We do have an advantage in that regard, for example when I was looking at iPhones when overseas, although they were about $50-$100 cheaper, they only came with 1 yr warranty whereas here its 2 years.
That might be the "express warranty" from the Manufacturer, but our consumer law also defines that products should stay operational under normal conditions for a "reasonable time" - a ~$800-1000 phone should last a lot longer than just two years

Crash bandicoot is as punishing as I remember. Crash 3 less so. Saving the best (2) for last.
Read lots of reviews saying the jumping was broken, but I think they have forgotten that the jumping was always this way, you had to be very careful, especially in the first game. Getting into a rythm always helped!
Died 37 times on the last level on the first island, every single one my fault. I was too impatient or took too long for every one. But the game never looked better. My only problem is my brain won't make up its mind whether I use the analog stick or buttons, I switch mid level all the time!

lol, Crash 1 may have some real dick level design it's mechanically sound and every death no matter how annoying was my own fault.
Unless they mean that the jumping is different than the original, it is but only in 1 because they used the crash 2/3 movement for the remake of 1.

I remember an interview with some of the guys from Naughty Dog on Crash 1's development. The guys there were convinced the game was super easy, then SCEA's people tried to play it and got killed over and over. Turns out they had made the game so difficult that only people at Naughty Dog were able to play it and have fun with it, even then they died a hell of a lot. Once they realised their mistake they made the game much easier for the final release but it's still not an easy game.
Anyway, does anyone know of a place I can buy GTA 1 and 2 digitally? I remember Rockstar released the games for as freeware a while back but that site has been taken down and they are unavailable to purchase on Steam.

If you want them on steam then you will need to find an online key sites that has steam keys for the Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack Extended, which will give you GTA 1&2 on steam

What's the price for that looking like? I didn't want the hassle so just preordered the regular release from Play Asia, and the CD & box separately from Nintendo Store Japan. It blew my mind they were offering just that, but it's handy for me! Add in both the Amiibo and I've got myself a custom Special Edition!
Would you believe Nintendo is also selling a Splatoon 2 Switch bundle Box (which you assemble yourself and doesnt even have the inserts to hold the console) for 540Y!
There s only a place holder price of 39.99 Euros. That's the standard price so I wouldn't be surprised if that changes when the pre-orders open.
I have so far only seen it in Amazon Spain, nowhere else.

You can always emulate the environment like how DosBox does. I am pretty sure that with a bit of research and tinkering, any old Computer game can run on modern PCs.

DOS games are not an issue, as you say DOSbox is the solution in that case. Problem is Windows has changed so much over the years that a binary for Windows 95/98/ME/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 isn't guaranteed to run on Windows 10 even with built in compatibility modes. GTA 1 and 2 are both Windows binaries not DOS.

Was $39 a mistake? I thought it was just a sale price.
I want to get it (I enjoyed 3 on the PSX and haven't played the first two) but am happy to wait for it. Shame they didn't include Crash Team Racing - of course I get why - loved that game, best kart game I've ever played.
I see FFXII is getting a redo too. That was a great game and it's a reminder to me I never finished it. I stopped before the point of no return with the end boss to do the hunts. Then I moved and I never set up my PS2 again!

So I've been sinking some time into Overwatch lately and there is a system where at the end of a match the 4 players with the best achievements can get a like. It's a dumb system with no real point but it lets you show your appreciation to a particular player. 5 likes gets a witty comment from that player's character.
Healers, especially Mercy, get the 5 likes probably 90% of the time, as a kind of pat on the back for helping the team.
That is unless it's obvious by your username that you're a girl. Then you get shit. For example, tonight I played 5 or 6 games straight on a team with a player with the username that started with LegoGirl. Every game she played as Mercy. Did a great job at healing too, I don't think my health got below half for more than about 5 seconds before she magically appeared with her healing stick, and she contributed significantly to the wins that we had. Even using her ultimate strategically to essentially save us from the jaws of defeat on two occasions. This chick knew what she was doing.
Out of all those games, she was lucky to get one or two likes at the end of each.
Then I played another few games with a player whose username was not obviously a female and watched this person, who was a pretty useless healer by the way, clock up likes at the rate of a Kardashian.
I am disappoint.

Afaicr, iTunes already charges GST in their prices, as Apple has a big Australian presence already.
Steam game prices are annoying, if it's anything like Adobe's pricing combination of exchange rate shafting us, distributors setting "regional pricing" and Australia's so called "higher cost for warranty/support" - apparently our consumer laws are too expensive for some companies to deal wih
I ended up doing what I had not done in a long time when buying my latest games. I bought fallout 4 at eb because it was cheaper than steam at release, and more recently I bought bl2 pre-sequel at the eb game sale for $20aud instead of the steam $20usd. Yea, I don't buy many games anymore.
As for warranties, they should just top making garbage products that have an artificial break life span.

Yes it was. A ~25GB download at launch too. The dvd that comes with it just contains the steam installer iirc.
And at the time the season pass that included current and all future dlc was cheapest on steam. It was something like $30. That was the same for the bl2 pre-sequel as well. I got it for about $15 during the steam sale. Cheap to buy the game at eb, then cheap to buy dlc on steam.

I normally avoid buying physical disk because there are still some idiotic game devs that don't include Steam codes, that's why I asked if Fallout 4 was a Steam code. I really wish everyone would just use the big 4 platforms Steam, XBL, PSN and Nintendo.
On PC Steam should be the only client I have to install. I have no issue with the preinstalled XBL stuff because it's seamless with Windows and it's one of the big platforms. But come on, if I didn't disable them I would have Origin, Uplay, Battle.net and GoG all sitting in my system tray in addition to Steam and it's ridiculous. Just put it all in Steam.

Ok, so got my PS4 Pro today. Not a huge upgrade visually as I have a UHD TV that does not have HDR (yay early adopters). But I appreciate the games that have a toggle for 30fps and 60fps frame rates because I will take 60fps over higher resolution any day of the week. Also I found that it has a ton of air intakes on the vertical bottom of the console so if you stand it up vertical without the stand you block them and it goes from very quiet under full load to just as loud as the launch PS4.

Finshed with Sonic (all emeralds, extra boss/ending) and Knuckles.
Don't stress too much about blue spheres, all the good rewards are front loaded so you can get all the really good stuff without being perfect at it (I'm never getting all those medals, some of those are crazy hard)
Easily on par with the originals and only one zone I don't care for (Stardust Speedway, good boss though) so it's probably the most consistent (level quality wise) Sonic game of them all. Drop Dash was a great addition. I'm in love, it's perfect.

Called this morning to make sure the Xbox One X was in the system and available for preorder in store and that it was the normal $50 deposit. The lady said that it was available to order in store and that it was indeed $50.
Went into the store at about 12:30 and was told by the same lady sorry you need to go online to preorder it and then when I did go online to order it I found it was $100 deposit instead of the normal $50.
I would have gone and placed my order at JB Hi Fi after all that BS at EB but the nearest JB is about an hour and twenty minute drive away instead of 2 minutes drive for EB.

Most of the time, I prefer the pre-release code names than the actual final name:
Eg from recent times:
Project Scorpio - Much better than stupid ass XBox One X.
The Nintendo NX - Although Switch is a suitable name, no where near as cool as NX.
They should really remove the 'Marketing filter' when naming consoles. Development code names are much cooler.

They should really remove the 'Marketing filter' when naming consoles. Development code names are much cooler.
-Xbox Codenames-
Xbox was actually the codename of the OG Xbox so that time the code name did carry over.
The 360 had several codenames. Xenon was the original launch hardware. Xepher was a refresh of the hardware with an HDMI port and a fix for the RROD. Then they called the next version Falcon, which was a further fix for the RROD. The Xbox 360 S was codenamed Valhalla. I'm mixed on Xepher and hate Falcon but Xenon and Valhalla are cooler than Xbox 360
I hate Natal which was the Kinect's code name, but Kinect isn't great either.
The original Xbox One was called Durango which sounds like a car not a game console, Xbox One is better but it's still a confusing name. I wish I knew what the Xbox One S's codename was.
Project Scorpio is awesome, but I think they should have just called it the Xbox in the final version.
-Nintendo codenames-
The NES and SNES are very Japanese businessie names. Family Computer and Super Family Computer.
Nintendo 64 started as Project Reality, but I kinda prefer the Ultra 64 codename/preliminary retail name over Nintendo 64 and Project Reality.
Gamecube was Dolphin, I prefer Gamecube
Remember when the tough, angry looking Reggie was talking about Project Revolution? Well that turned into the Wii and I still hate motion controllers in all it's forms. Revolution sounded amazingly cool.
Project Cafe for the Wii U, yeah not a great codename either.
NX, that was cool, Switch works fine but NX was cool.
-Sony codenames-
I'm not great on these codenames.
OG PlayStation was codenamed PSX and PSX later became a super high end version of the both the OG PlayStation and PS2.
PS4 was Orbis and I kinda like that over PS4, I'm not really a fan of incremental numbers for console names any more than I'm a fan of it for PC parts.

Hah, it's like D grade movies, you know they're going to be crap going in but you don't care.
Back in the days of free game discs with pc hardware I scored a couple like that (and some real gems - the original Deus Ex came with my Soundblaater Live!) one of them served me really well to show a faulty GPU. Nothing special but I did end up playing through to the end, Will Rock I think it was called.
Another game I bought from the damaged pile while working at Kmart, not expecting much with a title like "Gun" but ended up playing through it a couple of times, didn't mind it at all.

Before the internet and local game publications, that was a real danger. Nowadays there are many ways to check if a game sucks or not. Also the corporate way things are run these days (and also back then to a lesser degree) makes it easy to make educated guesses too. Like if a game is based on 'Brats' or the latest blockbuster movie (or failed attempt), you know it will suck.

Even the original days of Xbox Live on the 360 when you could download a demo.
I think Sony actually killed the demo. I remember a bunch of developers complaining about the fact on Xbox 360 Microsoft would bare the cost of bandwidth while Sony would charge developers a fee for each person that downloaded a free piece of content on PSN. Sony was really out of touch in the early PS3 days.

Same with number two. Always need something ancient n evil in these revealing the past games. Number 2 was better story telling wise, bit thingy with cover shooting at certain points but enjoyable. Moving on to number three. Will there be an ancient civilisation of people to kill? Only time will tell......

I have issue with the first Uncharted game. It is the same type of flaw that you see in the whole series but for me it is more jarring in the first - You discover some temple that no one has ever set foot inside yet it is full of mercenary thugs?
I played all three, I enjoyed them but they are rather flawed in certain ways like the above which seems to repeat a lot and the one below. Presently I am playing Golden Abyss on the Vita. Seems like more of the same but once again, you discover some ancient temple and enter a door that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years yet the place happens to be full of generic thugs to shoot. This repeats several times per game.
I would be in total agreement with you - Good story, good characters but mediocre gameplay and cheaply set up shoot em up sequences. What keeps the game from being too frustrating is that the gameplay is simple and not taxing or boring to get through to the next story bit but gameplay is very formulaic.

Another one is that by the end of the games, it become a bizzare and badly executed Zombie survival rush game?

Oh since you're selling them $100 is too cheap if they are in good condition. Personally I'd sell them individually and price them like this: The Nathan Drake Collection and Uncharted 4 could easily get $40 each. Add another $30 for Return to Arkham and $20 for Arkham Knight. Crash is really popular at the moment so I'd put $50 on that one because it's held it's value so far. Not sure on Lost Legacy, as I'm not sure if that is selling well or not, try $40 as it's a very recent release.

Can't say how I came to this conclusion but I now realise how shitty your average gamer is at playing a racing game like Forza, Gran Turismo or Project Cars properly.
I'm not sure what Project Cars' online scene is like but if Forza and Gran Turismo are serious about having their multiplayer modes recognised as official championships by motor racing organisations like the FIA with major prize money, trophies and champagne they need to think again. I'm sure at the actual finals at race meetings like Le Mans the competitors can behave themselves and not treat it like bumper cars but at the entry point to the championships your average multiplayer race on Xbox Live or PSN is going to be farce.
Gran Turismo Sport better have a robust offline mode because I'm not going to be trying to qualify for any of their championships.

Batman is multi disc. Crash and uncharted are multi games.Ah fair enough. Well I saw Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy (guessing that's what you have) sell within 12 hours on a buy/sell/trade group for $30 so if they are all as popular at the moment you should be able to easily sell them and get $150-200.
Good rule of thumb is look how much a game costs brand new and minus 40% from the price, Crash for example is $49 at JB hi fi so if you price yours 40-50% off ($25-30) you'll get the sale. Too close to the new price and people will generally just go pay the little bit extra for the new copy.

I canceled my Xbox One preorder right away and I'm going to get it on Steam some time before release. It's a good thing Microsoft don't charge for preorders until the game is about to be released and they cancel orders and give refunds when needed easily. If I bought it on PlayStation I'd be shit-out-of-luck because they still refuse to give refunds which is against the law.

I was referring to their blanket refusal to give refunds not a change of mind policy, but any halfway decent store allows for change of mind. Anyway just looked up their current policy and looks like as of May they now allow refunds as long as you haven't started the download, which means if the game is broken like the last WWE 2K games I bought on PSN was a couple of years back they would still refuse you and that is still against the law. Yes they don't have to give change of mind, but until this change there was no refunds at all, that is illegal and the fact they refuse to give refunds if you have downloaded it would still be illegal since you don't know if the game is broken until you try it. This is the type of BS customer service that I hate about Sony and why I normally don't buy third party titles for my PS4 unless there is a very good reason to do so like the PC and/or Xbox version is broken but the PS4 version is fine.

Doom which appeared as a huge surprise. Yeah, it will never be 4K 60fps but it is very much playable, looks good and you can take it on the go.
This sets a standard that any new game that comes out can be easily adapted for the Switch as we can also see with the upcoming Wolfenstein.
Very exciting times for the Switch. for short length games like Wolfenstein I will stick with PC gaming for the best graphics as they are only a few hours of gameplay. However for large open world games similar to Skyrim or Fallout, I will seriously consider the Switch as those games require insane amount of hours (hundreds) and being able to play on the go would be very handy even with the lower graphics. If only there was a way to share save games between platforms...
When it comes to AAA gaming on the go, I have tried to use the Nvidia streaming feature with my phone and a bluetooth controller (on a frame like a handheld). It works remarkably well as I was playing Doom 2016 on my bed yesterday. Unfortunately on the go internet in Australia is still too primitive and expensive to work. Most only have a 1Mbps upload so you immediately get a graphical hit although still playable if you get a stable connection. Unfortunately the instability of our mobile networks, specially on the train kills it in the areas where it would be handy.
Given that the NBN is such a fraud, I don't expect the above to be rectified anytime soon sadly.

I'm sure there are people that can beat those missions, but considering that you'd have to do everything absolutely perfectly to do so takes the fun out imo.
The final areas in Diablo2 were easier in comparison, though at least in that game you could level up in earlier areas and prepare so that obviously helps

The complaints have nothing to do with people being upset over killing nazis in a game, they are about Bethesda seeming to be siding with SJW's/Antifa/leftists with their play on "Make America great again" saying "Make America Nazi Free again".
It's to do with the left calling everyone that disagrees with them "nazis" and Bethesda making a statement that implies they are taking sides politically, that "America is run by nazis".
Their trailer even says "not my america", another political statement that heavily suggests they side with all those that love to go around saying "not my president".
I dont think anyone cares that the game is about killing actual nazis, they care about the political implications that are being made

The cars are impossible to control with the assist off partially due to lack of feedback from rumble (the DS4 really could use rumble in the triggers for racing game like the Xbox One controller) and partially due to just the design of the game. I'm glad I was waiting to preorder it because it's not a great game. Looks like Forza Motorsport 7 will be the best racing game this year if they can iron out all the bugs/criticisms but till then Project Cars 2 is probably the better racing game of the three.

Well as I said I don't think this is about the game at all, I think it's about the company that made the game making their product (or at least the advertising for it) into a political statement.
It's the same as the AFL changing their corporate logo to say "yes" in support of the vote thing, all they did is drive away viewers by taking sides on a very sensitive issue.
These companies exist solely to entertain us so they shouldnt be taking sides in politics, they should stick to entertaining the public because all they end up doing is alienating half their audience.
Bethesda could have advertised Wolf2 without making it into a political statement, or they could have clarified matters easily by saying "we arent calling anyone nazis because of their political views, the slogan is purely about the game".
Instead they chose to make another statement that implies they think anyone that disagrees with them is a nazi, the same thing that a lot of leftists do

I'd have to disagree. People are seeing what they want to see. And it is entertainment, the game, and watching people get upset about it
And the whole yes/no vote thing is a load of crap. And let's keep that talk away from the boards
DarkHyren

I wasnt siding with either camp, just showing it as an example of things companies do that alienate customers.
I agree the vote (not to mention a lot of other things) has no place being discussed outside political circles, which is why I also think that politics has no place being pushed by entertainers.
Moving on.
Looks like gamers have had it with in game loot boxes with some people going as far as asking politicians to intervene because they see it as gambling. Politicians getting involved in games is the last thing we need, anyone remember having to import games because the Australian government kept banning or censoring them?Yeah I agree we really dont need certain people in charge of what games we can and cant play, they are still banning games in Australia that havent been banned anywhere else purely because it offends someones weak sensibilities.
The problem is too many of these people think games are purely for kids, doubly so if the game has "cartoon graphics".
The annoying thing now is that we cant even get American steam friends to gift us banned games or ones that are otherwise unavailable due to their more recent regional gifting/pricing changes :/
Because even though the devs said we could pirate Hotline Miami 2 I'd still like it on my account lol

I played the beta and really struggled to get gripped by it. I've spent large chunks of my adolescent and adult life gripped by games from the Battlefield/Call of Duty/Counterstrike franchises, but this didn't take me in the way that I'd hoped it would.
The ground combat was excessively shallow.
Starfighter combat was actually a lot better than I'd expected, but certainly not enough to move me anywhere near considering a full price purchase.
As far as I can see it, the things this game has going for it are that I love Star Wars and it's probably the best looking game in existence at the moment (and I have a shiny new top end gaming computer). The fact that it was mind numbingly boring to play and packed full of loot box and P2W bullshit means I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

Finished asylum and city. Now onto knight. Its interesting to see how technology in gaming has progressed through the years through this series. Knight feels too complex with its upgrade trees.
Half the skills and stuff in Knight I didn't even touch (like bullet resistance and gliding batarangs). I really enjoyed it and found a few of the new things rather fun, but there are some sections that were a little tedious.
For example, all the tanks battles. I really didn't find them very fun. But I did enjoy the chases and other things that involved the batmobile. I do wish that they had more sections that required stealth though. I felt that since Asylum, they've been moving away from the stealth mechanic and focusing more on the combat.
I did like the bank heist missions, with the time limit and option to go hard and fast on the stealthiness, but generally, there was a lack of stealth. Which made me sad

I was going to start playing Horizon on the PS4 but then learned that it is actually a fairly long game. Since i just came out of playing Fallout 4 for like 8 months, I figured I should try to get through the shorter hours games in my backlog. So I decided to start with Uncharted 4 since it isn't a long game. So far as we have discussed, excellent presentation, story and sets but repetitive game play that gets dull, specially when it emphasises on combat rather than the puzzle or discovery elements. However I will say that it feels more refined than the previous games so combat sequences don't feel as much of a chore.
I recently finished Uncharted Golden Abyss on the Vita exclusively while commuting - It was actually pretty good for a portable game. Certainly captures the feel of the mainstream titles. Although story wasn't that interesting, game play actually felt a little better but still basically the same. Motion gyro/touch controls do suck a bit but most have traditional alternatives and rarely imposes.

I didn't find Horizon that long of a game TBH and it take me ages to finish open world games. (like 5 years for RDR:o) The map in Horizon looks huge, but really it doesn't take that long to traverse it and many of the quests just have you going back and forth between areas.
Long story short, I managed to finish it in a couple of months (max) so it can't be that long. It certainly has nowhere near the same amount of content as Fallout.

In addition to having 2 D-pads become unresponsive in a particular direction since 2013 (both replaced by EB under warranty) I now have the left analog stick on one of my Elite controllers drifting to the left when centered and it also drifts back to centre when pulled to the right.
I have no idea how much Xbox charges to swap out an Elite controller but I'm glad they have the service on their support website because I don't want to buy another $200 controller. Looks like I'll be calling Xbox over the weekend to arrange a replacement.

Yeah I know for the PC version of Doom we have had multiple patches where the entire game was replaced in a patch. So it started as a 45ish GB download, then we got a 45ish GB patch to remove the Denuvo DRM from it. Then more recently we got a 65ish GB patch for whatever they decided to add to the game. They've changed the ringwraiths from generic human kings from the second age to some fairly big and well known names from the third age, that could not possibly be correct in any timeline.
Some died/were turned only hundreds of years before the Hobbit (or even closer) while the nine ringwraiths were terrorising the lands of Arnor and Middle Earth in general for thousands of years prior!

I found there were avenues to be stealthy with main story missions but not with the militia side stuff. Agree they need to go more stealthy. The controls were a bit dicky with all the combinations trying to hit them at the right time. Might be doing dc justice league movie tie in game.

It still suffers from repetitive shoot out sequences but overall they are handled better than previous games for sure. Another thing that was a welcome change of pace was that the ending makes sense and doesn't go into crazy which is a huge contrast to the building plot earlier as per previous games.

EA is concentrating purely on Online multiplayer games for the micro transactions. It explains why they are closing studios they acquired that are known for single player games.
It's a shame as some of those studios have a great history going back several years. Bioware for example which has shown a steady decline since EA took over and probably next in the chopping board. No more Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc at least not as we would want them to be.
At least this may encourage other companies to make their own new IPs.

What's scary is that EA is not yet doing everything they can to get people to use microtransactions. If they wanted to increase the amount of money they get from microtransactions they would include for "free" with the purchase of the game a sizable amount of in game currency and use it to train the player to use microtransactions like free to play games do.
I want this year's Need For Speed game, but I'm afraid they are going to microtransaction the hell out of it so I'm waiting for reviews.

Depends on the game. Sometimes content is baked into the core game download either from day one or added in a patch and you purchase a key to unlock it, but sometimes it's a completely separate download.
Best way to tell if DLC is part of the main game install is from how big the DLC is. Around 10-15mb or less and it's likely built into the game.
Most devs are putting the DLC into the main game files these days just for compatibility reasons, especially if the game has online components.

Not sure what platform you are on but I think you're confusing a patch (update) and DLC. All of Arkham Knights patches are pretty big (some over a gigabyte) and the last patch for the game was released over a year ago and weighed in at over 600mb. Those are rolled into the main install of your game on most platforms.
If you are seeing a separate file of 45mb then that will be DLC and not a patch. 45mb is actually not enough for costumes in this day and age, it's probably a key to unlock something in the up to 55gb that make up the install of Arkham Knight (though a key should only need to be 10mb to 15mb). I'm guessing you either bought some DLC for it digitally or entered a download key that came with a physical copy and forgot.
Best way to find out how to unlock a specific item in any isn't to ask here, we are not a large enough community. Just goto Google and search for the information you require. For example if you wanted to know how to unlock the Lamborghini Aventador in the 2012 remake of Need For Speed Most Wanted you would Google "NFS Most Wanted 2012 Aventador Unlock" and you will find videos and forum post with the information.

I can't quite figure out what EA are doing with the Star Wars license to be honest. They're more than 3 years into a 10 year exclusivity deal and have released a single game, though I will grant you that Battlefront 2 is due in 3 weeks. Aside from that they've only got two other Star Wars confirmed projects on the go at the moment - the action-adventure that just got taken off Visceral and an RPG neither of which are due until 2019. Surely you'd think they'd be pumping out the releases hard and fast given that the popularity of the movies and the franchise as a whole peaked in 2015 and seems to be gradually declining from GODLIKE to STANDARD MEGA HYPE.
I think the lack of service has annoyed me doubly in that there are so many different genres to canvas in that universe as well - first person shooters, third person shooters/action adventures, racing games, flight combat games, role playing games and real time strategy games.
There's a fantastic detailed read on Kotaku at the moment about how the Visceral Star Wars game collapse was partially because the whole thing was a mess. (https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/10/the-collapse-of-viscerals-ambitiousstar-wars-game/) A lot of damning content there for EA's management of the project.
I guess I'm just yearning for more of the games that were so seminal to me as a child and young adult - Rogue Squadron/Leader, Podracer, Jedi Knight/Academy, KOTOR1/2, The Force Unleashed, Galactic Battlegrounds, Shadows of the Empire (!!).

Any value in old PC games or should I just bin them all?Depends. If any of them are steamworks/uplay/origin only and require binding keys to your account (and you've done so) or require GFWL then yeah not worth much for play value.
The disks are only really worth it if you collect the physical media, but even then they dont sell for much to collectors unless it's a super collectors edition that was limited in numbers. Most of these sorts of things end up in charity stores for $1.
I'd take the TF and C&C ones off your hands just to have physical copies for my PC games shelf but honestly just the postage might be paying more then they are worth lol.
The Fear sequels might tempt me though...Just an FYI, Fear 2: Project Origin (assuming that's the "Fear 2" Autocon has and not "Extraction Point") required Steam authorization, so it's probably worthless if it is that and has been used.
All the Fear games have been had their steam keys bundled for like $1 and will do so again most likely, so that's an option if you just want them to play.

If it’s a space issue then just get one of those CD albums and keep the disc/manual/key. That’s what I’ve done and I have a ton of games tucked under my desk.

Also most of those games are available on Steam and most people prefer to buy Steam digital copies over physical in the PC gaming realm. All those games could easily be bought for under $5 each on a Steam sale. So not good for the value of old PC games.
I paid something like $10 (total) a couple of years ago for every single C&C game ever made. At that point I threw out all my disk copies. That's what you're up against when it comes to value of PC games.

It's just not in demand, especially when you can get Command and Conquer: The Ultimate Edition which has all the games in it for under $20

Today I tried to use the refund request process for change of mind on Xbox. Despite the process being clearly described in Xbox's terms as any game bought less than 14 days ago and played for less than two hours (which I bought today and played for 30 minutes), Microsoft, or at least their asian call centre claimed all purchases are final.
After doing the whole "ACCC says refusal to give refunds is against the law" routine they gave me a one off refund. (and yes I know the ACCC doesn't say anything about change of mind but it worked)
They didn't even care that Microsoft's own policy says Xbox gives refunds on any full game download if you bought it less than 14 days ago and played less than 2 hours for any reason (which includes change of mind).
Anyone know a way to get in touch with someone here in Australia or in Redmond, WA and report these stupid call centre workers?

Vendors just make crap up when it comes to having to comply with legislative refund obligations. It's predatory bs.
About 18 months ago I bought FIFA16 for Xbox360 accidentally, instead of Xbone. I realised about 45 seconds after leaving the shop, turned around, walked back in, presented the still shrink wrapped box and explained to the man who had just sold the damn thing to me that I'd mistakenly grabbed the wrong version, and asked if I could refund/exchange it for the Xbone version and pay the difference in price.
"Oh, well as you're not a member of our EB World Club we can't refund or exchange that, sorry"
I'm loathe to play this card normally but I basically told the guy I was a practising lawyer and that we both knew that EB had to fulfill legal obligations to all customers and not just those who were on their mailing list.
I was granted the usual 'one time only exemption fully at the discretion of the store just this time only'.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I found Phil Spencer's @microsoft.com email address on a listing of CEO's email addresses. I've had good luck in the past emailing executives both here and internationally about bad customer services experiences so I sent one to him.
Explained that I'd been using their products for a really long time (since the OG Xbox, man I'm old), how great the company has been to me and told him what happened today and asked that the refund policy is made clear to all customer service staff.
Not asking for a million dollars compensation or anything stupid, just asking that the policy is clear to all.

Then after I got the refund I'd report the store to the ACCC and put it on my personal blacklist, scumbags like that dont deserve customer loyalty.

If there's one copy that sold at $20 but 10 copies that sold at $2 then I think it's safe to say that you wont get the $20 (or $10).

I'd be really interested to hear how that goes. I would almost guarantee that the CEO of Microsoft can't be emailed by just anyone. Either, as an unrecognised email address, it gets diverted/auto deleted, or he has a PA that intercepts his emails and he/she will divert it to the general customer service mailbox. Because imagine the emails this guy gets sent and the quantity they get sent in...

I've never had any email I've sent to a CEO or in this case Senior VP ignored. I'm sure some companies have an assistant read the emails but if a customer takes the time to email an executive about an issue they normally are responsive as long as the person emailing is not a dick about it. It's not publicly acknowledged but most big companies actually have entire teams dedicated to this job.
When I had an issue with my Apple Music subscription from Telstra that resulted in Telstra and Apple both pointing fingers at each other saying "it's their fault go talk to them" I emailed Tim Cook and the next day the Senior VP in charge of Apple Music in Australia gave me a personal phone call apologising and getting me setup with an engineer in Cupertino who fixed the problem. I wasn't the only one with the issue but I got Apple to stop pointing the finger and take ownership of the problem and fix it for myself and the others that were getting jerked around by both companies technical support.
As for my email to Phil Spencer I got an email in early hours of this morning back from a special support level at Microsoft apologising for the issue saying it shouldn't have happened and crediting my Microsoft Account $20. Unfortunately in this case they didn't mention any corrective action with the support staff.
So yeah I've done this about 4 or 5 times always resulting in at least an apology. You don't normally get a response from the executive you're emailing but they take emails to them seriously as long as you're polite.

It is a standalone game that originally started as DLC but then grew bigger. It's shorter than Uncharted 4 and reuses a lot of the gameplay, hence the cheaper price (originally released at around $40). It's a new story following a different lead character, for $20, it is definitely worth it.

Yeah saw that yesterday and to add to the governments looking into loot boxes both Belgium and Hawaii are looking into banning them. As Jeff Gerstmann pointed out on yesterday's Giant Bombcast and I agree with him, you don't want US lawmakers getting involved in this but EU lawmakers are generally more consumer friendly and more likely to do a good job of it.

Yeah I've heard it's got tons of great sequences and an ok story, but it's punishingly hard and not in the good Dark Souls way. I have no issue with cut scenes if it's showing me something cool or interesting.

Yeah 200cc surprised me. I haven't played a Nintendo since the 64 (which I still have, but it looks like garbage on my TV). I tried it almost immediately and came 5th in the Flower Cup. Considering I haven't played MK in at least 10 years, had no idea of how the game really worked and had absolutely no idea about the tracks, I thought even that was a bit easy... or I'm just THAT good :p

5th isn't good in Mario Kart. The gameplay design in Mario Kart is setup so you should be coming in the top 3 at worst. The AI and pickups are rubber banding mechanics designed to have you either in first or close to it without getting a huge lead. Get too bigger lead, you'll get hit with a blue shell and the AI will speed up. If you're too far back in the pack and you'll get an invincibility star plus the AI will slow down.
Anyway I'm going to be interested in a couple of weeks when everyone's GOTY awards get released to see who puts what game as their GOTY. I'm thinking it's going to be a three way fight this years between Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey and PUBG, though some outlets won't consider PUBG because it's 1.0 release is coming in late December.

Bloody hell that’d be two weeks continuous for me
I’ve been playing Outcast: Second Contact a bit today, remake of the old ‘99 game.
It’s like a weird hybrid of today’s and last century’s games - graphics are drastically improved, yet the actual level design doesn’t look much different - like they’ve just put a new “HD” layer over the top. Gameplay, controls and audio are almost the same as the original - a little awkward nowadays.

I'm not surprised Horizon ZD got snubbed, for every person that thinks it's amazing there's someone that thinks it's not that good. I'm personally in the "I want to love it, but something's not clicking" category.
I must be becoming a curmudgeon because some of the reveals had me thinking "WTF is this crap?".
I don't see why people love Hideo Kojima, that Death Stranding trailer is the biggest nonsensical BS he has ever made.
How on Earth did Forza Motorsport 7 win best sports/racing game? I play it daily but it launched as a buggy mess with promised features missing. It's only now getting to a state where I'd be comfortable recommending it to more casual racing gamers. That said GT Sport and Project Cars 2 are even more unrecommendable, but for different reasons. Surely F1 2017, DIRT 4, Madden or FIFA would have been a better choice.
I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels Zelda BOTW is the best game this year.

That's the thing with Horizon; it's a pretty good game. But the more you play it, the more you are left wanting. I really liked the story and will pick up Frozen Wilds at some stage. But I bought BOTW the other day and while I'm only about 6 hours in, I completely understand why it got GOTY and it is so far above everything else it's ridiculous.
God I despise racing sims. They are so boring. But I used to track my WRX so I guess I'm used to the real thing.

Are you me? I feel the same way about Horizon. Sure the graphics looked great, but really, you were so directed along paths it was ridiculous. Evrn the story to me was only slightly better than "OK."
As for Death Stranding... The only thing I'm interested in that game is, is the name just Horrible Japanese english word mutilation (Like Re-Vengence), or a clever pun.
Like strands of death.
Stranded by death (somehow)
Or standing and strand or stranded combined?
That is ALL I care about. And not even that much.

Has anyone picked up either of the current gen versions of FOC? I never really have given any thought to the rerelease of it.

End of year sales have started on all the big platforms except Nintendo's.
Anyone buying anything in this sale?
I was going to pull the trigger on Nier Automata but it's not in either the Steam or PSN sales.:(

I think someone at Sony owned Naughty Dog needs to learn not to bite the hand that feeds him on Twitter...

This is interesting. 2017 games that were censored/banned. (https://www.polygon.com/2017/12/31/16836138/the-year-in-video-game-censorship)
Somehow Australia only got one entry on the list. New Zealand on the other hand looks like the new Australia banning multiple games.
Anime games seem to be consistently censored in the west and WWII games are obviously consistently censored in Germany.
Japan apparently has some aversion to extreme violence I didn't realise.
Overall not a bad year in censorship unless you really want underdressed anime characters in the west or Nazi symbology in Germany.

Regardless of who employs you, you should be able to call a shit situation shit. I know that's not how the world works, but I personally see nothing wrong with it.

On that point I recently found quite bewildering. I bought the Japanese version of Witcher 3 and discovered that all the poor peasants had rather nice undergarments. Also, the brutal, gory world in which they live was less gory too.
Considering how I can easily get my hands on a game that allows you to shoot schoolgirls and see their under wear, or easily watch extremely gory anime and movies without any issue, I was somewhat taken aback that a ripped in half dude in the witcher had a cavity, whereas others had yucky bits.
The word works in strange ways. I ended up taking it back and got a refund, then bought the Australian version instead. Just ruined the atmosphere the strange inconsistency.

Are the retro consoles sold in EB games any good?
I think I saw an Atari and Sega MegaDrive (or something like that).
I have a Sega Dreamcast that I still love to play when I have time.

The Mega Drive is terrible according to reviews and many games on the console are not real Mega Drive games but rather some BS they threw together to pad the numbers.

The Atari was much better received but unless you have a ton of nostalgia for that era it's probably best just to play the games on archive.org as that era hasn't aged as well as the 8bit and 16bit eras have.

Used a voucher I got for Xmas to get the latest South Park game for the PS4. It was discounted to $39 :D
Of course I forgot that my son is now old enough to understand the language so I’ll only be able to play it when the kids are asleep and I myself am not exhausted which is basically never

Did the same Trev, thanks to the staff at JB not changing their stickers over after New Years. It was $39 in big w anyway but a steal at that price.
Nearly finished the battlefront 2 campaign. Many reviews had it at 4 hours long, but my penchant for going and seeking the collectibles and my awful ability at the game has stretched it out to over 7 hours! :D
Doubt I’ll play offline and there are the arcade modes that should be entertaining. It is one gorgeous game, too bad the micro transactions debacle put many off purchasing it, I’m no shooter fan but I find it lots of fun!

I've been playing a bunch of old games since Christmas, trying to get that pile of unplayed games down to size.
Started with Ducktales Remastered, I just have one level left to play in that game.
Also played a little of the Disney Afternoon Collection. I quickly realised that Ducktales was made way easier in the HD remaster purely by simplifying how Scrooges cain works.
Played about 10 hours of State of Decay, that game is amazing. If you want a horror based zombie game look elsewhere but if you want an open world action game that just happens to have zombies it's really cool.
Started Saints Row IV again, this time with the Re-Elected edition. I'm not long into the game but but I'm already at about 15% complete and most of what I've been doing is going after the Data Clusters that are spread all over the city. But it's awesome when The Touch starts playing on the in game radio while you're clearing out an alien structure.
Played a few rounds of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition with the Ultra Street Fighter IV addon. It still feels like a much better game than Street Fighter V.
Metal Gear Solid 5. Yep, I still suck at those games without a radar.
Played the trail on Xbox One X of Watch Dogs 2, I'll pick it up when it's a lot cheaper.
Finally played a little Hitman, just wish I didn't have to pay extra for the GOTY stuff they brought out for it.

Recently went to see the new Jumanji movie and what a blast from the past at the start. A fellow metalhead playing Twisted Metal on the PS1 and just like the metalhead writing this post he was playing as Mr. Grimm the best character in the game.:D
