How about we just agree that some people prefer going to the movies, others prefer watching movies at home. Both have their pros and cons.

Now can we move on :)

I think its a little of both for me. As a default, I prefer to watch movies at home because of the set up I have, but for some movies, I will brave the cinema to watch it - eg, it's a pretty cool feeling to watch Iron Man or Prince of Persia in a packed cinema, adds to the atmosphere. For other movies, they can be watched at 8-9pm on weekdays and there will hardly be a soul at the cinema (of course I stay 3mins walk from George Street cinemas, so I abuse it like hell, heh).

PS: 5FDP, cool new avatar and sig there. I always liked Scorpion better than Sub-Zero (maybe just like I prefer T'Cracker and Skywarp to SS).

GAH! My PC has been infected with a nasty virus/malware of some sort and won't run anything, including the anti-virus software or cleaner program.
And of course, the local computer repair place isn't open until Monday.
Fingers crossed they can repair it for a not-too-exorbitant price...
I'm typing this on my stepfather's PC but that's really not a good option long-term.
So yeah, until Monday I won't be able to respond to anything.

Been receiving calls from a Victorian number for the past 3 weeks - 0399382698, sometimes 4 in one day. You call the number and it tells you that it's the Age / Sydney Morning Herald trying to contact you about their products and services and to call another number 136666.

Having been caught out with these scams before, I googled the information I had and sure enough it is them trying to contact me to renew my subscription. Only thing is - I have never had a subscription with them nor do I intend to.

I called 136666 and spoke to an operator named 'Julian' who seemed not to care or even apologize for the plethora of random calls or the fact that I had to wait on their queue 10 mins just to remove myself from their list that I shouldn't have been on in the first place. He wasn't even aware of the situation which I was able to find out with a simple google search.

All I can say is they better take me off their list or I will be registering a complaint with the Do Not Call register.

Rant about telemarketers

Firstly, are you on the DNC register? If you are and have been on it for longer than a month, you can complain about it.

What annoys the f*** outta me is the fact I get them on my mobile from companies like Optus offering me an iPhone to change over to them or some other garbage like that. And as far as I know the DNC does not cover mobiles, and therefore no way of stopping it. And because I am expecting a phone call from job prospects, I have to answer it.

I had one the other day calling from Melbourne asking me all these questions and s*** and all I wanted to do was just hang up. I am too bloody nice to these people when I shouldn't be.

And oh, just FYI, anyone who uses an air horn down the phone can get into alot of trouble from the police if it is reported by the operator. It is a form of abuse. I know because when I was on the phones, I had it happen to me and I reported it. So just warning you peoples just in case you do that (which I saw a while ago someone here does)

Honestly, there is are no justifiable circumstances, you just need to hang up. If the same poeple keep on calling you, then you can take it further with speaking to their supervisors, or through the DNC.

Do you have the option to question the rent increase amount? The same thing happened when I renewed my lease, but it was only $20 a week. On the letter stating it was being increased, there was a note saying if I thought the increase was excessive I could go through channels to have it questioned. Maybe you can do that? It does seem a bit much

Nothing to be found, so i politely ask a staff member if he knew if they had them, i get a rude short reply of, I dunno. so I mention they are on the website he just shurgs and walked off. Now, being in retail i know what a pain in the ass customers can be, but when you throw something on your website you'd think you'd make sure it was actually in your inventory. (...) moron. Or he is looking for a quick buck.

Hopefully it will get thrown out of court, beacause that is just sad. Unless I can sue Mars for Starbursts which has gotten me onto my sugar addiction.

Seriously though, an addiction to something usually points to problems elsewhere. The games people could come back with a "Get your life balance right and you won't get addicted." Sort of motif. I think the only uncontrollable addiction would be a chemical one, so even though playing games would release endorphins or something like that, that is not really the games companies fault is it? Are all people addicted to this game that play it? No, probably not.

Sounds like the guy is a loser. I should be a lawyer!:p

You know, this reminds me of something Lemmy said in an interview (which I watched last night :p) where he said that the media focuses on the negatives basically. This was in reference to some kid blowing his brains out because he listened to a certain CD. He went on to say how many people didn't do that? The CD sold 500K and out of all that only one person died? Pretty good odds :p

You are right though, I think it has to do with his own personal life that is to blame, not the video game. It's the age old story all over again when people want to blame someone else for their own problems.

Could also be that he is just after a quick buck :p

at the moment i dont know. there's a problem which i am having trouble figuring out how to handle.

the back door's doorknob/lock had been recently replaced by the landlord. what i discovered (after the robbery) is that even if you lock it from inside, it didnt lock properly.

which is why when i came home that night it was the only door that was open plus the gate behind it.

so what should i do?

ask for compensation from the landlord? (and if he refuses, take him to court?)

1AZRAEL1
30th August 2010, 05:44 PM
If it was replaced recently by the landlord, he should have checked that it worked properly. And because it didn't, and you didn't know there was a problem with it, he is liable I think. You would need to speak to rent tribunals or someone like that to see what they say. IMO he would unlikely give you compensation, but you can always ask.

I'd suggest ask him about it first and if you don't get the response you want, seek legal advice.

I'd suggest ask him about it first and if you don't get the response you want, seek legal advice.

yeah i had a look online and i need to consult with the OCBA rent tribunals which i will have to do in the morning.

i finally accounted for everything missing and the total loss is $4000+ approximately. All those little things added up in the end! Which made me look at my Transformers collection and think 'damn this is giving me such a headache'

i'm now organising moving back into my mums home -_-
i was paying $150 per week (for 2yrs now) and i just cant afford to find a new place which would probably be $250+

f**k my life.

at the moment i dont know. there's a problem which i am having trouble figuring out how to handle.

the back door's doorknob/lock had been recently replaced by the landlord. what i discovered (after the robbery) is that even if you lock it from inside, it didnt lock properly.

which is why when i came home that night it was the only door that was open plus the gate behind it.

so what should i do?

ask for compensation from the landlord? (and if he refuses, take him to court?)

I would think he is liable because he didn't get a locksmith in to do it..the question I would of asked him, are you a qualified locksmith?

I would also try and contact the local tenancy tribunal/ombudsman in your state and find out where you stand because I would think he would have a case to answer...

Dos that mean we can all sue Hasbro for our plastic crack addicting? :p:p:p:p

and then Hasbro will need to start putting label on all toy saying that this will lead to addiction, then Transfomers will come in plain packaging, and after that, they will start to put them behind the counter out of sight of little kids. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

That's a really good point actually, I reckon it's worth a try and if you are leaving anyway, what do you have to lose?

As long as you have a police report number and stuff should be a goer I reckon. If the cops have come around and had a look, they could back up on the reaer entry option (in regards to the robbery that is):p:rolleyes:

How come when I look at ebay under the G1 section, there is a poop load of rotf and movie 1, Cybertron and many other toys that are plainly NOT g1 related, not even by name...?

What is with some people who buy things on ebay then dont contact you or give you feedback! If youve got time to buy youve got time to let the seller when you can pay etc!

I have had a constant issue with a certain buyer in perth, he has bought items several times but takes sooo long to pay or even let me know when he is going to pay! I dont mind waiting as long as they let me know.

Just a note - never had any other issues with buyers from perth :D

haha i have similar problems, i dont think it can be avoided.. other then refusung to sell to the buyer, put a clause in the listing, payment must be recieved within 7 days (unless arangements made) otherwise failure to pay blah blah blah

one thing that bugs me is when you buy something and pay instanly they dont leave feedback till after you have received the item and left feedback for the seller, now i just dont leave them feedback till they have left it for me paying promptly.....

i have probably had about 50 people fail to leave feedback over the years on eBay... it is still frustrating every time.

True, but its a buyers world, sellers can't leave negative feedback so most wait for + feedback to be recieved which is I think is fair. Some buyers leave negatives for really silly things so the seller doesn't want to give + feedback and then get a - feedback over something trivial. Ie slow postage after 1 day or item was bigger/smaller than expected.

i understand that but it should mean nothing if i win an auction and pay within ten minutes of it ending. Feed back should be left to reflect that i was paid promptly, and then they need to follow up on their service to receive positive feedback in return, its like your held to ransom.....

i delay feedback until I receive the item as a buyer. Coz I could never receive the item.
But I almost never get any feedback as a buyer until I give the seller feedback.

If I paid promptly, the seller should give me feedback right away and not wait until I give a favorable feedback before he/she gives one.

The seller is witholding feedback until the buyer gives feedback because some buyers are bastards and give negative feedback for trivial things. Or worse, claim they never recieved the item and file a dispute to get their money back thereby obtaining the item for free.

Yes some are. But most sellers withhold feedback.

if you look at the buyer feedback, you can see if they have had disputes in the past or claim stuff like that. I used to deposit money right away but because sellers don't post quickly and stuff could get lost in the mail and sent it thru regular post instead of registered or with insurance I got no protection.

Started using paypal especially for first time business. The next time, I'd probably trust him more but depends on the communication as well.

Some buyers also charge an exorbitant amount of postage but you can see what they actually paid for when you get the item postage cost stamped on the box. It's a beat up box and not brand new boxes so you can't say that the packaging cost money as well when you are just recycling stuff.

If your a buyer and theres no indication an item has been sent within a few days its easy enough to open a case - same with postage costs.

Plus buyers can see the sellers feedback left for others if they are concered they are not going to get any themselves.

Overall I would give overseas buyers top marks for feedbacks and rate australian buyers/sellers the worst. :(

it's just not worth the aggravation.

I got a hdd from dick smith and died less than 6 months. Returned the item to dick smith and they said I have to return it to manufacturer since they have 5 year warranty. My general understanding is that items bought from a store at least should have 1 year warranty or whatever. They don't divulge which items have that 1 year warranty from them.

I was hassled into posting the item in specific packaging so that it isn't damage during shipping. I have to send it to a warehouse in sydney who'll send it to singapore for analysis and a replacement. I have to trouble myself to look for specific packaging which wasn't what it originally came in.

I just said f$#@ it and just threw it in the bin :(

Should've just bought it online if I have to return a faulty item thru mail and worse it's overseas.

Agreed. It's got to the point now where I hate dealing with shops / sales people and try to avoid them if possible.

If I can buy the same thing online, then that's what I'll do.

It's a shame. Years ago it used to be a day out with the family walking around the shops, having lunch, and maybe going to the cinemas. The whole experience is now ruined by sales assistants that think that their shit don't stink and have an over-inflated opinion about themselves and what they do *points finger at Big W Rouse Hill*

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the mousepad's sensitivity within the Control Panel on the computer if that is what is bothering you about the Mouse pad. As for the space-bar, considering that you recently just got it I'd advise AGAINST trying to remove the space bar yourself to inspect what could be wrong because you might void your warranty and would recommend that you should first contact the manufactering company to see what can be done about it before sending the laptop off to the factory for warranty repairs which could take days...

Thats what I thought about the space bar as well. maybe I can put up with it until I have a decent break from uni.....

The mouse pad thing is just a general hate of this style methinks. My main peeve is trying to use the 'slide' option, when you slide your finger up and doen the side to scroll. Sometimes it goes and sometimes it dont, then sometimes it goes by itself... I think it still has some protector on it, which I can't get off, which may be hindering the usefulness somewhat.

Aside from that though, I think it's a fantastic little machine!

Was exiting a public car park today, stopped at the necessary stop sign point and then as I slowly edged the car out of the driveway at a very slow speed of less than 2km/hr as I could not see from where I was if another pedestrian was coming a couple then walked right in front of the car.

The woman, who looked like she burned through a packet of ciggies within the last 5 minutes and had sagged, dirt-rotten skin and feral, untamed hair glared at me with intense hatred and shook her head shamefully, muttering swearwords with a probable personal attack on my appearance. Her partner/son had no idea what was going on. Though I believe I didn't do anything wrong because I had to slowly edge my car towards the exit as I had no way of seeing oncoming side pedestrians, her reaction for an adult woman in her late 40s was just astonishing.

She's the worst of the bogan type, I don't hate bogans because I know a couple of friends who could be considered as bogans but they are actually very friendly people and value attitudes like modesty and working hard to earn what you want. But this woman was on the foulest end of the Bogan spectrum and though I won't go saying that I'll dare to run her over next time, I'll say this - Other people like me might slow down when going out of a carpark but next time you won't be so lucky you fiend!

Near my house there's a T-junction where most people turn left - it gets backed up because most people want to get into the right lane straight after.

One time I was stuck behind a couple cars, and there were another 5 cars or so waiting behind me. Then this idiot comes head first down the wrong lane to overtake all 5 cars & without looking, pulls in front of the first car in the que to turn left.

Clearly it's a busy street cause the first car was not gonna turn, and there is no field of view from 5+ cars back to see any oncoming traffic - I was in complete disbelief... just total luck that no innocents got hurt.

Whats the proper procedure for indication on a roundabout? When I learnt, ( I will use a right turn for demo purposes) you had to indicate right as you entered roundabout and then as you got to the exit you wanted you had to indicate left to get off. Is it still that? I don't see much indication at r/bouts.

yep u turn left its just like a normal turn
going straight ahead u jsut indicate left when u get of
going right indicate right then left at ur exit
but u first must have to pass the proceeding exits

also ur meant to indicate out of a parking spot when nose first but not when backing out. also out of driveways.

Whilst I've never had our IP Address flagged Big Penney, I know exactly what you mean when it comes to siblings that don't understand the necessity of Anti-Virus or truly understand how to Operate a computer.

I have a brother who used to be in PC Sales at JB Hi-fi and claimed that he knew all that there is to know about computers and how to Use them.
I can't count how many times I've had to fix/repair my family's computers and his computer due to his knowledge of computers , never does he learn though.
He wondered why when he transferred to a new store, he was given Camera Sales, I told him:
"Because there is a massive difference between Operating a computer and Using a computer, just because you sell them doesn't mean you know anything about them".
(He didn't take it lightly) :p

It was my brother, when he came home I asked him about it and he admitted that he had some viruses a couple of days ago and that he tried to install an anti-virus program but it wouldn't work and since then his computer hasn't worked.
So now he is going to do a full system reinstall and this time he will be putting on virus protection (finally ).

somewhere in that law it also states that pedestrians have to look for oncoming traffic and wait until a car is completley stopped before walking across access points and or pedestrian crossings.

most pedestrians think they have right of way.. when they have just as much responsibilty as a driver of a vehicle...

Compooper seems to be behaving itself now. On another note...

I have a 3 b/band usb thing for my little laptop and it has trouble uploading pics to my bloggerr account, photobucket is fine and I can log in and type in my blogger account. When at home I can load photos fine, just this usb thing wont. So I ring up the technical help line thing and tell them my problem.

After getting moved from place to place, I get some guy who I tell what the problem is. He tells me that he doesn't know how to upload pictures onto blogger accounts. I tell him I know how to, it just doesn't work due to the thumb stick thing. Again he tells me that he doesn't know how to upload pics to blogger, but he can help me transfer pictures from my PHONE to my computer.
WHAT? When did I magically get a phone with 3?

So I explain the process again, usb b/band thing doesn't load pictures to the Blogger account. He says he doesn't know how to load pics to blogger. I tell him I know, but the usb thing doesn't do it. He says he doesn't know how to load pics to blogger.
*sigh*

if you can upload pics to photobucket and not the blogger account, then it isn't the b/band that's causing your problem. Unless there's a max wait for uploading pictures and it's the slow speed of the b/band that's causing the problem. Either way, you cannot get around the upload speed issue of your network unless they can increase the upload speed.

Or maybe it's the size of your pics that's preventing upload to blogger???

I have issues sometimes of uploading pics to fb because my wireless b/band is so.... slow. That I give up before allowing it to finish the upload.

Pfft, I dunno. I managed to do one. usual pic size is about 300 KB, so not that large. I have just left it for about 10 or so minutes, I just write the post and do the pics when I get home. Oddly enough, I was waiting for it to do some when I was on the phone to the helpdesk and the pictures loaded up all right. After I got off the phone, I tried again with some other pics the same size and it wouldn't work. lol. FAIL

Nevertheless, the help desk was pretty craptacular, they had no clue. Where did they get the idea that I had a mobile phone? I never once meentioned that. Meh, whatever. It made me laugh a little bit though, so not all bad.

My cat was taught from a young age never to go anywhere near my Transformer room - and she never did.

Today while waiting at a pedestrian crossing light, this dude coming from the opposite direction is listening to his audio device (let's assume it's an iPod) and was just completely in a world of his own. He crossed the road even though the pedestrian light was still red and a car turning left braked just in time before hitting him. On another note I recently have been getting into the Left4Dead games on PC and just bought L4D2 on PC, but because the game has to update before I can play it and that I'm stuck on dial-up speeds for the next week or so I can't play it yet until it's done updating WHICH IS TAKING FOREVER!

DAMN YOU VALVE AND STEAM, as much I love your games your need to force us to update before we can play is vexing me!!!:mad::mad:

Got my internet speeds back and updating my games asap, damn if it takes a couple of hours to update 1 game at 100kb/s download these updates must be huge. DAMN YOU STEAM!!!!!

I'm with you mate, nothing worse than the anxiety you feel when watching an auction you really want to win and hoping you can get it for a reasonable bid and not be outbidded at the last second lol.

I was bidding on the Ultra Magnus Skywarp classics pack and lost to the 1 click bidding thing.

At the moment its already hard enough to find one misb that ships international and isnt $50+ shipping.

Automatic updates is good to keep certain components of your operating system up to date against the newest viruses which could attack them.

Java I believe is needed to surf the web (with mozilla i think, im not that big a computer person) and is also a frequent target of viruses, it also needs to be updated regularly for a better chance of not catching a virus.

If you can't find a solution, try approaching a very good thread that I approached to fix my computer - just took 2 weeks to solve at no cost but does require patience. It is called bleepingcomputer and is a forum where you talk to people who know what they're doing :)

I just watched Starship Troopers 3 after reading that it had gotten 'ok' reviews and wasn't a total loss.

After watching it, all I have to say is this: Was this movie made by the extremist religious right of America?

Starship troopers (The original) had a fun and clever tongue in cheek view of militarist fascism but this movie throws out that 'tongue in cheek' along with the 'fun' elements and just gives us pure and serious religious right propaganda which never figured in the previous movies.

The Right-wing religious extremism is actually pretty much IN YOUR FACE with crucifixes as symbols of a 'righteous' humanity and by telling us that other religious worship is wrong and should be exterminated type messages. It also adds some bits about about hanging those who practice free speech that goes against the religious right state. The movie also makes a very strong pro-war point with Christianity at the center of it clearly trying to justify the war in the middle east as religious one against another.

I just can't believe it. They even had uniforms with crosses and how it's justified to lie, murder and kill in the name of god. In several scenes they also had characters praying 'Our Father' and other christian payers and chants. Naturally the ones that didn't believe were the ones that died and the one who 'saw the light' was the one who ended up more richly rewarded and through a religious sacrament too.

This movie is so f***ed up that it makes me feel sad. I liked the Starship Troopers universe but it seems that this movie has hijacked it so it can preach extreme right christianity and 'real life' pro-war mentality.

How come no one has picked up on it, specially in it's wikipedia page? I am disgusted.

Because most people don't care about ST3 enough to pick up on it in the Wikipedia page. I've seen footage on the 'tube before of this movie and in comparison to the 1st, the special effects are worse despite years of technological advancement and the acting is spine-chillingly embarrassing.

Oh I too loved the T-X model Terminator concept - I just felt that the movie and it's execution as a whole was a dismal failure.
(Kristana Loken is freakin' Hawt!) :D

The ending was purely done that way to extend the possiblity of a sequel, which was in a way good because that gave us Salvation, which is leaps and bounds better than T3, but personally I prefer T2's ending and moniker:
"There is no fate, but what we make" - A better lesson than "Must milk franchise at all costs", IMO. ;)

Why does rent keep on going up when salary rates don't necessarily do so? :(

My simple yet unproven theory (well I don't know if it's been proven or not, just haven't bothered to done the research)

In these economic times, it's a dog eat dog world out there. People (especially execs/some owners/bosses) in an attempt to ensure their financial wellbeing are willing to raise the prices for everything so that they can make that extra dollar and don't have to share it with their coworkers (thus why salary rates don't increase). I had a discussion with my friend purely on a theorical scale and we noticed that in these times the rich are getting richer (CEOs and such) while the managers on the lower end of the corporations are getting paid the same rate/less. That's why in today's media the positions of being a CEO or some high-end executive are so glamorised because they're the type of jobs that can get you big $$$ which to most people = success.

I'm glad that Prime Directives addressed the strained relationship between Alex Murphy and James/Jimmy Murphy, how both of them finally forgave each other by the end of the series. When the original trilogies of movies ended I wondered whatever happened to Jimmy as he would have to grow up believing his father was dead but really he had become a shining knight in armour of Detroit. I found it interesting to wonder what a son would have to go through if he thought his father had abandoned him through death (even if it was unintentional) but really his father was a hero; a hero though that had to purposely deny remembering his family to prevent hurting them because he had become a machine. Though the acting was bad between the two characters in the series, I'm just happy that this concept was finally addressed to.

You know what's even worse? I have never seen the music video and I don't know what the singer looks like and I thought - 'I reckon the music video is going to have some blonde Caucasian woman with curly hair and bad makeup like the equally-as-annoying Cascada singing in some contemporary set with many dancers groping her body "sensually".'

And what was in the music video?
Exactly everything I had predicted LOL.

It's not that I hate these singers with passion and think that whatever I listen to is 1,000,000x better, it's that these singers and their songs are played AGAIN and AGAIN which bugs the hell out of me, sure you could tell me to just change the station and turn off the radio but I have to encounter these songs whenever I listen to Hamish and Andy on the radio while driving home!

I didn't mind California Girls when it first came out, but now everytime I hear it I GO BESERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

and people in high executive positions need to spend less - company car, expenses paid travelling, able to claim meals, entertainment expense, corporate rates for hotels, etc... and if they negative gear their properties, the get the difference back in tax (which lowers their taxable income, thereby making them possibly pay less tax!). :D

Much like the Scream, I Know What You Did..., Grudge, Ring and Saw franchises - to me these all fall into the comedy genre. :p:D
The original Japanese Grudge and Ring series were far superior to the US remakes though and are far more enjoyable. ;)

I must admit though, I liked both AvP Movies not for their scare factor, but because they had Aliens and Predators in them - so they were instant winners for me.

Wayen Rooney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Rooney). He plays(ed) for Manchester United, a club which spends more money in a year than the entire NRL and AFL combined. Some people see him as a 'bad boy', but a damn good footballer. T'is a shame that he's leaving Man U. :(

SharkyMcShark
20th October 2010, 01:24 PM
It's surreal - United's best player last season, the player they've built the side around and given the platform to be truly world class, and one that said as recently as March that he wanted a life contract at United, now wants to leave.

And has wanted to leave since before this season started - which predates the scandal in his private life breaking, and which predates (but explains) the poor form he's found himself in this season. I love Manchester United, I can't understand how someone would go from being fully commited to the club he's been at for 6 years in March, to wanting out in August, to forcing the managers hand by publically contradicting him in October.

Most United fans expected Ronaldo to leave when he did in 2009, but our great hope at the time, affirmed by the player, was that Rooney would be here for years and was just as good. Not so, apparently. To add insult to injury any money received will probably disappear into trying to pay off the owners 600 million debt, as opposed to buying a replacement.

My Netgear modem (yes I know it's craptacular) died last week (connection dropouts every 10 minutes). Got it replaced with another one which keeps dropping out of connection too ( but less frequently) on the first day of working. Thought it was a Bigpond error, so called them - they told me to call Netgar because nothing was wrong with their lines - I call netgear for help, they tell me to go to Bigpond.... ...FML about an hour of wasted phone time with no help on either end but my conclusions is that it's just netgear's crappy modem, judging by other 'colourful' experiences posted on the interwebs.

Thank heck I'm buying a 2wire modem from Telstra next week (same brand as my very 1st modem, I can trust it works but downside it dies after about 4 years of use). Just got to hold onto this piece of crap modem until next year where I can exchange it for a gift card to spend on something else useful...

Also a tip for any net users out there, don't buy your web hardware from DSE, I made a huge mistake doing that. I asked the people working there if the modems were good and they didn't know what they were doing apart from easily taking my $$$. That's also another thing to rant on while I'm here, what DSE is becoming - I went to my local one recently and asked for a Funway Electronics starter kit - the girl there had NO IDEA what I was talking about - Dick Smith Electronics eh? More like Dick Smith Cashsuckers...

I had a Netgear that kept dropping out every 45 minutes or so and managed to prolong its like by about a month by putting it in the freezer for about 10 minutes whenever it died.

I use a Netgear DG834g modem/router and don't get any dropouts. After about 2 years, the power cable fried itself somehow, but other than that it's been much better than the Billion and Alcatel modems i had beforehand.

Dick smith have been going downhill for years now. They are owned by the same bunch as Tandy (which have always been crappy IMO) and the two shops have been interchangeable for the last 5 years at least. Its almost getting to the point where they wo't even have circuit borads and fuses to buy. Just crappy rmote control cars and cheap (quality) electronics...

You can thank Woolworths for that, as they are the parent company of both Dick Smith and Tandy. :(

My Father went into Dick Smith a month or so ago to get some things, as he couldn't find them where they had been only a week prior, he was promptly told by a 17y/o staff member, quite obnoxiously, that Dick Smith hadn't stocked that sort of thing for months and that if he wanted it? go to Jaycar.

Woolworths has gone on record as saying it wants to compete with Harvey Norman in regards to Electronics - I guess they're gonna use Dick Smith to do it?, here I was thinking that maybe Big W was the most suitable - then I remembered that Woolworths wants to compete with Harvey Norman in White Goods too.

Did you know that Woolworths is also it's own insurance company?
(I shit you not, they are - so they can handle claims against them "Internally")

That's not unheard of though. Wesfarmers owns Coles, Target, Kmart, Bunnings, Officeworks and Harris Technology! Plus they too have an insurance division.

Indeed, it isn't unheard of though, IMO, being your own Insurance Company is quite questionable to be honest - it raises the question of who they're actually looking out for? ;)

Isn't it absurd how many businesses are under corporate umbrellas?, no wonder Australian consumers are starved for Retail Competition. :(

I have to laugh though when I hear people saying that they went to Harvey Norman, Joyce Maine & Domayne and found that all 3 stores had the exact same products for the exact same prices and still think that they are independent retailers. :p:D
