Seeing Hursti's recent Rock Lord acquisitions prompted me to search for a decent lot to get a bit of a collection going myself. Went for this auction today, can't wait for the nostalgia rush when they arrive! :D http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/140621459927?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_483wt_1105

I know some of you guys LOVE collecting weird/ obscure TF merc.

How about this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-Takara-Japan-G1-Transformers-Scramble-City-Boardgame-w-Decoys-MIB-/160671198157?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2568bfebcd) Takara boardgame? The box art looks AMAZING :)

It is cool but its also missing two more decoys - the six autobots are the same in every game while the 2 decepticons are always random.

I hope to get the instructions translated within the next month - just waiting on some more japanese goodness to arrive - any one in melbourne wanna play? heh :D

Thanks Hursti, so many fond memories came flooding back after seeing your Rock Lords. I just had to go on the hunt for some!

I was thinking how cool it would be to have a model cave to display them all in with some atmospheric LED lighting. :) I'd totally forgotten about those Nalis too, haha they're brilliant! Will deffo take pics when they arrive!

LOL, not dodgy at all! Don't you reckon some of the swirly paint jobs are way cool? Like Sabre Stone's pink and white paint scheme how they kinda blend together...Looks swoit I reckon :)

Would you pay that much for those Beast Wars toys if you had the mulah-lah Hursti? I love how he/she offers a discount of 5%, I think if you can afford them at that price it's not gonna make all that much of a difference. :p

Oh yeah, completely agree; what they lacked in engineering they made up in strides with materials as the paint, plastic and diecast are quite superior to a number of G1s of the same period. ;)

I know huh? - how bloody ridiculous :p, but if I had the money?; yes, yes I would buy them as they very rarely ever seem to rear their ugly faces anywhere. :o
That seller has a quite a substantially large range of rare Japanese G1 figures too, just don't look at the prices. :p

Cmon fellas - you two crooners can't be Gobot haters and at the same time reminisce about the concept of transformable rocks ? Double standards man!

I had the gold Rocklord not too long ago (Nuggit?!). Won it as part of an 80's ebay auction. If only you guys spoke up about your secret (shameful :p) obsession earlier, I would've given it away. I ended up trading it with a bunch of other stuff.

Hopefully he isn't the "Fortress Maximus" of the Rocklords series.

LOL, honestly I don't hate the Gobots that much as, in the end, they too are Cybernetic beings and therefore receive a higher rating from me than what G.I. Joe ever will.
(Rocklords are just cooler than Gobots, who are really just slaves to the Cybertronian Empire anyway :p)

Yeh I think that particular seller is just attempting to pass that off as another actual graded Strafe. The one he has isn't sitting in an acryllic case, there's no AFA sticker and to top it off - the grades given (CARD: 85) clearly does not match the item shown.

Some auctions make me sad, like an incomplete Transmutate that needed 2 pieces (that I have) that ended for $5 (the seller didn't get back to me about postage to Australia so I wasn't going to bid). Or the 2006 BotCon Tigatron that went for $50 and I didn't bid for the same reason as the Transmutate. (Some sellers are so lazy)

But sometimes, auctions make you laugh, and often for silly reasons.

Take this Beast Wars Lot (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lot-25-Transfromers-BEAST-WARS-Figures-Machines-Loose-/370562918622?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56474568de) for example.

Now, if I didn't know that there was no *actual* reissue of the Stunticons (and even a fairly dedicated fan would feel the need to check that (http://highendtfs.com/?q=node/51)), this auction gave me the impression that it was a legitimate item. There is nothing on the entire listing that suggests it is a KO/counterfeit item, which would suck in a lot of people who may think that, of all the legitimate reissues we've had in the last 10 years, one could have been this set.
I might send them a message, out of curiosity, to see why they didn't mention on the listing that it was a fake... just to see what they answer with, or if they ignore me.

The guy even lists the item as being from the 1980s era, so is very deceptive indeed.

I had a look at their completed listings and feedback, and they only sell fakes, so should be shut down (if reporting to ebay does anything anymore).

(to be honest, I would have thought that it would be possible to purchase a loose set of legitimate stunticons for less than the $300 current bid price of that fake set)

I did, and I sent a message... but the guy has since posted up another fake since I sent that message (with the same deceptive use of "reissue" as if that's an acceptable term for "Fake").
I'll report his other items, but since he's been doing it for a while, I doubt ebay will do anything about them, without Hasbro themselves reporting them.
(I'm reporting them as copyright violations, as the packaging and "Transformers" name is at least an indisputable breach of the law - even if the copying of the moulds is debated by fans, but is still just as illegal (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Knockoff#Legal_analysis_of_knockoffs))

This is what we can expect more of with the closure of KO Toys.

And how do you know the scumbag wasn't getting his supplies from KO Toys to begin with. Furthermore you must have missed the auction where the KO Dino Cassettes were passed off as the real thing only a couple of weeks ago.

Let's not give KO Toys any credit they're undeserving of- they fueled this kind of scam infinitely more than they might have unintentionally stopped it.

No I didn't. KO toys have been around a lot longer on eBay than the above mentioned auction and the Dino Cassettes ;)

I'm not giving them any credit, only saying that with the closure of one direct online source for KO's with fixed pricing - regardless of which site it was, we're likely to see an increase of unscrupulous sellers flocking to other online sources such as eBay.

PS. I can read your comment just fine without you having to 'bold' certain parts.

No I didn't. KO toys have been around a lot longer on eBay than the above mentioned auction and the Dino Cassettes ;)

And yet KOToys in the case of the Dino Cassettes, and every one of their projects listed, were not just the supplier but the manufacturer. On top of that, they were making not just the small stuff, but high end stuff. While it doesn't shut down all the manufacturers for them; the shutting down of KOToys is by its very nature, the removal (at least for now) of one of the KO manufacturers.

I'm not giving them any credit, only saying that with the closure of one direct online source for KO's with fixed pricing - regardless of which site it was, we're likely to see an increase of unscrupulous sellers flocking to other online sources such as eBay.

Other sources still exist (I'm sure I saw 2 others mentioned somewhere), however KOTous were also at the very least, the agents for the manufacturers of some of the KOs and so they were the supplying the very scammers you bring up.

PS. I can read your comment just fine without you having to 'bold' certain parts.

What you were saying was coming across as defending KOToys like they were just an online retailer, when in fact they were iirc, the actual manufacturers of some of the G1 counterfeits, and so your response in some ways was oxymoronic. I was simply addressing that point.

That's amazing, if legit (I don't think they were ever fully KOed). But since he's wanting a little over a thousand dollars for each figure, I wonder if it will sell. You can just imagine that they will go straight to be AFA graded... which would be the only way to make money off that hefty price tag.

That's amazing, if legit (I don't think they were ever fully KOed). But since he's wanting a little over a thousand dollars for each figure, I wonder if it will sell. You can just imagine that they will go straight to be AFA graded... which would be the only way to make money off that hefty price tag.
(someone has already asked if he will sell four of them for "just" $500 each)

Yep - but look with the recent Hot Rod case find. They all went off to AFA and now AFA Hot Rods are everywhere! Great if youre buying one now. :D

If they were smart and looking to maximise profit they would have sold them off one at a time and not told anyone about the case.

Ya. Plus they would find it so much easier to sell them off individually. Can't say there's one too many people out there prepared to fork out 13k on a case of the same two figures.

I would have called knock off, if I didn't see the photos of the box. But still...... is it really legit? That's a lot of money to pony up.

The "dream" of a long lost case of G1 toys turning up in a warehouse is something I think we've all had at some point or another. Blitzwing -has- been knocked off, I don't think Astrotrain has.........

Maybe Griffin i right - "if" its legit.

From TFWiki:

In Japan, there are two different versions of this toy: one nearly identical to the Hasbro version, another with a more show-like coloration, lacking the green spots and purple paint, adding yellow to its beak, lightening the black plastic to gray, and changing the light red to a darker red.

Why didn't the basics get a run in the 10th Anniversary :( It makes me sad.

I'm more shocked at the fact that they are willing to ship worldwide... that's so rare in itself. Imagine the cost of shipping it all here.
If that lot goes for less than 100K, it's a bargain... and would likely be sold off individually on ebay later for profit.

For what is likely to be the (continuously) longest running action figure toyline in the world, there really should be. Tomy have a "vault" of TFs, while Hasbro would have resources and a lot of the unused prototypes... it should be possible, but also a great ongoing marketing tool for the toyline (or toylines, if Hasbro made it a Hasbro toy museum, for variety).

I don't know if a permanent installation would be profitable in the long term but a travelling exhibition along the lines of the Harry Potter one at the Power house at the moment would be something they could present around the world every 5 - 10 years fairly successfully I think.

you never know he might be a suddely rich person who's thrown a MISB For Max in there for a lucky buyer.:D

I sent the guy a message (before i realized he only shipped to u.s. ) regarding exactly how packed it is and the dimensions of the box etc.. He replied that it was quite full and he'd send some more info, but he never did....:(:( I'll ask nicely if he would consider sending over here.:D I'll go for it if he does.

canofwhoopass_87
20th January 2012, 09:48 AM
lol there is absolutely no way in hell that an unopened shipping box from 1987 was discovered at a Toys r Us after "some shelving was moved". I used to work in a big retail store during my uni days and that's just a ridiculous claim. A case of Fort Max (which I'm sure would've came as 2 Fort Maxes per case) is absolutely enormous and near impossible to stay hidden for 25 years. Not only that, but he has 3 in total. Did he find 1 and a half cases of Fort Maxes?

Other holes in his auction

- The pictured Fort Max is acryllic encased. Convenient for them to have one handy!

- "a team member of ours actually found the items and put price tags on them and a young boy actually purchased the fortress maximus for 79.99" - after so long in "storage", the bardcode wouldn't even register on the system.

- "stil sealed and waiting for you! its in perfect condition with no flaws dings or tears!" - sounds like this guy is a collector.

I feel really bad for the people who have already placed bids :(

But is it a legit Fort Max is my question?

Fort Max has never been knocked off. The seller has 0 feedback and is attempting to sell off a super mint sealed in box G1 Fort Max. It's more likely to be a scam than anything else.

Keen eyed U.S fans are probably going to get the auction pulled eventually methinks!

jazzy_josh
20th January 2012, 11:42 AM
Is it just me or does this really sound like a bad scam? First thing that raises my alarms are, why woulda young kid want this bot if they have not seen it on tv? No advertisement no need to want it. Second why if they have more then one why do they not list them on ebay? also this quote here "we have 2 more fortress maximus still in the box and we auctioning them off as employee of the month incentive prizes!" why would they be auctioning them off as employee of the month prizes? The store wont give the money to the person so why do this? Also am I seeing things but it looks like the box is inside a clear casing, can any one else see this?

I am sorry guys but I think this is a scam and I feel sorry for those who have bidded on it.

20th January 2012, 01:40 PM
The first rule of collecting is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I would be very hesitant in believing someone on eBay with zero feedback saying that he just unearthed a MISB Fort Max.

I can't be completely certain, but I believe I have seen the picture in the auction somewhere before as well.

@ jazzy_josh - Acrylic cases are often used by collectors to protect / preserve rare or expensive items. A company called AFA in America is known for grading and encasing Transformers and other collectables for a fee. This has the effect of increasing the value of the collectable as well, especially if it receives a high rating from AFA.

Fortress Maximus was packed one per case. That lot is particularly depressing because I need a few of those G1's.

On a side note Spitzaboxing seems to have a lot of OG G1's with their boxes all complete but they do seem a lil pricey. Must resist temptation......

From the item lot that I got was..

1- A Reflector camera set with all accessories
2- A nearly complete Roadbuster
3- A white non yellowed Jetfire figure with some amour, gun and even the gun clip too
4- A complete Devastator figure with only one missing green gun from one of the vechile
5- Sludge figure with all accessories
6- A nearly complete minty Metroplex figure only need the chest amour part
7- More than twelve complete different mini auto bots between 1984 to 1986 in perfect condition
8- 99% complete Skywarp plane minus a missile weapon stick.
9- Red alert with accessories
10-One powerdasher mail away Jet figure
11-Two insections (deception) Bombshell and Kickback with all accessories
12 Blurr and Scourge figures with accessories
13-Hot Rod with accessories
14 Complete Bruticus combination set of five
15-Two throttlebots with two decoy figures
16-Blades and Groove with accessories
17-Downshift with hood missing
18- Three identical weapon part from the cassette robots that was not included

All of the figures are original and not a reissue or knock offs..
Many of the figures were in good condition for it age and some were hardly played with. It was sold to me by a mother who have two "grown up" boys..
I am not sure of actual face value for all of the figures but I know the gamble has paid off well..

(That's a damn intriguingly rare piece, you're dead right SS )

I'll shoot him an email now and see if he plans to sell any more in the near future. Will let you know his answer. :)

Cheers DD, I'm pretty confidant he'll have another up later.

your opinion of the toy when you get it would be great.

The most awesome of Optimus Prime repaints, in diaclone blue, still in original packaging. Diaclone Powered Convoy is going to go for a fortune!

As A Microman collector I'd love that but not at that price:o, I got the re-release that they did in the late 90's. Not sure it's identical but uses a cassette for a bike:)

I was thinking about having a shot at that one. The box is a bit different to all the others i've seen. hope the quality is there.

Apparently there are no markings on it and it is made entirely of plastic. I think i'll give it a miss.

Indeed it is.
I put the first bid on this before realising what it was. Lucky for me it wasn't much and I've since been outbid.

The colours look pretty show-accurate to me (i.e. in Beast Wars until she becomes a Transmetal 2) - what seems Waspinatorish to you, Loopy?
