What's this clearance? Is Target getting out of video games like Kmart did?
I don't have a Target near me so I can't go check it out.:(

Clearing all the stock from last year at stupid low prices to make way for the AAA titles this year.

It started yesterday, most of the good stuff would have been cleared out by now, that is, if they had any since the really cheap stuff had only 1 or 2 copies at random stores.
I finished the first route and halfway through the second in Nier Automata. I was a bit iffy about the game at first since it was hyped up, but I am loving it. The music, the combat, the desolate world, one of my favourite games for sure.

Played through several solid hours of Spider-man and Im really enjoying it. From nailing the web-slinging feel to the script and story, this really feels like a Spider-man game. Although not as accurate as The Division, which had a smaller playable area, making the entire Manhattan island an open area does the franchise justice. Combat is done well enough, though the Arkham series is still the gold standard. My only gripe which others have found is the absurd amount of collectibles and irrelevant side quests. As far as Im concerned its just pointless filler and a lazy way to make a game feel longer.

Same, the games so far aren't "shut up and take my money" worthy - and I can still play my favourite PSX games on my PS3.
(It does has FFVII but I'm waiting for the remake)
I thought it was a joke when I first saw it on Twitter. I'd personally be more interested in a mini-64.

Yeah Im just past the bombing, so not too far ahead of you. There are some intense af scenes in it. The helicopter chase was unreal and literally had me, in my super duper headphones, on the edge of my seat.
And I love the combat. It took me a while to get it but it I have the hang of the whole hit-hit-dodge thing now. It addresses one of the biggest problems I had with the Assassins Creed games in that no matter how many enemys you were facing at one time, you were never really at risk of dying. In this, I die a lot.

Combat is way better than the AC series. It really opens up towards the end with all the different gadgets. It was immensely satisfying to clear camps with combos.
Completed the game last week, this is one of the best this year for sure. Would have platinumed it if not for EBGames's $66 trade in value. Will pick up the deluxe digital sometime.

Loving Spodman sooo much! ;) :D
Like others though, I haven't done much story wise but seem to be up to 30%.
Kind of liking the Otto Octavius progression, amongst other things. Many cool touches, like Jonah jameson commenting when you wear certain costumes, finish tasks etc.
Just unlocked fast travel and thought it was funny, but prefer swinging wherever. Currently though I'm suffering from too many Demon random attacks. I finish one and its like 4 minutes later there is another around the corner.
Also the in game tweets are awesome. Saw a couple from a Clark_G. Is Philip Coulson watching me?

Im annoyed because I can afford all these upgrades (not that I utilise gadgets much yet, only have the two and keep forgetting I have them) but I need research tokens and I think now that Otto has lost his lab I may be able to do more research tasks and get them...
I've died a ridiculous amount of times to the point I was thinking of dropping down to easy but then I found my groove with a side mission where you have to unjam some radio towers guarded by goons and then a mission to get rid of a cache of Fisk weapons and boom, no deaths since. Getting the combo flowing with aerials, spamming web shooters and ripping weapons from hands really gives you time to get the R1 and L1 throws in.

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of the best way to offload 2x $20 steam vouchers ? I got them from a promotion and at the time had ideas of what to use them for, but have since realised that I realisitically have no intention of playing any other games apart from the 2.5 I already play, and would rather just buy stuff in game in them (but they aren't on steam).
Just assume since they're vouchers and you scratch codes, and you can literally walk out of a store with them without activating, that people might be sceptical to buy them.

Gumtree, cash only on meet up at public place. They hand over cash first, then you give code for them to redeem right away on using phone app. If it works, everyone is happy. If it doesn't, then you give the money back. Still a bit risky though.

The hard drive in my Xbox One X is practically dead. That makes the 4th Seagate hard drive I've had either die or be DOA in the last 12 months. Seems like it's a good idea to buy WD hard drives at the moment.
Both Seagate and WD go through bad periods, it's just a matter of picking the right one at the right time or you get a ton of dead hard drives.

Not hyped for RDR2, but then I'm a PC guy.
There are rumours doing the rounds that Rockstar/Take Two will do with RDR2 what they do with the GTA series - pretend that it's not coming out for PC for about 18 months and then launch it at full price. If that's the case I'm not touching it - if Rockstar don't respect my platform of choice they're not getting my money.
In other news, I keep forgetting that a) Hitman 2 (or Hitman 7 as it really is) is coming out in 2 weeks, and b) that it's a full game at launch, not episodic like the previous entry. I will probably grab it.

Unlike you all, I can't wait to finally leave work this afternoon and pick it up. What I am not hyped for is that I won't get to play it till tomorrow because of the massive install and probably hugemungous update that will need to be done before saddling up my horse.
I have resorted myself to being ok with never playing a game on day one because of installs and updates. I took the day off when "The Division" came out, let me clarify. I needed a day off anyway so I took it off, the bonus was that "The Division" was being released on that day. Got to JB at 9am for opening took it straight home and didn't actually get to play it till 2pm. At least I got the housework done while I was waiting.

There's no day one patch AFIK. RDR2 is the first game to do two install disk in the one case this generation which up until now both Sony and Microsoft have claimed is impossible. The download size on Xbox One X was around 88gb which then expands out to over 100gb when you first start the game which is another first as compression of games is not normal anymore thanks to digital delivery being more 1:1.
I played a couple of hours last night and stopped after getting to the first town. It's amazing in it's detail, but I'm certainly still not entirely sold on it.

I got the digital version of Horizon ZD for like $40ish with all the DLC included just a year or so after release. Sony isn't afraid to heavily discount their critics darling games. I wish the likes of Activision would learn from that instead of still charging like $50 for a decade old Call of Duty game I'd like to download so I can get rid of the disk.

I never placed Blizzard on that high of a pedestal truth be told. Theyre the masters of monetising their gaming franchises and want peoples money like any other business. We only dont fully hate on them like EA (bad!)because their games are actually good and they make awesome cinematics.
Blizzards response however is a classic example of How not to deal with negative consumer feedback 101.
I kinda wish the Diablo franchise was done and dusted, having played and loved all three. How many times can they keep bringing back Diablo only to have his ass beaten back into hell by a group of plebs?

I tend to agree with this Twitter thread (https://twitter.com/gaohmee/status/1059163196324343808?s=21). Why is reskin a dirty word? If it's a cool game, who cares? As long as no wrong was done in the making of, I'm fine with it.

Hitman 2 is a fun game and you should play it.
I bought the Gold Edition so I've been enjoying the early access period over the weekend. For the standard fee of entry you get 6 locations, 5 of which are massive sprawling environments. The other serves as a tutorial level but there's enough meat on the bones of it that I'm sure they'll release some variants of it down the line.
To get from one side of the game to the other once it took me about 7-8 hours. That was a slightly save scummy, proper play through where I didn't kill non-targets, except for one time once in the last mission where I went a bit nuts with a silenced Uzi in a stairwell because it was getting deep into Sunday afternoon and I had to go to the gym.
That's just once through, though. Even excluding just outright shooting a target in the head from your pick of distance and angle, or bludgeoning them or poisoning their food there are at least a solid dozen ways to finish each mission. Ive impersonated barbers, misdirected a combat drone prototype, sabotaged a race car, posed as a physician, delivered poorly written love notes, and lured a man into the jungle to pick flowers. There's enough depth to each mission to warrant a few playthroughs.
Owners of Hitman 2016 get all of that games levels in the new game, all slightly tweaked to account for new gameplay mechanics. The first of Hitman 2's live events starts next week - a mission you've got 10 days to finish in which you have to kill literal Sean Been. There's a competitive multiplayer mode, you can design your own hits - there's a lot to do.
Get it, it's fun.

I find Hitman a little too frustrating cause I am the type of person that must complete each level PERFECTLY. But that's a me issue and everything I've seen on the game says it's great. DF did an analysis of the tech used and it looks amazing in it's tech especially in regards to its use of reflections.
I just wish certain reviewers would stop calling the cars in the Miami level Formula 1 cars. They are clearly fictionalised Le Mans Prototypes, not F1 cars.

I know what you mean.
My only complaint about the new games (This and the 2016 game) are that it makes you feel like a bit of a loser if you just stealth your way in, shoot the target and hide the body in a cupboard. You're made to feel as if you've done things the least imaginative way possible, which I suppose as compared to disguising yourself as a flamingo to lure the target into a blackmail scam is probably true.

Ive really enjoyed Fallout (3, NV, 4) but havent been inspired to get 76. I like to experience a good story in the few hours of gaming time I have each week and so what is sounding like a big empty lonely MP experience isnt what Im looking for.
Havent said that Ive just finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Its a good game, which follows the same formula as the previous games. This is not necessarily a bad thing but the series risks stagnating if they dont up the ante.

Big W will have God of War on special next week apparently.
I liked Tomb Raider but there was a bit of sameness to it (not as big an improvement over the last game, compared to Rise).
I'm currently close to the end of Spider-Man and while it's fun, and the webslinging is absolutely fantastic, it does otherwise feel like I'm playing a new Arkham City game. Which is also not a bad thing, I got a 100% completion on Arkham Knight earlier this year, but I didn't expect going it for it to be so similar in structure and gameplay. I have occasionally pressed Batman move commands.

Nobody else seems to have their up yet. I'm really waiting on Steams sale to start so I can figure out how much I have left for the consoles.
Also of note. I got this email from Steam.
Hello DELTAprime,
Steam will soon be priced in Australian Dollars!
If your Steam wallet has any money in it on November 21st, 2018, your U.S. Dollar balance will be converted to AUD, at a conversion rate dictated by market value at the time of conversion.
To view your account balance, simply log into your Steam client or the Steam website at http://www.steampowered.com. Once you have logged in, you will see your balance in the upper-right corner next to your account name.
I hope this isn't an excuse to jack up the price for Australian buyers any more than some publishers have already been doing.

Which publishers?
Haven't you noticed we have been getting over charged by some publishers?
The standard price for a game in USD is $60, Ubisoft are charging $70 for the standard version of the games. They are not the only ones but are the biggest offender.
If Steam does a straight conversion of the USD price to AUD with no funny business that changes with the conversion rate then this change won't be a big deal and might actually save me money cause of the Commonwealth Banks international transaction fee. But if they are going to jack up the price to $100 AUD or more for new releases then I won't be happy.

Call of duty was a good example not too long ago. In the American steam store it was $50 US. In the Australian steam store it was $89 US. The exact same thing. Just nearly double price for Australian customers because why not.
It's mostly the publisher who sets the prices not Steam itself I'm fairly sure though. Still super annoying and arrogant though.

Playing through Shadow .. T.R. It doesnt feel polished. Animations disappear in cut scenes(as in whole characters not in the scene), mouth movement not in sync, plants etc in the way when trying to shoot, scenes/backgrounds disappear when against the walls, fish and people disappear or up in the air. Its like they knew there would be patches so didnt bother to polish it or pressured by the publisher to finish on time. Im finding the first two games better. Im at the hidden city. Not sure it will improve.

I was able to get my PS VR and a RIG 400 headset at Big W today for the Black Friday sale price. So it seems some Black Friday deals are already active in the system.
As for Steam. Valve said in a message to publishers that it believes it's best to price games for Australian customers at the same price as US customers because they have data that shows games priced at parity in Australia to the US price sell at least 20% more units than price gouging games.
Too bad the only developer on my Steam wishlist that seems to have taken that advice is Colossal Order who make Cities Skylines. The DLC I have on my wishlist for Cities Skylines is the only item that isn't price gouged now.

Star Trek Bridge Crew (PS4 Pro)

single player game, sequel to the Darksiders 1&2 games - #1 was pretty linear, #2 was likened to a dark version of the Zelda series - pretty open world, but you need to get certain equipment to progress past certain areas of the world
It's on 3 DVDs for PC, but for PS4/XBox with their Blu-Ray capability, I'd say the whole game'd fit on a single disc.

RDR2 is on two disk. You have everything you need to play the game without patching. However I really suggest you patch games. The code on the disk always has issues these days. The standard MO of the games industry is ship it and then fix the bugs in a patch. Also you are missing out on additional content for many games (and not all of the content is paid for, some is free)

Thinking about it, it was Fallout 76 not Red Dead he had issues with. Red Dead should be fine, but as Delta said, you should download the updates, sometimes they are needed to keep the game running smoothly or additional content.

Apparently the immediate post-release of Just Cause 4 is a big of a mess. The game shipped with some kind of crippling graphics bug that makes the game look like a last gen title.
I'm assuming it can be patched because none of the massive abundance of YouTube footage of the game looks like that, and I'm excluding the possibility of some Ubisoft style bullshit artistry simply because they marketed the game by giving a whole bunch of YouTubers early access, and all of their dozens of videos looked fine.

The first three Mass Effect games are amazing, even the DLC is worth playing (and almost essential) as it adds to the story greatly.
My only gripes are that I found you need to do at least two playthroughs of the first game to get the best ending possible (have all possible crew members make it through to the next game). Then the Suicide Mission in ME2 requires a guide not to have your entire team wiped out. They fixed those gripes in ME3.
Due to engine limitations the 3 games have some major performance problems on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PS3, but run smoother on Xbox One X. PC is a bad way to play them as there is no controller support on the PC versions and the game is really meant to be played on controller.
That said though you really should play the first 3. Just remember to never play MEA or it will destroy your good feelings from playing the first 3.

Is Mass Effect worth getting into now? I'm aware the first one is pushing 15 years old.
YES! 6 playthroughs of the ME trilogy with all classes. Loved it each time. The story and character interactions never get old. The graphics of ME1 are the most dated. If you play on PC there are some mods which can improve the textures. Each game is different in its own way - ME1 feels slower, but richer in story. ME2 improves on combat and character building. ME3 (despite the hate) is a delightful action romp.
Gotta disagree with Delta about playing on PC, as I played through the series on PC. Never had an issue with KB + M. Plus the mod scene adds to the longevity of the series.
On my second playthrough of Andromeda right now. Its not perfect by any means but not quite the abortion people make it out to be. Andromeda shows there was a lack of direction and poor project management. It tries to pick out all the good stuff from the original trilogy but ends up being a mish mash of concepts. Id wait to see if you like the original trilogy first before trying Andromeda.

I've been playing some indie games recently. Dead Cells, Ashen, Below and Moonlighter.
I feel Dead Cells really deserves the accolades it's getting in GOTY awards. It's fun and every single run I feel like I'm making progress.
Ashen was just released the other week. It's free on Xbox Game Pass which is how I'm playing it, but it's well worth the $60 it cost outside of Game Pass even for someone like me that hates Dark Souls. It's a Dark Souls like game, but the lighter atmosphere, more welcoming visuals, and well scripted/acted interactions make it much more bearable for me and I'm really enjoying it.
Moonlighter was released earlier this year. You play as shopkeeper by day and dungeon adventurer by night. The game would be GOTY worthy if the movement and combat mechanics felt better, but it's not a bad game.
And finally, Below. I have been looking forward to this game for years and I'm very disappointed. They showed off lots of cool looking stuff in the trailers, but the actual game is impenetrable. About 2 hours in I gave up. Glad it's free in Game Pass cause it's not worth paying for.

Darksiders 3. Played and finished, on my second playthrough now. The game was brutally hard, some likened it to Dark SoulSiders lol. That is until they did an update that made it slightly easier. The biggest frustration before was trying to heal yourself and waiting for the 3 or 4s animation to happen, whilst you get hit and die. My controller took a beating I admit. But they've made an update where it's almost instant.
So, whilst gameplay is not as good as Darksiders 2, this game continues to bring an awesome story to the table, one I hope to see continued for a 4th and 5th game. A story that flr me is as good, if not better, than the Legacy Of Kain series.

I got told off by the better half for swearing at the game, but it was more swearing at me as I killed the wrong guy in a fight were two were after me, one I wanted to keep. Then another dude rocked up outta nowhere complementing my newly upgradable knife. No I've gotta hunt down the cool two fire sword dude who left me because I killed his blood brother (accidentally too, he burned too quickly) and either see if he is going to stay Iron Wiled (and un-attainable = death) of if I can break him and get him back.

But I also went from HD to 4K so it was a huge step up and Im sure the resolution increase was a large part of it, but damn HDR made that game so much more impressive to look at. Especially the mountain ranges as the sun was rising and setting behind them. All the landscapes became super interesting.

First games I'm going to play in HDR are my beloved Forza games, but after I've checked them out in HDR do you guys have any recommendations from my list of other HDR capable games I own for me to check next?

Got my hands on Monsterboy and the Cursed Kingdom and I gotta say it's pretty good. Aside from the occasional patience testing section.
It starts off being pretty cruisy and then the boss fights juts chuck a heap of bad guys at you in a small space and it's just nuts! Completely different to what you've been up to before.
Then I got changed into a pig. It had a little section to get used to the pig and that was well designed.
Then a joining section to the next dungeon. I'm being bombed by a flying cloud (very Wonderboy) and firebreathing flowers. Ok, tricky but doable. I can't seem to attack the cloud yet and risking a jump off a spring to get him on my 3 hearts is pushing my luck.
Next section, I'm being chased by a black cloud that drops flames that travel along the ground towards you at high speed. Depending on how you go, you could have 2 of these following you along. Still occasionally dealing with enemies hidden behind foreground graphics, fire ball spitting flowers as well. Trickier, but do-able.
Oh, hit by a cloud flame. Now my controls are reversed! For quite a long time.
It just seems to ramp up the difficulty to a frustrating amount and then it'll drop off.
Next section, bits of poison, a sudden increase in my types of magic ( could've used the lightening one for them clouds earlier) and then a nother swamped by enemies boss fight.
I don't quite get it, it doesn't smoothly flow as well as it should.
Although graphics are great, sound is good, atmosphere good and feels good. It'd be a top game if the difficulty didn't yo-yo like it does.
As it is, it's a flawed top game (gameplay time, maybe about 2 hours) I just got the snake form.

A couple of bits as it has been a few months since I posted in this thread
Anthem: Was excited, but I've heard that the demo was buggy and the gameplay a bit bland. I may pick it up a few months down the line but it's gone from something I'm keen for to something I am hesitant about.
Ace Combat 7: Comes out on PC tomorrow. Is this a 24 hour cold I can feel coming on? cough
Smash Bros Ultimate: Got this for Christmas and am addicted to online play, and am actually terrible at it :( It's great for a 10-30 minute whirl in the evening.

AC7 is on my Steam wishlist. Given that it is a very basic PC port I'll be interested to see if like Nier Automata there are a bunch of fan mods released to make the game look better on high-end systems.
Also Trent you know you don't need to buy a flight stick for it. Just use an Xbox One controller if you want plug and play or if you're happy to do a little hackerie stuff connect your DS4.

This has become an academic argument because it doesn't support HOTAS controllers at launch on PC, aside from the AC7 branded hotas.
I'm holding off on buying it due to this a few other issues (can't rebind keys, no resolutions above 4K).

Bought Doom VFR the other day. Had a quick go of it. Quite a steep learning curve, as the player movement is not your usual FPS. It's like a look and teleport movement, as well as quick dodge with the d-pad. For a fast paced FPS lile Doom, it's not easy. That was with using a normal controller. I have 2 wands to try it out using those, and Hursty has picked me up a cheap AIM controller too. VR is fun.
Also grabbed a copy of Astro Bot Rescue missions. Played the single level on the VR game disc and was quite fun. So look forward to playing a full game.

So far the gameplay looks kind of fun with plety of options with your grapple and stuff. One problem that I've been suffering though is that the bad guys can be hard to see sometimes. They are black costumed dudes and often blend in with the background. The same for ammo and weapons.
Hopefully they get their act together and patch this up, but the fact of the matter it shouldn't be like this in the first place. I'll be giving Squeenix games a wider berth in the future.

So the idea is you have a super powerful console in Google's nearest datacentre. Since you can't exactly run a super long HDMI cable from their datacentre to your TV they instead turn the video of it into a YouTube stream and you play the game using the Chrome browser as if you were controlling a YouTube video.

Premature celebration;
Any job postings for Lucasfilm Games is due to Disney wanting to make sure their game scene is staffed appropriately for any Lucasfilm properties.
Disney as a whole is still focused on third-party licensed development and are still very committed in working with EA.
https://ign.com/articles/2019/03/20/disney-may-be-reviving-lucasfilm-games
I cant see Lucasarts being restarted as a fully fledged development studio without a significant amount of cash, even with Disneys deep coffers. Much cheaper to outsource nowadays. Prior to the acquisition by Thanos Disney, Lucasarts had been outsourcing their games for a long time.

To be fair, games take a long time to make, if you're committing to doing the job properly. The current exclusivity deal runs out in 2023. They could be commencing development behind the scenes in the meantime so that they can release something shortly after the rights are released.

If Lucasfilm Games makes a decent story-heavy singleplayer Star Wars game I'll be really happy, even if I have to wait another 4 years for it.

I think they'll be substantially gone within 5 years.
From a business perspective they're in a really odd and precarious position.
A substantial amount of their revenue is from second hand console games. Publishers are always looking for ways to divert consumers away from second hand games and consoles, and are increasingly favouring the model that PC games have now where a game digitally sold and tied to a specific online account (preventing a second hand sale).
Consoles themselves, however, are physical goods and need a storefront presence. All of this has led to a war of attrition between EB/Gamestop and the games industry where on the one hand the industry still relies on storefronts to sell the consoles on which their games are played, but on the other hand is trying to do everything to undercut one of the main sources of profit of the storefronts.
As far as blocking second hand sales goes, first publishers tried all those pack in codes for in game content. The content you'd unlock with the codes would tie to your account, not to the copy of the game itself, and the codes weren't reusable. Then publishers decided that they'd push that model to pack an "ONLINE PASS" with their games. The Online Pass was usually just the game's usual online mode, but again tied to a one time use code that players had to purchase if it wasn't packed into the box. If you bought a second hand copy of FIFA and wanted to play online you'd need to fork $20 over to EA. Now more and more console games are just being sold digitally.

I wonder how Zing is going for them? My local EB store was changed into an EB/Zing store a couple of years back. The Zing section started as a single row of shelves at the front of the store. Now it's at least a third of what is a rather large EB store. The EB/Zing store up in Rockhampton is over 50% Zing.
This doesn't necessarily mean Zing is making money for them, but it would appear to be doing better than game sales.
If my local EB turned into a Zing store with an EB section I'd be fine with that.

There was a game with an alien and people had to kill it in a team while another played the alien. And the horror game where a player chases other players before they can escape. So i think this game can work.

Yeah, that game was Evolve. The game was pretty good but the monetisation model meant that much of the content was locked behind expensive season passes.
I'll be sad if this is PS4 exclusive.
Normally those PlayStation trailers mention if it is an exclusive and that trailer didn't, so I don't think it is a PlayStation exclusive.

Wouldn't have been the staff member dropping it but rather a manufacturing defect. It happens from time to time on both old and new controllers alike. Just return it for an exchange.

Another quarter, another disastrous return for GameStop (owners of EB Games).
https://venturebeat.com/2019/06/05/gamestops-future-is-grim-as-its-stock-price-crumbles/
Their lifeline is to try and hang on until the next generation of consoles launch, because a lot of their revenue comes from hardware sales, through direct purchase and the foot traffic it generates (because you can't download a new console digitally so you have to physically go to the store, unlike games).
They'll die soon. Even leaving aside digital releases, their boxed games are more expensive than JB HiFi/Target/Big W, which is incredibly problematic for them as at least one of those (and sometimes all three) usually exist within the same shopping complex.

I bet Microsoft sells fewer Xboxes next generation than this generation since they are working on Windows Game Core to allow Xbox native games to run on Windows without modification. Also, Sony sounds like they might be selling the PS5 at prices higher than PS4 Pro going by the hardware in it. I wouldn't be betting on next gen to save a retail-based company.

Michael Pachter says that going by the specs he has seen for the PS5 it will cost Sony at least $800 USD to make. If it is that high of a cost to produce it will be interesting to see how heavily Sony subsidise the console. I'm not entirely sure I'd buy one if they charged $800 USD for it. I bought a PS3 at launch for $1000 from EB Games and I really didn't get $1000 worth of use out of it before it got hit by the YLOD and I had to buy a new, cheaper PS3. :/

Honestly given how stupid expensive PCIe Gen 4 SSDs are and how much AMD is charging for Zen 2 and Navi I wouldn't be at all surprised if the cost to Sony is in the $800 range. Also, the PS5 dev kit has been leaked by Sony themselves in a patent filing and it looks terrible. Just bought a Switch and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Currently only have Mario Kart and Odyssey as my own games, but borrowed Little Nightmares and Bomberman from a firend. The way the controllers feel, I wish it was easier to get soome classic SNES games on that sucker.
I heard that Ninty were allowing you to play some SNES/NES games if you had an online sunbscription, which brought up a little thought:
You can download and play them as long as you have a subscription, so if you cancel it you lose access. Kind of essentially renting the games, as you aren't buying them outright. Here in Japan, it's against the law to rent out games, ironically due to Nintendo pushing very due to piracy back in the 80s.
Oddly, I can't rent cart games for the switch/any other console, but Nintendo are allowing me to rent these old SNES/NES games.

It's not a rental, it's a subscription.
The model is more of a rental model though. You are renting the online service and the games. If you stop paying for the online service, then you lose access to the games. From my quick googling:
a subscription is usually for something tangible while renting is for the use of an object or service for a limited time. ...Taken from here (https://office-watch.com/2013/subscription-vs-rental/#targetText=The%20key%20difference%20is%20the,serv ice%20for%20a%20limited%20time.&targetText=Microsoft%20will%20keep%20calling%20it, that's%20what%20it%20really%20is.).
Usually we associate a subscription with magazines and stuff, so in the end you end up with something. Even if you stop your subscription, you have something in hand.
Renting however does not leave you with anything. Pedantic I know, but it bothers me (only enough to post random thoughts on the web though).

I'm a bit miffed that for the re-releases of early Xbox One games on PC they are not making them Xbox Play Anywhere. So I have to either rebuy games like Halo MCC and Sunset Overdrive or make sure my Xbox Live Ultimate subscription never lapses if I don't want to lose access to the PC version.
Also, I used my free month of Origin Access Basic for the recent promotion to try the PC version of Burnout Paradise Remastered. Good thing I did that and didn't buy it because it crashes even before I get to gameplay. I really hate being treated as a second class citizen on the PC.

Yeah me too. Found it a little confusing in the battles, but I suspect with a bit of practice it'll be ok. I do like the dynamic look to everything. I also like the option of changing the difficulty. When I played the PS1 as a younger dude, I gave up in the final crater making my way towards Sephi because every pleb random encounter would almost wipe my team out. I figured I needed to grind some more, but didn't want to, so gave up. So, the adjusting difficulty things appeals to my time-savingness and patience or lack thereof at times.
I've since moved from a definite no, to a possible maybe on buying the game. Its logical, but I was a little frustrated that Cloud couldn't slap some enemies with his sword. But then later on, he's suddenly jumping up and doing air combos on enemies he couldn't hit before? Would like to see more of what's on offer.
I've been informed that this one is only in Midgar right? Does that mean episode 2 will be the rest of the world? Do we know how many eps there is going to be? IIRC, Midgar in the original wasn't massive. I am curious as to how they expect to pad it out.

I got all the way until the end crater too, and sat there level grinding at the crater because it was the best place to gain exp. Once I went too far and ended up taking on Sephi, got through a few of his battles, got annihilated on one and never tried again. My brother went ahead at some point without me and finished it on me. So I too never finished it lol. If you never got Knights Of The Round summon, made it harder. Grinding to get that was a nightmare too, having to breed chocobos. I wonder how hard the Weapons will be, I remember Ruby Weapon being difficult.

I too wasn't gonna buy the game, but now I think I will. Missed the boat for any of the special edition ones. Remembering to change between characters and using them at different times instead of just using Cloud will take time to get the hang of. I've played the demo a few times and gets easier to figure stuff out.

Got around to finishing the Blade of Galadriel DLC for Shadow of War(Dor). kind of enjoyed it as a freebie. Not too sure how I'd feel if I had to pay for it. Since the nemesis system and domination gameplay aspect is downplayed and the main story involves doing quests to make allies with orcs the story is over pretty quickly.
Elatriel plays differently enough to Talion to provide enough amusement. I quite like the light aspect she had, since she doesn't have the arse kickerynes of talion. However with appropriate leveling, items and skills you can still take stuff out quite effectively.
What was cool was the way you had to take out some of the castles. Instead of assaulting it with a force, there were some stealthy mission, like sabotaging bits, poisoning others and trying to assassinate another. Would have been cool to have those options available in the main game as well I think.
Some bits that did urk (geddit) me were thing like the legendary Uruks needed to be killed a particular way. They were invulnerable to almost everything except for one type of attack, so you ended up doing the same thing over and over.
Plus being beaten by a captain, meant less need for revenge to me for some reason.
Nevertheless, i still enjoyed it

I really really want to like the Shadows series. I own both of them, but I just bounce off them every time I try to get into them. I feel like there are too many systems and mechanics bouncing off eachother that I very quickly feel like I have no idea what is going on or what I should be doing.
It doesn't help that the last time I tried to dive in I'd just finished watching the extended LOTR trilogy and then immediately got the flu and spent days having fever dreams about orcs. I never want to see an orc ever again.

ha ha ha! I found it interesting in that after playing Shadow of War, I went back to read LOTR and found it much better the second time. The first time I read it was after the last I saw the last movie in the cinema. I wonder if i enjoyed it more because I am older, or because of the Mordor games.
I always find they take some time to get going and its best to plow through a reasonable bit of story mode before experimenting with the rest. When I started 2, I spent a long time trying to level up to unlock the dominate skill again, but realised I had t progress the story. lol. I've found most of my amusement from the random orcs, either hunting down a cool looking guy, or someone with a funny personality.
I saw a video of a dude doing the online fortress attacks and he came across a fortress full of Zombie orcs. So that inspired me to try and find a bunch of "unique" orcs and have them all in the one fortress. Luckily the one I am aiming for seems to rock up often enough. I've come across 5 so far (but killed two).
I did about 120 hours on Mordor and so far have cracked 135 on War(dor).... Value for money there!

I'm quite looking forward to replaying uncharted 2/3, I tried 1 but got annoyed with the balancing bits on it where you had to use motion controls and the grenade throwing controls were especially irritating. Hopefully, those have been taken off.
Journey I bought on disc for my PS3 and thought it was a great game. Although I did finish it on my second go, but that is mainly because I came across another player. It was a magical moment. I spent a lot of time thinking, is that an AI or another person?
It was a strangely interesting experience playing through it and a lot of fun communicating with my unknown partner. I do wonder if that will still work for those who don't pay the the old PS+ and dont normally get multiplayer on PS4. Like me.

Honestly, I've given up on PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold. I don't use the multiplayer on those services as I'd rather play on PC and the free games from both companies are really stale at this point, plus I own half of them. Other players can pop into your game in Journey even if you don't have PS+ PS4 (I think they justified it as it is such a passive multiplayer mode, and not like your typical competitive matches).

Mainly because I don't think My laptop could handle them. Also I prefer gaming on the couch as I seem to spend a lot of time staring at computer monitors as it is.
Finally some games just feel better on a console to me than pc.
There's a whole myriad of reasons why use one format over another.
Been plonking away at uncharted one and I am enjoying it a lot. Although it does show its birth date somewhat. Having played the other 3 before playing this one its interesting to notice how the series has evolved.
For example, the shooting arenas are SUPER obvious in this one. Even to the point where the "Natural" environmental walls stand out somewhat. Some of the set pieces feel a little lacking, I'm sure back in 2007 (wow, 13 years ago...) the jet skiing up the rapids and on the lack with a grenade launcher was an awesome moment. After playing the others, it was OK, but could have been fleshed out a bit better.
It has made me wonder though, Nathan spends a lot of time figuring things out to be in areas first right? Like working through some stupid puzzle to get into some hidden area. Yet after walking in there for maybe five minutes having a look around... Somehow the bad guys have managed to make their way in as well. The place has been hidden for hundreds of years and the same time Drake sneakily finds the secret entrance using his bwain, the bad guys find the back door somewhere, without Drake's input.
in between Draking, I've been Shadow Warring (and Bloodstaining) too and have discovered the L3 button on my controller is busted. This goes along with the (apparently not so rare) occurrence of the L2 button causing the up input on the L stick as well. I'm gonna see if I can crack it open for a clean (hope this is the problem) or will I have to buy a new controller? Dun dun duuuuuuun!

And what a damn good game it was! I had trouble putting it down and would easily suspect that if I had no other distractions, I could happily spend a day or three playing it until I finished it. Great music, great dungeons, interesting skills gimmick, nice ability to decide which dungeon you want to tackle and when.
Also very good use of the 3d. Probably the best I've seen as it's nice a crisp and it actually helps in some puzzles (like falling between levels and trying to land on moving platforms and stuff).
Plot was kind of predictable, but that could also be down to me having played a LOT of Zelda and beginning to get the idea. Also being an intelligent person with a brain that works.
Also has a nice satisfying ending too.
Some of the gadgets you pick up I felt were a bit underused. The sand rod had minimal use outside of its main area and finding all the maimai and the resultant powering up of certain items led me to an easier game than I expected. Also I was a tad disappointed with the mount of chests I would go out of my way to find in the dungeon only to find that it just housed 100 ruppees. I had ruppees every where in this game. The main reason I ended up buying all items. Then I still ended up getting lots of ruppees.
Considering how minor my main complaints are there, I guess it's a jolly good game.

I really enjoyed The Last of Us, and am looking forward to the second game...
...but geez it looks really dank. I hope it isn?t all doom and gloom.
