I've very rarely ever had a problem with handling of items I've received in the post, from Canada, US, UK, Hong Kong, Japan...
Oh god, don't get me started on Canada! Slowest... shipping... EVER!

I think I'm gonna have to start wearing a skirt if I want to get decent customer service in this country.
I was trying to check in at Melbourne airport this morning, and the self check-in computer couldn't find my booking. So I go over to an attendant, who is currently serving someone else, and I wait until she is finished. About a minute later another attendant walks up to the customer service station and I look at her expecting her to ask if I needed any help... but she walks right past me and asks a lady at one of the check-in computers if she needed help (because she was looking a bit confused).
Then when she was done with that lady, she walks right past me again, looking at me looking at her, and doesn't say anything as she went over to the bag-drop area. Half a minute later, she walks back and does the same thing - walks past me looking at her, and attends to the same lady at the computer, to see if she had managed to complete her check-in.
Walking back past me for the fourth time, looking at me looking at her, she finally asks if I need any help, and I say with an impatient "well yeah".
At that time, the first lady was finally finished with her person, and said that she'd take care of me.
So even though I was at the "help desk" area, I was ignored in favour of a lost looking LADY who didn't even know how to seek help anyway.
Incidentally, the reason why the booking couldn't be found is that you can't check in before a certain amount of hours before your flight, in case you have baggage (which they can only hold for a certain amount of time). You'd think that with all the warnings about when you need to be checked-in by, they'd mention how early is too early.
I was only wanting to be at the airport early so that I could spend several hours in the Business Class lounge to work on my computer and fill up on their food.
I was willing to wait a couple hours before check-in would be open for my flight, but the attendant offered to put me on an earlier flight. I figured that it could be good to get home earlier, but booked this flight because it was the cheapest one available... and yet, she was able to put me on an earlier flight without it costing any extra.
Only problem now is that it is a 4pm flight instead of 7pm, and the other main reason I wanted the Business Class flight (other than the free internet and all-you-can-eat lounge) is to have a classy meal on the plane.... now I was thinking that the flight was too early for a full dinner service, which was what I was looking forward to most.
Just to make things worse, when the attendant handed me the ticket of my new flight, she then tells me that since the flight transfer was done so late, there's a good chance that I won't get a meal at all (I guess they cater/cook the meals based on the numbers booked at the time they prepare the meals offsite).
The one time I can afford to splash out on a business class flight (previous BC flights were free with points), and I get bad customer service, the possibility of just an economy class meal on the flight, and I end up biting hard on a tooth-sized bone in a meatball in the Business Class Lounge.
Yeah, definitely gonna stick with using my points on Business Class flights in future. For my bad luck, it just isn't worth the risk spending so much more, to end up with Economy Class Standards. At least if this had happened with a Points flight, I wouldn't have cared because it was all free anyway.

Speaking of airports and flights..... I went up to the Gold Coast a fortnight ago with Virgin, got there in time, checked in, boarded the plane, all good. We arrived at the Gold Coast at 1.30 pm (GC time) but were unable to land because of poor weather and visibility and the fact that there were 6 planes before us waiting to land. We were told over the speaker that we would be circling the airport until the 6 planes before us landed. Two hours later, we still haven't landed and are then told that the 6 planes before us have been diverted to Brisbane airport but becuase all flights to Coolangatta have now been diverted, Brisbane is unable to accomodate our flight and that we would be returning to Sydney. We return to Sydney and by this time, it is 5.30 pm Sydney time and we are then notified that all flights into Coolangatta are cancelled and that the only way we are getting to the Gold Coast is either wait for the first flight the following morning or catch a late flight tonight to Brisbane and then get on board a bus which will transport us to Coolangatta (paid for by Virgin). However, Virgin did go some way to softening our experience by giving us $100 worth of food vouchers which we could use in the food court and on board the plane (we had $50 leftover on the flight home and were ordering everything we could to use up the vouchers!!) So after calling the car rental company to have our rental car changed to be picked up at Brisbane, we boarded the last flight to Brisbane, which departed at 10.00 pm. We got to Brisbane at 11.00 pm local time, picked up the car, and got to the GC just after midnight. Totally knackered, we all went to bed by 1am, only to be woken up at 5.30 am because some dickhead had lit up a smoke in their room and set off all the fire alarms. Great start to the week-long holiday!!

Not really a vent but rather a post of sadness, sadness that a day or so ago a life extinguished that in-part had an impact on my early teen years. :(
Sadly Bill Moody (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Bearer), better known as WWF/E's Paul Bearer passed away of causes not yet publicly released; Paul Bearer was the 'Mortician by Trade' Manager of The Undertaker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Undertaker) (the Wrestler of whom is my favourite, having a very marked affect on me as a Teenager) and was probably the most successful & unique manager in the business. :(
R.I.P. Paul Bearer; thank you for the entertainment, you'll never be forgotten... "Ohhh YEEESSSS!!!"

Well, a while ago, on December 22nd, 2012 in fact, I headed up to Northlands TRU, as TRU central office said they had 2 Masterpiece Optimus Primes left.
We drive a while, then as soon as we get there, they say that they haven't got them yet.
After some bickering, we managed to get them to sell it to us for $120 when it came in, as they would call us. They said it would hopefully be here by Christmas/Boxing Day.
It didn't, of course. :(
We called every week or so and they still never got it in.
It's been a bit more than 2 months now and I'm still without a Prime, which will 99% in my mind will never come in.
That's not the part I'm angry about though.
They never notified us that it's not coming in.
I don't know for sure, but I find that pretty rude. We called a few days ago and they act like nothing was wrong and said it's not in yet, like it hasn't been 2 months.
I am really hating Northland TRU. The manager was nice and all, but it's just sour to not get it and have them not tell me AT ALL.:(
This is not putting them in a great place in my mind and I'll go off my rocket if the same thing happens with Soundwave.:(

Bought a new laptop, had problems with it shutting down unexpectedly like the power just cut off (it wasn't the power), brought it to a service center for it to be repaired. Turns out it was the motherboard and they replaced it. I come home, turn it on, for some reason I suspected something was wrong (maybe it was how the computer was much slower than before), checked the specs and... it only has 2GB RAM?!?!? The laptop is supposed to have 4GB (and it did). What the...? Time to go back to the service center on Monday...

this Saturday just gone, we got hit from behind when avoiding running into an impatient jerk cutting into flowing traffic from a standstill. The lady that ran into us had to go to hospital, our car is at the smash repairers, I haven't heard back from the cops yet with an incident number, I just called and the number rang out, cant progress insurance/claim/repair without an incident number. renting a car with the hope that the expense is covered by the other drivers insurance.
All rather frustrating.:mad: and yes, the jerk that caused the accident got away scott free, I tried but didn't get the number plate in time.

I'm one of those people who prefer to have objects physically in my hand, which is why I have avoided Steam in the past.
But last night one of my sons told me Fall of Cybertron and its expansion packs were on sale, so I weakened and joined Steam.
Purchasing was easy, then it said I had to download Steam. Fine, did that and a Steam shortcut appears on my desktop.
Double click.. "checking for available updates". After a while, "extracting package" and the window closes.
Hunky-dory, so I click on the shortcut again. And again, checking for updates.
Finished again, click again, checking and updating AGAIN!!!
And that's all it's been doing all night and morning!?!?!
Am I missing something or have I just lost my money?
I'm going to put this in the comuting/game console thread too. Any helpful advice would be welcome.

Sometime you have to authorize the program to write to the drive ,it usually because it on c drive ... do you have an antivirus on? try right clicking the icon and run as admin . Sometime they missing a small file that they don't d/l automatically and you can check that on their forums for the missing file.
But don't lose faith in steam...it a bitch to have to update all the time and in aus our internet slow but it the way game are heading , you think that was annoying...trying playing on a console that you have to update to play!! or have a dvd game disc but have to d/l 6GB to install the game!(looking at you starcraft2-heart of the swarm@!)

Did you actually install the game? It sounds like you're just updating the Steam client itself. In Steam you go to your games library and FoC should be on the left side. Click on it to highlight it and press the 'install' button to the right.

I can't even open Steam. I haven't even got to my games library yet, just this frikkin updating message.
Anyway I've done some poking around - this seems to be a common issue - and found several solutions that worked for other people, so I'll give it a go tonight.
If it doesn't work, it's back to physical copies of games for me.
Origin was much easier when I bought some DLC.

I'd check how much drive space you have where you are installing steam. I've had update issues over the last week and found that I'd filled up that drive to within a few megs of completely full. Once I cleared out some stuff (a couple older games) it worked fine.
You'll want to install steam in a place where you have at least 50 GB up your sleeves, it's amazingly easy to fill up space with a steam sale. my games partition is 150GB (not far from full) and half of my steam games aren't even installed. (watch out for those steam sales :D:rolleyes:)

I got it working: had a list of solutions, starting with "turn it off and start again" up to reinstalling stuff. Luckily the second solution - "run as administrator" - got Steam working.... but then I had to spend most of the night waiting for the game to download.
When I got up this morning it was ready to roll... but I had to go to work!!!
I still prefer having the game in hand, though.

It did suck. Luckily the lens wasn't scratched, but took it in to get a clean anyway. Looking at $166 just to get a clean out. If any of the gears are stripped... The guy said about $250 or so for a new lens assembly. Might as well go and buy the next level camera up for that price!

To be honest I hate it when my entertainment has to explicitly dot every i and cross every t. Sometimes, loose threads, plot holes and continuity gaffs can lead to good stories.
I hate it so much!
And then people seem to think that their lives should wrap up neatly like some TV programme. Gah, horrible.

They are usually very slow - Canadian post is a fickle beast.
From what I understand they print to order, so they don't have most labels on hand. Also, I've noticed that they are heaps slower when an order coincides with a big release of new labels (every 6-8 weeks), as they get a big influx of new orders. My orders have taken as little as 2 weeks and as much as 6 or 7, so hopefully they will be coming to you soon.

I hear ya. That was my major gripe with the Hunger Games movie - they rammed each plot point and theme home so hard, like the audience is filled with cretins and isn't capable of understanding subtlety or nuance.

Climbing between apartment balconies is easier in Japan cos they're so small and close together. I had a really tall neighbour (over 190cm) who lived next door to me, and he'd sometimes try to scare the crap out of me by climbing over to my balcony and knocking on the back sliding door! ;) I did try climbing over to his place once or twice, but at my diminutive 1.7m frame I wasn't game to do it too many times. :p

Anytime Fitness has the 'bright' idea of using Channel V on its TVs at its gyms and churning out mainstream chart music at high volumes - which all of it is either pop / new-age r'n'b / soft slow indie music. No intense workout music. Was working out this morning and that new Carly Rae Jepsen song came on, as soon as I heard it I cranked up my iPhone earphones to MAX with 'No Easy Way' Out by Robert Tepper. Didn't care if I couldn't hear anything else.

What is BBTS doing about it?
Fortunately, the parcel was pending delivery from their warehouse, so BBTS was able to correct the shipping address on it. The representative I emailed was quite apologetic about it since that was the 2nd issue I had with that Pile of Loot. The 1st issue was that they didn't have two Collector grade items (a carded Kubrick R2-D2 and a TRU Animated Arcee) which was in my POL even though I pre-ordered them ages ago.

So, how did BBTS respond? My understanding is that the 'Shipping Address' on the My Account page may not be the one on your viewable order if the order pre-exists the change of shipping address.

If they aren't able to make a permanent automatic remedy, then perhaps you should email them each following time you are going to ship your loot, or create a new account from scratch (since there are no benefits with one longstanding continuous account).
I had one issue with the last time I tried to ship (one item went missing during their warehouse move) and ended up cancelling the shipment, so I'm definitely going to get them to verify my loot before shipping.

Haven't broached it yet, am going to ship my POL once it's a bit bigger - awaiting some pre-ordered items first. I'll try and send messages via PayPal to make sure it goes to the correct address.
It may not be too much of an issue though, as I have a mail re-direct from the old address anyway.
Glad it's getting sorted for you though! A big chunk of change to lose.

I arrived home from out of the country on Wednesday last week, on the way into my driveway (which is about 200m long so I don/t expect the postie to go down it, theres also a 1.8m height limit on the driveway so he probably can't) I got a call from the parcel contractor, letting me know that they had tried to deliver the parcel the day before, obviously couldn't, but they wanted to arrange a time when I would be home to recieve it because the post office had refused to recieve it due to it's size. I arranged to be home between 2 and 4, which was a little awkward but OK. And btw, next time I'm at my local PO I should complain about their shoddy customer service...
in the morning I went to the post office to pick up another parcel and there were a total of 3 parcels waiting for me, one of which was the one I was supposed to be waiting at home for.
the nice lady at the PO said that the two large ones, one of which I didn't even have a card for, had been there since the 5th and 8th respectively and it was the 11th.
so I have no idea what the contractor had been talking about, he never did show up between 2 and 4 and called from a blocked number so I could never call him back. all a little too wierd for me.

Hasbro keeps using cheaper and cheaper factories... and since most regular kids probably wouldn't notice or care if a short-lived toy in their possession has two of the same hands or feet, Hasbro wouldn't really care if the small portion of dedicated collectors come across a defect. They know that we keep collecting the toys, and even if we were able to return them to a retailer (as most of us import now to save money or get the toys we missed), it becomes the retailer's problem, not Hasbro's.
This is why Hasbro is foolish to take on a quality company like Lego, as Lego is just way out of their league.

+1. :) It just is frustrating, that there QC is so bad and I know that using cheap factories is a way of keeping costs low for a bigger profit but do they realise that there brand is suffering for cheap quality. It's like buying a new car with one tyre missing. Has there been generally more QC issues with toys that are packaged in robot mode as opposed to alt mode?
I'd imagine that having to transform the actual toy to its end purpose would require one extra step, and make it pretty hard to ignore an issue like swapped limbs.

Now that you mention it, most my TF that have incorrect parts were packaged in robot mode. But IIRC, wasn't MP Lambor packaged in alt mode? There were quite a few QC issues i read about when he first came out. Perhaps some incorrect parts are able to slip through as a result of transformation, ie fists that fold in etc like my reissue Divebomb.

No any sort of plastic can turn yellow if it's susceptible to it. It is however more noticeably yellow in whites but there are distinct color changes in colored plastic too like them becoming darker or even green.

I've been reminded why I don't like eBay auctions. I put bids on about 20 TF comics last night, individual postage was high but in bulk the combined postage would be a good deal.
Woke up to find that I'd been outbid and lost all of the auction, but one. So now I've got one comic with high postage. I'd have rather been outbid on everything then be left with only one purchase!
Going to stick with trusty "Buy it now".

It's funny. Every place I have worked has automated pay systems and people within those companies always complain about being paid incorrectly. But I have NEVER had a single problem.
Very strange.
And now for my venting session:

Submerged my G1 Shockwave barrel and screws in H202 for a couple of days. I removed the inner clear purple plastic parts to prevent damage.
Good news! The barrel has regained it's original color (for now at least) and the screws had their rust cleaned and looks like they have no structural damage, they look nearly new. I assembled it all together and it now seems fine.
Good thing as I was very hesitant to buy from Ebay and the only person with a sure to be legit barrel was charging something like $42 on shipping alone.

Well I had a sit down with the admin manager at work about my incorrect pay last week when I was on annual leave. Turns out that even though I had put through the adjusted holidays early march payroll's automated system screwed that up. Not only that I wasn't even in the system for the pay period during my holidays!
When I raised the pay issue with my manager last Wednesday because I personally visited work over the matter. She got customer service to check my holidays were in the system and they discovered the same thing and did NOTHING ABOUT IT.
So to the admin manager's credit he emailed payroll in hopes of getting things fixed asap but I don't think it's going to happen and he did offer to give me a loan out of petty cash but I said I'd already borrowed money from my folks.
So Trent I hope you never have problems with your employer's payroll system because it is a pain.

Oh terrific. I've lost all names and numbers from my iPhone's contact list. Seems to be happening to a lot of people looking at the apple discussion boards. May be caused by the crappy update to the Facebook app update.
And I can't see how to get them back without doing a full restore from my last backup, which I'm sure will force my phone to get the iOS6 update which I've been holding off on. Unless there's some way to restore from a backup without resetting the entire phone.
Edit: Trying a restore. What genius hid "restore from backup" under a right click on the navigation?
Edit: Worked. Lost a few days worth of text messages, but got names and numbers back.

No, Gouki's gripe is with comics fandom.
Comics has a horrible track record with representation of minorities - and in real life too, so few black or female writers in the industry - because the bulk of the comics are by white males. Recently there was a comics panel about Marvel comics and a fan brought up that in Age of Ultron Luke Cage was killed off panel and there was a lot of awkward jokes from the Marvel panelists because they didn't know how to address this problem.
Yet, Dan Slott kills off Peter Parker and the Internet breaks from the fan rage!

And how exactly is this fandom's fault? I generally don't buy comics of the 'Big 2', and avoid books with the kind of stereotypes you mention. But I, as part of comic fandom in general, am to blame for these issues?
Taking it a bit further, Bay's three TF films had a fair amount of racism and mysoginy, am I, as a part of Transformer fandom (as well as a fan of films) to blame?
I'm just not sure how a blanket hatred of fandom is warranted.

Nope society has plenty of problems, but I see comics, places where imagination is king... sticking staunchly to views that are extremely outdated as extremely troubling. Why is it something that speaks so to the disenfranchised so rigid in it's views?
Costumes design is a massive thing, especially for women. It is actually depressing to read how people react to things like Psylocke changing costume, that even, and where cries of "there is equal sexualisation between men and women!" rum rampant as the latest super heroine breaks her spine on the cover. But yeah, these have been a part of comics for so long. Sure. Okay. But because of that there is now a massive push to not change and make sure the straight, white male stays comfortable which is keeping it shrinking. And the creators are trying (sometimes in frustrating hamfisted ways), but they are trying and that's whats weird. The publishers seem to be changing but the fandom is resisting. It's very sad.
Basically: If your comics inspire the "Hawkeye Initiative" you're doing it wrong. Comic fans = great. Comics fandom = Severe problems that are going to prevent industry growth.
(I should probably clarify that I just view fandom as the "total fanbase" including all the crazies, whereas the "fans" are the people I actually read their stuff, would speak to and consider not... troubling.)

I wouldn't classify myself as belonging to the comic fandom. The ONLY comics I read are Transformers comics, the last of which I read was Police Action. When it came out. So yeah I know nothing about what happens in comics or the associated discussions. But what you described above are all issues that western society deal with every day.
Disproportionate sexualization of women? Have you watched a Micheal Bay movie lately?
Resistance to change/sticking to outdated views? Gay marriage anyone?
Denial of obvious issues because fixing them is too hard/makes people uncomfortable? Just how long has Climate change taken to get any traction at all in politics?
Any gripe you can come up with about the comic fandom (or any fandom for that matter) will almost certainly have a direct correlation to the society in which it is based.

I think Gouki makes a good point. It's what we call education calls the "hidden curriculum" in literature; i.e. potentially reinforcing certain prejudices, often without the author's intent.
Let's stick with Transformers for example. Is being good or evil a "genetic" thing with Transformers, or is it - as ROTF Jetfire said - "an intensely personal choice"? Because the former makes the Transformers' conflict look like a racial one. That somehow the Autobots are a heroic 'race' of robots, 'genetically' predispositioned to be good, and the Decepticons are the opposite. This is why I'm not a big fan of the "blue eye/red eye" thing in the cartoon and live action films, because it gives the Transformers a sort of robotic physical racial trait... almost like Hitler's idea of the blue-eyed Aryan. I much prefer the original toy line, comics and most other media where eye colour just varied randomly irrespective of faction.
Jetfire is an interesting character because he's demonstrated that being good/evil is a personal choice across different continuities. In the G1 comics, G1 cartoon and live action films he started off as a Decepticon but later became an Autobot (well, maybe not as much in the G1 comics since he was a mindless drone as a Decepticon :p). I also like characters who walk along the line of being good or evil - characters who are morally ambiguous, like Thundercracker, Grimlock, Carnivac, Octane, Blitzwing etc. The Autobot scientist Flame was one of the first who showed us that an Autobot could be evil, and in the recent IDW comics we see that the ancient Autobots were absolutely cruel, and it was their very own brutal oppression that gave birth to the Decepticons in the first place.
As for humans... that's an interesting take with Transformers too. In G1, both Marvel and Sunbow decided to make the protagonists male, which is understandable considering that Transformers is a toy line primarily marketed at boys - they wanted a young male character for the audience to relate with. But they also decided to make him Caucasian. However, they did do some things to break away from typical stereotypes, such as:
+ Giving the protagonist a non-Anglo surname, "Witwicky", which is more Polish/Ukrainian in origin.
+ They intentionally avoided giving them Judeo-Christian given names, or given names that could be attached to any religion or culture. Buster, Spike, Sparkplug... although Sparkplug's name was revealed to be a nickname, and his actual name was William Irving. And of course, they totally ditched this after Season 2 with the introduction of Daniel Witwicky, a very Judeo-Christian name indeed! Although Season 3 saw the Transformers' adventures spanning across the galaxy, so they were often seen with a myriad of other intelligent alien life forms giving the series a sort of xeno-diversity and not having everything be so "Terran-centric." Although everyone spoke English, surprisingly ('cept Kremzeek!). Oh yeah, there was also Abdul Fakkadi who was such a blatant negative Arab stereotype that it elicited Casey Kasem (himself of Middle Eastern heritage) to quit Transformers. :(
+ Several minor or secondary characters were shown to be other members of minorities or female, such as Walter Barnett, Charlie Fong, Chip Chase, Carly, Ali, Dr. Fujiyama (even if it's a fake Japanese name ), Hassan (aka Prince Jamal), Dr. Yoshikawa, Lisa (member of the Autobot-human resistance on alternate Earth), Cecilia Santiago, Samuel Wainwright, Richard Vasquez etc. - so we did get a fair amount of diversity in G1. :)
+ In the G1 comics, the Nebulans were shown to be just like humans. And almost all of them were white (and Galen looks like Prince Valiant! :D), with the sole exceptions of Brisko and Lug (and Lug was only retconned as being black in post-G1 continuity (which works because we never saw him outside of his armour in G1)). The G1 cartoon was actually better in this regard by portraying the Nebulans as being green skinned with different skin lines than humans. They just gotta keep their women away from James T. Kirk. :p And for some odd reason, the totally crippled Hive, especially Zarak, were incredibly BUFF!
+ Super God Masterforce showed a range of ethnicities with their human cast. You had...
Ginrai = Japanese (immigrated to US)
Lightfoot = English background, but raised in Canada
Ranger = Canadian
Road King = British
Cab = Karinese, a fictional nationality, but geographically located near the Visayan Islands, so he's probably close to being Filipino. Although arguably with that "savage native" stereotype
Minerva = French-Japanese (although she would only have French citizenship, as the Japanese govt doesn't offer dual citizenship to people who are 'only' maternally Japanese)
Shuuta Gou (Go-Shooter) = Japanese
Bullhorn = Mexican
Cancer = Chinese (though the scene where he returns to China shows a lot of cheesy stereotypes :p)
Wilder = presumably American (or at very least he spent much of his formative years living in the US where he was a member of a motorcycle gang)
No idea what ethnicities the Decepticon Godmasters are meant to be... don't think the show gives any clues whatsoever.
+ In Transformers Victory Star Sabre's adopted son, Jean Minakaze, is half Japanese half French; unlike Minerva, IRL Jean would be entitled to Japanese dual citizenship since he is paternally Japanese. Ya know... if he were actually a real person. :p Deathzaras' adopted human son Soron Kitakaze is also presumably half Japanese on his father's side too... no idea what ethnicity his mother was. Although Deathzaras made Soron into a cyborg, so I guess he's "...more machine now than man. Twisted and evil." ;)
+ The human (near-human?) protagonist Kain (say "Kaah-Een", not "cane") isn't even from Earth but from a planet called Feminia. The other human (from Earth) is Akira, who official sources state is a boy, but fans have been long divided over the issue because he's often drawn and portrayed like a girl... and Akira can be a girl or boy's name, it depends on which Kanji it's written in (kinda like how some English names can be boy or girl depending on spelling). The problem is that Akira's name has only _ever_ been written in Katakana in official material! Mmm... androgynous fresh...
+ Neo-Knights member and super powered mutant Hector Dialonzo (aka Dynamo) is Mexican.
+ In the G2 comics the Autobots initially interacted with G.I. Joe, who have always been a diverse team of humans.
+ In Beast Wars the only humans we saw were early hominids (pre-homo sapien). Yabba Dabba Doo.
+ Unicron Trilogy: Alexis Thi Dang & Carlos Lopez (even if he is a cheesy Hispanic stereotype )
+ Animated: Isaac Sumdac is an Indian-American. Sari is Indian-Cybertronian... complicated! :D
+ Movieverse: haw haw haw... stereotypes ahoy! Lotsa black stereotypes in the 1st movie (Bobby Bolivia, Glen Whitmann) w/ the Hispanic stereotype in Jorge Figueroa. 2nd movie gave us more Hispanic cheesiness with Leo "I haz kitty calendarz and got tasered in da nuts!" Spitz. DotM gave us the random weird geeky Asian dude w/ Jerry Wang (a Chinese character played by an actor of Korean ancestry... 'kay).
+ TF Prime: I think Prime's been pretty good with showing diversity. Agent Fowler's African American, Raf is Hispanic and Miko is Japanese (and as stupidly annoying as she is, it's not due to any cheesy racial stereotypes (in fact, apparently she's a popular character in Japan )). I like how Raf's mother speaks with a Hispanic accent, showing some level of linguistic diversity too. I'd love to see an episode where Raf and his mother briefly speak to each other in Spanish, or if Miko ever communicated with her family in Japan in Japanese etc.
I think we're also seeing greater diversity in the cast too. In G1 almost all the voice actors were Caucasian men (Semitic Casey Kasem and Leonard Nimoy stand out as exceptions). In TF Animated Bumblebee was voiced by Bumper Robinson, an African-American. In TF Prime we have Kevin Michael Richardson (Bulkhead) who is African-American, George Takei (Alpha Trion) who's of Japanese heritage, Dwayne Johnson (Cliffjumper) who is of African and Samoan heritage, Gina Torres (Airachnid) who is of Cuban heritage, and Sumalee Montano (Arcee) who is of Thai and Filipino heritage. :) And voice acting is one field where, IMO, we should see a wide range of diversity -- as Neil Kaplan (RiD Optimus Prime) often says, the beauty of voice acting is that it's far less discriminating than live screen acting because it doesn't matter what you look like, you just have to sound like the character that the producers want. :D I bet most people are surprised when they find out that Elmo on Sesame Street's voiced by a black man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Clash). ;)

I usually work late nights (4PM-Midnight or even later) and got asked yesterday to work an early shift on this Friday (530AM-130PM). It just so happens to be that the people that usually work mornings aren't available then and that I conveniently do have the skills to do what is done in the mornings from my previous store.
I stupidly said yes because this was a last minute emergency, but I'm going to make it very clear to the grocery manager (who isn't my boss but has offered me this shift because of his screw-up of not having someone else back it up) that I'm only doing this shift once because working inconsistent hours really screws up my body. And I prefer to work during the night because I'm much more effective worker at night than I am during the day. Always have been.
I'm doing them this favour once and that's it. I just saved this grocery manager's arse and now he owes me. If he tries to get me to work mornings again I will flat out refuse them. And it's not a case of my workplace promising me hours by making me work in other departments, I'm one of the best night workers and am highly sought after in that department and can get all my hours from them.
May sound harsh but I refuse to be stepped on over by other people especially by those that made colossal screw-ups. He should have had someone else back up this shift and not come running to me just because I convenientely had prior skills.

Second vent here:
Why is it that despite the fact that I managed to find the tag for similar toys (IE other marvel legends figs) the member of staff who went to look for them couldn't find them.... It's not that hard people. I had to wait 10 minutes while he looked, couldn't find and then had to check on the computer anyway. Why couldn't he just check the computer in the first place??
This is after I had to climb the shelves to find the bloody thing since the peg was full of Wolverine. Good thing their shelves are very solid ;)
On the plus side, if the figure I wanted was on the peg, someone else would have probably taken him anyway. :p

I avoided everything Game of Thrones until I was up to date with the latest episode. So glad I did! Shock value is a huge part of that last one.Sadly, that's no longer an option for me, at least as far as one specific character goes. And a whole bunch of others who I don't yet know about.
The really annoying bit is I've been holding off on reading the books until I've seen the corresponding episodes, just because it's so rare for me to find a TV series I actually really enjoy and I don't want to ruin the experience. I've been avoiding GoT stuff as much as is possible, but as of a few days ago it's freaking everywhere and of course it's only a matter of time until some thoughtless (insert epithet of your choice here) goes and spoils it in specific detail. Like, literally, "I can't believe (character name) dies!!!"

I can certainly understand it's unavoidable. All day today on the street and shopping center I have heard people talk about the last episode openly with no reservations. I feel very glad I watched it yesterday otherwise I would also have been spoiled.

The GOT stuff has been entertaining to watch.
So many tweets from people blaming everyone from a 'desperate HBO ratings stunt' to Deniboff and Weiss 'desperate' to keep viewers shocked after 'failing' to do so in season 2.
I want to scream at those people 'It happened in the books the show is based on , as is clearly stated in the credits for every bloody episode.
It also happened 13 years ago!!'
*Well, mostly happened. Some stuff is different. The show version is much 'cleaner'. Which makes sense, as it's a chance for Martin for retroactively change things that he feels didn't eventuate as well as he'd liked in the books (along with changes necessary for the different medium), and I felt this cleaned up one such issue really nicely.

Oh come on... 90USc is still pretty damn good for the AUD!! All this complaint about the AUD "plummeting" is an overreaction - IMHO anything at 80USc or above for the AUD is pretty darn good. Cos even with all their financial woes, the US economy still massively dwarfs the Australian economy, and the AUD has been overvalued for the 3 years. The Australian dollar has been artificially overvalued due to what CommSec's chief economist Craig James calls the "Steve Bradbury effect." (http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/business/sa-business-journal/how-low-can-the-australian-dollar-slide/story-e6fredel-1226652488378) ;) We ALL knew that the AUD would have to start dropping at some stage. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the AUD is still holding out pretty strong and is declining steadily; as I said, 90USc is still a pretty good price for the AUD.
Remember what it was like in 2000 when the AUD dropped to about 40-something USc? Now that sucked! :( I made toys like Brave Maximus a lot more expensive; thankfully the Korean version came out later when the AUD had picked up to 70-something USc. Heck, 6 years ago I was massively stoked when the AUD climbed to 80-something USc and being extremely stoked about it (made MP Megatron cheaper than initially expected ;))! :D Seriously... doesn't anyone remember how exciting it was seeing the AUD climb to 80USc? Then there was the GFC which saw the AUD drop massively (at the time that Encore Omega Supreme, Metroplex and Gadep came out :().
AMP Capital's Shane Oliver predicts that the AUD will drop to the mid to high 80USc range. That's still bloody good! Okay sure, from an overseas buying and travelling POV, I can totally understand that a stronger AUD is better. I'm going overseas later this year too. But objectively speaking from an economic POV, the AUD is still doing jolly well! (not to mention that a decline in the AUD is good for Australian exports).

pretty much bed ridden with twisty spine. started being bad on friday, but nagging at me for weeks on n off before that. today i can at least roll side to side, but i can't stand to walk or be on foot rather for more than bout 5 meters. i died trying to escape to the bathroom, but had better luck about 4 hours later when i dunno, something lined up possibly. during this time i managed to scab the laptop from its magaical resting place . so here it is now, i have no table to rest it on but me. its kinda heavy. which we all know is a n illusion. On friday i made fingers for depthcharge. but they are currently on the floor in the work space which i'm not gonna bend down for in any direction. To go with this i have tingleing in my right knee, but only left thigh at various times. i can sit but it hurts, so it looks like a good 3 days of lieing down. unfortunaty its pretty much day two and things haven't improved much, but being able to roll around is a good thing. it would be better if it was just all numb, but i can feel every misfire of command code and thats no fun.

Bed rest for most of the days. I'm bit more moveable now. Standing or sitting longer too. But its not really my bsck. It's more on the left. Like an over pulled muscle or something. Lieing flat is the best. Its not as tense. But it will still send lightnigng pain if i turn sometimes. Its like the 2nd time this year i've managed to over do it. Though i wouldn't know what i did. I have a 24hr delay in pain reactions .... yay. I'll have to shed a few kg. I think the weight on the front is really pulling things outta place. So far my bed rest excitement has allowed meto complete a set of tyranid legs. Feet, shins n thighs. Construction wise. I'm tackling arms n joints today. You shouldn't be doing anything more strenuous than holding a book.

I injured my tailbone and couldn't sit or laydown properly for 5 odd months, it tingled, pain and just general discomfort. Went to the doctors after the 5 months and he said it wasn't broken luckily but it was crap trying to sit or sleep.

Well it goes 'clicky clicky'. Anyhow its a few different things that come together at the same time. Yesterday it was one part while today its another. Swaps between side muscle n lower back. Missing a part. Basicky you can 'roll' parts around in the tailboneish area. It can click into or out of place. Its not swolen or anthing but you can move 'fat' so i'm guessing arround it to. As i have a few layers now! Sitting is mixed results depending on hardness of surface. But lyeing down helps when pain strikes. If it was truly my back i would not be able to curl which i can do without trouble. Its bending the other way which effects standing n walking. It could be a hip joint issue as for one day i was completely standing slanted everytime. Having favoured to put weight on right side. But hey bright side. Tyranids coming along fine. Now with tail.... almost. And i've reworked some Depthcharge bits. I should look younger now. I've had lots of beauty sleep. Still haven't watched fergully.

I barely noticed the tailbone (other than when sitting, as I had to use a ring cushion for 6 months, which was annoying). It didn't really hurt.
It's likely that any pain from that got drowned out by the pain from the wedge fractures though. They really hurt, and I still get residual pain from them. Doc says I can expect that for up to a further 12 months.

The hardcovers put Drift just before AHM, but Metalhawk's appearance as an Autobot warrior does suggest it's much earlier. (or that's not actually Metalhawk)
The wiki's Timeline http://tfwiki.net/wiki/IDW_timeline would place it after Spotlight Shockwave and before anything set on modern earth. This would match up with Sunstreaker appearing in that opening off-world battle too.

I personally see Drift happening sometime after Megatron Origins but before most other stuff, because Dai Atlas is there... and he was killed by Shockwave shortly after he underwent empurata and shadowplay. And as you said, Metalhawk was there too.
It's just a nightmare to try to sort out (which is why I've never tried to do it before, plus it was just easier to sort them in publication order as I collect them, but then it kinda feels disjointed when you go back to read them again). Gah.

It's not too tough, there's just a few stories, like Drift, where the dates are vague.
Dai Atlas left Cybertron during Monstrosity, which would be after Shockwave turned on him (Shockwave didn't actually kill him, by blasting him he spared Atlas the fate of being with, and dying with, the rest of the senate).

It IS panel beaters saying this though. I first heard this on the radio yesterday. Their was a protest rally in Canberra that is against the cull. And one of the represented groups in this protest was a bunch of panel beaters saying they were representing those in the wider area. So this was no beat up (so to speak) by a journalist. This was a group of people out protesting for their right to make money off the misfortune and injury of others.

On the way home I was driving down a dark narrow road - one lane each way. A P plater behind me goes on the wrong side of the road and revs hard to speed past and cut me off... but the car in front of him was driving at the exact speed limit same as me. So he really didn't gain any headway, unless it was SUPER important for him to gain ONE extra car length. Later he was turning right at a roundabout while I turned left. I extended my arm out of my window and waved my pinky at him. ;)

Hmmmm, so i was taking my girlfriend to work this morning, got out to the car, to my surprise the boot was open!!!! well i must have popped it on the way in last night i thought, so i closed it. Then my girlfriend says "my doors unlocked, did you already unlock the car?"
Maybe i hadnt locked it last night i thought, got in to find all my glove box stuff thrown from one end of the car to the other. I DEFINATELY DIDNT DO THAT.
My subwoofer and amplifier, custom enclosure, cd wallet, 3 usb sticks and a phone charger were taken in the the wee hours of the morning.
Scum buckets have to take what others earn. I worked hard for those material goods, and i am dissapointed they are gone, not angry (i have no where constructive to aim my anger).
I am also sure that karma will sucker punch them in the balls.

I see that all the time (several times a week), the frustration for me is the unneccesary risk that sort of action creates for everyone else on the road.
A few months ago I had to brake to avoid a collision with an idiot that squesed into moving traffic rather than wait for a break in traffic at a light change. I was run up the back of and the car spent 8 weeks in the shop, I had to get physio for whiplash all because I stopped to avoid an accident.
the middle aged woman who ran into me, probably had her car written off and was also charged with Negligent driving (her reaction time and her cars, was just too slow) and the jerk that caused it, just dissapeared into traffic.

Walked around the front of my car and noticed a bit of a scuff on the bumper.
Turns out it is more than a scuff.
There is a black mark from about 10cm ffrom the license plate, that points the way to a series of larger scuff on the corner, to the point where the plastic has buckled on the bumper and cracked.
Some ass-hat has gone and probably cocked up their corner taking, scraped my car and kept on going, rubbong the crap outta my bumper. FFS. Of course they just pissed off. Must have happened yesterday while I was at work.
My car is looking so beaten up ATM coz stupid people who can't drive keep on opening their doors into it and scuffing the bumpers. It makes me so mad, I understand why gunmen go nuts crazy in the US.

That's what they were selling for before they came out here. I think the international market on these is pretty high at the moment.

It annoys me most when you see figures that are currently on store shelves being listed on eBay, but with substantially inflated prices...
You're right though, never look at currently available stock on eBay, it will only make you mad. :o:p

I'm in a similar situation but I'm factoring both the cost & the fact that I already own the mold (Albeit the original), the space to house him would be the biggest pain in the proverbial though. :o

I got Fort Max, opened him, got him out, transformed him, left him on the coffee table for a day and put him back in his box and up in the cubboard in the study. there just isn't room for him anywhere else. I don't know if I want to do that with another $100, especially when I WILL be getting generations metroplex at some point. and MP soundwave and MP acid storm.
also, I just went to my local big W at lunch and it looks like they are cleaned out. the stand where they were the other day is full of Barbie stuff now.

My partner had a bit of a "worry moment" at Domain this morning. the ATM just around from the post office has a camera built into it, that looks towards the pinpad.
after contacting the police about the possibility of the ATM being compromised, the investigating officers documented the device, and made enquiries to the bank about it.
...apparently a camera that looks at the pinpad is going to be "standard" on all ATMs soon

Got this from HLJ
Hello, Brett-
Thank you for your new order, preordering 10 apiece of two popular upcoming items.
We note that you have cancelled more than 500,000 yen in merchandise this year.
While we allow cancellations, we unfortunately are not able to continue to serve customers who abuse this policy. As we explain in the Terms & Conditions, to which you agree in ordering with us:
"While we accept customers' cancellations of all or part of their order at any time prior to payment processing (this can be done in My Account), we ask that you keep cancellations to a minimum by avoiding heat-of-the-moment orders and making sure that you really want something before you click the Add to Cart button. Overstocks due to customer cancellations affect our ability to offer great prices, so this is in everybody's interest! We reserve the right to limit or close the accounts of customers who abuse the cancellation policy, or abandon shippable orders without submitting payment."
You have many other items on order with us, but also a high rate of cancellation that we're afraid has become abusive.
For us to be able to continue to serve you, we must ask that you please do not order an item unless you intend to complete the purchase.
We appreciate your understanding, and your business with us.

Did you actually cancel up to $5,000 worth of stuff in the last year?
If so, I can understand why they'd see you being a high risk customer, and got worried about you pre-ordering 20 new items, that they don't want to be stuck with if they were cancelled as well.
(I do the same thing - if someone backs out of a group order/pre-order after I've bought the stuff, or takes way too long paying, I am less likely to risk including them next time... because other people suffer if I just decide against doing group orders all together)

Probably have cancelled items; either due to a) over ordering and not getting enough pre orders for the product, b) ordering only for me and having to cancel due to finances, or c) (and what has happened too many times) is not being allocated any product to my order and having to cancel and order from someplace else.
Take Japanese Grimlock and Ratbat. Originally had 10 on order, changed to 8 of each. Allocated 0. Cancelled and ordered from Robot Kingdom.
Trent
11th July 2013, 09:08 AM
That's a lot of stuff to cancel. Can't say I blame them for giving you a warning.
When you say you ordered 10 Grimlock's, I assume you're ordering for others. Maybe just order for yourself?
UltraMarginal
11th July 2013, 10:14 AM
i'd probably reply and politely remind them that you only cancelled certain orders, with examples, that they had neglected to fill. perhaps ask if there was a reason you were not allocated any.
I can see at face value if you are ordering for many and in their system you have cancelled several orders like this when they probably had more stock incoming, on a first pre-ordered first served basis, that it probably looks like you cancel a lot of otherwise viable orders.
Zippo
11th July 2013, 02:36 PM
I did email them when I read the email last night, it was frank.
Hi there
Items are cancelled after you fail to allocate items to my orders and I have to rush to order them from other suppliers.
I would prefer to continue to order but as ordering from HLJ is a gamble and ‘first in’ is not always ‘first served’ and I have to take my business elsewhere.
Are you emailing me telling me to take my business elsewhere?
Thanks, Brett
I have yet to receive a reply.
I can understand the email and I know that ordering 10 items to ultimately only purchase 0, 1 or 2 is 'bad' but the items are never in stock for longer than a day so by me ordering and cancelling they are not being penalised and having to keep stock on hand that never sells.
As I purchase on behalf off, sometimes I also need that security that most other retailers provide (that is that the items ARE going to be held for you) and not the will I/won't I that ordering with HLJ provides.

He was indeed boxed and fairly well packaged, it just so happened that the side of the box that his feet were facing had been caved in during transit... :(
This particular figure is well known for its abysmally designed ankle assembly; relying purely on a pair of CLEAR PLASTIC upper piston shafts, the walls of said cylindrical shafts only 1.6mm thick, to support the entirety of the figure which just happens to weigh 2 bloody kilos!:mad:

You'll be suprised at how unboring school actuslly is. I work from home but i'm stuck waiting for the othrr end of the comissions buyer. I don't get friends over cause i don't have friends available, i can't go out cause i'm broke having spent the only money on bills or food and a few exciting days foor the little kid n big kid. many days people arn't online to chat. And the last month i have been bed ridden pretty much with a bad back. So i basicly stay inside with no outside communication, hearing repeted news or shows for the whole day as an anime collection only goes so far. I can't draw cause i have no where to keep my work out flat. I watch clouds, listen to rain pretty much 365 days a year. I have to actually keep myself occupied or else i get aggressive if no activity has happened for too long. There is no structured time, there is no change of sceneary and next to no change in activity. Its like picking a school day and only ever doing that school day 7 days a week and during holidays too. So i know school might feel like it sucks now but at least you get a change in mental and physical stimilus.
And people wonder why the hell i'm building a giant manta ray.....
