The thing is, I am very tempted to bid on this lot, since, I'm completing my animated collection at the moment, but I'm going to have a hard time taking it if there has actually been shill bidding.

I have been in contact with the seller, and even have the dimensions of the boxes the lot is in so we can figure out the cheapest postage to Sydney from perth.

I agree, however one thing intrigues me...why would a recent issue fake gift set such as this have sticker wear of that nature (although it's only slight)? The toys themselves (if you can visualize them without the stickers) look a bit TOO clean...It could be that he's discovered this and he's been stooged and is trying to offload it. The informed buyer will know what it really is however.

For those wanting a REAL Defensor giftset (and don't mind differing languages), I've seen some sealed Greek ones going for a relatively fair price floating around on eBay. I think 700-800 will do it. Not bad at all for a sealed giftset!

This whole issue is why I buy Japanese versions, because I KNOW I'm safe with them :) JP Edition fakes would be considerably more trouble to produce me thinks

I would say that they are worth considerably more, given that a KO release is coming. These are some of the coolest cassettes released, and you probably wouldn't want to have to chase after an afa graded version to get a genuine minty fresh :) Plus, I've heard stories of them grading loose pieces that are KO.... This auction should be agenuine one, later ones may not.

I agree about spittor being more rare, I've seen one on ebay uk in the last year and the seller wouldn't ship outside of the uk. There has probably been more I just haven't seen them

The G2 Jazz had a small peg hole in the car roof to hold the larger missile launcher in it. That would be the only major difference between the G1/G2 versions that I can remember, unless the Stepper/Ricoche retool meant a new G1 Jazz needed to be made again?

i dont know if these are as rare as he says they are but for that price you could nearly get an AFA boxed dinobot. I think id prefer to invest in that than a prehistory animal :confused:

heh I didnt read the description - for a private sale but on auction sites like ebay $800 I think would be about right for that type of condition (if it is indeed C9/9.5 ish). Prices for some japanese boxed items seem to have jumped again in the last 2 months or so. Best bet is always private deals ;)

I won this auction for a pound and was the sole bidder, Auction ends and 5mins later I get an email from the Seller telling me he's lost the lot and wants to cancel the transaction. :mad:
He states that he realised that they were missing only after the '12 hours to go' window had closed and was unable to cancel the auction and that I was welcome to pay for the win on the off chance he might find them again. :confused:
I proposed a 24hr period where he could perform a thorough search for the paperwork before we move forward with cancelling the transaction to which he accepted. :o

He states that the likelyhood of finding them though is slim to nil; why does that saying of "Things Too Good To Be True" come to mind? :(

Hurst: In all likelihood, the guy's realised what you've won it for and the S&H charged isn't even going to cover the stamp price, and doesn't want to complete. Understandable enough, although I don't condone making up a story if this is the case. You could try asking if that's the issue and offer to pay £3 for it - air mail postage is £2.07 alone, so I think that's reasonably fair. Granted, you shouldn't have to pay for his mistakes, but it's still a pretty low price.

@THC: It's my personal belief that if one is willing to list an auction with a set standard postage price and a starting bid of 1.00GBP, then one is willingly and actively accepting that the auction could very well end on that amount or pass through entirely; on that basis I've no sympathy, as this has happened to me in the past but I've accepted the result and have learnt from it, otherwise if one wanted a higher amount as an acceptable parting price then one should list the auction with a starting bid that reflects said amount. :)

Now, this is all based around the assumption the Seller wanted more for the listing; if we look at it the other way then I still believe the Seller should've posted prior notice of the 'missing items' before the auction's end - I'm sure eBay would've been happy to remove the listing on such a basis if asked. :cool:

C'mon Hursti, now I believe we need to give you a small lecture. You've won it, it's legally binding; you've paid for it -- like 5 years ago?? Is that seller still telling you that he's looking for it and will post it as soon as he finds it? This is ridiculous!

Certainly a 5-year-old incident is too old to chase up but once is enough. Don't let the current one mug you again. You have done your part of the respect and understanding deal, far more than what's expected of a saint. You still have your right to protect.

EDIT: I was probably a bit drastic. What I mean is this: indeed it could be that he did lost it, and I'd do the same as you've done to accept a cancellation if he chose so. It did happen to me before, the seller told me he's run out of stock and I believed him so I agreed to cancel the deal. However note the difference: my case the seller was proactive in communication. I believe a sincere seller would not have let you keep emailing him for 48 hours without a decent reply, especially when it's regarding a material mistake on his side. Based on what you've said, it suggest in every way that he is not sincere in making this a fair deal, he just want to dodge hoping he can just get away with it, that you'll finally give up.

The usual price for a boxed Fort Max would be about $900-$1000 roughly (thats at the high end of the price scale too). The average price for the Brave Max was usually around $400-$500 MIB/MISB not long ago so it seems to be getting more expensive. The most expensive Max is Grand Maximus and MIB goes for over $2000 easily.

You haven't missed a beat. Fort Max literally tripled in price over a very short period right after DOTM - almost overnight. Generally speaking, most G1's have had price hike since the movie but Fort Max has now become beyond reach for many collectors now :(

I'm guessing that $350 for two good condition cores of Fort Max is pretty good value? How hard it it to track down all the parts? would it cost another $200 each?

Collectors rush to buy one before the market gets flooded with fakes. What a lot of new collectors don't realise is that even though the KO Fort Max hasn't been released just yet, there have been KO parts for him for several years now.

I thought this was worth mentioning if anyone here is looking to buy a cheapish / incomplete one with the thought of tracking down the parts separately.

It happens every time. There was some transformers cassettes linked here the other day, and I know its probably the last time to get a genuine set like that.

But from what I read, the KO Fort Max seemed to be bogus, so these prices may have artificially inflated.

I believe it was made public by kotoys.com that an accurate G1 Fort Max KO couldn't be done. Coupled with a common belief that an official reissue will most likely never be released, this was probably another reason why the price has jumped to insane heights.

I was a little disappointed that it got up so high. I lost one a couple of weeks ago that went for 16 pounds and was hoping that this one wouldn't go any higher that 20. But I'm just glad I won it and that I'll have it soon

I'd say very different. One's a light plastic snap kit, this is a revoltech kit that you build and paint yourself.
