I have that book also and it's a great reference for anything G1. Plus it has lots of pretty pictures. A plus for me because I can't read the text :p).
Description from the auction...
The owner of Seibertron.com is getting married later this year so it's time to start selling some extra items to cover some wedding expenses

It's the same photos. What I suspect, and I could be mistaken, is that the producers of this copy scanned the Japanese version and then photoshopped Chinese text onto it. It's still a lot of hardwork and they did translate all the descriptions and text though.
But in anycase, its still a very good reference for G1 and G2 and about half the price of the Jap version. :D

Transformers Generations - Chinese version (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170516357772)
Not has good as the Japanese version (see Heroic's comments below) but a cheap alternative if you can't find an original version.
Thats the one I have, its basically the same except in the text of course and is missing some concept art ( a few pages) but yeah still really good:D I think Ill buy one more if there's still some by payday...thanks for the find Paulbot!

I just saw that, and came to post about it...
It's my most saught after toy, but can't afford it at US$800+ at the moment.
It's a legit BotCon version too.
I will be interested to see how much it sells for though.
This year's botcon Breakdown toy is gonna increase interest in this old toy now. A toy that very few people would have known or cared about before this year. :(

to each their own.
Overlord commands very high prices these days, so personally i would feel sick if i had to pay so much money for something and it was damaged. Even if the part would hold in position, i'd still have a nagging feeling. that nagging feeling would take me over to ebay to chase down a replacement part, that replacement part costs a bundle atm.
it would definitely be better if the broken part was also included and you can fix it.

Its a private listing sale, man. The seller posted it up so his intended buyer just has to click in his agreed to price and then the sale ends. Iver done it before with some of the sellers Ive made deals with just so I can remain protected ( well sorta) since they'll be bound to deliver the service and its via Paypal, and they win by having me oput a good ol feedback added in their rep. Plus it develops a dedicated buyer - seller relationship - in Filo terms "suki"- someone who buys from you all the time instead of going to your rival sellers.
Although now that I have a look at the seller - ZERO feedback, hmmm scam alert!!

It's still there, and the reason it's a private listing is most likely so the seller can shill bid to get even more money from a scam auction.

I think a lot of these customizes projects suffer from what I describe as excessive use of brush-work-paint-look. I don't see enough custom projects where the creators have taken the time to use an airbrush to get better finishes on their creations.

I'm just very worried for the unsuspecting new collector. What if he/she buys a piece thinking its authentic G1 and its not but not knowing. Then he/she would think, 'hey, this is pretty crap quality. G1's not so great after all.' That would be a real pity and an injustice to G1.

I can't get over how fricken gullible some people are. The auction is currently sitting just over US$100 and there is still a day to go.
Wish I could contact these people and let them know it's not that 'interesting and strange' (which TFW (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/featured-ebay-auctions-32/featured-ebay-auction---oversized-g1-soundwave-knockoff-170695/) would lead everyone to believe). It's available from an online store that is well known for selling KO's - and it retails for approx. US$15!

It's a pity that TFW is frontpaging the KO as news, to give it even more support, despite it being a toy that has recently been available (and is a regular candidate for reissues, so can expect to see it again during the next reissue series).
I can understand the interest though, as it would be perfect size for a Masterpiece collection, rounding out the main first year Gen1 Decepticons.

Other than the series 1 and 2 Autobot cars (with a yellowed Ratchet to boot), that's a pretty pathetic lot and not something I'd classify as a MIB/MISB lot. Many of the unboxed figures appear incomplete too.

I don't think its hard because the guy is actually in Japan. Battle Gaias and Guard Cities are actually not uncommon but he'd have to fork out close to US$900 to buy it in the first place. So he's only actually making a return of US$200, my guess anyway.

What's most ridiculous is that it has a loose grade of U90, which means that someone sent AFA a MISB Twin Twist, then AFA took it out of its packaging just to put it straight into their plastic packaging.

The unfortunate thing is that due to all the dumb asses that pay premium for AFA graded products, it is now more profitable to remove the TF from a sealed 'age worn' box and send it to AFA for grading.
Personally, I don't understand why anyone would want a loose AFA graded toy. I can somewhat understand why an MISB collector would want a graded boxed toy. But the final cost defeats the purpose of it from anyone who wants it for their collection and not for re-selling.
Also what are AFA's qualifications when it comes to grading toys? If such an expensive service cannot tell the difference between a G1 Bumblebee and a Clifjumper figure then how can I trust them to produce the right grading?

I have a strong feeling that my childhood Topspin did in fact come with a 1984 catalogue. I'm sure most of them did come with an '85 one, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this Twin Twist's paperwork from his MISB-emancipation-straight-into-an-acrylic-prison being legit. (In fact, if one wanted to 'fake' something like this, wouldn't one use a 1985 catalogue, since it's more logical that he would come with the catalogue he's actually featured on?)

That's the sort of price that piece goes for.
It is NOT a repainted Classics/Henkei Sideswipe, but if you read the auction description, it is the unassembled and sealed BotCon custom class model kit. This is seriously rare because not more than 50 were given out (more may be made, I don't know) and people who attended the custom class would have opened it and tried to built the Sideswipe. A sealed sample would originally have to have come from someone who (1) attended BotCon 2010; (2) managed to register/attend/fight his or her way into the custom class, which itself only has limited places and is one of the many activities going on at BotCon; (3) grabbed a kit; (4) resisted opening it when everybody else is tearing the thing apart; and (5) went and also gotten the custom decal sheet.
I know some "Holy Grail" collectors over at TFW 2005 to have paid approximately US$1000 for the sealed kits (but then, these are also the people who has a few Grand Maxes, a few Galaxy Shuttles, the entire G1 US run MIB and so on...).
Personally, I am not concerned about collecting something like that, but it is truly rare and the price is also likely to rise further.

On another note, just the notion of multiple of galaxy shuttle or grand max sends shivers down my spine- I don't know their cost but I'd imagine they are hefty.
The nature of these collectors' collections is somewhat beyond the realms of reason or belief (pick one). Multiples of rare Japanese pieces (same guy above also has like 3 Minerva - one loose, one MIB, one MISB, etc), MIB US G1 and AFA graded pieces of the entire 1984 to 1985 line (excepting Megatron for obvious reasons). And this is just one guy. Another guy has the entire G1 Japanese run, all MISB, all AFA graded. Now imagine there are another 70+ collectors like him (cos that's the size of that invite only group, which I'm a part of but a small potato to be sure).

Wow!....
I've always been aware as to the existence of this type of collector, but now that I've got a much firmer grasp and understanding of collecting...
My mind boggles at these guys as surely their resistance to temptation, determination in procuring, diligence in handling and their ability to throw huge sums of their earnings into their passion, is truly astounding!
I've the utmost respect and amazement in your approach to collecting Heroic, but from what you've described above mate - these guys are on a completely different level huh?
I believe this falls into the Rare and Cheap categories, at least as of late anyway:

Nice. Pity that the customiser didn't do something about the front wheels to change them into tracks or something. I wouldn't be 100% satisfied with this piece if I bought it.

I found one of those at an independant last month (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=190378&postcount=65), and bought it a few weeks later.
The entire contents (other than the figurines at the top), are located in a small compartment at the base - 3/4 of that big box is hollow.
The figurines are probably the best bit of that set, as the games themselves are pretty ordinary. The only original game in there is actually quite confusing and frustrating. Christalcase and I tried it out, and there are so many flaws in it, we couldn't finish it...
It's a nice novelty item, for the figurines and Optimus box, but don't pay too much for it if you don't have REALLY young kids to play with the contents.

One of the usual Greek ebayers (http://shop.ebay.com/donkix2000/m.html)is selling a heap of Gold-packed figures and Euro Actionmasters. Not cheap though, which is expected from someone who is chasing the really small US collector market who fight over those sort of rare figures - very rare globally, but very very low demand... if they went to auction with low starting prices, most wouldn't fetch much, or anywhere near his starting prices. But if they are the only figures listed, some desperate collectors will still pay.

This guy in HK (http://myworld.ebay.com.au/toyspark/) often has some cheap prices, but shipping and postage looks to be a little high though to make up for it. Still works out to be comparable to RK, for anything you might have missed out on there.
He's been around since Armada in 2002 (I think he might be the one I bought most of my Armada toys from, when they weren't being reliably released here).
But be aware, that he has been known to 'spam' customers by email of new releases, after he has your email from a purchase.

Yes. Not that I have the cash to bid on that auction now, knowing full well what the price may end up being. I have recently watched a few key eps of the Japanese Headmasters which fueled a decision to want a fort-max. MAster Sword and all. I have been seriously considering getting a Fort-Max next year, leaving me some time to budget towards it. But this statement just made me re-evaluate this goal.
The guy is Awesome, no doubt, biggest, bad-ass and to me, the ultimate bot- Just seeing how small metroplex is next to him just took my breath away- but is he really worth it for prices commanding up to and over 1k?
Even Brave Max is morbidly expensive on Ebay- not that I have looked enough- just based on 1 search. Not even going to start on spike or cerebros prices.
"Overly expensive..." is a valid point.
Sadly, the barriers to owning fort max or rarer g1s is ridiculous now.
I echo many fans' sentiments for a reissue- I might even join the dark side if an eventual high quality KO reissue is released.

He is damn expensive, but not unattainable. Took me a long while to get one, and I am missing a number of the small accessories. Still cost me a fair bit, I think $850 all up, but my one was bone white. Looking at that one in the auction, he is pretty badly discoloured.

Yeah, Fort Maxes have just reached crazy heights in terms of prices. Even in HK, they're selling for HKD$20K + for one in a shit box and is yellowed.
Being one of the key pieces in 1987, I do highly getting a Fort Max. It's a very awesome toy if you have HOCs, SCFs or WSTs to go with it - truely a veritable city. gdmetro, maybe this will further sway you. (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/06/c-114-fortress-maximus-starring-in.html)
Mind you, I paid a lot of money for my C-114 MIB (C9.5 box, toy, stickers, complete paperworks and complete inserts). It's a really key piece to me, so I just gotta have the best. Also, I didn't want the nightmare of having to hunt for parts. Master Sword is still obtainable, but the master sword (the small black one for cerebros) is nigh impossible to find loose.
This is my C-114, which I paid AU$1800 for in 2007. (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/07/headmasters-c-114-fortress-maximus-mib_03.html) Shocking I know. But I don't regret it, yet. :D

In comparison to today's prices HD I think you got a steal there. That is truly an exceptional piece (don't think the box is C9.5 condition though :p)

Hmmm... I thought its still considered expensive even against today's prices?
Sorry, I was a little loose when calling the box C9.5. I know there are visible creases on some of the edges, but there is just no avoiding these things because of the relatively flimsy composition of the box and the size and weight of Fort Max. Unless someone is very very careful, he/she is almost bound to add creases to the box in one way or another when handling it. Even when I was a kid, I never really saw a Fort Max (or C-114) box that can be considered factory fresh. The very act of removing it from the carton and moving it will crease the box faces and cause flaying near the box edges...

I love that diorama base!
That is a sweet Fort Max- That master sword is GIGANTIC!!! - Doesn't make my decision any easier :D
And what is that? $20K + HKD? Isn't that like over $2500 AUD? WOW..
That is beyond Ebay price especially for yellowed ones.. even $1.5K would be too much. What are those guys smoking?
Side note:
HD- love your blog- just read your "origin story" - amazing mate. Loved the ravage and rumble story. :D

And they're still sold. It's these insanely well-off mainland Chinese that buy them. I just saw another C-114 MIB today. Bet you it'll be sold by this time next week.

This might give you a better idea of just how big (if you own a Scorponok to scale it off against)(scroll to end of post). (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2010/06/masterforce-d-311-black-zarak-mib-part_28.html)

Not in the condition yours is in. You'd be able to ask a lot more these days (if you were to sell it :p)
