Gahhhhh. Anyone want to give me $1000?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400599915659?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

No!

If I had a spare grand I'd buy it for myself:D

How is Brawn so close behind him or why is Windcharger wearing Brawn's backpack?

The question I want to know is why is Windcharger wearing Brawn's backpack in this cell??

Edit: Never mind I just found out he's a cross dresser among other things :D

Simplest answer, it's a from a season 1 episode so mistakes go without saying ;) (though to be fair it was one of the better animated eps)

In that scene Brawn was crouching behind him but it appears they forgot draw his head/shoulders. I guess it is kinda a gip paying that much for a cel with a mistake on it. Still tempting though, Windcharger was my favourite as a young rippersnapper.

I didn't know that people could just delete their auctions from ebay :eek::mad: I was bidding on a Dragons Crown Sorceress figure, I had been the only bidder through the whole thing and was looking at getting this usually $80-$90 figure for like $10! Then with about 19 hours to go the seller just got rid of the auction completely. Considering they had like zero ratings feedback maybe it was their first auction or something so just deleted their whole account, buggered if I know since I cant remember their name. Stiil pissed off though! Does this kind of thing happen often because it's never happened to me before?

There should be something in your bid history or an email confirming the bid?

I've had the same thing happen a few times - looking to win something really cheap because no one else saw it or was interested in it... and the seller suddenly cancels all bids and removes the item from ebay, only to relist it within a few days and hope to get a better price for it.
It doesn't happen as much now, because of how easy it seems to be to shill bid to drive up the winning price (either through another account they set up, or with the help of a friend to prevent ebay from shutting them down).

Some sealed and AFA'd G1 pieces including the Cassettebots Noizu, Gurafi and Zauru from seller Specimen-17.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/specimen-17 (http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?item=111437894490&hash=item19f237535a&pt=US_Action_Figures&_ssn=specimen-17&_sop=15)

I threw in some bids on a few merchandise items, but they got hammered in the last few hours... so didn't win anything. The bids were less than they were obviously worth, but I'm only interested in their novelty value, and am not desperate for them, so didn't have a chance.

I missed seeing this one though, as it was a Buy-It-Now that must have sold fast, but I saved the photos to my archives - the Stars Base mailaway kit (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-G1-S-T-A-R-S-STARS-Base-Mailaway-Complete-w-Posters-amp-Packaging-/371134779658?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item56695b510a&nma=true&si=XiBmr%252Fwq7iZLZcjW5aBQWnJAGWQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557).
A holy grail of a few long time fans, including me, because I had one and lost it during a move. :(
Don't know if I would have paid AU$400+ for a new one though... but they would be rarer than most Transformers toys.

Not sure if he's sold all of them now, but the current ones listed are all KOs... that are interesting to look at.

man, I didn't think it would sell at that price, especially with the stain on the packaging. I'm pretty sure that wasn't all of jgons collection - maybe just the ones that didn't sell privately.

I saw it when it was live, and thought it was an insane Buy It Now It Now price for used cardboard and paper - the kid had even filled in the membership card. Apparently someone really wanted a S.T.A.R.S. Command Centre.

It's the same person who's been selling the G2 Stunticons and prototypes... and he's relisted the Breakdown for a third time (with bids up to $600 already in less than a day).
Not sure why he keeps cancelling the listing, but claiming an "error in the listing" is what I've had on items that I was winning very cheaply - the seller cancels the auction at the last minute, claiming there was an error so that he can get another week of bidding.

Scaaaaam....

He's a good guy, and well known in the global fandom (Andrew Hall), who worked at Ehobby in Japan for a while with the bios and fiction for their exclusive Transformers. I don't think he is there anymore though... but has been at almost as many BotCons as me.
He even registered here some time ago.

I can sorta understand someone breaking up a rare toy like that if it isn't mint & complete enough to sell as a whole. Selling the parts separately might help 3 or 4 people complete theirs without having to buy a whole new toy.

Did all the Black Zarak listings disappear? They don't show up on his completed listings.
He's been selling a lot of the Gen1 decoys in the last couple months... and the JP redeco of the Battle Patrol (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micromaster-1st-Edition-Battle-Patrol-Variant-Zone-/191245738169?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2c872260b9&nma=true&si=XiBmr%252Fwq7iZLZcjW5aBQWnJAGWQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557). Yeah, that's one of the parts I saw yesterday with 18 hours to go... but none of them are showing up when I look up his completed listings (on the side menu).
I even removed the .au in the address and they still don't show up (sometimes items listed on ebay US don't show up on ebay AUS).

I wanted to see what some of the parts sold for, but I can't see them.

The Black Zarak double-barrelled guns went for AU$21
The Black Roritchi gun went for $30
The headmaster head (with the ironically broken black plastic) went for $35
The radars went for $40
The ramps went for $40
The Black Roritchi arms went for $45
The shields went for $48
The lift went for $50
The big gun went for $52
The spear went for $117
The body went for $377

Only about $900 then... he would have made more selling as one lot with the box (which he also had).

They probably do - I haven't seen too many for sale, so can't think of any final prices off the top of my head.
The custom class toys are a bit like Lucky Draw toys... but I think are more in demand if it isn't built, because a built toy can be more like a customised figure if the person had painted.

There shouldn't be any bagged copies in circulation though. I get really dark on people that go to things like that just to take the figure and leave and then resell. that is not the purpose of the class.

Yes, there is that... :p

But for someone to be so dedicated to hunt down all the Kreo stuff, which has been hit-and-miss in pretty much every country (even America)... I don't think there would be too many people who have a complete set. Even I'm still missing a couple of the newest sets that were only released in the last month, because I'm not THAT dedicated to spend 3-4 times the retail price plus postage, just to get something as soon as it appears somewhere in the world. This guy obviously was, right up until about a week or two ago, based on certain sets in the collection.
That makes me wonder what would be more important (in his mind), to suddenly give up like that, as it must have been something serious. It's like someone collecting all of the first four years of Gen1, to then suddenly sell the lot a week after completing the collection.

I want it to complete the GTR shelf, but not that much to pay more than $20-50 for it... especially since it was a free toy at a charity event, so any amount is still profit for them, so I can't justify giving more than I think it is worth.

$189 including shipping seems a good deal, assuming the seller is legit.

Welcome!

As far as I know there isn't a KO MP13 Soundwave (though other members please correct me if I'm wrong). There are KO cassettes though, a KO MP10 and some of the smaller MP cars like Sideswipe. Plenty of info online on how to spot these.

Of the 3 sellers you listed, I've bought from the second one Toy_Story_World. As I'm not a MISB collector, I haven't had an issue but just be wary that his packaging is hit or miss. I got an MP12G which arrived in perfect condition but also bought a Dark Guard Optimus (Prime series) which looked like it was sat on. Figure was fine though.

Someone is selling some of the recent Generation Deluxe and Voyager toys. They aren't in their packaging so I don't know if they include the comic or just have the figure (I'm really only after the figure), and the only Voyagers are Roadbuster and Whirl. Arcee is also there which is intresting. I checked the pics and while I'm not 100% sure if they are legit (they look pretty legit to me but then again they could be HQ KO's which is would be pretty amazing)

It actually might be a clearance thing or something as most of the items are on bid for 99c (There's also some MP Megatrons, a few alternators and a bunch more stuff there as well)
I hope it's the real deal, because if it is, then I got a massive bargain for that Crosscut figure I just won ($10.80!)

I never knew about that. Still, it's good for a bargain

Now on the opposite side of the price range, here's something that is confusing me to it's expensiveness:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Botcon-2012-custumizing-class-exclusive-LONGARM-unassembled-kit-/261621856633?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3ce9e0b979

And just to prove how expensive it is (and confused I am), here is how much it costs for an assembled one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1263-Transformers-BOTCON-2012-CUSTOM-CLASS-GLASS-LONGARM-Jazz-shockwave/261558115180?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D27538%26meid%3Dfc5cccd6d1b04842966b208b756f d18e%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D11353%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3 D6%26sd%3D261621856633&rt=nc

[Edit]: Apparently it's expensive because it's rare to find an unassembled figure, despite the fact you could just buy an assembled one and disassemble it. And the fact that it isn't complete makes the expensiveness more ridiculous.

Botcon Customizing Class Shockwave/Longarm was originally only sold through the customizing class and on its sprig tree (http://www.collecticon.org/2012/04/botcon-2012-customizing-class-day-1-shattered-glass-longarm-shockwave-is-awesome/), from my understanding. I've seen that figure on eBay for up to $1200 during its peak hype period in 2012, but the prices has dropped dramatically since then. Unassembled customizing class figures may be arguable seen as more valuable, as you have no idea of the skill level of the assembled figure's previous owner, but the price of that first link is outrageous. $200 is probably a much fairer price.

toyssir is a known seller of factory prototypes, so his listing for an assembled and packaged Shockwave/Longarm may indeed be assembled by Hasbro staff, and arguably better quality of assembly that your average collector.

OK never mind I figured it out. Cost of shipping decreases slowly to the point that if you buy 6 the shipping for each is about US$14. So even if we get 6 the cost saving isn't really enough once you factor in forwarding costs from Sydney to wherever or even picking up from Sydney to save $20.

For anyone looking for last minute ideas for the 20% off ebay discount offer, I have a number of items listed now (http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/griffin-of-oz), with most being BotCon toys.

I took photos of about 200 items I have spare and wanted to list them on ebay for the sale, but it takes so long to do it all, and I'm wasting too much time on people buying things that they either aren't eligible for or bought by "accident"... which I then have to open up a resolution case to cancel it and then relist the items.
And when you take into account the added or included postage, plus any paypal/ebay fees, I see that it isn't any point listing any of my items that are under $30, or items that have such little demand that they don't sell on ebay for anywhere near their retail price.

So I listed 34 items, and the 6 that have sold are mostly the ones that were likely to make me profit, as I was surprised at how high they are selling on ebay, and still didn't price as high. Most of the other 28 are items that don't make much profit on ebay in terms of secondary prices, which leaves me with all the cheaper items left that I won't bother wasting time listing as they would have to lose a lot of money just to sell. Those items will be posted up in our saleyard some time later.
I think ebay is for scalpers and for sellers of collectable items that surge in value when released.

That's the problem with ebay, there is no incentive to list at a price that will sell, or penalty for listing at crazy prices, because you only get charged when it sells.
The knock-on effect of that is when you have someone list something at an excessively high (but not crazy) price, and then other people start listing at that price falsely assuming that it is the current value, because they see the active listing prices instead of the "sold" listing prices. (the European Actionmasters used to be a good example, as people would sit on them for years at crazy prices thinking that "rare" ALWAYS equals "valuable")

I'm not sure if this is applicable on eBay, but sometimes on Amazon larger sellers will have certain algorithms in place to automatically adjust their prices, for example so that their items is always 5% lower than the most expensive one, or 10% higher etc. Sometimes two different sellers offering the same item will engage in an automated pricing war as the two algorithms keep updating the price and battle with each other. There's usually a limit on how low the price will go, but perhaps not for how high it can go. ;)

That is so amazing.
And explains the often odd pricing of Amazon's own items, which sees discounts on only specific items within a wave, or significant discounts on new items that are actually in enough demand to be able to sell at full price.

That could be why they are losing so much money, even though they would look to be making a lot out of listing fees and handling fees of stock they sell on behalf of others.

I wonder if it could be manipulated, by setting up dummy businesses (with a name and description that puts people off risking a purchase from them) that lists new items for significantly less than Amazon prices, which forces Amazon to automatically sell at matching prices... and have people buy the Amazon priced-item before the dummy business is removed and Amazon's prices revert to normal.

Yes it is. C-888 on the packaging is the indicator for the Knock Off.

I almost bought one at BotCon several years ago before I knew of that number, so I then had it in bold lettering on my wantlist to make sure I didn't get stung later.

The real number on a real box is C-348. (I found it easier just to remember NOT to buy 888).

(the seller does have a very vague description that could mean that he is aware that it is a "reissue", but it isn't very clear... and uses the word "vintage" in the title to make people think it is the original 1980s release  )

Some of the rarest Japanese transformers here. Pitty he doesnt want to sell them, considering his prices. Does he just want to show off he has them?

All of them are a bit scummy as well, if someone in Australia has all those Japanese exclusives they know exactly what going on.

I don't think we do have at least one of everything in Australia at the moment, after HeroicDecepticon left with a gold-mine of rarities.

We had a topic somewhere about who has what, but we didn't keep track of who actually has what... so as people left the country or left the fandom (sold off their items), that old topic is "out of date".

It's something I've been meaning to re-do, in a way that keeps track of how many of each we have, by way of knowing who has the more obscure and rare items throughout the Brand (not just the Japanese ones).
I'll see if I can whip up something this weekend, and see how, or if, the idea works.

Remember when eBay was fun? And exciting? I do. I have fond memories of logging on each afternoon after school and looking through all the new listings.

On eBay Australia, there are over 15,000 items listed in the 'Transformers and Robots' section. That should be great news. But it's not. Of that large number, only 400 are actual auctions.

It's just not the same.

I too used to love the excitement and thrill of ebay auctions in the late 90s... bidding on stuff and counting down the days, hours and minutes to its end, and often having to wake up and go online first-thing, just to look at the results because most ended on US times.

Then the sniping programs started spoiling the fun. Sure, people would say that you should have bid that higher amount to begin with... but most of the time you start out bidding low or with a "comfortable" price (that you'd be really happy about if you win) to see how an item is likely to do or how much competition you have. Then if it was something you wanted more than other items, THEN you might put more of your total funds into a select few items, offsetting the items you get cheap or miss out on. You basically go a little above the "comfortable amount" on one or two priority items if a bidder was at your heals or just out-bid you with a few hours to go. The sniping tools didn't give you that chance. Suddenly I was now the only bidder on a lot of auctions until the last five seconds, and then miss out on items that I probably would have been willing to go an extra $5-$10, just in case the other bidder had their limit close to mine.

Then the ebay fees changed, which led to a shift of listing items to high-price BINs, that would only incur a fee when they sell, so sellers would sit on ridiculous priced items for months and years until someone REALLY desperate or really stupid buys it... ultimately earning ebay more money as a result.

From my short experience as a seller this year after almost 10 years since my last sale items, I just don't think you can make money off items, both auction or BIN, that you didn't get cheap or aren't rare/in huge demand. As such, I don't blame people for not listing things as auctions (which are big risk for both common and rare items), as the added postage costs will put off some people from bidding as much, while free shipping and ebay fees will require a higher starting bid price, which will also put off people.

Yes, many a times i had to set my alarm for 'ridiculous O'clock in the morning' and use my dial up internet to bid on an item. Of course, using dial up, there was always the chance it would disconnect just before placing that last crucial bid and whilst it was reconnecting.....the auction ended:( I also remember being in various bidding wars with others, until someone said to me "why dont you snipe?" Even though it is frowned upon by others, sniping really is the only way to bid anymore!

I don't get sniping, I mean you've still got your maximum bid, sniping is not going to change if someone wants it more than you. I've waited to the last few seconds a few times and usually it doesn't end well, either the connection refreshes to slow or ebay decides it wants my login again. Once I decided to wait and the seller pulled the item due to inactivity and sold it elsewhere :(

A fools game, your are just as likely to be shilled in the last few seconds. If someone wants it bad enough they will still beat you no matter if you bid early or late. Auctions ideally should just auto extend if anyone bids in the last few minutes.

I'm a big fan of the sniping tactic and proud to admit it. One of the main advantages for me is that it will stop me from bidding higher due to the 'need to win' mentality. Yes it sounds stupid that some part of you will keep bidding out a desire to be the 'Winner' but yes that has come over me before in my younger days...

By sniping it means that I will input my max bid I am willing to make and prevents me from bidding any higher as I snipe in the last 5 seconds only. A good way of preventing me from having buyers regret. Sure I miss out on things occasionally but I am much happier missing a few than regretting how much I spent.

Right, you're bidding in the allocated time - its likely you just won at the current market price or you just valued it higher than others. At the end of the day if no one else gives a crap and someone wins by bidding in the last second or the first day then its still a win.

yeah but as Raider pointed out the "need to win" mentality comes into it. Or people will extend how much they're willing to pay for it. Either driving your winning price up closer to your max bid, or requiring you to increase your max bid.

As Raider points out, by submitting a bid last second, it becomes more of a blind auction and you don't get the urge to go over your rationally thought out max bid.

Ebay should have a blind auction option, where bidders submit the amount they're willing to pay within the allotted time and at the end the highest amount wins, and the bidder must pay that amount - regardless of how much the next highest bid was.

What you have 100% win ratio on ebay!! Last time I didn't win with the early bid tactic was on the G1 trainset - two people sniped at the end and paid over $150 - they cared about $100 more than me :D

Nope still don't get that "need to win" or the "buyers regret" mentioned earlier, IMO that just says something more about the person bidding than anything else.

your opinion is correct.. it does say more about the person bidding.

However in order to protect yourself from such bidders, you place a last second bid so that they don't have time to react/kick in, and the opposing bidder places a bid at an amount that they wouldn't usually bid at.

I'm not saying that it will happen all the time. You're correct, if someone is genuinely willing to pay more than you, you will lose the auction regardless. However the off times where someone may be pushing up the price with "revised" max's after thinking about it for a while and convincing themselves of the products new worth will be negated.

On the flip side, if you have a set max. in mind and keep to it. What are the benefits of getting your bid in early? The only one that comes to my mind is the order of preference if an opposing bidder matches you. I steer clear of round numbers, and bid a couple of dollars over the round number I had in mind (eg. 251.50 instead of 250).

Anyways.. to each their own.

Usually I watch an item and bid a nominal amount below my intended max to register my interest. Then in the last couple of minutes I put in my intended max bid.

rodent
17th December 2014, 06:18 PM
Just treat it as a blind auction. If everyone just put in the maximum amount they were willing to pay for it, then snipers wouldn't even come into the equation.

I've always sniped auctions, and have lost as many as I have won by doing so because the winning bidder had wisely put in a higher amount long beforehand.

The alternative is a mechanism like Graysonline where the auction keeps being extended by 20mins everytime a new bid comes in. Great for sellers, but far less attractive (and more tedious) for the buyer to follow.

I agree. If they are sold separately, more will go straight to fans/collectors without a markup of an investor just wanting to flip it at collectors' expense.

There was material made back in the day for parents to use for this sort of thing. A few years ago I was thinking of getting some so I could have some themed curtains for the TF room, but couldn't find anything decent. I put it on the list of "coulda been good" ideas.

Really?!? Draw string bags were big in the 80's, I had one made for all my joe accessories, actually there are G1 curtains..... another thing to look out for ;)

179 pieces at what 150 each on average minimum? So 26,850 minimum I'd think.

3 and a half days left and over $27,000!!

That's a great winning price! I'd consider it for that.
I have looked at the shipping cost from the US and the shipping box weight for the set put through the USPS postage calculator came up at about $95 I can't remember if it was AU$ or US$ but it was a few months ago before the dollar completely tanked so you can expect it to cost at least $110.

Nah, i've had bigger heavier come recently, with express was only 80.

The website doesn't give you the cheapest options either, you gotta fiddle and get the standard delivery option.

What dimensions did you try? (If you remember)

Matt did post photos of this collection awhile ago, I was hoping that he was going to sell this individually, maybe this might happen if the reserve is not met.

This Beast Wars Lot in Australia (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321640223506?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) has me salivating, but I don't bid on such things anymore.

Hehehe... certainly close enough to probably be someone you knew.

Not just Beast Wars either. There are a lot of nice older accessories and a decent looking Clench there, which could be worth a fair bit on the global market if complete or unbroken.
The Rattrap on its own is worth a fair bit these days, as one original toy from the main cast that didn't get a 10th Anniversary reissue... so is one of the rarer, more valuable BW toys.

Lol!

Nice find, would love to get my hands on that Clench (of course I go for the one non-BW transformer there :p )

What sort of value are we talking, I have multiple of him in storage, just missing missiles  One with no stickers and the other with them put on pretty crummy.

Admittedly, Pyro is the one that sells for more of the two due to its gold plastic syndrome waist-joint, but a search on ebay shows Clench recently selling for US$70-120 loose. (one sold for just US$12... possibly because it had no description and just one photo)

There isn't a huge demand for the European TFs, but those people are the more hardcore collectors who will fight more for those loose ends... which might explain why one sold so cheaply, if it wasn't noticed by enough fans at that time.

Cheers for that info. I'll have to go dig them out and see how they are. I miss my Pyro :( I remember opening him for Christmas when I was like 6 or 7 I think  Geez, long time ago.

Pyro was officially the last transformer my parents ever bought me as a kid, and I LOVED it. Almost squeed with excitement when i saw his back half sticking out of a box of loose bots in a store nearby but alas, it was only his back half :-(

That g1 lot went for 45100$ by the way.
