I had an uncle who departed 'on his own terms' earlier this year after his asthma/allergies and Parkinsons became unbearable.

There is only so much you can do. :(

Indeed, not much at all; I'm sorry to hear of your loss too. :(

So I went for a ride yesterday and at the last second decided to hit up a jump but didn't really leave myself enough time to set up for it. Anyway, my feet weren't properly positioned and one foot slipped. Lets just say that the pedals I affectionately refer to as 'shin shredders' lived up to their name :(

Ooh! *Insert Excruciated Smiley* - Dude, I bet that's swollen and throbbing like a female K-9!

After all the nonsense with PayPal and the Australia post 'load and go card', logic forced my hand and I went with a cashiers cheque instead. It was easier, and none of the silliness of a million passwords or 6 digit codes.

I have since found a myriad of horrible bordering on toxic reviews of the load and go card. Be for warned, the concept of a prepaid card is excellent, the implementation of the system as a whole is woeful to shoddy. Does anyone know of/have a reloadable card that has no issues?

Good news is that after seven warranty services, I managed to get my computer replaced with a different one (but still refurbished) which has better specs and is worth more.

Bad news is that it is Windows 8... :(

The reason I bought the original one was because I wanted Windows 7 and not this "no-start-button/touch screen/apps" rubbish.

had a call from child support about my income(cause i'm on sickness benefits since the accident) and they asked me would i be able to pay the debt i had with them(if anyone's ever dealt with them you are always in debt to them). i said no cause atm i'm getting $383 per fornight(yes that's right). so they said would you be able to sell any assests to pay it off. i said i don't have any to sell and if i did i wouldn't sell it for you. so then they said could you ask your friends or get a loan. i said no. if i went into a place to ask for the money they'd laugh at me and my friends would tell me" tell them to go F themselves).well anyway to cut a long story short they are now investgating me to see if i have extra money to pay the debt. they are going to go through everything and i mean everything to get the money out of me.i told them this isn't communist china and if this what your job is then the laws need to be changed. i have always paid my way in life and never asked for a handout and never expected any hand out and the only reason i have this debt is because when i rang them to tell them i'm off work with no income the idiot didn't log it in the system. so i'm stuck with a $8000 bill. i have always paid it but this time i ain't paying and i'm willing to go to prison for it.

I have a seperate bank account at a seperate institution that has a visa debit card attached to it, it only has spending money in it and is the only thing I use for online banking.
Works a charm.

I feel your pain iamirondude, I used to have to deal with centrelink when a student, I ended up doing most of my degree part time so I could work enough to avoid dealing with them. It seems they are there to make life hard for the honest guy.

They should have record of the phone call at least "for training purposes" Stick to your guns, insist that you informed them at the time you did. and you will pay them back when you are able.

I hope you get better from your accident soon so you can avoid them as soon as possible.

Awesome, that's great to hear! I thought that this was the case but when I got the computer I had a quick google and found no mention of it. Now I just gotta get Win 8 to update everything before I can get 8.1, so annoying.

Last night, I found it pretty sad when I had to google how to do the most simple of things like closing an 'app' or finding the 'shut down' button :(.

Bought a 3d printer (wanted one for years) but when I receive it the build plate does not heat up (essential function), and therefore it doesn't work. Sigh, call support. They send out a replacement heater board, I install it today. Test it. And the exact same thing occurs. The problem has to be something small. This machine wasn't cheap. Just annoying and frustrating as for most people it is working 15 minutes out of the box. I've had nothing but trouble.

It is a good machine, the Up Plus 2, maybe I just got a dud, (dead upon deboxing)

Haven't given up hope, perhaps its just some small thing that once fixed all will work.

Summer is awesome. You can actually do stuff outside in the arvos before it gets cold and dark. I was swimming at 8pm on Thursday in a rock pool watching twilight turn to night. Can't do that in winter. Ocean is a lovely 21 degrees atm and the humidity isn't that high.

Winter 'coldest' day is normally 15 ish degrees. Not very humid, and I don't mind the dry heat that much but when it goes on for a week or more it gets pretty tiring. That's why I now work outdoors at night time ! :D

I work part-time pay half the utilities and rates when these bills should be split into thirds. I have no savings to speak of. My older sister runs her own business and has her own family now and my younger sister is an executive assistant but that doesn't mean she's a millionaire.

I have no problem kicking in money from time to time but I'm not getting a mortgage so he can seek religious enlightenment.

That doesn't sound entirely legal. surely there are limits to the amount of industiral noise even a farm can produce.

You'd be surprised. I've got mates that live in the area and near farms that have different crops that mature in the winter. Some of these farms have massive wind turbines which are designed to keep blowing across the crops to stop frost settling and damaging the plants. They make a hell of a noise and due to when frosts begin to settle they run them at night. My friends have made complaints but have been told by the council that 'It's a farming area and allowable'.

Talking about lowlifes, my brother told me he was sitting out the front of his house when a few of said "humans" (I use the term loosely) decided to check the door handles on my parent's car to see if it was unlocked. When he called out to them they just continued walking down the street. My brother overheard them say "Damn, I didn't even see him there"

It's alright, he probably won't look before crossing the road one day either. the only drawback then will be the grief he causes a driver.

My wife came home from work today and some idiots went to her school and the next one up the road (5 minutes away) last night and stole ALL the copper water piping out of the ground between the buildings. So 2 schools today have no water and won't for a few days at least. Plumbers will need to trench all the routes and rerun everything. Bloody low lives

Now the school has to walk all the students down the road to the local surf club twice a day to use the toilets and they have no running water.

My daughters school suffered the same fate last night.

My theory is that nowadays kids are not raised by parents but rather by the institution (Government or Private). Due to high cost of living, two average incomes can barely make do so both parents are required to work in order to sustain the family. As a result, kids are 'handed over' to child care full time at a too early age. So they are raised (or herded in) rather than receiving a proper parental education on ethics, morals and all the important things that form a person's character at that early age.

The result - A generation of self entitled sociopaths who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves and that includes their own 'friends'.

When it's about children coming from lowlife backgrounds like parents who drink, take drugs and are on permanent government benefits..well that's just the result of no longer having an effective means of natural selection present in the species.

Similar to Trent's and Demonac's story, this happened at our local church last year but it was the aircon pipes which they took that were made of copper. It's a widespread racket that police are fully aware of. Problem is, they don't have the forces available to patrol schools and churches after hours and there's no one to call it in until the next day.

i agree. also the kids are being taught their rights instead of what happens when you commit a crime. i've seen some really really bad parents here. they will flat out deny that their kid is a little turd even if their caught red handed but i also believe that a lot of parents are letting school raise their kids too. the parents of the crim's down the road ain't fit to raise a tomato plant. i've walked passed or drive by and their either drunk or sniffing paint in the yard(they live on a corner block with a low fence so you get to see everything) child services come but they don't seem to do anything. the kids would be better(maybe) in a foster home where they are well looked after and not seen as a pay check.

I live in a large apartment block. it's down a hill in a valley, long windy drive way and apart from allocated garages there is some limited visitor parking, maybe 20 - 30 spots for 98 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.

Often when I have a visitor, I have to park on the street (300 or so meters up the hill) so they can have my garage because there is no other visitor parking available. because 90% of the visitor parking is taken up by selfish jerks who live here.

This frustrates me, a lot.

My garage is situated in a long tunnel of garages underneath the apartment block where opposite is a wall. On the wall there is a "no parking sign". Several times in the last couple months someone has parked along this wall. it makes it really hard to either get in or out of the garage. If I had an old shitbox car I'd probably just run into them. but I don't.
someone was parked there for a night and most of the day on the weekend.

this morning when I go to leave the cleaner is parked underneath the no parking sign. I decided to give them a break and try to get out around them. it takes 10 or so turns and by the time I'm done i'm pretty ticked and reverse fast so I can close my garage door. In my haste I nearly run into someone else coming out of the tunnel. I get out and lose my sh*t at the cleaner and she tells me off for yelling at her, doesn't move her car and proceeds to go about her business and ignore me. there is a Loading zone marked spot less than 5 meteres away outside the tunnel.

I call my strata manager about it this morning and he tells me that unless I can give him a unit number he cannot do anything about it. if I did go to the trouble of finding a unit number for him, he would send them a letter and ask them to stop.

if it continues for months, and people still park where they are not supposed to, then a third party gets involved and they can be fined.

I really want to start breaking windscreens. It looks to me like there is no recourse or support for doing the right thing. I'm considering parking across as many spaces as I can in the visitor car park when i get home tonight. but then I'll probably get keyed.

You should start a petition with all your neighbour etc and take that to the manager and next strata meeting bring it up also .... or you can print out a notice ( stating formally that you got their detail and the next time that it happen they get towed away at their expense etc ) and glue/paste it that to their windscreen !! I use to get people parking in my shop parking before because it was near the lifts in an apartment complex ... once I paste a notice on and they stop parking there...

yes that is true that some unskilled are getting paid more then teachers, police etc.. but if you were to work on a weekend or a public holiday then they should be well paid for giving up time with their families. a lot of the unskilled make a lot of their extra pay by doing that so they can afford to live a little bit more comfortable.

Weekend and Public holidays rates will go nowhere - if someone wants to work odd shifts to get a higher rate then good for them. My issue is when the base pay is greater for unskilled workers than skilled workers. I'd rather have a hospital with capable nurses than a manufacturing company with capable staff anyday.

i actually agree with that. when you have nurses and emergency service workers that their base pay is less then the unskilled worker then the system does need a overhaul. the thing tho is when politicans start touching and reworking stuff, they always end up screwing it up. they would have to be some of the most inept people out there.

i actually agree with that. when you have nurses and emergency service workers that their base pay is less then the unskilled worker then the system does need a overhaul. the thing tho is when politicans start touching and reworking stuff, they always end up screwing it up. they would have to be some of the most inept people out there.

yeah, I don't know how it can be fixed but something needs to be done - medical staff should be their #1 priority IMO - heck its terrible reading the stories of people who drop dead waiting for an ambulance.

maybe if these politicans took a pay cut and had their entitlements taken away then we may see something being done. the politicans shouldn't be getting paid what they get as representing your people and country should be a honour and not seen by a lot of politicans as a job and a way to help their party and mates.

that also pisses me off. when they leave office then that should be it.no more snouts in the trough. another thing that pisses me also is that they put their party first, then their mates and somewhere right down the line come us. it should always be the people and the best interests of the country first. their hell bent on selling most of our assets and prime agricutural land to other countries(also mining leases) that if there is a problem down the line, we are stuffed. you see no other country selling their farms and most of the naturals resources to foreign companies/countries.

yes that is true that some unskilled are getting paid more then teachers, police etc.. but if you were to work on a weekend or a public holiday then they should be well paid for giving up time with their families. a lot of the unskilled make a lot of their extra pay by doing that so they can afford to live a little bit more comfortable.

Just a query, not a criticism - if someone only works on the weekend because it is at higher rates, shouldn't they just get paid normal rate because they aren't "giving up time with families" since they have 5 other days to spend with them.
Wouldn't it be fairer to be paid as "overtime", ONLY IF it is a person who works the 5 weekdays AND the weekend (which keeps them away from their families, or personal free time)?
That way, there is only the one penalty rate all week, paid to people who work more than 5 consecutive days in a week. We are becoming a 7-day society, so why have different pay rates to different days? If two people work 5 days a week, and one does Mon-Fri, while the other does Thur-Mon - wouldn't it be fair to pay them the same money for doing the same amount of work? Bump up the regular hourly rate to offset the reduction of the higher weekend rates, and just pay overtime for anyone doing more than 5 consecutive days in a week (if they don't end up with a 2-day "weekend" somewhere in the week). And then after-hours earns the regular penalty of being night rate.
The last place I worked at would have 5-day rosters, but people would earn more because they worked on a Saturday or Sunday, despite doing the same 40 hours and having a "weekend" somewhere in the week.
Some people may target a weekend job because it pays more, just to cover the high cost-of-living (with a family & house to pay off)... but others do it because they are young or single and it earns enough to not work the rest of the week. So if you get paid more for the exact same work (just because it is a different day of the week), shouldn't preference go to people who need it more?

if you work only on the weekends, no it should be at normal rates until you go over your 8hrs. if you work say thurs to mon it to should be at normal rates. i mean that if you go outside your normal work hrs(eg 9 to 5 or 6 2 etc etc) i know of places that pay you overtime after 8 hrs and others pay it after you've done your 38hrs but if your on-call then you should be getting double time as it's outside of normal working hrs eg 2am in the morning.

that just reminded me of this old bloke i use to work with. he whinged and bitch how he wasn't making any bonuses so the bosses scrap it. so from then on we never went over quota and when the boss complain we just said" bring back the bonus and we'll go back to what we were pushing out daily." the thing was for most of us, we needed the bonus to prop our pays up as there was no overtime or crap like that.

griffin
6th February 2014, 06:06 PM
It's cheaper for a business to have an incentive scheme (productivity bonus) and overtime than hiring extra workers at the base rate (which means training, allowances, Superannuation)... so I don't know why they complain about it. (other than being greedy of course)

My previous employer would only pay 150% all day on public holidays, which is smaller rate than if it was a full day of overtime on a non-public holiday day (first 3 hours at 150%, then 200% from then on). They claimed that it was really 250% on public holidays, but the full-time employees would earn the normal rate (100%) by NOT working... so that doesn't count when you consider the sacrifice of working on a public holiday (away from the family who are all off as well, or just to have the time for yourself). You should be paid more than the Overtime rate, not less.
That was hardly fair... but when a corporate giant like one of the major supermarket chains has so much power at EBA time, the workers and Union end up having to agree to it or risk being replaced by 3rd party contract labor (like most supermarket warehouses now... and they have much worse rates and employment conditions).

Also, when you think about it, a normal overtime rate of 150% (time and a half) isn't as much as you may think for a full-time employee... especially on the night shift, because only one of several elements of your wage earns the extra 50%. Your "ordinary" working hours earns you 9% in Superannuation... but the overtime doesn't (unless you have it in your employment agreement). Plus, only your "ordinary" hours earns you entitlements like Annual Leave, Sick Leave and Long Service Leave - each of those adds up to a worthwhile dollar value. So if you worked out your entire hourly rate with all those entitlements and your Super payments, you are not getting "time and a half" of what you earn during your normal hours. Your entire ordinary rate is more like 115-120% of your hourly rate (and more if you have allowances, like shift allowance or laundry allowance, etc)... but overtime is just based on your hourly rate, so probably only ends up getting you about 130% of your entire hourly rate (as the Superannuation and Entitlements don't apply during overtime).
Small business and employees have little to no power, and yet are ignored in favour of the big corporations when they get into trouble. Those Corporations and big businesses are greedy enough, and have the power to do what they want... the adversarial employment system needs to change, to incorporate neutral mediators in any employment contract or group agreement - so that it is fair, and not "technically legal" based on whoever is in power to change the laws in favour of one side or the other.

I worked in retail before my current 9-5 role. Retail was 7 days, with one day of late night trading, rotating rosters.

I can tell you the amount of work on peak periods (ie: weekends, public holidays, boxing day, etc) definitely earned the extra pay. While I worked in computer sales and had base + commission, the poor kids on the counter, selling CDs/games/working the storeroom didn't. It's definitely a case of penalty work. Otherwise people are less likely to work the harder shifts, and you're going to have more customers with worse/less staff.

If (and lets just say a massive figure that i'm sure has no basis in reality) 50% of people work 9-5 and do their shopping outside of those hours, shouldn't the people working to service the usual demand + that 50% of people be paid more for the less desirable hours?

That being said, I'm sure the system needs a kick in the ass, but shitcanning penalty rates completely wouldn't be the way to do it.

i think every one is forgetting that kids dont go to school on the weekends so if you do work weekends then that is cutting into family time. And what about night shift people that start work at 12am, shouldn't they be compensated for starting at that hour while you are tucked into your bed.

iamirondude

i could never understand it either. as time went on orders slipped as machinery broke down and such and they would expect us to make up that difference during work hours but without the bonus. not long after that i left as i couldn't support my family enough on it. it was basic award wages. you can survive on it but it's really really tough. the massive corps like woolies and the others are holding the government to ransom. they know that if the unions push to hard they'll replace with contractors or like the big mining companies, with overseas workers, who they can legally pay at their countries pay rate, as was the court case last year showed. it sucks but the best thing would be to break up woolies and coles and the other duopolies and make law saying that you can only own or have x-amount of market share. they did it in america with standard oil and they threatened to do it to telstra not long ago and they need to stop selling our natural resources off so cheap. do what norway has done with their oil money(plus too they tax the s*** out of it, so that oil companies pay a lot for their oil rights and what they pump). if they liquidated their oil fund they could give every norweigen(i don't know how to spell it,sorry) a million dollars in their currency.

That's why I was acknowledging the need for out-of-hours (5pm to 9am) penalty rates, but the school kids thing should also be a factor... but that's where more flexible working conditions & rates would be useful (determined by a neutral party - not between employer and employee like Workchoices wanted, which left the power in the hands of the employer).
The Award should be a minimum framework, but since everyone is different, with different needs and commitments (not everyone is a two-working-parent home), so work environments should be semi-flexible to accommodate the many different employees and lives.

It is a most unfortunate circumstance in which some people can go through life with flagrant disregard for rules, order or common decency and have a consequence free existence. And other good, honest, hard working people have to put up with and often pay out of pocket for the ill behaviours of others. And often if action is taken to correct said individuals, the honest person falls to the law.

There seems to be a distinct lack or absence of logic and/or common sense here...

There's a really good article by Barry Cassidy (ABC Insiders) about the whole SPC/ penalties debacle and he basically says that Abbott had everyone on side for not bailing out SPC because Coca-Cola was big enough that they could have dealt with it but stuffed it by claiming that the workers were being paid $50,000 a year etc which were all exposed as being false.

If Abbott had stuck with his stance, "businesses have to stand on their own feet." He wouldn't have to had to deal with the sh*t storm that came down last week and he would have had Labor and the unions where he wanted them.

Yesterday, at roughly 11:30am AEDST, I lost my 87y/o Great Uncle to severe Renal Failure. :(

Some may remember my mentioning of his diagnosis in early December 2013; well, at the complete astonishment & bewilderment of both my family and the medical professionals looking after him, with only 7% kidney function and absolutely no dialysis, he was discharged from hospital and fought on for another 2 months...

...but he was re-admitted to hospital last weekend suffering anaphylaxis brought on by the medication he was taking to cope with the effects of Renal Failure; sadly he went to sleep Tuesday evening and never regained consciousness.

His passing closes a generational chapter in my family; as along with his wife (Who passed away abruptly only 7 months ago) & his elder Brother (My Grandfather who passed 7 years ago), he was a patriarchal pillar, looked up to by many in & outside of our family with great love, respect and reverence.

He only ever entered hospital 3 times in his life; At birth, returning from serving in WWII and this final time.

I feel mostly for my second cousins who have now just lost both of their parents within a matter of months, one of whom's children have only had a chance to know their Grandparents for a decade... probably a little less I think, it's a set of circumstances I surely hope I don't come to experience myself.

My Great Uncle reflected my Grandfather's qualities in so many ways, there were differences but they were quite outweighed by the similarities; both were quite close, shaped by serving in WWII, surviving the Great Depression and carrying on & furthering an already very successful family business in accounting.

I am just glad that he is no longer in pain, physically or of heartache - I'll love him forever and always, and though I am not a religious person, he was and I like to think that wherever he is, he's with those he loved in life.

You'll be missed, Uncle Brian.

This is called natural selection. Also karma. It would be nice to see the laws changed to allow one certain "latitudes" to defend himself/herself and his/her family, friends, strangers and property. The police must get sick of dealing with "known" offenders constantly.

I heard a story years ago about some kids who broke into cars outside a gym I went to at the time. They were spotted by one of the members through the window who rounded up a few of the larger members to "confront" the offenders. They went outside and proceeded to beat the snot out of the kids. Consequence free apparently as I never heard anything further regarding charges laid. Made me smile. Hopefully it makes you smile a little too.

This is a pretty harmless vent, but I rearranged my shelves last night very carefully (with TF figures on them and lego). I very carefully took out each shelf slowly. I was very close with my classics shelf, some fell off but most survived. However, when I went to take out my G1/reissue shelf, all hell broke loose. :(

Almost got it to the end, everything was looking great until the constructicons tumbled over, they were seperate at the time (still are), Devy parts went EVERYWHERE, since I keep them at the back of the shelf. Soundwave missiles, cassette chrome bits, the whole bunch just went flying. Took me a solid half an hour to find them all. Most of the Lego ended up unscathed, but the minifigures all got knocked down from their delicate positions. :(

Glad to say everything looks WAY better now IMO (pics to come in update), but I have realised that I REALLY need glass shelves. The black shelves obstruct the things on the lower shelves from my view, which kinda sucks. Thanks for reading my pointless, small vent. :p;)

@bidoofdude glass is nice for seeing stuff lower down, unless you have too much stuff on the shelf above;). If you have figures with loose hips it's a little harder to get them to stand up. But, it does let in more light making it easier to see everything on the shelf. It's also thinner so if you have some very tall figures, you might be able to just squeeze them in where you previously couldn't.

F'ing brilliant! Going away to Mildura for a night to try and get me away from all the stress I've been under due to work and my parents passing. And what happens on the way? Despite driving slightly under the speed limit the whole way, going through some tiny piss-ant town I missed a sign that said for 500m it was 50km, not 80km, and I get a massive F'ing speeding ticket!

Yeah, my stress levels are right down thus far :(

The copper even fully believed I did it by accident, and dropped the fine down to doing over 10km over rather than 25km, but that's still 4 demerit points and a $250 fine :( If he acknowledges it was unintentional then why the hell not just let me off with a warning?! :(:mad:

If it's from Aldi, the device is probably made by Medion. The quality of their products is massively poor. Everything is designed to last a short time and be disposable. If you send it away for repair, be ready not to see it for at least a couple of months with a fair share of headaches along the way.

I guess you get what you pay for.

You are better of pulling it apart and trying to fix it yourself. It may not be too difficult as it sounds more like a loose connector or cable.

Bought one for our daughter as a Xmas present and it died 3 weeks after. It's already been sent back and they confirmed it's faulty (same as yours, won't hold a charge) and now we're just waiting on a replacement which happens to be the next model up. I said to the wife when we get it, we should just sell it on eBay and use the money to buy something better to avoid being in the same situation 3 weeks from now.

im happy with it, just wish it would still charge.
when the girl on the helpdesk said it would be fixed in week+half it sounded dubious.

I'm trying to sell a couple spare baseball tickets to the big ABL game here in Sydney on Saturday night.

Someone purchased them on eBay yesterday afternoon at the Buy It Now price of $518 which is cost without covering ebay fees or ticketek fees.

I was ecstatic.

I messaged to ask if they'd like to meet up to save on postage or just pay through pay pal so I could post first thing this morning.

I finally get a reply after training last night, She's not going to pay for them. She "misread the listing" which is code for changed her mind.

So now I have no listing for the tickets i'm trying to sell I have to wait untill Game day at least to submit a non paying buyer claim and I am still albout $530 in a hole with baseball tickets I can't use.:mad::mad:

I've had a online chat with an eBay person, I can start a cancel transaction request and relist while that is happening. this person has only had 3 purchases in the last 12 months, she's probably not even going to bother with agreeing to cancel the transaction. in which case i'll then have to start another request for a non paying transaction after that one doesn't go through.

I have relisted and can only hope for the best but it's been nearly 24 hours now since she clicked the "buy it now" button.

there is no option to provide negative feedback to a seller but if there is an unpaid transaction it is recorded with ebay. I don't know how it's used to make other sellers aware that the buyer is flakey. I should have had the instant payment through paypal selected. then I could have forced the transaction. I was allowing for cash payment to make the sale more attractive.

So sick of my left shoulder hurting! It's been two months now! I tried ignoring it (the manly thing to do) hoping it would go away but for the first time that tactic didn't work. Then went to the Doc's and he sent me off for ultrasounds but there was no obvious tearing or anything wrong. So now I have to get physio on it and if after two weeks it hasn't improved, then I have to have x-rays to see if there is something wrong with the bone joints and shoulder socket. REALLY hoping I don't end up having shoulder surgery!

Pretty dodgy doctor. I am no expert but X-Ray would have been the first thing upon not noticing anything superficially wrong.

For the past week I've had what I can best describe as corked lower-back muscles.

Sunday - Wednesday were utterly horrible; practically unable to walk, sitting in anything other than our lounge was excruciating, using the loo and getting dressed, it has all been incredibly frustrating.

Thursday onwards I've been doing a series of lower-back muscle stretches/exercises, followed by at least 5mins of walking (Which I swear I looked as retarded as I felt); it hasn't helped that the strain has been playing on my Sciatic Nerve either, leading to a "flare-up" at about 5:00am on Friday morning that had me doubling over in pain whilst trying to get out of bed to use the dunny.

Up until last night, I've had to take Ibuprofen to relax the muscles and somewhat mask the pain just to be able to get to sleep! :(

This past week has felt so incredibly unproductive as I've not been able to get anything done that I really wanted to, the only plus being that I've caught up on 12 seasons of South Park... Which desn't feel as good to say as I'd like it to.

I would start with emailing amazon and explain your situation exactly. There is a feedback option there somewhere on sellers as well and amazon have a chat option as well. so give that a crack. Even though they are 3rd party sellers, amazon still appears to ahve quite a bit od sway in how they do stuff.

Traffic has been absolutely terrible in Sydney from the Bankstown area to North Ryde - More so than the usual. For six months it was manageable with the occasional traffic day every couple of weeks but nothing major - No more than an hour's drive, often less. However for the last 3 weeks it has been absolutely awful. One day it took me 2.5 hours to get to work but several days it's been an hour and a half, even two. To give you an idea off distance, if I drive off peak, it doesn't take more than 30 minutes. During the holiday season it was just 20.

It's so crazy and unpredictable that once I left an hour early to arrive 30 minutes late and another time I left late only to arrive early!

Today was the last straw as I was stuck in traffic for 30 minutes but only moved 3 car spaces forward during that time. Worse still was that I was only 1 km away from work! I was very tempted to just abandon the car and walk.

As a result I have even more contempt for our backwards and badly designed road system and will be forced to brave our backwards and inadequate public transport system. It will be bad but at this point, it is the lesser of the two evils.

Shame, having the car gave me a lot of freedom. Now I won't be able to go to the gym at lunch hour or drive to an nice cafe or restaurant for lunch. Sucks donkey balls

If you've got the time to dispute it and you're confident you weren't in the wrong, its $250 plus your 3 points worth it.

I've disputed a couple parking tickets, different situation as the meter was busted and I had called in at the time to report it and had a situation number, but all it took was an email both times.

perhaps taking the effort to dispute it might be enough to convince the authorities you at least intended no harm.

I wouldn't bother disputing it as when you look at it in black and white you were clearly in he wrong. You may have been trying to do he right thing but you touched your phone while driving, a clear offense. I understand that you were stopped at traffic lights and trying to connect to hands free, but when it comes down to interpretation of the word of the law, you're in the wrong and that is how it will be seen. Good luck disputing it but from personal experience, they won't even consider withdrawing the fine. I was fined for something similar about 4 years ago and I can tell you that any infraction involving a mobile device is considered a 'high-range' offense and cannot be reversed. It's considered as bad or worse as driving while under the influence of alcohol / drugs. Sorry.

Posting this here so hopefully others can see it.

As most of you know, we built-on about 4 years ago using Farrugia Building Services and have had no end of trouble with the builder Anthony Farrugia. It started out when we had the first significant downpour. Water started flowing over the top of our gutters into the eaves creating mould spots / damage to the outside of the house. This was because he blocked off one end of the gutter with the apex flowing toward it. Basically, the rain water had nowhere to go.

To make matters worse, he didn't connect the only downpipe (50 mm in size) which services 3/4 of the roof to the storm water so now we have moisture getting trapped under the slab shifting the foundations of the new room. It has now separated from the rest of the house.

On top of that, there was one side completely missed that has no flushing under the roof tiles near the iron valley so water is basically running back under the tiles and into the roof cavity cracking the ceiling and creating further water stains / damage inside the house.

We had a building inspection done a couple of weeks ago and the assessment made was that the builder was highly negligent in his workmanship. The inspector to his credit stated that we should be going through the Department of Fair Trading (mostly due to the fact that we originally contacted the builder to rectify these issues 4 years ago which he refused to do and became verbally abusive).

Given the storm we had last night which most Sydney-siders would have known about, we now have a lovely water feature running down the door frame of the new room into several strategically placed buckets.

It's come to a point that we simply cannot wait for the Department of Fair trading to make a ruling and have had to proceed with the repairs ourselves which will leave us out of pocket approx. 9k. Our chances of reimbursement are next to nothing.

Word of warning to anyone considering using Farrugia Building Services located in Quakers Hill NSW - stay away. He is a violent scam artist who will take your money and run. Do not make the mistake we made.

I had a similar issue - not quite to the same extent as you, thankfully - but the guy that came to test the line was able to ascertain exactly where the issue was, and he contacted Telstra (we weren't with Telstra) to advise them. They fixed it - it ended up being a junction box or something that filled with water and the line kept dangling into it, especially in bad weather, shorting it out (or something, I'm not any kind of expert on these things) at random times. Maybe a similar issue for you?

I clicked on "Buy it Now" on Ebay but the items went on my shopping cart instead. I thought they were already reserved for me. But the listing is now unavailable.

WTF?

I don't trust using dyes / chemicals that close to junior (same goes for scissors, razors, swords, hacksaws, blowtorch, wipper snipper, hedge trimmer).

Lol, I hate phone hassles so much. Some lovely fellows who probably happen to work for Telstra pulled my connected line out of the apartment junction box for me one day. It was labelled as well. Thanks guys!

Took a week for a tech to make their way over. I'm not even with Telstra, but they're contracted to much of the fixing.

Now whenever I see someone in the phone cable room, I take a photo of their car, just in case my phone mysteriously goes down on the same day.

Considering some of their other business practices (http://m.ibtimes.co.uk/hewlett-packard-pays-108m-settle-money-laundering-bribery-charges-1444373), this doesn't surprise me in the least.

And there are accusations of them doing worse.

You buy a brand name PC and you'll get much less for you buck and crappy 2nd grade parts. As corporations, they will try to skimp out on material cost for maximum profit.

It's ridiculously easy to put together a PC. I would go as far as to say that it's easier than a mid level Lego set.

Wow 5FDP that's appalling. thanks for the heads up, I hope it gets sorted out for you, might be something worth the ACA approach. There are too many dodgy tradies out there giving legitimate businesses a bad name.

Gee, that really sucks mate - and 9k is a damn fair chunk of change! Dirty buggers!

On a sorta similar (but not really and at least 9k less important) note - if a Zadong Pei attempts to join the Ozformers FB chat group, or any group you run (I run Big Angry Trev's Transformatorium: https://www.facebook.com/groups/130836707023755/574547232652698/?notif_t=like) do not let them join. I didn't think about it at the time and they laid low for a few months but sure enough today they started trying to flog sunglasses on my FB group!

I thought it somewhat dodgy that some half dressed asian girl with only a half doz FB friends wanted to join my FB group. But then it was a demographic I didn't seem to be catering too and wanted to let it be known all were welcome :p I think some other similar girl (bet they are pimply male teen spammers in real life) joined that day too, so now just to await her doing the same.

How much spare time do people have to do that sort of thing for fun.

Earlier this evening I was waiting to turn left at a roundabout. Three cars coming from ahead were indicating right, so I gave way to them... the fourth car wasn't indicating so, assuming that it was going straight, I proceeded to enter the roundabout to turn left. The car then proceeded to turn right, then had the audacity to beep me for cutting him off! He then beeped me again when we parted ways at the next traffic lights! Yes... how dare I not read his mind and give way to his not-indicating car!

Maybe... just maaaybe this is why our cars have indicators! :o

I used to feel anger towards people that can't drive properly but now I just feel sorry for them. What may seem like a simple task to us 'norms' e.g. indicating, their feeble minds can't comprehend the complexities of turning a steering wheel while operating other instruments on their dashboard at the same time. It's all a bit too much and I can only imagine how these people survive day-to-day and all the challenges that life throws at them. I'm all for equal opportunity but there needs to be an understanding that driving is not a rite, it is earned. The RTA is the real villain here ;)

Myer online! GRRR. Bought a Lego Technic Crane on the 26th April. Spose to be Click and Collect from the Perth CBD store the day after. Got an SMS and email to say it ready to collect so went there on the Sunday. Got there and all that was available was those stupid Lego movie cards that was free with the purchase. The Technic Crane was on back order as they had no stock. So spent Monday morning on the phone to Myer trying to sort it out. Anyway, they said they have found another Crane from another store......over East  so will post it out free of charge (I should think so).
Now all this happened over a week ago. Today I finally get a message to say it's been shipped today. so I won't get it until next week now.:(
So something that I should of got 1 day after I bought it has now spread out to 2 weeks.
Aussie retail is pathetic!

First coat of paint is on the walls in what is to become the nursery. Man I hate paint fumes. I feel a headache brewing and I have a feeling it won't hit until tonight. Second coat goes on tomorrow.

Who would be a painter? It's got to be the crappest trade ever. Imagine if your work life consisted of inhaling paint fumes and painting walls Every. Single. Day. For 40 years.

I'd be looking for a noose.
