What's worse is stargate I feel was just warming up to be a great series given a chance it could of been better then SG1

The producers said they had a 5 season plan with a specific Start->Middle->End to the story. They wont even get to wrap up the story now because they have already finished filming the season 2 finale, which based on what usually happens should be a cliffhanger.

I have read somewhere that SGU is not licensed by SyFy, unlike SG1 and SGA, so it would make it possible for SGU to be picked up by another US channel.
Don't know how true that is, but its the only thing I got:(

Learn some basic chords, then learn song by song- just look up guitar tabs of the song - which shows you where to put each finger and play.

Obviously some songs are harder. What songs are you looking to play?

And acoustic is harder than electric (IMO).

Driving to shopping at this time of year is MADNESS. It's funny watching people inside, most of them all look stressed and exhausted trying to buy gifts for their family and friends...

The joy of Christmas.

Whenever Christmas comes aorund, I go into shellshock on Christmas day. All this preparation and money spent on (for my family tradition) an extravagent lunch, which because we spend most of the the day preparing it we don't eat until 3pm. Then by about 4 I am drunk/full enough to stop. And Christmas is all over.
Back to work next day.

It feels like it takes almost a month to prepare for a single day, which culminates into 1 hour of feasting...

Then snoozing/video gaming/more booze...:p

Funny old world isn't it?

what!!!

man all the shows i like never survive..

I hear you dude, the Original movie is one of my all-time favourites, that and I think James Spader is an acting Genious ;):p, but the SG1 series started getting a little.. off? after it's 3rd season for me. SGU I really dug as it was a completely different approach yet still directly tied to the previous series. :(

When you guys said Medium got cancelled I thought you meant it got axed - like dropped half-way through a series. The show is going to finish it's 7th season apparently so at least it has an ending! Unlike some shows (looks at Firefly, then flips the bird at FOX)

I know what you mean. It's no too bad to do it on the rare occasion, and for a handful of people (and it feels good to help out fellow collectors), but doing it too often for heaps of people just ends up costing you too much time and money (emphasis on the time factor, as it can take hours coordinating with people for details & payment, and just packing and posting a half a dozen items). For me, the next BotCon will just be buying what I have time for at the convention, and auctioning them off on the board when I get back.

Don't worry, we still like you. :)

From GMX

"Congratulations your mobile have qon US$9,8M for FIFA 2022 Int'l Award. To claim contact Mrs.A.Bellver via: wbre@gala.net"

I thought it sounded fishy. A quick search of the email address came across many pages of fraud warning forums and Consumer watchdog stuff. So if you get a message with it, don't contact them.

Apparently this kind of scam has been going on for months under different guises. I refer you to consumerwatchdogbw.blogspot (http://consumerwatchdogbw.blogspot.com/2010/09/voice-consumers-voice.html)

Or maybe you put your phone number down on some form for some company that sneakily states in their TOS they give out your details to anyone. I hate scammers too, I remember there was this one where these Indian people would call you and start telling you you had a virus on your computer and you HAD to go to their website and buy their product (probably full of viruses). They didn't even know whether I had a computer or not and they just kept rushing to tell me to go to their website and they were outright rude. I knew it was a scam and I told them I was a computer tech that knew how to get rid of viruses, they were still adamant so I told them to F off and hope they die with retroperistalsis.

Ah Vodafone, yeah i'm a member too. They've been copping a lot of bad news recently - I thought they weren't that bad until my phone just dropped out of signal recently in the middle of a shopping trip with my sister and we had gone separately through the mall and I had no way of contacting her. You just answered your own question there :p Usually the originating number is from OS and they just 'spam' a bunch of numbers without knowing that it's an active service. The best thing to do is what you have done and that's not to reply and it should stop. No service provider can do jack about OS SMS scammers because of the different laws. The only way to 'fix' the issue if it continues is to get a number change. In some other cases, your number may have been owned by someone else as mobile numbers are recycled. If you go down this path, you'll still need to register a complaint with your provider and they should waive the fee for the number change.

That is correct - Virgin is Optus. The up side is that Virgin seems to have much better prices and better customer services than 'raw' Optus but you are still running through their lines so reception issues and the like will be the same.

I like what one politician said and that was if those thieves were caught they would be tied down and used as tide-markers. He actually said it on a live-to-air broadcast, but ya know, I don't think anyone's gonna hold it against him -- this guy's witnessing his entire community being swamped and he has to put up with low-lives taking the opportunity of this disaster for their personal greed.

You're lucky, I haven't paid $5.50 for a pizza in ages. I think ours have been cranking $6.95 for a while now. More often than not 7.95.

I bet that has gotta suck. I have never been in a situation like that.

I did when I was living in Japan. Felt a tremor almost every day. Never experienced an actual quake though (and hopefully never will *touch.wood*). But this is a main reason why Japanese toy packaging is usually designed to be easily re-packaged (even carded toys). Most collectors keep their toys stored in package cos loose toys will easily fall over whenever there's a tremor. I used to keep my Transformers in boxes when I was in Japan -- took them out play, packed them back in when I was done.

Glad to hear you're okay OS78. I should pop over to the TFNZ forum this w/e and see how the other Kiwis are doing

This morning at around 6am while sleeping in bed I felt something touch my foot, upon feeling it, I immediately woke up and kicked it which was followed by a small 'thump' sound hitting the carpet. I immediately jumped out of bed and hit the lights but could not see anything and since I am the type who likes to have a lot of space, I could see most of my floor.

At first I thought that I had dreamed but decided to look around further in the direction where I had heard it hit the carpet, at this point I was beginning to convince myself that it was a dream. I moved my desk a little bit and suddenly this brown thing came out from right behind it at top speed so fast that I couldn't even make out what it was, it was just a brown flash of light. I noticed that it darted to the living room in the direction of the corner book case. I was fast enough to follow it so I knew that it had not come out through the other side and must be behind the book case. I was still unsure on what the hell this thing was, it was too fast and heavy to be a roach and it seems smart enough to know when to hide so I figured it was something in the order of Rodentia but not 100% sure since i never got a good look at it.

Anyways, I moved the book case a tiny bit and a brown blurr darted into the kitchen and I saw it go behind the stove. At first I moved the stove forward to check - nothing. Then I lifted it and wedged something under so that I could see underneath - nothing. I thought that whatever it was must have gone inside the stove so I decided to turn it on and force it out - Nothing. It had simply vanished.

I was beginning to get really frustrated while at the same time becoming aware of the humor of my situation but it still bothered me a lot to have a mouse in my unit, specially when I am the type who doesn't tolerate any pests whatsoever. I begun to check cupboards, behind the fridge, everywhere I could think of and found nothing. Then I realized that it was already 8:15 and I was very late for work

I quickly McGyvered a mouse trap as my manic need to leave things 'right' would not allow me to leave my unit with a mouse on the loose but I have serious doubts that it would work.

Now I have to get some mouse traps on my way back from work and see if I have any luck getting rid of this super speed creature and I know that it will drive me crazy until i find it.

More scary is how did this thing get in? I leave in a top floor unit and I had all windows closed so I have no idea how it got in, specially in my room.

We had some mouse droppings in our pantry the other week, but have yet to see the little bugger, tho i can hear him sometimes scratching across the roof! God knows how it gets up/down from there. The cause seemed to be the huge bag of rice my wife loves to keep on the floor of our pantry, removed that and haven't seen any signs since.

Reading on the net, apparantly they can jump up to 12 inches and fit in a space as small as the thickness of a PENCIL. Freaking crafty buggers! Traps are supposed to be a messy last resort though, if you can identify what they're coming in for and remove it, generally they have no reason to come in.

So far this seems like an isolated incident. I usually keep all foods sealed in bags or containers although the cereal box now worries me a bit. Only the weekend before last I performed a full cleaning including mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors so there are minimal scraps laying about if any.

I've had pet mice before, and yes, they can get ANYWHERE... basically anything they can poke their tiny noses through, they can fit their bodies through. When I had mouse cages with bars, they constantly got out. I finally got out of those plastic habitats which eventually put a stop to their escapades (although you gotta make sure they're closed properly!!).

I strongly suggest that you either get rice sold in a resealable bag, and/or get a large airtight container to store your rice in. Remember that there are other things besides mice that can also get into your rice, like lice, weevils etc. Mmm... unwanted protein...

If you've found droppings and you can hear them, then it definitely means you have mice. Get some mouse traps -- I find baiting them with peanut butter on bread works really well. If you and your wife are too squeamish to look at or handle dead mice (note: sometimes the trap doesn't kill them, sometimes they escape or it just breaks their neck but they're still alive) you can get special traps where the bait is on the inside and when the mouse goes in, the trap shuts and in doing so literally breaks the mouse instantly. The trap cannot be reopened, so you just chuck it away (you can't see the mouse as it's shut inside).

For more humane measures, you can also get mouse traps which only trap the mouse but don't kill them - usually hardware stores will have this (I used to use them when I wanted to trap my escaped pet mice!) But erm... make sure you don't look into the trap from below to see if it's worked and trapped a mouse, cos when the mouse is trapped it freaks out and unloads its bladder and bowel contents (and you don't want that falling on your face!). :D

Seriously - Got home and my improvised trap was untriggered with the bait and small biscuit scraps leading to it untouched. The mouse seems to have either gone or hasn't come out of hiding.

I hope that it isn't dead as I don't want a mouse corpse rotting somewhere inside my kitchen and unable to be found. When it went behind the cupboard, I used insecticide on it just in case it was some roach, I hope that hasn't killed it.

Yeah I have done that, one where I saw the mouse last and the other on the opposite corner of the Kitchen. My Kitchen is actually pretty big with half of it open space and mice always like to run on the edges of a room so if it's still around, it should at some point come across one of the traps.

Why is your new place so dirty??!? (o_O)

Nowadays rental property has becomes such a premium with huge amount of demand that exceed supply. So Real Estates no longer bother to clean them before putting them out on the market since there will most likely be a huge line of dozens of people willing to pay more than what is being offered.

When I moved to my current unit, the kitchen was pretty dirty so I cleaned it all up. It was worth it since I had doubled my living space for very little more money and overall I am in a better building. Except for the stupid mouse, my place is pretty clean and tidy with lots of space with a dedicated collection room.

I thought if the place was dirty then the real estate agent would pay for professional cleaners then deduct that out of the previous tenant's bond before refunding whatever was remaining.

Yes that is how it works in theory.
But if they take the bond from the previous tenants and leave it a mess then they get to keep all of the bond and add that to their profit.

This unfortunately seems to happen too often.

The Real Estate will always be keen to get you in order to claim your bond but there is no guarantee that they will actually use the money to make the repair/cleaning that it was supposed to have been taken for.

They can get away with it because the former tenant has no way of verifying if the money taken is actually for the claimed reason.

Tetsuwan Convoy
1st March 2011, 11:50 PM
That's an interesting point there Kup, Surely, as the bond has to be signed OK to use by both Tenant and Real estate agent, I would expect to see some receipts for the money they use.

I got an inspection letter that had the usual stuff on it and a bit stating that if the gardens weren't in a stisfactory condition that the real estate could call in their own gardners and charge the tenant.

After reading that, I thought could the tenant dispute the costs, as they are paying for it and did not apporve it. Mosts leases state that if a maintenace call is made and it is not really broken (eg idiot can't work air-con, so assumes it broken, but was just outside plug off), the tenant will be charged for workmans fees. Should work both ways, know what I mean.

i guess "clean" is one of those objective things, what i consider clean.....is obviously not what the previous tenant thought clean was.

i think kup was saying about real estate agents keeping part of your bond for maintenance/gardening.....never happened to me, but we always make sure we leave a property in immaculate condition. i wish others did the same!

i suppose if this is all i've got to b!tch about......life's pretty good...lol

I once had a tutorial on a Saturday. That was in Japan though (where having classes on Saturdays isn't unusual). The course wasn't essential for me though, so I dropped it pretty soon. ;p

Headrobots have decided to screw customers over by making their 'Gyro' upgrade for ROTF Whirl a $35US resin kit limited to 100 pieces which consists of the head, 4 guns and 2 wings.

I was going to bite the bullet and buy it anyway but going through checkout, shipping to Australia is $35US - screw that.

I was very excited about the whirl & bludgeon upgrade set they intended to do and purchased to the 2 pack for that reason and now they're being complete bitches.

Megatoyfan.com: Gyro Garage Kit
In order to get Gyro out to fans we made the difficult decision to make it available as a very limited run resin kit. The final kit will be bubble free and casted in color with artwork and will be severely limited at 100 pieces since every piece will have to be produced by hand. The price is $35 for a new head, 4 guns, and 2 wings. The below site will be the only place to get it from and because of the time involved in producing these we would rather spend time on new designs than producing these kits.

Sounds like they may have changed their minds due to limited demand but instead of cancelling it, they decided to release it in limited numbers.

well that makes no sense. did they take a poll that i'm not aware of? if anything the demand for 3rd party products has exploded recently - shadow scythe shows people are willing to pay $300 or more for it and distributors (tfsource) are willing to gouge customers to increase their profit margins.

in fact, i passed on the universe springer vs ratbat 2 pack and now only want it because i have teabat which was made to compliment it.

i was more interested in the blood/gyro upgrade set over the voyager blood upgrade and as it stands, i'm not even going to buy the voyager upgrade.

so im just going to buy the PE Scouting Force X instead and Headrobots can go suck it.

We are talking about this particular upgrade not the whole 3rd party explosion.

Unfortunately the 'Bludgeon vs Whirl' pack wasn't very popular and shelf warmed and on top of that there was a fair bit of 'What's the point of this?' reactions from fans when this upgrade was announced which would have made Headrobots a bit apprehensive at mass producing the kit. The announcement of an upgrade head for the more popular Voyager Bludgeon would have also cemented the end of this vs pack kit.

I understand your disappointment at this kit being demoted to a limited release - I know I would but I can't say that I am surprised.

true, but i remember a lot of people were upset when the voyager bludgeon upgrade was announced and asked what happened to the deluxe version.

HR said they had not cancelled it, but now it feels like they'll do the same and produce it as a limited run and concentrate on their voyager release.

honestly though, maybe they should have taken preorders and if there was enough interest to go ahead, take on a small deposit fee.

they make me feel like they shouldn't have released promo pics and instead it could have just been a unique custom project to be admired.

I was going to trade one of the first movie Transformers DS games in at JB later this week to get the new Pokemon game. I checked their list of exclusions earlier today and it wasn't listed so I thought great. Come home tonight and double check and now both of them are listed so I don't have any other DS title to trade in in it's place. :(

Get another one cheap and take both in.
Take TF DS in and see if the guy notices. The might have an out of date list.
If he doesn't then win, if he does then you have a plan b. Worth a shot at least

yeah that sucks, reminds me i bought a x360 game - bionicle heroes second hand from someone for $10 intending to trade it at jbhifi for one of those 3for1 deals. but at the time there weren't any good games so i held onto it for a while and when a good game came out they placed it on the exclusion list. so i've had this game sitting away and decided to trade it away at Game last month and they gave me $74 for it O_O

It mostly bugs me that the list of excluded games could change within a few hours. Maybe I'll trade in the ROTF Con DS game. I got that very cheap but have yet to even unwrap the plastic from it. Probably won't miss it.

Yesterday I get an SMS from another member telling me that RtS Solar Storm Grappel had been sighted at my local Target... of course, I don't work near home and I had an after school extension class to teach... so by time I got back to my suburb Target had closed. Later another member who lives in my area told me that he'd been to that Target already and all the Grappels were gone!

Fortunately for me earlier this week I'd already given up on finding Grappel and ordered a United Grapple from HLJ which surprisingly shipped a few days ago... so it's in transit. But geez... I sure hope this wasn't the work of scalpers... (-_-)

I would like to know what brand of modems you guys are using for your internet connections and how good are they? And how much did they cost you?

I have a Netgear DM111P and it is HORRIBLE, it drops out every couple of hours. Do not recommend.

I've been experiencing about 20 dropouts within the last 48 hours.

At first I thought it was a line problem with Bigpond and after calling them they had assured me that the connection was fine and suggested that I should buy new Telstra phone splitters of the same brand with ADSL 2+ support because they think that is why the connection is dropping out.

I go to a Telstra shop, they don't sell it. So I go to a Dick Smith, a store in which Bigpond themselves recommended. The so called 'expert' behind the counter tells me that the Telstra brand splitters are crap and should get other brands other than theirs so I do, I get 2 D-link splitters and guess what happens after I plug those in? I experience about a dozen dropouts - meaning that it's this piece of crap modem that's causing these dropouts (and my warranty, not surprisingly does not allow refunds only a replacement of the exact same dud modem). And guess who sold me my modem after Telstra wouldn't replace mine because I was no longer entitled? DICK SMITH.

Another Dick Smith experience, I go in there in hoping of buying cheap video games on a Sunday. THere's 8 workers in on a sunday and I grab a copy of Age of Empires 3 and Warhammer Dawn of War. The seal on the Age of Empires 3 game has been ripped open so I go to the counter asking the girl what has happened with the discs and she says they've been stolen. STOLEN. When you have 8 people working on a Sunday at Dick Smiths how can you not see someone tearing up a game and taking out the discs? Oh maybe because they're trying to tend to the 20 customers that all looked pissed-off that they've been sold by products by a bunch of airheads. So the girl apologises and goes into the back to get the discs for Dawn of War - and guess what? She's gone for about 15 minutes to which I said to my friend - 'F*CK THIS. F*CK DICK SMITH. THEY ARE WORSE THAN A DOG'S PILE OF SH*T' and leave.

I'm usually forgiving when it comes to retail shops but this is it - Dick Smith can rot. I'm going JB Hi-Fi. And f*ck Netgear too for making crap modems. And f*ck Bigpond too, after my contract is over with them I'm going Adam.

As horrible as that sounds, I use a netgear modem/router and a hooked up through TPG on a Telstra line. I had a bunch of issues but it turned out to be crappy old wiring in the place we're renting.I put down some fresh cable, which is pretty cheap for 10 metres from anywhere and 've not had a problem since. if you can stomach it I suggest talking to bigpond again and getting them to test your lines. also try your connection without the phone or any splitters attached, see how that goes. add one thing to the circuit at a time and see what effect it has.

best of luck.

Guess what, Bigpond called me at 9AM this morning and they said all the dropouts were actually on their end - I told them about 50 times to change my ADSL associated number (as my home phone number had changed recently) and despite telling them so many times ; they never got around to it. The dud that calls me tells me he'll put me through to a Bigpond Consultant, after 16 minutes of waiting - he comes back and instead of putting me through to the consultant, he disconnects the line...

Wow, it's like they want their customers to hate them and they're not even trying anymore.

Actually, I use that exact modem - albeit v2 in combination with a Netgear N600 model WNDR3700 router and it works like a charm. :o

We get dropouts too, no where as often though but I know why we get them and it is purely due to Telstra's Archaic Copper Phone Lines in my area - Which just so happen to be the original lines laid way back in the 50s-60s.
We also have a TAFE hooked up to our exchange, which I rant over in detail above (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=229197&postcount=1387), and when it rains?...

Also, I wouldn't take the word of a Telstra 'Technical Support' staff member or a Dicksmith employee even if you paid me and why?:

Telstra don't care, wont care, know nothing and only want your money. (In my experience)
Dicksmith is a Woolworths owned shell with Sales Drones they call 'Techsperts', oh they spurt something but it isn't accurate information. ;) (In my experience)

I've the exact same setup dude - Netgear everything, Internet provided by TPG on Telstra lines and I agree, 90% of most dropout problems are with the poorly serviced and non-maintained lines of Telstra. ;)

What you say is dead right, use the process of elimination method as that's the best approach.

I'd say man, get away from Telstra and Bigpond as soon as you can as you'll save buckets of cash and headaches, but also I generally find that most splitters are exactly the same so stick with what you had and get the new ones refunded. ;)

If you do your research, have a proper understanding and are confident in what you're about to do? -
Building your own computer saves you a mass amount of money and you can tailor it to your specific needs. :D:cool:
If something goes wrong though you've only your self to blame and warranty might only be offered on specific parts as opposed to the entire computer.

I've been building my own PCs since I was 12, so I've got a bit of experience but trust me - You can never do enough research, if in doubt? seek out an experienced friend or family member. ;)

P.S. - Indeed, Tandy and Dick Smith are now the same shell cast from an evil overmind. :p

I live in a top floor unit and I had all windows closed so I have no idea how it got in, specially in my room.

I caught the mouse! It must have come back last night and it tripped one of the traps!

...I can't help but feel sorry for it though...:(

I'm glad you caught him dude, but keep you're eye out though as where there is one there is often another. ;)

I too caught a mouse on the weekend! :D

Due to the recent heavy rains and flooding that occurred in my area last week, a mouse had decided to take up residence in my house, so, with a method that I had developed with my last war against mice (Yes mice not mouse ), I superglued a piece of Dog food to the trap on Saturday and by Monday morning I had caught the little bastard!

Though, I didn't so much as catch it...
As the piece of dog food reduced the amount of space for the mouse's head to be when the arm came down, it ended up smashing it's face and allowing it to crawl off and die behind the freezer! :p:D

They should. The toy has never been opened - still in saleable condition. <shrug> I may not have time to go to that shop today, but I'll give them a phone call.

The owner refunded my purchase of DOTM Skids, but that was because there was a fault with that toy (the right foot wouldn't separate from the right arm panel). But considering that the toy remains in excellent MISB condition I don't see why he wouldn't give me a refund. Especially considering that I've been a pretty good customer for him (not that I have much choice since he seems to be one of only 2 places I've found in this place that sells legit TFs, and his is the only one that sells legit TFs that I don't have!). I'll be happy to exchange it though if he doesn't want to refund my money... maybe pick up some more DOTM figures. <shrug>

Worse case scenario I guess I could open this toy, bring it back to Australia and sell it for $25... that way someone can get this toy for heaps cheap, and I can recoup my costs. Though I'd rather not have to carry an additional Voyager with me if I don't have to, so I'll see if I can refund/exchange it first.

Hmm, local festival at a riverside park on sunday. Thought it would be nice to go but didn't want to drive since it wasn't far, but a bit too far to walk. So we took the bus.

our ide on the bus passed 2 bustops. = $1.45 in fare there, 1.45 back. No wonder I hate public transport so much!!

I agree, public transport in Perth is an absolute joke. Like Canberra, Perth is one of those cities that makes getting around nigh impossible if without a car. Had to use the bus for the first time in over a year this morning (both of my bikes are temporarily out of commission at present - I usually enjoy cycling to work as doing my part for the environment & getting exercise at the same time) and it cost freaking $3.70 for a 5 minute commute!!

Oh and yeah, my bike that was smashed all that time ago? Still in the bike shop waiting on new forks...The guy that was helping me went on 3 weeks leave not long after I took my bike in for repairs. Only just found this out yesterday too...Did this country ever have good customer service?

Perth roads are better designed than Sydney.

I'd say any other major city in Australia has a better road network than Sydney. Sydney's roads are like... well, driving in Sydney drives us locals nuts. It's funny watching out-of-towners go understandably insane when they try to drive here (still remember seeing Demonac try to drive around Sydney... that was fun for him :p) - though Melbourne's Hook Turns freak us Sydneysiders out. Perth roads look funny with all those brown streaks along the kerb/footpaths -- I'm told it's from the irrigated water... suuuure it is. ;)

I still can't get over how there's freakin' sand _everywhere_ in Perth! I've noticed that Perthians are easily startled and travel in single file to hide their numbers. ;)

Have you even bothered to ask if you can have them (or buy them)?

What's the worst response you can get, no? Or they quote you some ridiculous price?

Either way, you're no worse off - if you don't ask, you don't know, so at least ask and see what response you get.

Getting the toys isn't really the rant. I'm to scared to touch my G1's after a few breakages occured and that wasn't even from playing with them, just transforming them. I can just see what will happen in the hands of a child. I think it's great for the younger generation to enjoy what we enjoyed as children, /the toys are just so fragile.

I was on a bus today and during our hour long ride it started getting fuller and fuller until we ran out of seats and 3 women were standing. Am I alone in thinking that it's rude for a man to remain seated while a woman is standing?? Anyway, I gave my seat up for a lady -- and there were still other young men sitting down having a chat while 2 other women remained standing for the rest of the journey. As seats became available I remained standing and offered the empty seats to the other women and I only sat down myself when all the women were seated and another spare seat became available. It meant that I had to sit apart from my wife, but so be it. IMO it's just BASIC freakin' courtesy for a man to give up his seat for a lady. I've witnessed the same thing in Hong Kong on the MRT too... healthy young men remaining seated while elderly and female passengers are standing. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's bloody rude.

Having said that, while my wife was pregnant in Australia she said there were plenty of times when she was on a bus or train and even during the later stages of her pregnancy when she was very obviously pregnant, people still wouldn't give their seats up for her, even in the seats clearly labelled to be reserved for disabled or pregnant passengers. Evidently ill manners knows no bounds. (-_-)

There was an incident on a train over here. A pregnant lady wanted to sit and asked this kid/teen if she could have the seat. It was one of those seats reserved for elderly/prenant people. Manners seems to be lost on a hell of a lot of under 25s these days, with those under 20 believing that manners and respect are foreign concepts.

I'm a little of 2 minds about this issue and just playing the devil's advocate here.

I'm all for giving up seats to the elderly, pregnant women or people that need it (ie: in clutches, feet in bandages, injured, any other kind of inconvenience).

BUT, I'm not so sure about giving up seats to women - which from a reading of the posts above would mean all healthy, able bodied women who do not fall into the class of people in the paragraph above.

While on the one hand it may be chivalrous to do so, on the other hand it could look like an insult from the woman's perspective. It is very possible that in this day and age where women in the Western world see themselves as equals to men, the woman may be asking herself the question - "why would this guy give up his seat for me? Does he think that I am the weaker sex? Does he think that I have some disability? Does he think I cannot take care of myself? Does he think that I need the seat because I am a woman". Possibly, she may just find it insulting.

If however, the women that we give up our seats for are friends of yours (or your gf/partner/wife) who you are out with you as a group, then it'd likely be looked upon kindly and be considered chivalrous.

Just my 2 cents.

killinspoon: straight after a break up I would recommend avoiding thinking about girls for a while. I wouldn't recommend looking for a new girl right now cos often shortly after a break up you're kinda rebounding... and hooking up with a new girl on a rebound usually isn't a good idea (unless ya know, you're a sucker for more pain).

So my advice to you is to just focus on other things in your life, and honestly enjoy the benefits of being single again. e.g. all your spare time and spare disposable income you can totally spend on yourself! So go indulge yourself for a while. Go play with your toys, hang out with your mates etc. - just try to distract yourself as much as possible and enjoy yourself. Don't think about when you'll be ready for a relationship again, just focus on yourself.

Hope that helps. :)

I totally agree with this. In today's PC world there is a very good chance that giving your seat to a standing healthy woman would be seen as you disrespecting or even insulting her as 'the weaker sex'; or worse as an unwanted sexual advance as it wouldn't surprise me if it was seen as a form of harassment.

In my opinion a lot of good manners and chivalrous behavior can now be seen as sexist. Unfortunately just as with many things in today's western society, feminism has gone a bit extremist and it is indeed possible that by doing an act of kindness like giving your seat to a woman, could end up creating a scene if she takes it the wrong way.

whilst on the train a fairly packed train on the way home from work. a youngish woman tapped me on the shoulder and said "so are you going to offer your seat up" i promptley said no, i have just had knee surgery and i think i need this seat more then you.

well it was 2 weeks after the op but i still could not stand on the train. and whilst it may be seen as sexist to offer up your seat to some women.. other women expect it..

she turned a nice shade of red... and i still cant stand on the train for fear a jolt will do some damage.

Fair enough if you have an injury... I was one of the first passengers on the bus we were on yesterday and I saw all these uni students get on the bus. None of them appeared injured. And there were several male students sitting down while those ladies were standing... it's unlikely that they all had injuries or some other good reason not to stand up and let the ladies have their seats. +1. I have NEVER understood the reason why children bash their toys about. What fun is that??

Even as a child I always played with my toys, not trashed them. I treated my toys with care - which is why the majority of my childhood Transformers survived my childhood quite well. And most of my Transformers that are broken were broken by OTHER kids like the one ITZTRU described... which ticked me off big time and made me quickly learn to hate sharing my toys. I think quite frankly, if I went about abusing my toys, my parents would have probably stopped buying them for me -- or just bought me cheap crappy "expendable" toys.

Maybe this Soundwave was a hand-me-down from an uncle or something... <sigh> but still... children should be taught to respect property. If they don't respect their own property, they're not gonna respect other people's property. I bet that kid also breaks other children's toys, just like how other children broke my toys!

My 22 month old daughter throws her toys about a lot, but that's cos she's a baby who lacks finer motor skills -- and you wouldn't give a baby a toy with so many small parts and is as easily breakable as Soundwave. And if she starts deliberating smashing her toys, I'll do something about it like tell her not to do it, and if she doesn't comply I'll confiscate the toy from her. The fact that the parent would stand there while their child deliberately abuses a toy... well...

A former colleague of mine has two sons, and she has a rule where her boys aren't allowed to play with any toy that's older than they are. ;)

Little kids are born to be bastards as they're born curious, they want to push the limits to whatever they do until they encounter a figure of authority they can't push. Smashing a toy is an example of that, they think it's fun to smash apart a toy because they're probably imagining it exploding and don't really care about the consequences until A) it's enforced upon them by their parents OR B) they realized they broke their toy and can't get a replacement.

GoktimusPrime
19th April 2011, 09:21 PM
I dunno... like I said, I never did that with my toys as a kid. Simply because it was blatantly obvious to me that if I broke my toys that I would no longer be able to play with it again. I guess that puts me in your category "B" -- but I wouldn't smash a toy to find that out. It was just incredibly obvious... same reason why I didn't go around running into walls or trees ya know. (-_-)

Kids do test their limits though... I wouldn't say it's because they're being "bastards" - it's just that children are born as moral/ethical "blanks" and testing their limits is part of how they explore what is "right" and "wrong"; or more accurately, what their parents will let them get away with. And thus it's part of a parent's job to set boundaries... your child is destroying property -- bloody do something about it! Teach them to respect property.

Speaking of respect for property... I know I've complained about some things about China (and there's a lot to complain about!), but I must say one thing I do like about China compared to Australia is that there is much, MUCH less graffiti here. Actually, they are some theories that would say otherwise.
Primal instincts want both a caring parner and a physicaly able partner they are usually not one and the same.
The typical story being a woman marrying a rich guy while cheating with her personal trainer. She gets a child with physical atributes of the personal trainer while being able to raise it in a stable comfortable environment that the rich guy can provide.

That being said. It comes down to the person.
Some women are bitches. Some guys are doucebags. But they only show that and not what the whole gender is like.

So it means you can go out and be like John West and go for the best.

Indeed, Just look at Ramses II (The Great) - 92 years of age and had over 100 kids in his life time.:D
But these days dude, women dictate who, when, where, why and what with relationships and a Bloke is purely lucky, such as yourself, to be rewarded with finding a long-term partner.

Luck? What's luck got to do with it?

Luck is that point in time when opportunity meets preparation. :D

Actually, they are some theories that would say otherwise.

There are theories that say a man cannot physically knock up more than one woman at one time?

(I know that a woman can be technically be knocked up by more than one man at once through heteropaternal superfecundation, but that's rare. And awesome.)
