Wow. 20 years was a good age. Always a tough time to lose a 4 legged family member.:(

Condolences. :(

Thanks everyone, he was a fluffy black and white cat who was shy but friendly and loved his belly being rubbed. I buried him in the backyard and we're going to buy a plant as a memorial.

I can say I feel bad for the official who has figurines in his office. One is described as scantily clad. I'm really curious about which figure caused offense, and what the other figures were. Just gonna come out and say it though, personally I think they are bullying and shaming him. If he has a bunch of sexy female figures, even if its just a style or fully wearing clothes, people are gonna freak out causes he is a male. Oh I don't know the full story, but I know from past experience at work I have had other team mates joke about collecting toys. It has been quite embarrassing at times, but I never actually bring them to work with me. Anyway been an adult toy and figure collector, there are always a bunch of people who are gonna think its strange, in fact its going to be alien to some people. Depends on where you work, will determine if its work appropriate. For example if you are in a creative industry, I would think it should be part of the work space.

Just a final note, I think the said official is very foolish. If your male and you have female anime figures in your office, your gonna piss off someone. People are gonna freak out if your a grown man and collect dolls! everyone sees differently though a different lens. Not judging, just saying

I also agree that the official should not have bought those figures to work since it is still somewhat of a stigma (which is slowly turning, Lego seems to be widely accepted now). No matter what, someone will probably be offended by those figures, especially without context.

If the review on the classifications guidelines end up banning those works from sale, it doesn't actually stop consumption of it. Manga and anime has widely been available online (official or otherwise), and this will not stop. People will use VPNs to avoid being caught or get around censors. I'm not saying that there is nothing wrong right now, but it feels like a knee-jerk misguided and biased view from a politician.

This feels exactly like that first wave of banned sites that ISPs were forced to do last year. The next day, people were already finding ways to get around it and it felt like such a waste of money.

I found another article regarding the figurines. The article was produced around the same time, and mentions the figures were in fact not Anime at all! they were a collection of DC and Marvel figures based on the movie characters. The offending figure was Harley Quinn in shorts, also there was a shirtless Jared Leto figure! What a joke. So the ABC left out the info about the figures on purpose, so that they could push Anti-Anime agenda. Also as mentioned in this article, there was also a one stage, a big cardboard cut out of Donald Trump! I'm sure some will not approve, but I'll make the crack, Make Anime Great Again !

Settle down, no one's going to take your anime away from you, we've been down this road before and it tends to reset to zero.

When I used to work at Phantom Zone we had a shipment delayed for almost a month because customs thought Crow, Flesh and Blood was literally crow flesh and blood. That was the late 90's.

I was hoping they would have at least been of something interesting. Like, if he'd had a hand-painted figurine of Doctor Krieger's virtual girlfriend from Archer then that would have at least had some points for style, but movie-based Marvel and DC figurines? BORING

Also now I really want a high-end, clear-plastic model of Krieger's virtual girlfriend, with select voice samples from the show...:D

What the center alliance wants to do has be done before it used to be focused on the content of what American publishers were producing and it always gets rolled back, if it does get traction it'll mean that the center alliance has made a deal with the government on some legislation and personally I'd be more concerned with that piece of govt legislation, especially with the panic buying and the coronavirus hanging over our heads.

Apparently the Melbourne facility is working at a third of its normal capacity because of social distancing measures and it's apparently quicker to have it sorted in Sydney than keeping it in Melbourne.

Imagine buying something from the UK, it arrives and instead of putting it on the porch like every other package, they decide to put it next to the mailbox, when it's RAINING.

My parcel gets ruined, and what was inside (a vinyl record) gets ruined. The vinyl record itself is OK, but the sleeve is destroyed thanks to the weather.
Wish the people at Auspost would do their job correctly.

A few years ago, I was at work but paranoid about a registered parcel i was waiting for (an MISB G1 crystal Hot Rod) getting damaged, so left work early. As I walked towards my front gate, I noticed the parcel on the ground (bad postie, should've left it at my local PO), and it also started raining. Felt like i won the lottery that day.

Screw Telstra!

Not only have they decided that only one person in my family can purchase devices now, despite us wanting everyone to manage their own stuff. They also told me they are ending post-paid billing for all customers and changing everyone over to a "Netflix" style payment model that requires people to pay upfront with credit cards.

Needless to say, it has gone down poorly for us. Now we are going to have to separate everyone's stuff onto different accounts and get certain older people to understand they can't go to the post office and pay the phone bill in cash anymore. Grrrrrrr.

A driver raged at me today because I stopped and gave way to a bus in front of me had started indicating to pull out from a bus stop. Despite the fact that, under NSW road rules, drivers must yield to buses that are entering or changing lanes. The driver followed me and continued raging until eventually turning off down a different street.

REG 77

(1) A driver driving on a length of road in a built-up area, in the left lane or left line of traffic, must give way to a bus in front of the driver if:
(a) the bus has stopped, or is moving slowly, at the far left side of the road, on a shoulder of the road, or in a bus-stop bay, and
(b) the bus displays a give way to buses sign and the right direction indicator lights of the bus are operating, and
(c) the bus is about to enter or proceed in the lane or line of traffic in which the driver is driving.
Yeah, how dare I obey road rules.

More motoring fun...

This morning a ute exited a driveway and cut me off as it entered the road without giving way, forcing me to apply my brakes. I flashed my highbeams as a warning as I approached the vehicle, but the driver was in no hurry and continued to just slowly and casually pull out in front of me. The driver then beeped his horn at me and gave me the finger.

Later I was pulling over to the roadside to drop my daughter off at school. Just a regular residential street; wasn't in a No Stopping zone or anything, and I used by indicators nice and early to let other drivers know that I was pulling over. The car behind me decided to tailgate me and when I stopped, he was too close to me to easily overtake. He squeezed his car past the back of mine and then slammed on his accelerator and sped off. In a 40km/h school zone. Naturally there were no cops around to witness this. This was a school zone... there are school kids walking around everywhere, but the driver decided to get mad because I dropped my daughter off at school in a school zone?! I do this drop off every morning. I always indicate and there's plenty of room to my right for cars (and buses and trucks) to pass by. This dude was in a sedan.

For work I am part of a share car rental thingo, and I need to grab a car for Monday. I have used the rental car so much that I can get nicer cars at the lowest rate, so I've been eyeing a car near my house that I'd like to drive, but it's marked for maintenance indefinitely it seems. I'm so sad. First world problems hey?

The good about about the share rental thing is there is a good variety of cars, so I've been trying out various cars to find out if I would like to buy one or not. So far I've discovered that I don't like the boxy ones. Sure they are spacious inside, but they are yucky to drive. The Solio is particularly yuck. Currently the one I like to drive the most has the interior designed in ways I do not like; mainly in regards to cup holder placement. Again, first world problems. But I mean, seriously, why would you put the cup holder right in front of the vent like that? You'll end up chilling your hot drink if you do that. On the plus side, I guess it could keep a cold drink cool? But I'll rarely drive with anything other than a hot coffee in there, so my scorn remains!
