I love the rims on that Focus!, they are an awesome colour and quite dressy with that steel rim surrounding the inner tyre but without being over the top; they're highly complimentary to the vehicle. ;)
I also agree with KillingSpoon, very wicked number plates. :D

Pfft, it isn't girly! I've taught male students who have admitted that they'd totally drive it.

When I stuck an Autobot logo badge to the back I tried to think of a name and the robot mode that kept coming to mind was basically like g1 Bumblebee. If I had the time, energy and talent I'd totally design the robot mode for my car.

And I cheer myself up by saying the scratches/dent in my bumper are battle damage.

Another vent... Are Toyworld always such jerks. For one, my local store seem to have insane prices, I mean $139.99 for ROTF leader class Megatron. And the prices very between the same toys, the price changes across all the deluxe reveal the shield toys. My main complaint today is that I went in to cancel a layby that I'd only had on for a month, the lady charged me
$20 in fees, claimed she had stored it for "so long" (a month, wtf?) and she was generally just very rude. I had to spend the other money from the layby as a store credit so I bought some kitbashing stuff for future attempts but I'm still peeved at the $20 of fees just to cancel a layby! Seriously, no wonder there's never anyone shopping in this particular Toyworld.

Probably because you are in the middle of nowhere, and there is no competition. So the store can do basically what ever it wants and if you want toys they have you have to agree to THEIR terms.

Yeah, wasn't impressed at all. It's bad enough happening at the best of times- let alone when you have a transaction worth hundreds of dollars you're in the middle of with them and you're actually trying to facilitate a bulk buy of stuff they're so keen to sell off that they're thinking of selling it off at half price.

I suspect when I call the manager/owner tomorrow he'll be less than impressed by it.

It's just too bad you don't get to see their layby terms and conditions until after you actually create the layby, if I had of known the cancellation fee was so ridiculous I probably wouldn't have bothered. It wouldn't have been so bad if the woman wasn't so damn rude. They have a model kit of RMS Titanic that I want but I don't want to give that woman any more of my money! Such an old goat.

Thoroughly disgusted and furious right now and I'd laugh at the irony if it weren't so blatantly offensive. On tonight's episode of Highway Patrol, one of the officers referred to a suspect on camera and before approaching them as acting like a "spastic".

It's bad enough that so much neo-Nazi bigotry exists in society, but to have it come from a member of the Police force who are meant to be the upholders of Law and Order is nothing short of inexcusable and depraved.

It's ironic- Highway Patrol is meant to be a PR stunt for the Victorian police, yet all comments like that do is paint the entire Victorian Police Force as a pack of neo-Nazi pigs.

Quit skimping on the details, I'm a girl, I want details! Why did he swear at you? Don't these people understand customer service...

I'd spoken to the manager when putting a deposit down on all his vintage MOTU figures but not his 200x figures a few weeks back. At the time he'd said to me if I was buying the lot, that he'd have given me a discount.

I went in on Friday to let him know that I was going to be slightly short on picking them up on Thursday (between $50-$100, which I was going to be fixing up the following fortnight) and we made arrangements on that. In that conversation, he'd mentioned he might be reducing his 200X figures to half price as the store is changing ownership at the end of the month.

At the time I thought nothing of it, but last night I got an idea to see if I could get a bulk buy on here, which would clear out his unwanted stock, get people on here a bargain and get me a reduction in price on the stuff I had.

So I go in this morning to ask the guy working there (not the manager) who fobbed me off about price claiming they had no control over prices (clearly a lie based on what the owner/manager said), which I pointed out was not what the owner had said, and asked him about calling the manager quickly, which he made an excuse not to. I then said that I was pretty sure that the manager would be interested, explained what the manager had said about the half price and what I was proposing if I brought a bulk buy into the equation where the lot went.

To which I got words to the effect of "look, you've got your $#!+ here which is going to be sitting here for months" and yes he did swear at me. At which point, I cut him off and in a raised and assertive voice told him that I had spoken to the owner twice about things and I was picking up most of them next week. At which point he told me to calm down and claimed ignorance. When I brought up that I would be complaining to the Manager because of how rude he'd been, I was told "go right ahead" in a "screw you" tone of voice.

If it wasn't for how the manager has been which is awesome, I'd be cancelling the whole deal after what happened and spreading the word about this store.

Out of interest what makes them "Neo Nazis"? I understand it is a insensitive comment to make but but why is anyone that makes those comments a Neo Nazi? Why not Neo Fascist as by branding them Nazi's you are guilty of the same genralisations that you are accusing the police of? Fascism exists in many forms not just the Nazi variety

Or why not just arseholes as I hardly think that making a insenstitive remark is akin to Nazi eugenics & I doubt they are looking to put people on a bus to Hadamar.

Also why is it Neo Nazi bigotry in general? Bigotry exists in all races & creeds not just Central European politics from 75 years ago.

Actually your argument here is guilty of the very mis-attribution you accuse mine of.

The problem is you've completely misattributed what fascism is.

To quote FDR in 1938: "The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it comes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power."

In other words, while the Nazi regime was certainly fascist, it was not fascism which drove the extermination of the Holocaust.

Now to deal with the Nazi aspect of things.

Hitler didn't start the Holocaust, he merely jumped on the bandwagon that was already rolling away in Germany at the time.

To quote Binding and Hoche (1920) in their Permission for the Destruction of Life Unworthy of Life:

Their life is absolutely pointless, but they do not regard it as being unbearable. They are a terrible, heavy burden upon their relatives and society as a whole. Their death would not even create the smallest gap -- except perhaps in the feelings of their mothers or loyal nurses.

Furthermore it was this very school of Social Darwinist thought which ideologically fueled the genocide of the Holocaust. Why wouldn't it have- the moment you apply this ideology in any productive way, you wind up in a situation where you are at best, saying that it would be best for the good of the productivity of society if those with a disability died out. Funnily enough, that fits neatly into exactly what is meant by slurs like "spaz", "spastic", "retard" and "tard".

You bring up the visceral example of loading the disabled on a bus to Hadamar, but that's a bit of an irrational argument. After all, only a few of Hitler's supporters post 1942 loaded the ovens. Only a few of them manned the gas chambers. Only a few of them manned the gas chambers. Only a few of them rounded up the "undesirables" into cattle cars and transported them to concentration camps, were members of the Gestapo or were members of the SS.

The vast majority simply agreed with what Hitler was doing, that the "undesirables" needed to be wiped out "for the good of the volk".

That police woman might not have been experimenting on or forcibly sterilising the disabled, but she was actively perpetuating the bigotry that says that they should be- meaning that ideologically it ammounts to the same thing. Otherwise you might as well argue that the conviction of Albert Speer in the Nuremberg trials was unjust because all he was was a number cruncher (which would be an utterly ludicrous argument).

Whether you want to split hairs and call it Neo-Nazism, Nazism, Nazi sympathising, or some other term which rightfully and shamefully brands someone as a pro-eugenic scumbag, the underlying ideology is identical.

Then again, I completely understand why so many are reluctant to admit to this form of bigotry being what it is. Considering how much disability discrimination gets a free pass globally compared to racism and sexism; if society actually admitted to this being what it is, then a significant number of people would have to admit to the ideological swastikas they've been wearing in their hearts for some time now.

Or were members of the military on convalescent leave or the Order Police (who ultimately fell under the command of Reichsfhurer Himmler but were not SS members) or local volunteers or were militias set up by the German occupying forces to root out all undesirables. It was far from just the SS & Gestapo who actively participated in all aspects of the holocaust.

This is like 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon. You can draw a line between a police officer casually using a common & often espressed sentiment that some one is a "spastic" with perpetuating the ideals that lead to genocide.

Wonders never cease..

As for Speer he was a great deal more than a number cruncher.

Then again, I completely understand why so many are reluctant to admit to this form of bigotry being what it is. To begin with, I also made reference to groups other than the Gestapo and SS when mentioning the prison guards at the concentration camps.

You mean by comparing them to a viewpoint of someone with cerebal palsy which ideologically fits in completely with that quote from 1920 which I brought up.

Talk about a ludicrous argument. There is a vast difference between wearing jackboots or driving a Voltswagon and perpetuating stereotypes with promote the very ideology which drove the likes of AKTIONT4 & AKTION14. We are talking about bigotry here, which those of us who have faced it our entire lives are all too aware of as well as the suffering to where it leads as well as leads. If you think that every single instance of genocide on this planet rooted in bigotry didn't start out with some kind of slurs and bigoted antagonism, then you have an incredibly poor grasp of history.

Furthermore I suggest you take a look at peer reviewed studies out there which have demonstrated significantly higher levels of abuse suffered by the disabled as opposed to the abled, and then try telling me that it's "just a slur".

If you use those terms on a daily basis, then as much as you hate hearing it, yes, you are glorifying the attitudes which drove the Holocaust every bit as much as someone who uses racist terminology glorifies the kind of hatred actions of the likes of the KKK. If you're that ignorant that you cannot see that then I truly feel sorry for you.

A reminder to all...
Any unresolvable issues like religion, politics or social ideologies is not to be debated here. There are sites out there catering for that.
This is not a site for picking on people and their comments just because they see things differently to your point of view. This is a toy collector site. Ignore it (non-toy stuff you don't agree with) and move on.

Griffin, just for the record, I wasn't trying to turn this into a political debate, merely venting based on bigotry I've witnessed and encountered most of my life (I test in the genius range on IQ tests but most of my life I've been treated like a worthless idiot because of my disability)- in the same way that I'd expect anyone else who'd witnessed bigotry to be able to vent about it on here, be it sexism, racism, or any other form of bigotry.

It's just sad that in this day and age when we're supposed to be so enlightened, that people would actually come on here and minimise, trivialise and diminish said bigotry when another board member had been clearly and genuinely offended by it.....

Its not like I can walk in, and 15 minutes later know their entire IT system, the ins and out of said system and how to fix any problems they have over their exsisting IT support and engineers.

That blows. That's the opposite to the problem I frequently come across, I keep being told I don't have enough experience. You can't win, eh?

I have a stack of rejection letters from 2004 saved up with all sorts of novel 'excuses' in them, which are a fun read and a good laugh... the AU job market is strange this way (not sure about NZ where you are from Zippo).

I can relate to this. I have gone to a few Interviews in the past for postions that sounded awesome and was denied for the same reason - Too qualified or too experienced for the position.

I was like WTF?

However I later found out through a 3rd party that the whole interview process in one of those companies was a sham to satisfy HR. In reality the interviewer was already pre-set to hire a relative so he needed to make it look 'professional' by holding out interviews and choosing the 'most suitable' candidate.

+1, if you want a job without connections you'll have to go through hell of an effort, took me about 6 months to get my part-time job without any connections. Most of my friends got their jobs through relatives and even the careers expert at my Uni said that 'networking' is the only way you can get a job in today's market. Kind of frustrating really because I hate sucking up to people and presenting myself as something that I'm not.

Mouse Hunt: Part Deux.

I was just at my desk shortly after coming back from work. While writing a Sales post on the board (;)) I saw something move fast from the direction of my front door forwards. Since I was looking at this from another room and it was dark, I couldn't make out what it was nor where it went. At first I thought it was a trick of the light so I ignored it but decided to tun on the living room light.

A couple of minutes later while I continued to write the post, my keen eye detected movement again. This time I got a good view of what it was - A Mouse . It darted from the living room into the kitchen and then the laundry. Once it went into the Laundry I knew that I would loose it as I have too many toy boxes there so I decided to set up one of the mouse traps I had from the 'previous incident' (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=230550&postcount=1397) and left it at the foot of the laundry entrance.

I decided to stake out the mouse since the laundry is small with no food there so the peanut butter on the trap would be the most appealing thing there for it. This mouse wasn't as stupid as the last one, the peanut butter did attract him but upon noticing the trap he circled around it and out of the laundry. This behavior intrigued me so I decided to stand very still and just observe him since mice threat awareness is mostly based on movement so as long as I didn't make any sudden moves, I was invisible to him.

I noticed the path he chose to move from one end of the kitchen to the other and then he hid under a cupboard out of sight. I decided to watch for a few minutes and during that time he came out of the same spot, observed and took a few steps forward, I made a minor sudden movement like flicking my wrist and it darted back in. We did this a few times and every time he tried to walk out using the same path in which he came from the laundry and upon being frightened went back into the same 'gap' under the cupboard. I decided to put a trap with peanut butter in the opposite direction of his preferred path and see if that attracted him - The smell certainly did but upon noticing the trap, he would ignore it and walk back on his usual path until another sudden movement would make him hide again - This mouse was not to be underestimated.

I decided to try to humanely trap him by leaving an open glass jar on it's side in the hope that he would walk in. When the mouse came out, he was at first frightened by his reflection but then came in closer to inspect the jar from the outside. After a little while, he ignored it and tried to walk back on it's path. I flicked my wrist again and he hid.

Now I decided that play time was over and it was time to trap him. I placed a trap on his preferred path not to attract him but in the hope that he would trip on it - As I expected, he walked around it and continued on the path. I made a sudden move and this time he decided to hid behind the fridge as it was closer. I knew that he would soon attempt to continue on it's path so I placed the mouse trap a bit further on but facing the wall and waited for him to come out. When he did, I frightened him forward and he darted instead of walking - That fright got him to run recklessly and the trap got him :)

Since he didn't go in head first and just tripped, the trap did not kill him, just caught him but he begun to squick like crazy. Since this mouse had proven himself worthy, I decided to put him in the glass jar and release him outside:

http://kupscigar.com/fun/mouse2.JPG
You dirty rat! You killed my Brother!

Although he was active in the jar and did not appear to be in pain, I released him outside on the ground but he didn't run - He just stood there sniffing around. I left him be and went back in.

This time I know that the mouse followed me in from the outside so they are getting in through the front door...I am still shocked that it decided to climb the stairs instead of going to the easier bottom floor units

I have proven that I can outwit the smartest of your kind so DO YOU WANT TO GET NUTS! COME ON! LET'S GET NUTS!!

We had a bit of a mouse problem for a while. Peanut butter didn't work, little blighters just licked it off and left the trap as it was. So instead I used some cheese, and the bastards got that off as well. So I thought, right, that's it you little mongrels. I sticky-taped the cheese to the traps. Worked a charm, first mouse I got crushed it's skull right behind it's eyes. Kinda felt sorry, but at last I got him.

A few nights later I heard a scratching in my walk-in wardrobe when I woke up late at night. Couldn't get back to sleep because of it, so I used the same method and put a trap in there. A little while later it stopped, and I went to sleep. Got up in the morning and saw the same thing happen.

Got another couple by traps like that, but haven't had a problem since.

Reminded me of Mouse Hunt when they kept stealing the bait.

I was in one of out Department stores on Tuesday talking to the toy person - about why they hadn't got x and x toy/series etc out on display like the other stores around the country from the same chain do.

He let me know that they did have most of it out the back, they just needed to reorganise the toy section to accomodate and that needed time. I thanked for the information and left.

On Thursday, the chain store was advertising 25% off toys, so I decided to head in and try and score myself some cheap toys. Nothing was on the shelf (as suspected) so I asked, letting them know what I was told on Tuesday. The said they were working on it over the weekend and come in Sunday.

I came in on Sunday and nothing on display. Asked again - let them know what I was told earlier and said I wanted to purchase items while on sale. I followed the dude, he went out back to get some of the items I had asked about ..

I waited for 30 minutes and then left.
F**K it .. they loose my business and I head overseas for my purchasing.
Even with shipping and waiting for the parcel its still cheaper than the sale price.

I agree. In the past money and time was a factor limiting importing. Then it was just time as the exchange rate shifted but the domestic prices didn't. Now I find with the time spent looking for a new figure or waiting for it to show up in enough stores to find it near me, it is definitely quicker and cheaper to express post toys from online sources that are in other countries, including the US.

Hasbro needs to not only do something about adjusting their prices each year to keep pace with the exchange rate (like most other things in the department stores), and they need to pace themselves more with the retailer pre-ordering - not to pressure them into buying up big with the first wave, resulting in it shelfwarming and being discounted... which loses retailers money and they won't want to re-order. Having less out in the first wave would generate more wholesale sales, as the stores keep restocking more regularly at full price. The more they have to discount to move the stagnant stock, the less likely they will re-order more of that brand in future.

As it was, the stores took on enough stock to last them through to Christmas, but if they had had that same pre-ordered volume spaced out until Christmas, they'd sell a lot more at full price and restock the later waves (that fans and collectors are after) because it is more profitable for the retailer if they don't have to resort to clearance pricing.

Then again, from Hasbro's perspective, it's better to sell as much wholesale product as possible, no matter the long term consequences, as opposed to not selling enough and causing a shortage in stores.

But I don't have a marketing degree, so I could be missing something... it's the people at Hasbro who are trained to know about business principles and forecast modelling. Long term profit strategies doesn't seem to be a concern in the toy industry. It's all about selling as much as they can at the annual Toy Fair, and worrying about next year, next year.

Hasbro's old motto says it all - 'keep the line fresh'... no long term strategies, just something new every year for the Retailers to have to offload before the next Toyfair if it isn't popular.

From personal professional experience working with marketing departments - Having qualifications in Marketing does not mean that one knows what he is doing. Some of them are remarkably clueless or short sighted to the point that not even common sense is applied.

Can't go into details but I have been appalled by the poor level of knowledge and awareness that some supposedly experienced and qualified marketing staff have. I put it to the practice that they often lock themselves in their own 'happy world' in which things work by a simple 'rinse and repeat' routine which can last them for years if everything remains stable and only when the 'game' changes do they find themselves in trouble.

I am pretty sure that much of what Hasbro does is 'rinse and repeat' since the stores also fall under the same form of repetitive practices. This is probably why we constantly see the same mistakes in the stock which the stores purchase and the items that Hasbro distributes.

I second Kup on this statement. I come from a Commerce background and thank goodness not marketing. My experience with the only Marketing subject I took on in my uni course as an elective, they aim to attain the so called "business acumen" and vision stuff by encouraging weirdest nonsense possible, let there be no boundary or logic; and if you stick with common sense or even financial awareness you are definitely screwed up in your assessments.

Yea, kinda what I am expecting. Just hoping it doesn't take that long. Plus, it wasn't sent for a lil while coz of the postal strike they had over there. I paid for it at least 2 weeks prior to it being sent.

Just put a weekly limit your spending money, or set a specific amount to put aside each time you get paid.
If you're saving towards a goal I find it easier to do up a spreadsheet, for example with hours worked, pay, expenses, savings and spending money. I know exactly how much I can spend each week and how far away I am from my goal.
I don't know if that makes sense but that got me to Botcon in 2009 with $1000+ spending money. :3

My Wife and I put 10% of our income into a seperate account each which is our spending money on personal things, like Transformers, games etc. the rest goes into the joint account which is out of bounds for hobby expenses. simple. I also have an ING savings maximiser attached to my account that hides my moey away so I don't see it in my spending account.

then when I'm looking for a big expense like a Botcon Set, there is hopefully nearly enough in that account to cover it.

enforced saving, if you don't see the money, you don't miss it.

The first thing you do is keep it moist so that the paint doesn't dry then begin scrubbing but try not to spread it. Chances are that it will remain stained and you will need a professional carpet cleaner but at least you won't end up with a huge and bold paint stain on the carpet. Soapy water with a bit of paint thinner has helped me in the past but it does rub off the color of the carpet so it works best in light colors.

if you can spare the money.... call a carpet cleaner NOW.

i was renting a property with brand new beige carpet, our dog chewed up one of those black gel pens and made the lounge room look like a dalmation!
i was convinced we were gonna have to replace it.... but i called a carpet cleaner straight away, he got all the spots out ( we're talking 100 spots of black ink! ) i was amazed!!!

that's probably the best advice, if you can't do that, there is carpet spot cleaner stuff at the supermarket that works wonders, it'll probably make you high too but you spray it on, leave it and vacuum it up.

I immediately doused rubbing alcohol onto the spill and cleaned it up with baby wipes. Several hours later I bought some carpet cleaner from the supermarket and used that rubbed that into the carpet... it seems to have worked pretty well. :) I can just see the stains - but I doubt anyone else would... I can see it because it's subtle and I know where to look.

You can also try combing the carpet with a small hair comb to remove any small flakes of paint. Just start at the bottom of the pile & gently comb upwards.

Yeah, I've used touchupguys and they were pretty good. The paint on my front bumper was peeling something bad and they came and sanded it all back, primed it, and then sprayed it all in under 3 hours. Cost me $300 all up. Very happy with the job but take into account they are all franchises so you may end up with mixed results depending on your area.

I've had damage in the form of chips and scrathes on my car and took it to an authorised repair centre, they covered the chips with a bit of touch up paint free of charge. I was lucky at the time that they had a pot of the right colour ready for another job.

Another good result from an appalling story:
*From News.com.au (http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/slug-gunned-koala-to-make-full-recovery/story-e6frfku0-1226172220202?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+newscomaunationalbreakingnews ndm+%28NEWS.com.au+%7C+National+Breaking+News%29).

A KOALA found with seven slug-gun pellets lodged in his body is expected to make a full recovery.

The six-year-old marsupial was found one week ago high in a tree at Kippa-Ring, north of Brisbane, with the pellets lodged in his skull, lower back, behind his ear and in each limb.

Three of the pellets were removed in an operation soon after but the rest will remain lodged in the koala, who Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital staff have dubbed Fleet.

A hospital spokeswoman said Fleet was recovering well from his operation and that an infection in his back foot has cleared up.

"He's eating leaf, he's gained 200g, and he's likely to be moved into an outdoor enclosure in the next few days," the spokeswoman told AAP.

"... We're hopeful he will make a full recovery."

She said more than $2000 had been raised in public donations towards Fleet's medical treatment, which she called a "tremendous response".

My vent though; how the F*** can anyone, who considers themselves remotely Australian, commit such an act knowing full well that Koalas are endangered and that they wouldn't hurt a fly?... It's a bloody Koala!:mad:

I completely agree with UltraMarginal on here, I'm sorry to hear Sharky as your Blog hasn't been a particularly happy one for a while. :(

Honestly, builders and their industry whine about not having enough work and money, yet they pull this sort of S#$%?
Is it any wonder why Home Ownership in Australia tends to be such a harrowed experience for people, in many ways I'm kind of glad I'm a very long way of it.

Sharky sounds like he has a case that could make good headlines in A Current Affairs, Today Tonight etc.

Aren't the builders legally obliged to complete construction by the quoted date? Or have you agreed to some sort of T&C that has voided this? (I'm going to assume the latter)

Sharky

the Contract protects the builder they can extend the deadline due to rain days or "unforseen circumstances" they claim lost time rain days on days they worked and were not effected byt the weather at all just because "they can"

it doesnt matter tho the builder had more then enough adequate time to complete the house it is just their own incompotence and poor time management that has caused the delays..

its frustrating that they can not be honest with us either...

We don't need to give those small minded, waste of time, moronic, stupid, trash advertisements more stories. They can make them up on their own. I really wish people would stop watching those fictional shows so they can just go away.

Yes because that worked so well when thousands of PS3 owners in the country (including myself) got screwed over by Sony. That's not even going int a little publicised scandal involving the ACCC head and Woolies involving a buyout of Franklins.

What was the difference there? Media spotlight wasn't shone on those issues so noone knew about them.

The reality is that politicians only care about public opinion and re-election. Said same politicians are the ones who hire and fire the senior bureaucrats who oversee the "actual authorities" in this country.

It reminds me of what someone once said during the Howard era- "John Howard doesn't run this country; Kerry Packer does".

Totally agree and that's why I refuse to watch either show; they're both full of crap and I'm highly disappointed in ACA as it was a show that I held in great esteem when I was in my early teens; They lost all credibility when the likes of Ray Martin and Jana Wendt left and it is such a tragedy when Journos like George Negus try to report actual Current Affairs with some actual integrity and fact, end up having their shows cancelled due to the idiotic masses preferring bent consumer guides and bollox celebrity gossip.

Hence, if I want 'entertaining' news I'll watch Network 10's The Project otherwise, I get all my news from the ABC; Their reporting is way less biased, they cover more than just the 'Top Stories' as well as having excellent shows like Media Watch, Q&A, 7:30 Report and 4 Corners - SBS also does a far superior job of reporting foreign news and it's Insight program is always an excellent watch.

I also prefer ABC for it's airing of Question Time from both houses of Parliament, it eliminates all of the skewing spin you get from the Commercial channels.

I'm personally tired of the commercial Networks, especially Networks 9 and 7, pandering to the big end of town and executing biased agendas -Case in point is the revelation that Fortescue Group hasn't been paying company tax ever! (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-11-09/fortescue-mining-company-tax/3655270) and the absolute burying of this fact/story procured out of a recent Government Committee hearing by said networks.

Definitely, just pointing out that these days the media seems to have more influence than bureaucracy, and that bureaucracy tends to be either useless or at best compromised these days.

On a separate topic, "keyboard courage" seriously ticks me off. I'd love to stare down the trolls you encounter on here (meaning the internet in general) and take them on when they haven't got a computer screen to hide behind. I suspect their acting in the worst way possible online would very quickly go out the window in that situation.

That trick doesn't work so well when the rude person is in a car. One time I was crossing at a pedestrian crossing and pushing Strollertron - and another father was also pushing his baby in a pram with children walking beside him coming in the other direction, and both of us had our respective wives next to us. So you have a pedestrian crossing with two sets of parents, two strollers/prams and another two young children all walking across... this driver just drove right through us nearly taking us all out! The other father yelled out, "Excuse you!" to the driver, but of course it fell on deaf ears as his windows were up and he was speeding away. All we could do was just look at each other and shake our heads in disbelief at that driver.

The other stupid thing was, he was driving out of a carpark too... so he really shouldn't have been driving that fast and he definitely should be paying attention as exiting a carpark.

Rude and dangerous! (just charming)

They actually considered a few years ago issuing mature age drivers with an 'M' plate so other drivers on the road would be aware. Pensioners argued that this was undignified so they ditched it. FRAK!!!!

Due to someone parking awkwardly at my unit block and me trying to maneuver around them in a very narrow drive way, I ended up scratching the rear left door of my car in a brick wall corner!!

I tried applying that polish that you get when you buy the car and it ended up making it worse by dulling the whole paint job!! DAMN!!!

Thankfully the damage is to the paint alone so the door itself is ok. I am hoping to go to Auto Cheap Auto tomorrow morning and buying matching spray paint.

Due to the stupid polish I will need to spray a larger area than the actual scratch so if anyone with such experience has any tips for me, that would be appreciated.

It depends on how 'clean' you want it to look kup. If you're obsessed like I am, I would get the whole panel resprayed because no matter how good you are with the touch-up job, you will notice it.

I've used Dural Prestige Smash Repairs before and would recommend them. For a door panel (and depending on the type of paint required), you're looking at about $200-$300.

i am sorry to hear about the scratching of the car as that just sucks, what car and what sort of colour is it?

depending how deep the scratches are you might be able to clean most of the marks of with thinners, have had plenty of cars at work where a panel was down to paint because of some scratches and all i ended up doing was cleaning it with thinners and a polish afterwards and presto no scratches!!!

I would gladly pay $200-$300 to get it fixed but Dural Prestige Smash Repairs seems impractically far away to where I live. The phone quote that I got from random painter guy I called in the afternoon (mobile painter guy) was $500! and that seemed too much for what isn't really that much of a surface area.

BTW, Why is 'matching paints' funny. My idea was just to get the right paint from the chassis number.

I went to a paint repair place around the corner - The guy quoted me $900!

I then went to another not far (by car) and they quoted me $350-$400 which is much more reasonable. He also offered to do more work to smooth it out and had a closer look at the door than the previous guy.

I don't understand why there is such huge price discrepancy.

well the idea of getting the paint from auto cheap and it acutally matching, you might luck out but alot of colours need matching after the paint has been made up from the computer.

Some colours might have up to 10 different variations for the one colour ive seen a couple of colours that have about 20 variations
Variations meaning it might be bluer, reder, darker, lighter etc etc
In saying that though toyotas are usually pretty good.

There will actually be a colour code on the compliance plate. It will be better to see if a panel beater can make you up a pot of matching paint.

I see. I was basing my comment on my previous experience on how easy it was to find paint that matched 1:1 for my previous car. I just gave them the color code from my car and they gave me green metallic paint spray that was identical. I used it a lot on scratches and after the paint dried, you couldn't even tell where the scratch was. I wish it was always that easy; as you predicted, they didn't have the color of my current car.

About 2 hours beforehand she was watching the TV with a DVD Player plugged in. She then went to use the telephone, turned off the TV and DVD Player at the same time.

About another 2 hours later she tried to turn on the TV and DVD Player, they both turned on. The TV played the opening tune, but did not display anything at all. The blue button/standby button was active, but as said, no display.

We turned off the DVD player, tried turning it off and on again, and still, no display. I even moved the TV's plug to another port on a switchboard that has 3 other vacant ports and still, display was gone.

Then suddenly about 2 days later I just turned it on with the remote when calling JB Hi-Fi and it starts to work all over again. Next time this happens though, we're exchanging it.

um i get paid to put fruit and vegetable on show, if you don't like hot cross buns being sold now, you have the option of shopping somewhere else and you didn't address the fact that hot cross buns have been sold just after new years for the 20 years i have been working in retail so i don't know why you are whining about it now and i am allowed to whine here about idiot customers it is my right as it is a venting thread isn't it.

Ah but that's the radio, they do it later to preserve the sanity of workers. If we were made to listen to Christmas Carols as early as in September I would have American Psycho'd my store already.

Oh man every now and then there's a techno mixup of all the Christmas tunes at Woolies. Sounded so bad I was facepalming myself with Tuna Cans.
