from quite a few years back now - but still unmatched by the Zen/FX & Pinball Arcade series of recent years.

They're currently offering a free download of one of their original tables, so give it a go and you'll see how much better they are! I really hope these guys hit their target - i'm hoping they can get a Vita version out so I can play on glorious vertical OLED!

Been getting back into red dead redemption lately. Problem is its been a good six or seven months at least since I last looked at it and I've forgotten all the controls. Darnit.

Anyway, got the hang of it again and I am in the story in Mexico and the cops are rampaging around any settlement. They shoot anybody, so I have been trying to defend myself ;) and lose honour because I shot some guy I shouldn't have. Problem is I can't tell who's shooting at me.

So I reloaded the game and made a dash for my horse to just get out of the town and some NPC shot my horse!! I've had that same horse for ages now and was very annoyed. So on goes the mask and an entire town massacre ensues. then a reload.\

God I love RDR

I started playing Resident Evil 5 (which I've had on the to-play pile for ages). It's really not much fun and I'm not sure I can be bothered playing any more (and I've only up to chapter 2). I think part of the problem is a lack of a good in-game tutorial and clunky controls. I was reading an FAQ guide and realised that you need to do less shooting and more "melee" attacks.

I thought RE5 was designed like a third person shooter. Not that I like RE anyway but that's what it looks like. There is no excuse for clunky controls imo. I find that no matter how nice a game looks or how good the story is, if the controls are crap, I simply won't bother playing it.

I was kind of going through my 'to play' list a while ago and ditched a bunch because I didn't enjoy them. Even though a few of them were well known and recommended. If they aren't fun to play, they're not worth the time.

Looks like the laser on my PS3 is going. Piece of crap. Only had the thing 3 years and haven't really spent that much time on it. Meanwhile, my Sega Saturn that has had many many hours runs just as fine as the day I bought it. In 1997. Hows that SOny???

Also a shame I had to go to the effort of using my US account as the Australian price is $30.00

I feel this is a bit too high imo, especially when Americans can get it for $20.00. I wouldn't mind paying $30.00 if I could get a disc version (heck I saw it new for $25 when it was first released...), but 30 for online only is too sharp imo.

Nope.

Barely play any of the games on my wii as it is. Most of the ones I won are from Nintendo anyway and the selection is so small for the wii, I have been put off of Ninty consoles.

Might get a wiiu later down the track, but I don't like the look of that controller and since they messed up the last Zelda game quite nicely, I don't see much to entice me into making the jump.

I've conned myself into getting a Wii U.

Smash bros was such an entertaining part of my childhood I don't want to miss the next instalment.

That and the promise of a new F Zero game.

I haven't touched my Wii (:D) in absolutely ages, probably since i gave up on Skyward Sword's intro section... but it was undeniably worth it for some of the golden games that it had. Just the Mario Galaxy titles alone really made it worth it, but there was a heap more quality - NSMB introducing 4 player, Metroid Prime 3 with excellent pointer controls, Wii Sports & Resort even if just for the novelty of playing with my family for once! And long live Excitetruck!

That said, i have too many purchases on at the moment, and plenty of other great games to play, to be considering a Wii U knowing that it likely wont have a significant library of games i'm interested in for a while. So, i'll be holding off for at least the first price cut. That's one thing 3DS has taught me! Screw early adopting, ambassador games be damned!!

Best racer on the wii, bar the sublime sequel that was never released here and I had to get from the UK.

Screw early adopting, ambassador games be damned!!

I'm in the same boat as many here, I love my Wii and will never regret it being a day 1 purchase, but I have not used it much of late (since I got the PS3). However after the 3DS deal and with the wii getting no support in the last year-18 months I will be waiting for quite some time before getting the Wii U. I am sure I will get one at some point, just not for a while.

Only trouble with late adoption can be getting some of those killer early games, like Excitetruck and Warioware smooth mooves.

When the new smash brothers and kirby games are announced (or SM galaxy 3) then I'll reconsider.

I only just got my Wii, but I only got that once it got to clearance price and with some good special on games, I feel like I solely just paid full price for the (Nintendo) games themselves. Once I finish all the games I plan on selling the Wii on since there's not a lot of attachment there, just some games I really wanted to play that would never be on PS3 (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong).

Thought I might derail the VG Aqui thread, so these are my thoughts on Sonic & Allstars racing Transformed.

Pretty sweet little game with some nice homages to SEGA history in there as well as a lot of WTF moments as you start flying and wonder where the hell the track is supposed to be.

So far I am pretty impressed as it is pretty fun and the tracks/levels are pretty well designed. handling is definitely different between characters.

In an 'Interesting' move they have included "Wreck-It-Ralph" from the upcoming movie as a character as well. I am not completely against this move since it seems Sonic makes a cameo in the movie, I just wished they had put more personality to him. Playing as him a couple of times, he has some generic quotes "My bad" and such like that don't really tell much about the guy and as such I don't really want to play as him.

Unlocking new characters seems to take some time, I was hoping they'd keep it the same as the first but there is a new "challenge" mode where you earn stars and the stars unlock characters. But you have to go through a certain route to get the characters. I liked the other one where you earnt 'money' to buy them in the shop, then you could save up all your dosh and get the characters the you really liked firts (for me, Alex Kidd and OpaOpa).

However they have done well this time, not revealing all the playable characters. So good work to them for keeping some surprises! I don know that Joe Musashi from Shinobi and Vyse from Skies of Arcadia are in there. I want them!

So, despite the removal of "SEGA" from the Allstars, it's still looking fairly good. As soon as I get my PS# back online and can get the Outrun track up and running, I'll do that.

Personally I would have liked to see a real 8 bit retro track smacked inthere, like MAster System Green Hill Zone or something! Would have made for a nice change.

Wheeee! Spent an hour today on Sonic Racing Transformed doing time trials. Man it's been ages since I have had a game that makes me want to shave those .01 seconds off my previous lap time. (I am talking like since SEGA Rally/Daytona CCE length of time.)

Slowly unlcoking some characters. I am surprised at how hard some of the challenges are this time. There is a noticeable difference between medium and hard levels.

I am really enjoying this game! The Afterburner level has some wicked-sticks music that I can't get enough of!

Soooo, borrowed Kurdts Shinobi for the 3ds.

Yeeees. Um, well. It seems decent enough, but just hasn't grabbed me as I thought it would. Why? Well it turns out Shinobi has gone from being a side scrolling shooter (with a ninja) to a side scrolling beat em up of sorts. For some reason this doesn't sit well with me... Gonna plug through it for a bit more, in the hope some coolness arrives.

There has been some crazy stuff on Dead Space 2 multiplayer recently.

Yesterday I was part of a playgroup playing against another team which had a member that was racking up kills. I don't know if it was because he's really good or a cheater, but one of our team decided he was a cheater and started calling him that.

The game ended, and when the next game started the 'cheater' was part of our playgroup. And he spent the next two games attacking all of us who were on his team. It must have been strange for the other team to watch their opponents whaling into each other.

Then this morning I was part of a team playing the Titan Mines map and we had four minutes to go before time ran out to complete the last objective. Now some players use this time to rack up the kills, which is what the guy carrying the objective obviously wanted to do. However, a lower level player on our side obviously didn't get this, because he started attacking the guy with the objective! Of course he started attacking back and for the next three minutes they just kept on killing each other... until the guy who originally had the objective, who was also the host, quit when he died with 30 seconds to go, meaning everyone lost all the points they had accrued during that game. Pity, because I was on a 10+ streak....

Anyway, crazy times.

So no one else got a Wii U? Despite my post a few pages back, i decided to get one on a whim.. it kinda did have a price drop so that makes it ok :)

My impressions are mostly positive - I only got Mario and it's a great game - more challenging than NSMB2 and it looks sweet in HD. I was surprised how much joy i got out of seeing just a plain mario block rendered crisply :D

We tried out 'boost mode' which is where a second player uses the touch screen to place blocks throughout the level to aid or hinder the first player - my wife is absolutely terrible at it but we had a good time regardless!

The gamepad controller, well the screen is pretty low res and the feed is somewhat compressed - i've noticed a few artifacts here and there which is a shame, cause it makes things look less crisp than even a 3DS. Playing on it while watching TV is pretty awesome though, as is the TV remote functionality. I think it'll be even more impressive on a game that pushes the hardware more than Mario does. I got some decent wireless range on it in my house as well, thankfully.

The system OS is really slow between apps, very clunky and disappointing considering the hardware. I was however impressed by the web browser which appears to use some pre-loading technique, cause it loads faster than my laptop browser!

Needs a few more price drops, and a solid game or two before I'll consider a purchase. The last few years of the Wii were lacklustre, 3rd party developers gave up, and even Nintendo stopped being innovative once they shifted to Wii U.

Plus they have shown time and time again, those that wait get better deals.

Yeah I picked up one on launch day. Got the Premium Black console and Mario U. The kids love Nintendoland and I enjoy playing a few of the games with them. Some of the mini games have a bit of depth to them too. As for Mario U, I swapped it 3 days later for Darksiders 2, as it was just a prettier version of all the others. Darksiders 2 on the other hand is awesome.

As for the Wii U console, some people see it as gimmick or less powerful machine then the X360 or PS3. But once you play it and realise that it can run various apps at once (game, miiverse, and Internet browser), across both screens, it's actually pretty powerful and very useful. I find myself checking websites in between game levels or watching YouTube clips to get hints, etc. Plus there was an system update last night which speeds up the slowish menus and loading times.

It's only gonna get better with new updates in the future and the software will be stronger in the next few months. It has great range too. The console is currently hooked up in my lounge room, but I can play using the Gamepad upstairs in bed and was even playing in the backyard while cooking a BBQ!

Awesome gaming machine and it frees up the tv for my wife and kids.

WHOOOOOOO! So after some messing about, a fair bit of swearing and sore arms, forcing me to take a day off the gaming console, I finally have 157 star coin thingoes for Sonic Transformed. I need 165 to unlock all the characters. Phew. Almost there.

I ahve been reading on the gamefaqs board about people complaining its hard, and well it is if you play on the hard and expert settings. But what i have found most interesting is that this method has forced me to play the game smarter. Whereas before I could manage the medium setting, but got my arse handed to me on hard, now I am at the point where I can usually beat the hard races and with a change of tactics the expert as well. I suspect that without the incentive of the collection of the star coins whatever they are to unlock characters, I would have not gotten to the skill level that I am now.

Sadly though this means that whenever I have the missus playing the game, I am bound to win. It has been an interesting concept for me. Annoyingly though to get the last 8 starscoins I need, I think I have to play the 'games' that I don't think are very enjoyable. Mainly the ring races where you ahve to fly through rings and battle modes where you have to chase and shoot a tank.

I hate the battle modes the most as the ammo pick ups are the same colour and almost the same shape as the little barriers the tanks drops to stop you from getting too close. Who thought this was a good idea?? I mean come on. I only have a couple of races to go for the stars which won't be enough, and they are on trracks I dont really like that much. But I will perservere.

So on the plus side, the difficulty has made me a better player of the game, but on the negative side, I very much doubt that many people will botgher as much as I have and there is no way in hell that a little kid is likely to unlock them all without some help. i must admit that once I got to about 115, I have been struggling with far more fails than victories.

Although the other night i was on a roll, which was incredibly satisfying.:D

Continuing on with my Sonic Transformed Adventure, I have been slowly chipping away at the last few starscoinwhatevers over the past few days. Its been tough. It appaesr that on the expert setting, you just can't hold the pedal down through the whole track, you have to slow down for the best race time.

Oddly though one thing I found incredibly annoying is that it obviously tries to keep the top racers in a group, but that doesn't seem to apply to you so much. As an example, I was on a speedy track, using Sonic with his 'Speed' mod (so all set for high speed, giving him the highest speed rating (about 8)so you'd think I'd blast through everybody, buut one of the slowest racers (speed 2) cruises up behind me and just sails on by as if all is sweet with the world. And yet if I am 10th at the back of the pack, 9 still decides that it's a good idea to shoot me. And I get no speed up to help catch up. Wierd.

Anyway long story short, after quite a bit of swearing, I finally managed to get the last coins I needed to unlock AGES, a lovely homage to SEGA coolness. And that was all I wanted, so I don't think I'll be going back to the coin mode any time too soon.

AGES comes from an advertising campaign that ran in the UK for the Saturn which had a catch phrase of "It takes AGES to get this good, It takes SEGA to get this good." Never came out here, coz we didn't have any saturn advertising. :p

That's all for now, I got some cups to win with AGES thanks.

Couple of personal milestones on Dead Space 2 multiplayer this week.

I set a new streak for myself - 38 kills. Mostly from rescuing and from the opposing team spawning as lurkers or the pack.

I beat a team by myself on the Escape map as a necromorph. The opposing team had a level 31 and 32. The other guy on my team wasn't playing - he's what I call an absent host (hosts the game but is not at his keyboard or whatever) - so I was all on my lonesome. And I managed to win! They got to the last objective but with only 17 seconds to go. The best part was one time while I was a lurker I managed to kill them both at the same time!

However I was told that people didn't like this game because it lost the 'Zelda feel' as it was very different. I am not noticing any of that here! I read that most complaints about Twilight Princess was the graphical change (i.e 'realistic' graphics). I think Gameplay wise it is pretty much the same as most of the other Zeldas.

I really liked the look and the game in general, the horse fighting was good and some of the bosses looked AMAZING! I especially liked the volcano boss. Most impressive. I think overall the graphics were pretty damn fine as well. My conclusion is that Twilight is in the top 3 of Zelda games. MM, OoT and Twilight.

I found Twilight Princess graphics to be more in line with Ocarina of time but updated. I didn't really see 'realistic' just more refined graphics since the newer console is capable of it but still in the same style. The most different Zeldas for me have been the Phantom Hourglass, Four Swords and that Generation of Zelda games that use cell shading for a cartoony look.

Just finished the main story of Tales of Graces f, and it is an awesome game. I loved it, and it reminded me of the JRPG's of old (and shows how much Final Fantasy has gone off track over these years). The game was so much fun, and I loved the bright colorful world. There's so much to do but the only thing I hate would be the difficulty spikes with the bosses. They are so frustrating, spamming moves and getting so strong when they're nearly dead. I had to tone down the difficulty just to get on with the story. Overall, for sure one of my favourite games.

I was lucky because the other team kept spawning as the weaker pack/lurker from two points that are close to each other, so I was able to grenade them both at once. For a while it was like a conveyor belt: spawn, stasis, splatter, repeat.

Need for Speed Most wanted is just Burnout Paradise with a new coat of paint and licensed cars.

Addictive and fun racing with a brilliant menu system that is unobtrusive and lets you find races/events really quickly. If you have friends online with the game it is even more fun, as you are constantly trying to beat their top scores, jump distances etc.

A massive step up for the N4S franchise that was all but dead to me before Criterion got their paws on it!

Shame that seller was otherwise scalping the rest of his wares, as he had quite a lot of stuff!

Very true. I still chuckle about him telling me Guardian heroes has gone for $400 on ebay... The rest of his Saturn games were fairly rubbishy though, billions of copies Sega Rally, Tomb Raider and Daytona CCE. I wonder what his lowets price was, I've seen TR go for less than 6 bucks and I wouldn't pay anymore.

Well maybe the SNES and 64 versions of Mario Kart are still better :D
But when they just keep rehashing it, barely changing between versions it gets a bit tiresome!

Gametraders sell a 3rd party controller for $30 that are alright in quality, not quite the same plastic or weight in the correct places but better than risking getting a second hand controller with the dreaded "dead stick" syndrome.

Always a risk with second hand 64 controllers.

I've been tempted several times by these analog stick replacements on ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160655759083?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649). Easy to install and supposedly decent.

I haven't bothered cause my lone N64 pad is still pretty good and apparently the feel is somewhat different just because of the nature of the n64's mechanical analog design and length of throw on the stick.

I can vouch for the replacement sticks, they are effectively mini-gamecube sticks, better than the original IMO.

I am very curious as to how this book will refer to Sonic 2006.

Preliminary scans (with my eyes) look promising and it is fairly long and nicely presented. I look forward to this!

So... plenty of Wii U news tonight!

Virtual Console for Wii U. Buy games you've bought before, again! But this time you can play them on the gamepad. Lame. I wish they'd stop wasting new game development resources on this but i'm sure it makes them a tonne of money so that'll never happen. They do have the option to 'upgrade' previous Wii VC purchases to Wii U ones for a fairly reasonable cost i guess, but i'm over it!

Yoshi platformer by Good Feel (who made Wario Land Shake It & Kirby's Epic Yarn). Looks more like Yoshi's Story than Yoshi's Island but i still have some optimism for this... though i've kinda got my 2d platforming fix from NSMB2 & U recently.

Zelda Wind Waker HD version for end of year. I wouldn't be interested if this was just HD, but they're apparently tuning up the gameplay, which hopefully amounts to re-instating the dungeons they inexcusably cut from the original release. And it wouldn't hurt to make ocean traversal a bit simpler and faster, and tighten up the end of game fetch quest while they're at it!

A new Zelda for Wii U... that's a long ways a way and again they're saying challenges the notion of what a Zelda game is. Hopefully the first thing they realise that it ISN'T, is a time consuming, hand-holding insult to player intelligence!

Mario Kart & Mario 3d something confirmed to be playable at E3.. Smash Bros in video form only.

What looks like a Xenoblade sequel from Monolithsoft.. is probably what i'm most interested in, having not getting around to playing the Wii game.

That's a lot of stuff but really most of it is predictable old Nintendo mega-sellers yet again... Yet another Nintendo announcement goes by without a new F-Zero, Wave Race or 1080! :(
I'm hoping they've saved some truly new or seldom revisited franchises for E3.

Winwaker HD. Hmm, I enjoyed it, but don't think I'd bother paying for it again to play, no matter how funky the new dungeons.

A zelda that challenges the notion of what a zelda game is? New Zelda Bros? Zeldavania?

Bah! I see the wiiu only look interesting with Ninty games. Now where have I seen that boring pattern before? :/

On another nintendo note. I want to play Code of Princess, since it seems inspired by Guardian Heroes. But it appears to only be coming to EU via digital DL. Up yours Nintendo and your DL BS. Up Yours again for region coding the 3DS and cutting supply of the games. Looks like I'll just be sticking with my OoT and TF Prime as the only 3ds game I own for now.

I'm not going to bother buying any more virtual console games on any nintendo platform until they get a decent user interface. I should not have to pay over and over again to downlaod games on my 3DS, Wii or Wii U.

E3 mariokart sounds interesting, I hope it continues in the path MK3DS has started heading towards, and not the Wii version (which was IMO the weakest in the series)

WiiU still fails to have that killer game that makes it a must buy. I may start bying the nintendo games and wait for a price drop in 18-24 months to buy the console.

I'm definitely in the minority but i'm really not phased by console prices. To me it's just a fraction of what you're going to spend over the life of a console. Particularly with Nintendo machines, if you like that sort of thing it's all but guaranteed they'll release most of the games you want, as these announcements show. Sure, something like $599 US Dollars (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH6zLx7AIM8) is ludicrous but Wii U is hardly breaking the bank even now. Having bought a 3DS at full price it's certainly better value hardware wise than that!

I didn't know there was a region lock in 3DS. Must research more. I bought a 3DSXL pretty much on a whim last weekend trading in my old DS and a bunch of games I was done with. But apart from New Mario Bros 2 and Pokemon XY there's not many 3DS games in the system I'm after at this stage. Just wanted to upgrade my hardware while I could still get some dollars for the old system.

For matchmaking games, I'd rather have a better K/D. When you get dropped into a random team, you can't really do anything about their skill levels, but your K/D reflects your individual skill whether your team wins or loses.

Um, i did mention new Wii U games: 3D Mario, new Zelda, new Yoshi, new Monolith game. Plus theres Pikimin 3, LEGO City Undercover, The Wonderful 101, Mario Kart, plus more. And yes i'm excited about possible Gamecube re-launches, even though ive played them all before. Theres nothing wrong with old games, Heck, most of them are better, longer and harder than most of todays garbage. You can's say you've never bought or played a HD repack of an old game (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy,)

Its funny how Nintendo gets bashed for releasing upgraded classic games and sequels, which still outplay most of todays titles, yet other systems release sequels (yearly updates of their games) which dont change gameplay, only characters and weapons, without a word said. e.g. COD series, FF series, Halo series. Its the same with Transformers: same robot, different coloured head, OMG GOTTA BUY IT

I think you're misunderstanding a bit, Wind Waker HD is a full remake not a Virtual Console release. Sure they could still have GCN games on Virtual Console one day but like the rest of the VC games they'll probably be exact. Maybe some upscaling but no extra effort - this is the company that still hasn't released and Super FX chip games on the VC after all!

How old are you out of interest? I remember when N64 was coming out and there was nothing i wanted more than Nintendo's big games (which they delivered in spades, albeit slowly!). But now, virtually everything they do has been played out so many times before for me. There's no doubting the quality is still high, and that they introduce heaps more new ideas than most developers (except in Mario Kart!)... but i just find myself feeling like i've played half their games before i've even turned it on! Their best game in recent times is Pullblox which is entirely new, so they've still got it in them, but man they are just trapped within their franchises.

Half the bashing you see isn't from people who're anti-nintendo or anything either, it's from longtime players who just want one of their less-often sequelled games to get some love instead of Mario for a change!

In the case of Tets above though, he's just a rabid Sega fanboy stuck in the 16 bit era so don't worry about him :D

I'm 34, married with 3 kids. My other hobbies are surfing (ocean type, not the Internet), fishing, building VW engines and drag racing them and of course video games. I've bought all Nintendo consoles and handhelds at launch, except for the NES and SNES. I also own an XBOX, X360, PSONE and sold my PS2 last year.

As for feeling like you've played half the games before even turning them on, that's how I feel about nearly every game I play today. Originality is rare in games today. Sure there might be an original concept or story somewhere in a game but the rest of the game is following in the footsteps of 10 games before it. If you enjoyed a game, what's wrong with playing its sequel, or HD upgrade?

And as for Wind Waker, it's no remake, just upgraded graphics (higher def, improved lighting), gamepad functionality and tune-up of overall game experience ( tighter controls, maybe fast tracking to islands once discovered). It also hasn't been confirmed if this will be disc or digital game. I can't see why it won't be available on the Virtual Console as they are launching at the same time. Time will tell.

Nintendo stick with their big franchises because that's what brings in the money. Why do you think Micrcosoft release a Halo game every 1-2 years, or why CoD is released annually? But the difference with Nintendo is that they change it up every once in a while. I can't see Halo being released in cel-shaded style, or CoD switching to 3rd person instead of FPS. They would lose 90% of their fan base. Nintendo have the balls to try new things and most times it pays off. They still make their games fun. Sure they left out Star Fox and Metroid in their future release news, but It doesn't mean we won't see them.

Ahem... Most games now have one too many dimensions for my liking!

Sega fanboy-ness aside, Considering all the new tech and shebang they slap in the wiiU, they still just rehash they good old stuff. Yeah, people buy what they know, but I am jaded by the wii, when about the only good games were nintendo ones... I guess it's an industry thing. Or maybe the wii was a victim of it's own success, most wii games are party shit made badly for the quick sell.

Plus I am generally against DL games, especially at the prices we get charged.

Slowly unlcoking some characters. I am surprised at how hard some of the challenges are this time. There is a noticeable difference between medium and hard levels.

I am really enjoying this game! The Afterburner level has some wicked-sticks music that I can't get enough of!

Yeha, the mods make a fair bit of difference that's fer sure. Its a bit of a shame in a way, becuase if you are keen on unlocking characters, it means you level up one guy over all the rest. I used Knuckles most of the time and had him maxed out pretty quickly. Barely touched some of the others, like Ralph or Tails until afterwards...

I think the next handiest character was Sonic.

Knux - Handling, Sonic - Speed.

I will say this though, I'd love to ask the programmers about the AI on the hard/expert difficulties. they manage to exceed their stats, greatly. Ulala is a slow character and yet on a straight, with Sonic, she can blast by without any boosts quite easily. What the hell, same with Beat and AiAi.

So its been a while since I had my ps3 online, so I thought I'd check out the PSN shop. What the hell is up with the way the layout is now? I went to find the FOC add-on stuff and using the search for "Transformers" "Cybertron" "dinobots" and whatever the name of the other one is, I couldn't bloody find them. Ended up stumbling on them by looking at EVERYTHING listed in the shop and squinting at the stupid crappy little icons they have. It was complete fluke that I even found them then, I had stopped to get a glass of water...

Then, they were still stupidly expensive anyway.

Well PSN, you can shove your new shop browser fair up your arse. I won't be going back.

I've had two nights of Dead Space 3 - the first as single player and the second as co-op. I was worried with co-op about getting into a game that was way ahead of me, but luckily the game I came into was only half a chapter behind where I had gotten up to the previous night.
There's not much of a difference between the two modes. There seemed to be more monsters in the co-op scenes that I had played previously as single player (which surprised the heck out of me the first time). I also had a 1-2 second lag when doing the puzzles.
DS3 is more in line with DS2 than DS1 - more of an action game than suspense/horror.
The weapon crafting bench is a nightmare to understand. I ended up using one of the standard blueprints and tweaking it (line gun with a grenade launcher, yeahhhhhhhhhh!)
Co-op does give rise to some funny situations. In one level we had to escape a shuttle bay with unkillable monsters roaming around, which involved using lifts. Unfortunately my co-op partner thought I was on the lift and used it, leaving me stranded with three monsters to contend with....
My main gripe is unlike multiplayer there's no breaks to replenish your drink :D.

sigh the acquistions thread and this thread tire me out...

Anyway since I am not acquisition-ing anything here I am.

Looking at buying Armoured Core game. I ahve found two that pique my interest.

Armoured Core V and "Armoured Core For Answer". yes that is really what it's name is. I am not too sure which to go with. Youtube seems to be lacking on ACFA reviews of any quality and I remember talking to someone about them at a nexus meet. Soooo, anybody had any AC experiences?

I'm an AC vet and I can vouch for the series, they are amazing if you're into customizing your own mechs and piloting them in epic missions.

Cool. I had a voucher and ended up getting V after much deliberation. I think the differences in HUD eventually sold me. Thing is, I probably won't be on MP much, and I believe the V campaign is a bit dry. But I mainly got it to make my own Mech ;)

Looking forward to giving it a while really.

One question, For Answer has the base assault mission, where you take on a massive battleship robot thing. From what I have seen they look awesome. Does V have those missions as well?

Been a big Mach game fan since I got hooked on Virtual on, on my Saturn. That and its sequel Oratorio Tangram on the DC have sucked away many hours of my life and I have't had a satisfying mech game for ages now. Gundam Vs ZAFT wasn't bad, but I couldn't really get into it. And I did really enjoy this awesome Japanese macross game. Very cool, made you feel like you were part of the world and piloting a valkyrie!

Some of those big missile sold me on AC though. Woot!

AC V shrunk the robots to have more domesticated, street fights then the large base scaling missions of AC4:FA.

Picked from misc toys thread, thought this would be a good spot.

Not sure if this is in the right section but here goes.....

Picked up a heap of PS3 games from various TRUs in Perth for $15 and under. They are getting rid of all their Xbox and PS3 stuff as they 'can't compete' with the likes of EB Games so I was told. Anyway, managed to get War For Cybertron, DOTM, ROTF and the first one, plus heaps of other titles.

Should be Australia wide?

Now all I need is a PS3 Console.:D

I'm one of those people who prefer to have objects physically in my hand, which is why I have avoided Steam in the past.
But last night one of my sons told me Fall of Cybertron and its expansion packs were on sale, so I weakened and joined Steam.
Purchasing was easy, then it said I had to download Steam. Fine, did that and a Steam shortcut appears on my desktop.
Double click.. "checking for available updates". After a while, "extracting package" and the window closes.
Hunky-dory, so I click on the shortcut again. And again, checking for updates.
Finished again, click again, checking and updating AGAIN!!!
And that's all it's been doing all night and morning!?!?!

Am I missing something or have I just lost my money?

I'm going to put this in the vent thread too. Any helpful advice would be welcome.

It may be your computer or you may have joined during an update.
I can't really help you, but I wish you luck.:)
Steam becomes really useful and easy to use once you get the hang of it, especially since there are a LOT of 50-70% off sales.;)
Hope you can get it fixed soon.

I too prefer to have the game in my hand, and since I don't play on PC I stay away. Good luck man.

I have been playing armoored core V lately and I think it's fantastic. The robot customisation is involved and choice is plentiful for making your own bot. Even making your own insignia is good fun. I have spent most of my time tweaking my bot with my limited bits and pieces.

But oh my god, the story mode. It is rather bad. Well, not even sure there is a story mode as such. You select a mission and off you go, but there are these two chicks who chatter over the comms for 'plot development' I guess. I have no idea who they are... Is one of them supposed to be me? Weird. It's so bad, it feels like they actually have tried to make it awful. The first introductory level I played was shooting stuff, people talking to me and some mech comes out, I blast him and all of a sudden there is talk of a chosen one.

My feeling after that bit was 'What the hell was that??'

Then some of the missions, for some reason I am fighting the police. Am I a terrorist? I think I am playing a mercenary, but ATm nothing makes sense story wise.. Luckily the game play is pretty spot on!

Was checking Hatsune Miku vids online to see what all the popularity was about and I strangely find myself wanting to get one of the games... hopefully Project Diva F gets a western release...

Thanks for the responses.

I got it working: had a list of solutions, starting with "turn it off and start again" up to reinstalling stuff. Luckily the second solution - "run as administrator" - got Steam working.... but then I had to spend most of the night waiting for the game to download.
When I got up this morning it was ready to roll... but I had to go to work!!!

I still prefer having the game in hand, though.

HA HA H A! Busted! The majiks of Miku.

I hear that SEGA are looking to move Miku to western shores, but if you don't want to wait, the ps3 version can juts be played on any old PS3 console.

It is however just a rhythm game and enjoyment comes from whether or not the songs take your fancy.

Yeah, the Facebook page where Sega was gauging interest on a Western release was what prompted me to check out the vids in the first place. Her songs are okay (at least they don't annoy me) and I love rhythm games so I shall give it a try (hopefully the english version since I just hate navigating menus in a different language).

When you can get games like la noire for $3.75 it's worth the occasional stuff around.

Just finished off Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands. It's got excellent platforming, but mediocre combat system. (pretty easy the fights)
