I wanted to reply something like that but since it was already too late I didn't see a point. :)
Basically - It's very difficult to permanently loose data like that from a virus unless you format first and ask questions later. Very few viruses out there destroy data as their primary objective is not to destroy but to spy, steal or trick you into revealing info.

This is true but maybe she was trying to decipher Decepticon codes! Soundwave became aware of the situation and downloaded a virus onto her PC that made the HDD implode within 5 nanoclicks...Come on, I'm right aren't I?

uh people this is windows xp not 95!
xp doesn't like safe mode.
some backup was saved, but only 5% anything that wasn't in windows - main programs section is GONE. the only thing that remained were icons of everything, so i'm in the process of installing everything from word to printers.
i still prefer windows 95/98 over this crap.
but more importantly... BUMBLEBEE :(

If I were you I would have entered safe mode (press F8 on POST - during black screen w/white text) and performed a system restore from a previous day/time you knew all was well. Sorry to hear you've lost all your data anyhow.

No further comment other than System restore is not often a reliable fix specially when it comes to viruses but that is hardly the only option. Anyhow it's too late anyway.

She said she had actually lost data, if she did the system restore it could have restored that lost data. Shen could then go about tackling the virus/backing up the restored data then formating the HDD...

We are not getting the full picture so who knows but nevertheless - It's very difficult to loose data that way unless the HDD physically craps up. She mentioned that her computer had a virus and had to be wiped, causing her data to be lost which I find a bit bizarre.

Yesterday I was standing in front of a shop and I saw a car pull into a handicapped parking spot with no disabled parking sticker displayed on the window. When the driver stepped out I told him that he had parked in a handicapped space - not rudely or anything, just matter-of-factly. We all make mistakes.
After he and his partner unload their 3 children (a baby and 2 toddlers) he hobbles over to me in the most FAKE looking limp I've ever seen and with a smart-arse grin on his face tells me that he's disabled. I told him that he needs to display his disabled parking permit on the windscreen as is required by law. He says to me, "Oh well, go call the police then!" and walks away (with no limp!) with his family.
So I whipped out my mobile phone and called the cops. They walked out of the store to go to another shop next door and his partner sees me on the phone and I hear her yelling, "HE'S CALLING THE POLICE!" in a frantic voice. A few minutes later I've finished my phone call and he comes back and says to me, "Oh I'm so scared you called the police!" in a sarcastic mocking tone of voice. I just said, "I don't care, the police have the relevant details so it's up to them now." He then told me to go fornicate myself (in front of his kids no less) and gets into the car. As they reverse out of the handicapped space the partner gives me the finger.
One funny thing is that as the father was verbally abusing me, one of his toddlers smiles and waves at me like he wants to be my friend. His mother grabbed him and yells something at him angrily in their language. Hilarious. :)

It is absolutely inconsiderate vermin like these people that I loathe in life but unfortunately these rats grow more and more in number in society. The fact they are parents and should be setting an example to their kids is equally disturbing.
Kudos to you for being a good samaritan but you gotta be careful as it may have escalated into a volatile situation very quickly.
If they want to park in a disabled car spot they should just apply at the RTA like anyone else. God knows, nowadays they give those permits out like chase cards in a basketball card pack i.e. 1 in 5. I live near Chinatown and the number of disabled parking permits on souped up sports cars is ridiculous.
That said, some people rightfully have an impairment that is not plain obvious. I remember a workmate who didn't have a kidney and was on a dialysis machine who has a disabled parking permit was challenged by some ignoramus just because he wasn't in a wheel chair.
My mate lifted his shirt up and showed him his stomach and the fellow was quite apologetic and ashamed afterwards.

Sometimes you can't know that someone is disabled, there are many disabilities that are not visible to the naked eye.
You do have to be careful sometimes, but sometimes you can just tell that they are blatantly obviously that they are abusing the privelage. I always like watching ACA or whatever when they expose people who act disabled to get a permit and then you see them walking around as if they are as fit as a fiddle.

Weve got a disabled parking permit because my son has a disability- and its not obvious at all. Id prefer not to use it most of the time as we "manage" with him and there are probably lots of people that would benefit more from it that us.
But good on you Gok just the same- it pisses me when people just pull in for the sake of their own laziness.

Heh, the other one is: "Being fat is not a disability". Take note of all the fatties you see with no permits in disabled spaces.
Good on you for taking them up on their bluff and calling the cops. :) And what were they? 8 years old? Sounded like it.
If that's the worst that's happened to you lately, can I swap my life with yours? :D
Doing what I do, I see that crap every day. And being in between a train station and a centerlink, I see every fine example of parenting all the time.
But if someone has a permit, I don't care. Could be picking someone disabled up for all you know too. ;)
The only thing that annoys me in that regard is that we have a space reserved for a paraplegic, yet people don't care and take it anyway.

Another thing is that there was a free regular parking space only TWO spots down from the disabled spot that this guy occupied. So he basically just wanted to park there to save himself a measly few metres of walking!

I think it's a shame that Australians refuse to wear face masks when they're infectuous too. It's such a simple yet effective way to reduce spreading germs about. It only looks "daggy" because nobody else wants to do it - if enough people did it (http://www.warrenkarlenzig.com/wp-content/plugins/hot-linked-image-cacher/upload/treehugger.com//japan-face-masks.jpg) then it wouldn't look so out of place.

I just realized that I messed up my work holiday schedule regarding the date that I come back from overseas. I thought I was coming back on the 10th of November but I am actually coming back on the 12th.
Where did I get the idea that i was coming back on the the 10th? F**k if I know! But I was pretty sure that I read that but upon studying my Itinerary today I saw a different date!!
There is lots going on during that week at work so precise timing was essential but I managed to mess it up and look like a dope in the process and rescheduling is messy due to several other factors but now it needs to be done.
I am seriously considering going back to the neurologist as I am loosing my ability to read, process and retain numbers particularly when they are in some abstract form such as dates.

I also queued up for 50 minutes at the carwash on my way home too... only to hear on the evening news that we might get another dust storm tomorrow! D'OH!

+1 for the anti-daylight savings crowd - I hate having to get up earlier, and I don't want people around later on 'cos that's when I'm out and about.
My hair is starting to piss me off, it's lovely and long but the maintenance is really annoying. I've been growing it for ten years and can't decide whether to keep it or get shorn.
Main bitch= I got a sweet new phone a while back on the understanding that my not-quite-father-in-law's plan got it as a freebie, which due to a Telstra cock-up (turns out it's not free and will end up costing $1100 by the time the plan ends, which is the exact opposite of what he was told when asking not one but two sales reps) I may now lose. Normally I hate new phones but I've grown quite attached to this one, mainly thanks to the whole MP3 as ringtone function, so I don't really want to go back to the pink Hello-Kitty phone, amusing as it is - curse you Telstra! Actually Telstra's been screwing up constantly for months now so I shouldn't be surprised...

Nah suprisingly not the people, well in a way yea. My main gripe is the fact that things don't work around here. Computers too slow, keep on asking for an upgrade but the bosses not caring. That and when I am not here, things don't get done which gave me a bigger workload yesterday. That teamed with my portable hard drive not working properly anymore, so no music to keep me company in my solitude at work.
Sorry for my ranting, but the stress of it all here is really getting to me, and they can't seem to realise it.

Goki is a sad panda today. :(
I went shopping at Parramatta Westfields with my family and as usual we had Softimus Prime tacked onto Optimus Pram (that's the name of my daughter's pram ;)) - she loves playing with Softimus and Slumblebee. Anyway, some <person born outside of wedlock> snatched Softimus. That's right, some low life stole a toy from a 5 month old baby. (T_T) I noticed the toy was gone when Yukikaze started crying; I suspect that the sudden move from the thief must've startled her, but of course when I looked around I was just surrounded by crowds of people.
Now I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to find another Softimus Prime, but as usual thieves never stop to think about the sentimental value of what they're stealing. I had that Softimus with me when my wife went into labour and we rushed to the hospital. That Softimus was with us in the delivery room as our daughter was being born. I held the toy in front of her when she was only minutes old. I was hoping that she could look back on this toy fondly when she gets older, but thanks to some <female genitalia> that can now never be. :( :(
So Yukikaze's lost one of her favourite toys, and my wife is unhappy too as she also personally quite liked Softimus; we both considered him to be our favourite amongst the TF plushies. But yeah, the sentimental value is irreplacable.

Shortly after being born Yukikaze is greeted by Softimus Prime
I hope Karma catches up with the son of a <female dog> who took our Softimus.
Damm man that so sux, people are such dicks, yes I hope Karma bites him on the ass
Speaking of people stealing TF related things earlier this week when my car was parked at Marayong station some person ripped my Autobot car logo off my car, leaving an autobot imprinted black sticky patch, yeah it's cheap to replace but now really annoying because should I bother getting another one just to have it ripped off again. People are such low lives. And to add to that my poor car last night had it's rear right wheel bent as I was driving home from a gig, so now he is sitting waiting to be fixed. Not a good week for him.

 Dam thats low, how could you steal from a 5 month old! Don't know if it helps but if you cant find another Softimus prime let me know as I have one and Slumblebee, that i bought and have put away both still with tags they are perfect and they are yours free if you want them :D

Oooh a thread where get to vent! Where do I begin - having to move in with my loving but insane parents at the beginning of this year, being stuck in a job and career I hate so intensley I've allowed it to get me dipping in and out of various vices - cigarettes, wacky cigarettes and alcoholism (I've been clean of all for a while now, but work stress got me back on the cancer sticks) - if you are of any intelligence and possess motivation, do not join the Australian Public Service, or at least the Department of Broadband and Communications! Just a warning.
Being single is lonely and sad and the fact that I'm just as much a shy hermit now as I was 15 years is frustrating. And while I love my pets dearly, the fact that the two beings I feel closest to in the world are a cat and a dog also makes me angry at times.
Well I'll leave it at that. And alas when one thinks of all the ills of the world out there, it doesn't always give you perspective - and if it does it just makes you feel guilty. At least that's what I've found.
Heck while I'm greatful for attending the Parramatta meetup the fact I still couldn't find it in myself to be more social and gregarious is also infuriating.

I feel for you - I was robbed a couple of years and they took anything of immediate monetary value (that could be traded at Cash Converters) that I had - but it was losing the peace of mind that I had previously enjoyed at this place that hurt the most. I ended up moving a month later because I could not stand to live there (it didn't help that in my case I was 99% sure that it was the people who lived above me that did the deed).

Well its easy to have it insured, but, if you really wanna have it insured properly..... you have to have a detailed list , have someone appraise each piece, coz NRMA only covers $10,000 ( as my collection is) and isnt even worth half of the collection's worth. My G1 alone while not in pristine condition is worth more than 10 grand but Im still hoping none of this bad luck stealing affair hits me, heaven forbid.:(

Damnit, that makes my blood boil. As bad as it is consider it a sign that you need to insure your Transformers. I currently pay $200 for my home contents insurance a year and recently called NRMA (who I'm with) to see how much more it would cost to insure my Transformers for $5000. Guess how much? ZERO. :D You just tell them you want to insure roughly however many you've got Takara//Hasbro Transformer toys for that amount and it gets attached to your home contents insurance (just make sure you take photo's of all your toys). They then send you a letter to keep with your records. I also recommend a lockable cabinet for your most prized toys! Hopefully by doing all this your peace of mind will gradually be restored. :)

Gah! That sucks. :( :( I've been burgled a few times before and I know you have that AWFUL feeling of having been violated. Last time I got burgled the guy stole:
+ Original G1 Optimus Prime
+ Original G1 Megatron
+ Original G1 Ultra Magnus
+ Original G1 Galvatron
+ Loose in box BTA Alert
+ MISB BTA Broadcast
+ My _entire_ DVD collection
+ My PS2 and games
+ My DVD/VCR
+ My microwave oven
...my Binaltech Prowl was also broken (one wing mirror snapped off, never recovered).
Here's what my TF room at the time looked like just after the burglarly:

As you know, my collection room has locks on the window and door, and my gun Transformers are in a locked display unit; all part of the legal requirements for gun TF ownership, but the lock on the window and door provide additional security for the other Transformers in my room. And of course that's in addition to the regular perimeter security of my home (i.e. all other doors and windows have locks).
Just be mindful to keep everything locked when you're not at home. The mistake I made when I was burgled last time was that I left my small kitchen window open. The window is a bit high up and the window is quite small, but the burglar pushed the wheelie bin right up against the window to climb on, and must have squeezed through to get in. Part of the problem was that even if that window was closed, it didn't have a decent lock... and the back door lock was broken (I literally had to push a chair up against the door knob to keep it closed). But that's because I was renting at the time and my landlord was a tightwad who didn't want to pay to get anything fixed (my ceiling always leaked when it rained, water from the shower would soak into the adjoining room etc.). So I moved out of that house quickly after that burglary!
But yeah, assuming that all your doors and windows have working locks then just remember to lock them. I would follow the guidelines for secured storage for gun Transformers for your collection room, even if you don't own any gun toys. i.e.:
+ Install a lock on your collection room door
+ If your collection room is on the ground floor, install window security (bars or shutters)
Another option is to purchase display units with lockable doors. But this can be a very expensive venture if you have a large collection, or you could simply lock your most valuable toys in that unit and display the rest normally.
You could also buy a "Beware of Dog" sign just as a bluff? Another option (again costly) is to get a house alarm, preferably with back to base (i.e.: the security company will send someone to check your house if the alarm is tripped).
P.S.: Here's a useful link from National Crime Prevention: Lock Burglars Out (http://www.ag.gov.au/agd/www/rwpattach.nsf/VAP/(03995EABC73F94816C2AF4AA2645824B)~Lock+Burglars+O ut.pdf/$file/Lock+Burglars+Out.pdf)
Most home burglars are not collectors. They don’t want to own or keep your goods. They just want to take as much out of your house as they can
and sell it as fast as they can, for as much money as they can get.
This is true. When my toys were stolen they only stole toys that were in box. Those original G1s were stolen because they were displayed in their G1 reissue boxes. Sometimes when I buy a reissue I'll "retire" the original G1 toy by keeping it inside the reissue's box. BTA Alert was loose in box and BTA Broadcast was MISB, so they were nicked. All my loose toys were untouched, including all of my convention and e-Hobby exclusives.
Their primary targets are expensive items that are highly portable and easy to dispose of - like television or VCR sets, lap-top computers, cash,
credit cards, handbags, wallets, jewellery, home audio equipment, power tools and garden tools, household electricals, computers, prescription
drugs, bicycles, and clothing - especially brand labels and leather jackets.
I've twice had bicycles stolen and yeah, during my last burglarly I had my DVD/VCR and PS2 nicked. They're looking for anything that they can easily sell off the street for cash.
They’re usually not shy. They’ll not only walk right in if the door’s open, many of them don’t really mind if you’re happily pottering around somewhere else in the house - while they help themselves. According to statistics compiled by the NRMA in New South Wales, more than 30 per cent of home burglaries happen when someone is at home.
While I was living at that dodgy rental house (I was burgled 3 times in that house!) I once had my wallet sitting on the dining table in the back room with the back door open because it was a hot day, but I was in another room on the computer. Someone walked in and took the wallet!
We keep our screen doors locked all the time, even when we're at home.
Now regarding the "Beware of Dog" sign...
They’re not keen on other people’s dogs.
According to recent research in the Australian Capital Territory, burglars prefer not to encounter dogs in the houses they’re breaking into; in fact 75 per cent of burglars questioned in an ACT survey in 1999 said the presence of a dog “puts them off” breaking into a house.

I bought a small alarm system for my collection and living room but I don't know how effective it may be if someone breaks in. The alarm will sound but would anybody care to contact the police?
The only thing that the alarm may be good for is to frighten the burglar away before he has a chance to steal anything but if he is aware that neighbors would generally not care then I have a problem.

Same kinda thing happened at my fiance's work. Normally of a night she will park her car at a bowser so she can see it out the window. Now Woolies have said that she has to park around the side (no cameras) There either needs to be cameras there to watch over staff cars, or they can get f***ed in my opinion. It has happened a number of times that someone has done something to her car, and Woolies won't do a damn thing about it. Even once some ass stole one of her tires.

It would be a much cheaper and easier alternative that would work just as well.

A camera would be much better. If you have seen the Petrol station in Werrington, you'd know. Plus with a mirror, can't always look at it, a camera it can record.

The mirror wouldn't be good as CCTV but it'd still be better than nothing. I'm imagining that Woolie's argument against your fiancée's suggestion is the cost of setting up and maintaining CCTV, so perhaps they would be willing to consider a cheaper alternative. <shrug> Or maybe set up a fake camera? I dunno. <shrug> I suppose another choice might be to install one of those sensitive car alarms that go off when someone touches the car... but they can be so annoying cos they're prone to being accidentally triggered (and people soon learn to ignore alarms that "cry wolf"). But in terms of alerting your fiancée while she's at work it might work.
Gawd... this reminds me of the first school I taught at in a rather shabby part of Western Sydney. I lost all my hubcaps! Another teacher had his new car _buried_ in dirt. Our Principal once told us at a staff meeting _not_ to bring our good car to school (which doesn't work when you only have one car! :/)

All valid points, but Woolies is useless. She told me that their A/C is broken and most likely won't be fixed for months or even years. And coming up to summer is going to make it fun. They cut costs at the expense of their workers. They change the price of petrol by only a couple of cents, even less sometimes, and expect them to change it as soon as they are told. But you can't when they are too stingey to have 2 workers on, and the place is full of cars. She didnt get to go and change it for nearly an hour bacause it was that busy, and they called up after and said, why did it take so long to change it? in the sort of tone "Do what you are told" stern voice.
I know too many bad things about Woolies, and Coles for that matter.
Sounds like you would have some pretty insane stories about teaching :p

But If anyone is thinking about having a security dog, bare in mind your looking at $1000's for a professionally trained dog... Obedience training is a must for any big dog to have your dog professionally trained to protect the home $1200 + But to me its money well spent.
My only fear would be getting sued by the morons who dare to break into my house for being bitten by my dog whos only doing his job. The idiocy of this world... The really crap thing about being robbed isn't so much the loss of property but the sentimental value. If the burglar had stolen say an e-Hobby or convention exclusive toy, I could replace it. Sure, the aftermarket prices would make them expensive, but not impossible. Stealing those original G1 Transformers of mine... I grew up playing with those toys... so the SOB didn't just steal my toys, it felt like he stole a part of my childhood. Even if I replaced those original G1 TFs (I have replaced Optimus Prime) I can never replace that sentimental value. :(

It's definitely not a victimless crime... not that I need to tell anyone here. My parent’s house was broken into about 7 years ago when I was still living there. I was the one that discovered the break-in when I walked into the house as there was blood on the walls (the thief cut himself up on the window that he entered through) leading up the stairs to the bedrooms. My initial thoughts were to check my room for anything stolen but the trail led into my parent’s room. All the drawers were taken out and thrown onto the floor. Later it was discovered that they ran away with my mum’s wedding ring and other jewellery. What made this even harder to deal with was that my mum passed away the year before.
The police and forensics arrived within the hour to swab the walls and dust for prints. The only advice that I was given was to call any local Cash Converters in the hope that the jewellery showed up.
Afterwards, I couldn't help but think to myself "I wish I were home to catch them in the act". There would be no way they would walk back out of my house.

WTF?!?
I am getting to the homestretch when it comes to finishing my G1 collection but it seems that the figures which I thought would be the easiest (cost wise) are turning out to be the more dear!
I have pretty much all the toys that have appeared in fiction (comics and cartoons) which I thought would have the most demand such as the Geewhuns, Bludgeon, Thunderwing, Dreadwind&Darkwing, etc and as a result, I went for them first BUT it seems that teh more character obscure stuff is turning out to be much more expensive to get!!
Why do people need to snipe stuff like the Micromaster Anti Aircraft set with over US$100? and why is Vroom get sniped wth US$140? Why do people want these toys at such high prices when many haven't even appeared in fiction and they are not that rare since they keep appearing on ebay and going for the same outrageous prices.
These toys are what supposedly "Ruined Transformers Forever TM" as in Pretenders, Micromasters and Action Masters so why the high demand and ourageously high snipes on such obscure characters?!?!

Vroom has always been expensive (for at least a decade anyway) - he's hard to find complete and seemingly not produced in large numbers to begin with. I think there are two factors at play and it's actually related to the fact that they "rooined" Transformers "foreffer!!!"
1.) In later years of G1, individual Transformers were produced in much lower numbers than those from 1984-1986 because the line was less popular and they were selling so many fewer units.
2.) Geewun! fans have finished their 1984-1987 collections by now and so they have to start buying the very toys they've spent years disdaining.
You'll get those toys eventually, Kup - good luck!

I've pretty much given up on Ebay altogether as the recent popularity of Transformers has driven asking prices through the roof.
I'm fortunate though as I am not a 'completionist' in the true sense of the word e.g. attempt to complete various lines and / or series. To me, my collection is complete as there are very few figures out there, if any, that I still want (not including future releases like Animated Arcee). Sure, there's a couple that I would like to have, but they are waaay out of my price range and I need to be realistic in that I have bills to pay and a family to look after.
My target was to have all the ones I needed (yes, that's right... 'needed' not wanted :D) by the end of 2009. With the high prices of today, I feel sorry for the true fan that has been collecting for years and is unable to reach their level of completion.

Sorry to hear that - Hopefully it will be sorted out soon.
It is very important that you work out where these transactions took place. Once i had a problem with this and the Commonwealth Bank refused to give me back my money because the unauthorized withdrawals took place on an ATM I frequented in Miranda.
After that incident, I opened up a new account which cannot be accessed externally and deposited all my savings onto it. I now only keep the absolute minimum in my mainstream account and add to it whenever I need more money through netbanking. If someone skims my card they would only be able to steal a max of $50-$100 as that is mostly what I have on it at any given time.

I don't believe that there is because Ebay would take the stance of you knew you were paying that amount for shipping when completing the transaction and had knowledge of the two items you purchased.
The only way to dispute it would be if you paid for EMS (which I assume it was when you paid US $56 for shipping) but it was sent via regular airmail.
I would have queried this with the seller before making payment.

Farout that is a big difference. And you can't do anything about it? Seems a bit wrong that he quotes you for a certain amount, you pay it, and find out it was cheaper than he said. There really should be something you can do about that.

There is nothing in the package that says EMS.
The seller caught me by surprise (I should have known better). He had an already moderately high shipping cost for a single item going for $35 - I figured that since the actual cost of the item was rather low, it evened out. However I naively thought that he would combine shipping when I added another similar size item since the shipping cost was already high enough to accommodate the extra item. I was wrong so when invoice time arrived he dropped a $56 tag on me which I was forced to pay.
Now what looks like a regular posted package has arrived that only cost him $12.48

For the time being, I would wait and see what answer he comes back with. If he's an honest seller and realises the miscommunication may have been partly his own fault, then he may credit you back *fingers crossed for you*
If things turn nasty, then you always have the dispute process that you can follow. To be honest though, it is sometimes too futile to even bother. Just make sure you keep all invoices and the package for evidence.
I've been ripped off before on Ebay and then I just think to myself how many bargains I have scored, which I like to think, evens things out.

Looked into this a bit more for you Kup and Ebay's stance is once a bid has been placed, they may not get involved in postal issues as you appear to have accepted the terms of the sale.
Having said that, you could try going down the path of making a complaint to the TRUST AND SAFETY section of Ebay as this department deals with bad items or bad sellers and they will investigate the overcharging of postage and the profiteering issue relating to the seller.
I would not be leaving negative feedback at this point as its still early, but that's completely up to you. If there is a chance you can get reimbursed, I would keep things civil for now.

Take into account that sellers may intentionally price their items lower and mark up shipping to avoid paying excessive ebay fees. I bought a Gundam Kit from Hong Kong for only $1 but the shipping was $45 - while I didn't ask him why shipping was so high, I put 1 and 1 together and figured it out since the kit was selling at about $30 from other sellers.

The shipping price reflects more than just the postage: the materials, time, and care in packaging to ensure the items are delivered without damage.
That was his reply. This was mine:
I am sorry but given the old shirt box and crunched up newspaper packaging, it does not reflect $40+ worth.
I am afraid if that's your stance, I will have to report you to the Trust and Safety section of Ebay as I believe you are scamming me by deliberately overcharging on shipping and possibly doing the same to other buyers.
It's a long shot but I hope its enough to give him pause since he doesn't seem that clever given his response to what was very poor packaging.

I wonder how much he charges his mum (I assume he still lives with her) to make him a cup of tea given the fact that it takes at least $40 worth of effort to get a cup from the cupboard alone, then she has to walk to the fridge twice (once to get the milk, another time to put it back), carefully measure sugar if needed and then go to the trouble of stirring the whole thing AND bring it to him. Plus you have to factor in the time needed to wait for the tea to brew (time is money!). I think you got off lightly only being charged an extra $40, Kup.

The seller replied again insisting that the shipping cost was justified. I spoke to ebay and explained the situation. The ebay support guy told me that what the seller is doing is a clear violation of ebay policy and gave me the direct email to report him to the Trust & Safety department.
It appears that I am not the only one since other users have begun to leave neutral feedback due to similar over charge in shipping issues.
I have sent another PM to him explaining that his selling practices are indeed violation of ebay policy with attached proof of it and gave him another chance to refund me the excess shipping cost before I make the official report.

I cant put any more shelves anywhere else in this house, cos dispite the fact I pay for the whole house, my darn mother who doesnt put anything in (except irritation) keeps shouving everything I own back into this one frikking room. Now when Im used to having a 2 bedroom house + Double Garage all to myself... to go down to ONE room, because I opened my big stupid mouth and offered her 2 Rooms in a 4 Bedroom house (that because she didnt put in the lousy $200 a fortnight we had to move back to a 2 bedroom) cos she coudln't afford where she was living? Now sure... I CAN get rid of her... (no not like that...) Not so much venting but yea.
I just read alot of the lyrics I wrote, some when I was doing my HSC and my girlfriend broke up with me (the reason I got into singing the extreme metal was to release the anger she caused me and then writing lyrics when she broke up with me) and reading them, it is scary to think of the mindset I had at the time. Even worse were lyrics from a couple of years later when I hit a really low point in my life. Really dark depressing sh** and is actually making me shake a little now. I haven't even looked at these in a very long time, and very very few people that I can count on one hand have actually seen what I wrote.
Getting onto my solo project and learning the guitar, I can finally put these lyrics into songs. Something I always wanted to do and never had the skills or the time. Still don't but I am working on that, the guitarist from my old band is giving me one of his guitars shortly so then I can begin. All these ideas in my head and no way of putting it to a guitar is hard.

Well It is sort of venting, and thats always good. And one hopes that while your here looking back on such a dark time In your Life... your having a better time of things now... Besides severely emotional trying times in life make for the best song lyrics... so when your rich and famous because of said time in your life.. dont forget the rest of us! :o
True they do, I had alot of good inspiration back then, it's hard for me to write lyrics these days, but I still do. Looking back on it ,I do realise how bad it was, and how things have changed, I have changed, my views have changed, and I the better for it happening in the first place. Although the ex I mentioned found me on facebook recently and I added her, and all of the sudden I got inspired to write some pretty brutal lyrics :p ;)
And don't worry, if I ever did become rich and famous, I would still look at you guys as my friends :)

Well after spending more than a week re arranging everything in this stupid room, including 2 new sets of shelves... i have accomplished.... NOTHING!! I for some reason seem to have exactly the SAME ammount of room *(NONE)* than what I had before?? How is this possible. Its subspace at work I tell you...
I still cant put any clothes in my wardrobe cos... well its full of frikkin unbuilt Zoids, I still cant put the rest of my transformers out... cos well... the shelves are frikkin full.
(obviously she translated this gesture as - Move In, Take Over, Pay Nothing & Expect More.)
Now sure... I CAN get rid of her... (no not like that...) BUT It requires me to find her somewhere to go, pack her stuff, MOVE HER and Continue putting in money for rent... belive me Id do it in a second if it was an affordable option. But since dispite a hospital stint back in october im still not 100% up to working.. its not an option right.. now.. this second.
SO.. yeah Im just having a rant about it.... I feel better now. Really..

<rant> I hate eBay snipers, they really annoy me.
Like today, I was happily winning an auction that would have gotten me alot of figures I wanted in one go, when 2 seconds before close some a$$ snipes the auction out from under me
I don't mind as much if there's activity beforehand, but to come out of nowhere at the last second to cheat others out of something they have been after since the auction started just aint right.
What burns more is that it was a power seller, so I just know they are going to resell the items at inflated costs rather then cherish them...
Also, I'll add "bloody americans" to that as things wouldn't be as hard to get if there wern't so many sellers that say "will ship to US only".
Because no one else deserves nice things? B@$t@rds.
So now I move on and try and find the same items seperately at twice as much cost to me.
Which would be fine if I had excess money to spend. But I don't. </end rant>

If you can't beat 'em, join em. I find it baffling as to why some people don't just bid on an auction at the very last moment (with the max you're willing to spend)...All you're doing is driving the price up by bidding earlier.

I can say proudly that I'm a sniper and proud of it. Obviously if you are being sniped, then the price you're willing to pay is not as high as the sniper. Its like most things in life, you can have anything you want as long as you're willing to pay for it. Obviously in this case, you weren't and therefore you really have no one to blame.

You have to snipe on Ebay or you loose. It's a dirty practice but its mandatory if you want to compete.
It's basically a game of poker, by bidding early you are simply giving away your hand so you have to bluff them until the last minute where you drop your bomb. It's horrible but the ebay system allows it and you can't win without it.

Yes, I stupidly put less then what I was really willing to pay.
I have had experiences in the past with either the seller proxy bidding the stuff up or smart asses bidding it up so that I have to pay that (maybe they think their funny, who knows), so I'm wary of putting my real maximum on things.
I just didn't get to put that maximum on before it was sniped.

When you get sniped enough, you just end up becoming a sniper. Or these people who have an insane amount of money and just place a massive bid at the begining of the auction to keep all others out.
...course... those are the kinds of people that cause me to spend more on ebay than I should. :o "Ohh no way are you gonna get that item that cheap pal.. ill make you pay for it!!" ... "You are the highest bidder" "...Crap..."
then of course no one outbids you and you end up paying way more than you wanted.... fooorr some reason Ive yet to learn :o Stick to sniping.. its safer hehe.

Kup, that's not right - I've won heaps of auctions on eBay at decent prices by bidding early and just leaving it. Looking at my bid history, I've won three items in total on eBay this past month - one by bidding 2 days 23 hours before the end, another 1d 23h and the other 7 hours before the end.
There would be nothing worse than living my life around the end of an auction just so I can snipe a toy. Life's too short.

Sorry but in my experience the way you propose only adds to higher prices and a higher chance of missing out on the item. For most of the years I have known ebay, I usually went for bin or low in demand items not requiring a snipe but in the last couple of years I started collecting Transformers and got fed up of being sniped constantly by just a dollar and begun sniping myself which most certainly improved my chances by a lot.
If I can take 2 minutes to write a forum post I can take the last 2 minutes of an an auction to bid. You seem to think that sniping is a daily thing for someone practicing it. On average I only snipe something like once every 2-3 weeks since I usually go for bin prices and resort to auctions when I have no other choice.

If you were right then it wouldn't matter if the price went higher if I missed out on the item - I wouldn't have to pay for it. And if I did get the item then I'd get it at a price I was willing to pay, since it's at or below the price I bid in the first place. In my experience, it's the sniping that leads to higher prices - there's always a whole bunch of people all bidding in the last minute who get caught up in the adrenaline of it and bid more than they would have if they'd just made a single bid in the first place.
If I can take 2 minutes to write a forum post I can take the last 2 minutes of an an auction to bid. You seem to think that sniping is a daily thing for someone practicing it.
For many people it is. And I can write a forum post at my own leisure at any time that I just happen to be on the computer. If I want to snipe, I have to put my life on hold, break off ties with the people around me and ensure I'm going to be at a computer at that moment and ready to bid. I'd rather have my life and live it doing what I want rather than live it around the end of eBay auctions. If "time is money", then even if I was allegedly paying more by bidding early then it would be worth it, since I'm not wasting my time or interrupting my life around internet auctions.

A have gotten a lot of good bargains from a snipe fest - Only when someone drops a bomb in the last minute like $200 for a $60 item that's when things get out of hand but that hasn't been that common in my experience although it has somewhat become more common in rarer items such as the Micromaster Transports and Pretenders.
Also when you are after items that do not appear that often on ebay, you can't just make your bid early and let it be as you don't only drive the price up as other bidders try to figure out your max but you will also most likely loose to the snipers waiting for it at Auctions end who will get the item for a $1 more than your max. You'll potentially miss out and it could be another year or two before the figure appears again in a reasonable condition - I am sure that the snipe is more time saving that searching ebay constantly for months until the item reappears again only to likely loose it again by bidding early.
I am happy that bidding early has worked for you but its been the exact opposite for me. I lost far too many auctions by bidding early to go back to it and its hardly a time intensive thing as they usually end while I am at work so all that I have to do is keep a window open in the back with the auction, put an alarm the minute before it ends, Alt-tab and bid and then Alt-tab back and hope for the best - That's it. I have probably taken longer writing this post than making a typical snipe and I am sure that I have wasted more time doing unproductive things like day dreaming or reading some wikipedia article than sniping.

Fair enough. And I have nothing against sniping or snipers at all - there's nothing wrong with it and (unlike may practices on eBay: shill bidding, bumping up postage rates, etc) it's completely moral and legal. I just find for myself that bidding before the end is better. Sniping can be disappointing for me too - I go to all the trouble to wait for the end of an auction only to find that:
a.) Some other sniper outbids me anyway.
b.) The internet inevitably chooses that minute to have a spack attack and so my bid doesn't get through. Or
c.) The phone rings or something happens or I get distracted and don't get a chance to snipe anyway!

I had c) on an number of occasions. When C happens there is nothing that can really be done - Sometimes something at work or a social occasion - The scary thing is that now I have a web enabled smart phone which allows me to be connected anywhere at anytime which means that I theoretically can be sniping when:

I have no problem with people believing sniping helps them, but it's just not true that you have to snipe to win.

Actually that's not a bad metaphor. A Seagull needs to be there the moment the chip is tossed in order to increase his chances of catching it. If he waits from a distance until the chip hits the ground and then walk over to it, chances are that some other seagull is going to get to it before he does.

I tried playing it like Sky Shadow mentioned by bidding early with a generous maximum bid on two items - To see how it goes as an experiment.
A couple of hours later some guy came in and kept bidding to figure out my maximum bid and it stopped at $1 above my bid :/
Now I am aiming for the bin prices since its not that far different from the current bids.
Something tells me that if I had left it alone and not offered my Maximum early, the auctions would have been left static as it has been for the last couple of days and I would of had a greater chance at winning the items at a much lower price since the guy would of not have enough time to figure out my maximum bid in the last 15 seconds.
It had been a long time since I bidded without sniping and as far as my Ebay experience is concerned, sniping seems like the more optimal way of winning an auction.

Are you SURE it was customs?? Not something on the sellers end?Well I know it wasn't the seller as they sent me two packages at the same time and day.
The tracking even shows it, both accepted into the USPS system same day and time (well, 2 minutes apart).
First package was fine. A little manhandled, but not wet at all and contents fine.
So either customs or someone in one of the 2 countrys post systems are at fault, I'm sure.
I should have known something was wrong when the tracking for the wet one didn't show it entering Australia until 4 days after the first one.
(Not sure how that works considering they were posted at the same time -_-; )

ARRRRRRRGH! Another batshit insane SA law passed.
SOUTH Australia has become one of the few states in the world to censor the internet under laws created by Attorney-General Michael Atkinson.
The new law, which came into force on January 6, requires internet bloggers, and anyone making a comment on next month's state election, to publish their real name and postcode when commenting on the poll.
The law will affect anyone posting a comment on an election story on The Advertiser's AdelaideNow website, as well as other news sites such as The Punch, the ABC's The Drum and Fairfax newspapers' National Times site.
It also appears to apply to election comment made on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
The law, which was pushed through last year as part of a raft of amendments to the Electoral Act and supported by the Liberal Party, also requires media organisations to keep a person's real name and full address on file for six months, and they face fines of $5000 if they do not hand over this information to the Electoral Commissioner.
The Right to Know Coalition, made up of Australia's major media outlets including News Limited, publisher of The Advertiser , has called the new laws "draconian".
"This is one of the most troubling erosions of the right to free speech in Australia for many years," Right to Know spokeswoman Creina Chapman said.

So I went to Midland Target today - the third Target store I had visited - looking for Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes Wii version, advertised for $27.
Lo and behold there was one, so I snapped it up.
Back at home, loaded the disc.... "Star Wars the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels". No doubt a fine game but I already have a lightsaber duelling game on The Force Unleashed.
'No biggie' I thought. 'I'll take it back and they can give me the right disc'.
WRONG
Not only did they not have the disc, the woman serving me tried telling me it WAS the right disc because the cover to Republic Heroes had a character who was also on the Lightsaber Duels disc (never mind that the freaking NAME of the game was different) and that only one Clone Wars game had ever been made!
I at least got a refund and used it to buy a racing game from another store (it can have up to eight players at once, using Wii remotes and game cube controllers at the same time).

Boo to Midland Target.
Haha stupid woman. Don't you love it when they try to tell you that you are wrong and they are right? If I were you, I would have asked to see a manager.
I had a similar situation when I bought what I thought was Soul Caliber 2 from JB Hifi, got it home and opened it up to find Soul Caliber 3. I already had it, so I took it back. The guy serving me looked at it and said it was the correct one. Then I pointed it out to him and he realised the mistake. At least I eventually got the correct disc.

Cant say enough about some of the quality staff working at some of these establishments. Had a case at BigW the other day,mum bought a bunch of DVD's... the checkout girl swiped em so quick over the unlocker...she actually ASKED where they unlocked she said Oh yeah sure they are. Put the sealer sticker on them and sent her off. (course i would have checked before coming home but oh no... not her)
... get home.. low and behold...the dvds are locked. And like the drive through.. who feels like driving all the way back to get them unlocked?
.. do you think they realise how easy those things are to open with a pocket knife or do you belive they place too much faith in their little magnettic thingys? (btw.. really strong magnets off yoru fridge DONT work :p )

I bough this item a couple of weeks ago:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230423624714
It arrived today and it seems that 'minor playwear' to the seller means a broken head with a missing antenna and badly done custom painted red eyes
The Targetmaster is also severely discolored but I was willing to forgive that until I found other massive issues with the Misfire body.
So pissed off since I paid premium for what it was supposed to be a reasonably good condition toy.
I have requested a refund. The worse thing is that I also bought Triggerhappy from this guy at the same time. There was a delay and he has only recently sent it. I am afraid of what will actually arrive.

He answered back offering a refund of $30. I told him that it's only fair if he refunds me at least $50 to cover for a loose Misfire body (That is actually less than the cheapest one on ebay ATM). He retains over $70 which is certainly a lot more than the worth of the junker he sent me.
The problem with a full refund is that I will be loosing about $30 if I return it due to shipping costs covered on my end and the currency exchange. This is why I get specially angry at dodgy people from over there.

FedEx is a joke...I paid $70 shipping to get an overseas item delivered on time for my girlfriends birthday which is tomorrow. It arrived on Monday but as I was at work they couldn't make the delivery. So I called up Monday evening and said when I'd be available on Wednesday for them to make the delivery (today). Just incase they came when I wouldn't be around (which of course was the time they attempted delivery) I left the provided slip in the mailbox advising them to leave the item at my front foor if I'm not around. Of course they've totally ignored this slip and chucked in a second one saying 'Sorry, couldn't make the delivery', I didn't even get a phone call (what exactly is the point in giving them this info over the phone when arranging a time for them to make the delivery??). They said they'd try to deliver it again today but no promises...F**k me dead, what a useless company.

Takara used FedEx to ship my MP Convoy spare parts to me - they were pretty darn good. <shrug>
Today some young dude (oily face covered in acne) came up to me -- whistled loudly to get my attention. Despite being fully grown (heightwise) he was riding on a kid's BMX bike... I suspect it's his childhood bike. What is it with grown men who ride kids bikes?!? It looks so stupid... like as if they can't afford to get an adults bike. <sigh> Anyway, so he rides up to me with a ciggie in hand and asks me for money...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/avatars/th_jaam_shoulders.gif
...didn't really offer any particular reason (like needing food, water, money for transport etc.) - just asked for money. At this point I'm looking at him and I can't help but suspect that he's just trying to bum money off me to buy more smokes or alcohol (or drugs), and I really don't feel like parting with my hard earned money to strangers for no good (unessential) reason. So I told him that I didn't have any cash on me.
<sigh> The truth is that I did have cash, but I was on my way to buy nappies and I only had enough cash on me for that. So I told a white lie just to get him off my back, although it's not something I usually do.
Usually when a stranger asks me for money I ask them why. If they tell me that they're hungry then I'll buy them some food. If they're thirsty then I'll buy them a bottle of water. If they want a train/bus ticket then I'll buy them a ticket. I will NOT give them cash. The genuine ones are grateful and thank me, and the non-genuine ones decline my offer and move off. But as I said, I was only carrying enough money on me to buy nappies, and quite frankly I just wasn't in the mood considering that I was on my way home from work. I must confess that a voice inside my head just wanted to yell to this guy, "GET A JOB!"
After I said no to him he rides his bike inside the shopping centre... rides past several other people and at no point does he stop to ask anyone else for money. So I'm thinking gee... he can't be that desperate.
I'm sorry if my actions sound heartless, but I was tired - and most importantly I actually _couldn't_ spare the cash. IMO my child's need for nappies supercede a stranger's random need for cash.
kup
10th February 2010, 08:39 PM
Given your description of the guy, it was not heartless. He was very unlikely to use it for food or some other necesity.
In a sense the white lie may not be a lie at all but can be interpreted as truth. You said you didn't have any money to give him because in reality you had none to spare.
Remember a couple Fairs ago at Parramatta when that fat lady bum came to me and begged for money because she was thirsty? I offered to buy her a bottle of water and walked with her to the nearest shop to buy it but when I asked the shop lady for a bottle of water, the bum said that she didn't like water and prefered a high energy drink instead. If she were really thirsty she would have been grateful for anything she could drink.
From then on I have ignored her when she begs me for money with thirs or hunger as the excuse because I know that she doesn't really need it and is all a scam.

Long rant on some douche asking him for money
Funnily enough, I had the same sorta situation happen to me yesterday after I had just got off the train to go home. It had been a long hard day at work, and I just wanted to walk home, listen to some loud music on the way, and ignore people. Some guy walks up to me and stops me and asked for money. Really I had no money on me anyway, but I was annoyed that he stopped me and my music. I know that sounds selfish, but all I want to do was just get home, while listening to my music. I too wanted to tell him to get a job as well. After I finish work, I just want to go home and not be annoyed by people.
Rant about woman in Parra
I think I know the one you are talking about. She often comes up to me as well when I am in the area.
Now I may sound like an a** here, but in all honesty, I hate when people coming up to me and asking for money. I always think, have they even tried to get a job? Or has there lifestyle become this way because they don't want to have to work for their money. Now I work really hard to earn the money I get, and every fortnight I get paid, and after bills and everything else, I am left with sweet FA for another 2 weeks. But at least I work for that money to keep me going. If I see they are genuine, I would do as you guys do and buy them what they need, but I don't see many who are genuine.

That article shows how blinded Conroy is with Righ-wing extremism and his really poor understanding on how the World Wide Web works.
You can't censor the whole world just because it offends Conroy's sensibilities. I hate it how he is arguing for the filtering as if he is representing Australian values.
The sad part is that you can't vote them out of Government and expect a change since the Liberals are every bit as Right Wing extreme as Labour - look at Abbott.

That's terrible, Kup - in that condition it's worth only a small fraction of what you ended up paying. I know I've been wary about that seller before - http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=129884&postcount=31 - he always says 'comes as you see in the picture' despite using stock photos. I really don't think he deserves to be in that Recommended eBay Sellers list. I barely trust the nuances of photos on eBay as they are, let alone when the photos aren't even for the particular toy being sold.

I scored a job as a coordinator for an employment firm yesterday- Yay right? Theres good money involved, a car thrown in for good measure. Sounds really good right?
I was also offered some work at a school which i was REALLY excited about doing, less money, no car.
Why do i feel like ive made the wrong decision? Im really down about this- I should be happy.
If i change my mind about the job and take the other one ill be ridiculed by my inlaws, and ill be poor again. I suppose i have to think of the family first.
But it doesnt make me feel any better.

When you have a family you need to make compromises as you need to take into account the collective good. However don't always be influenced by what your in laws say and make your own judgments.
Think of the job as a means to an end - Use the greater income to enjoy life more and benefit your family.

Forget the ridicule I'd say. Avoiding it doesn't give you any benefit.
However the money and the car ARE solid benefits so I would say you've made the more sensible choice here despite having possibly sold-out your soul. Who knows you may have become equally dissatisfied by the school job and screwed yourself out of a car and some extra cash.

A proposal for Australia to adopt a human rights act appears to have hit the fence after widespread opposition within the federal cabinet.
Senior sources have told the Herald that the proposal, sponsored by the Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, met stiff opposition because it had the potential to shift power from the executive to the judiciary.

Oddly enough the 'Geewun' years 1984-1986 toys are generally rather cheap and affordable. The really expensive ones are toys from 1987-1990, particularly 1988 Pretenders and Micromaster transports which I don't understand why since those toys 'Ruined Transfromers forever' and didn't even appear in any fiction.

I think this is because 1) the numbers produced were so much lower, 2) the number of losable accessories some of the Pretenders and the Micromaster transports have and 3) an expectation that these toys will never be reissued.
Good luck with Pipeline & Gusher, kup.

I am not sure, I have seen much rarer toys go for a lot less and it only takes one guy with a massive max bid to drive the price up insanely. I think that there are more than a few people out there who are basically at the same stage of completing G1 as I am and everytime any of these toys show they dump ludicrous amounts of money at it. As Fatbot mentioned, this wasn't the case just a couple of years ago.
There are also other strange oddities like why are Autobot Targetmasters relatively cheap when compared to their Decepticon counterparts? They seem to be as common as the other aside from the '86' Decepticon targetmasters.

I've been training a new employee at work over the past few days (he's been 'learning' off what I do). Today I asked him several incredibly basic questions on what he thinks he has to do (which I had demonstrated several times) at certain points during the day. Answers were always: "I don't know" or "Errr". I honestly don't know where we find these people, let alone how they get them past the interview stage. Ima shatter his blardy iphone if he doesn't start paying attention soon (those things should be banned at the workplace for some people imo, they're obviously just too addictive for them to ignore). Why is it so hard to find people with a good work ethic these days?? /rant

We have the same problem. I swear we need an IQ test or something

While IQ certainly comes into it, I find poor attitude is far more intolerable. I'd much prefer someone who isn't the brightest spark but is really willing to learn and shows improvement, asks questions and shows they WANT to be there over someone with more knowledge and a terrible work ethic. Obviously you have to find some kind of a balance but so many people that come through our doors don't give a toss, are so obviously just there for the money and have no pride in what they do. Drives me nuts!

I wonder how these people get jobs in the first place... are these like first jobs for them or are they coming from somewhere? I mean there where trainees at where I used to work.. who.. right up until I quit could not get through an hour of the day without asking me how to do the most basic of things... and when one of these people gets offered senior sales position over you.... you really have to wonder why...
... Course the same people out there getting jobs.. the very concept drives me nuts when Centrelink ask me why havent I got a job.. I dont know sirs.. apparently my IQ is higher than Room temp.

I just noticed that one of sifun's holy grails is Car Robot Fire Convoy and God Magnus. I used to have a spare God Fire Convoy set MISB, but in 2001 I traded it with a MISB MW Optimus Prime and a huge lot of loose G1 toys with a dude in Canada who promised me a complete Fortress Maximus. I got NOTHING. The dude legged it. Even walked out on his partner and her children... she told me that she and her father are trying to pursue him because he owes her family thousands of dollars. So compared to her problem mine seemed small. But yeah... not happy!! :( :(
Wow... a retro-ventage!
