Yeh ok. Good rant.

Only posted it bc it was interesting. Apparent has multiple meanings, including "seeming" (3. Appearing as such but not necessarily so)...so I do believe my original post was on par with

"It's what he says it is. Which is, admittedly, somewhat vague." I don't know what it is and neither does he. That was pretty much all I had going with the link

Yep, he's a well-known fan artist. He did some of the BotCon comics, and had some art published in the Genesis Art of Transformers book (including some of the pictures for sale there). I think he may have done some stuff for IDW, such as some of the Beast Wars Sourcebook pages.

just curious, but what is this guys game??
can he really take peoples money and then close all his bank accounts before paypal can reach his funds??

if yes, then will paypal still reimburse the buyer?
if not, then why would the seller bother repeating this scam over and over again??

And I am fairly sure there was no orange cap previously as well.

By the way I'm sure most do know, but for anyone who doesn't know; "Megabum" is what Starscream called Megatron in a G1 episode. If I recall correctly it was "Countdown to Extinction". Anyone know for sure ?

Is there such thing as a KO Black Zarak??
cos that seller has the most Mintiest Black Zarak (http://cgi.ebay.com/G1-Transformers-Black-Scorponok-D-311-MIB_W0QQitemZ280421598142QQihZ018QQcategoryZ4696QQ cmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3 DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252B LA%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63) i have ever seen!!! but the seller also has a history of selling 4 MISB nightbeats for only 85USD each!!!!

:confused:Am I reading this right, no one even put a dollar bid on this:eek:

thats really weird... i could have sworn it was currently at ~200USD with 3 more days to go or something close to that...

hmmm....
I've only ever seen that happen when people get worried its gonna sell for too little and they pull the auction but relist it again with some lame excuse like "there was a typo, sorry"
that or when someone else makes an offer on the item and gets the seller to end the auction early for a personal sale outside of ebay....

dodgy!!!

Look like the seller of that Black Zarak is also a scammer
as here is his original auction

Well from the looks of that sale, yep. In some obscure unknown area of the world... it didnt get enough hype from the fans so prolly its why we didnt know much about it. Plastic looks dodgy, but man, a KO fortmax. Wow that wouldve been one big KO!! Guess no one had 15 grand in their pockets. Honestly I dont think they wanna sell coz I mean the minute minority who has 15 grand in them would not be trawling ebay ( even if they do, I dont think they'd feel safe just paying 15 grand like that online, I know I wont, not unless I see the merchandise physically in front of me) ...... they be busy doing/minding business and stuff to make more money... had they split this .....well. that is a seriously strange auction...

Yeah I laughed at all the free gifts.. stuff he is just going to go out and buy for you like a TF game on the format of your choice. Also, the new laptop up to $2K to your specs and then they've got a picture of an Alienware laptop. Why bother with all of that.

I've just read so much spin I'm dizzy.

I also find it hard to believe $10K was spent on the metal junk used to build him, however selective.

" I think you'll agree, the bonuses alone make this the single biggest transformer offering in history, with the total REAL LIFE value of $4515 USD (and that is NOT an inflated figure - I hate it when people do that)."

Yeh.

We know the artist works outside in a hut surrounded by metal junk. No other mention is made of him. I wonder what his commission was from this entrepreneurial sugar daddy.

Impressive piece though for sure.

Impressive piece though for sure.

yeah. totally agree.

I kind of went wtf, when I read all Transformers dvds ever made - value $750.

About Fort Max and Grand Max, you'd be 100% correct, (it's happening now), but Brave Max...not unless there's a good majority of the TF fanbase wanting them. The demand level for Braves are most definetely not as high as Fort or Grand, rather it's seen as a lower cost alternative. I'm not saying you're completely wrong, I'm just saying I doubt they would KO it as this time.

5FDP

There is no Brave Maximus KO to my knowledge. There are however two versions - Takara's and Sonokong's (who made a licensed version in the Car Robots line as they had a partnership with Takara). These are identical aside from the autobot chest sticker being upside down on the Sonokong release.

And yes, Brave Maximus should sell for less than either Fortress or Grand Maximus as demand is not as high.

I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but this is a case of turning a 'blind eye' as you said.

This exact same drongo has in the past said (and I quote) "i am an avid collector for over 16 years and know what im talking about".

He's also infamous for taking a Fortress Maximus and having "REPAINTED EVERY SINGLE PIECE (except the red parts)". He then called it "DEEP NEAR MINT.(I PERSONALLY THINK HE IS MINT BUT PEOPLE JUDGEMENTS DIFFER SO I WROTE NEAR MINT)" and said "if you want an item that can qualify for an AFA grading then u came to the right place". He believed that someone could AFA grade a Fortress Maximus that he's vandalised and that in the process of his vandalism he somehow made it mint.

I remember that, and unfortunately, yes, some sellers (other than me! haha) will do that, either ignore emails or use lines which act as a buffer against unsatisfied buyers. While some do it deliberately, with this seller I think it's 50-50. It's a hard call unless you understand them and are in their shoes, but THAT seller is particularly hard to understand oftentimes. Good guy, means well, but difficult to understand

Just an update for everyone regarding the Pre-G1 Transformers Shockwave (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180453228095&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123) reported earlier in this thread - I received an email from the seller after informing him that what he was selling was actually a recent cheap Chinese KO that sells for approx. 12 bucks.

His reply was...

"thanks for your help. iv dropped his price".

What a stupid S.O.B...

He hasn't even changed the heading or made any note of the fact that this is a counterfeit item in the description

It's there a link to this? I personally restored the greened parts of my Max with paint but would never sell him without informing possible buyers of my restoration.

I would never sell him, actually.

I must say that the use of the term "vandalised" in restoring a Fortress Maximus from looking like greened and yellowed junk on the shelf to a more optimal display piece that one can again look at with pride is somewhat distressing. I am not condoning what that seller did by calling the toy 'mint' as that is intentionaly deceiving and very poor form. However I can't help to take a bit of offense in the use of the term 'vandalising' to efforts of restoring a toy from being a junker to an attractive display piece.

Hey Kup - I'm on the other end of the spectrum on this. There's this culture of 'customising' that's reared its head over the past few years, where - owing to obviously talented people like Frenzyrumble - every second man and his dog on eBay seems to think that by sticking some paint and Sculpey on a junker it somehow becomes more valuable than a perfectly good used toy that's had nothing done to it. The guy's Fortress Maximus auction was an extreme example of this - it was a junker with no accessories that had paint all over it, and he thought it became some sort of "MINT" masterpiece that could be AFA graded. I just noticed that it even got international 'attention' (of sorts): http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-ebay/233454-crazy-fort-max-listing-painted-no-accessories-starting-price-377-us.html

I don't think that's the same thing as what you do, which seems to be taking bits of incomplete or G1 toys and combining or fusing or fixing them into a single working toy that you're happy with for your own collection. Personally, as soon as someone else has put paint on or modified a toy, (for me) it's no longer that toy, I wouldn't buy it and it has no place in my own (personal) collection. That's not to say that I have a problem with people doing whatever they want to their own toys in their own homes - I just can't stand it when - as in this case - they put monstrosities up on eBay and expect to fetch more than an unmodified toy.

I respect your own perspective, like I said, I am not defending the guy, he is clearly in the wrong and I agree that what he did is very low as he is trying to deceive a potential buyer by simply slapping paint on the toy and calling it mint.

I will explain my perspective and hopefully show why I initially took offense to the term 'vandalizing'. At the time, I felt that you meant it as a generalized term to any act of restoration more than something specific to that incident.

I think there is a bit of sadness in finding a beat up and discolored vintage toy that is considered a 'junker' which nobody wants and destined to either be trashed or spend its life in a junk pile, forgotten never to be displayed or played with again. I take a lot of joy and pride in dedicating to that 'junker' toy the effort of changing its fate and giving its 'life' back by restoring it into a displayable piece which is identical or near so to its original condition.

Restoring a toy to something closer to its orginal condition from a state of considerable disrepair or wear is different to customising one. Restoring is giving that yellowed toy back its orginal colors, making the electronics work again, fixing that broken inner joint so it can transform again or retouching its worn/flaked painted datailing to restore is orginal look but the aim is not to 'change' the toy into something else - it's more as the name implies, restore it to what it once was or as close as possible to it.

To me it doesn't make it any less legit than a 'mint' toy as I feel that I have giving it its life back, another chance at being both a playable and displayable piece instead of otherwise being a piece of junk in a box or land fill. The aim is to make it more valuable than it was rather than more valuable than another toy - The meaning of 'value' varies from person to person but doesn't necesary mean financial, at least not as far as I am concerned.

As you can see, I have a bit of emotional involvement in making some junker a toy again and from a philosphical perspectve, I feel that I have giving it its soul back.

I'm very much against it. What he did was murder...He got A LOT of bad press from that, which both buyers and sellers are gonna remember for a while. Customisers like frenzyrumble and Sabrina Ng are awesome...they truly produce works of art (and if I could afford them, I'd buy them with no regrets!)...but his Fort Max was utter destruction of an already destroyed piece. As I said, very difficult guy to understand...Now he's trying to pass off a PROVEN KO Shockwave as a Pre-TF...he's missing a few lugnuts! fishy fishy fishy, whatever will you do to aggravate people next?

He tried to say it was a "mint" toy and AFA gradeable.....i';d call that murder anywhere in the world.

Then how did the custom argument come around? It sounds more as the guy trying to trick a potential buyer through deceit rather than selling it as a high price custom like FrenzyRumble or others.

Unfortunately he is not alone in the Ebay world. I have seen so many figures being passed as mint despite having serious flaws.

It typically goes like this:

Transformers xxxxx C9 condition - Mint L@@k!

But when you actually look at the figure it has massive paint scratches, missing parts, etc. Sometimes they even try to hide the missing part in a picture, I remember this guy selling a headless Doubledealer as 'mint' by using the vulture head for the robot mode.

Some years ago there was an Australian dealer (forgot the name) who was notorious for doing such things. She used stock photos rather than real ones of the toy and announced the figures as 'Complete 100% C9 mint!' I bought what appeared to be a very good TM2 Megatron but upon receiving the toy it had missing missiles, severely chipped chrome and missing parts of its beast legs.

Thankfully she refunded me in full but she should have known better rather than wasting my time. It only required some common sense to be able to tell that the toy is not in the advertised condition.

That's far too common in the ebay world.

The shipping price is high to avoid having to pay an expensive listing fee (not that I agree with it but that's why he's done it).

The seller who bought the million dollar auction (can't recall his Ebay user ID ATM) had most AFA graded and they've been sitting on Ebay for ages. The listing fees must be killing him... but then again, if he had the cash to purchase them all, I'm sure his not that worried anyway.

RK had all 5 of the vintage takara MISB predacons in stock the last time I checked, but looks like they're all gone except for tantrum. They have plenty of other jap G1 MISB combiners + other boxed figures. Most are pricey though :D

General question:

I've only ever seen AFA graded G1's sell for hefty amounts in auctions, never BIN's. Most BIN's that I see on ebay just time out. Maybe people enjoy hunting MISB and getting it graded themselves? Works out a fair bit cheaper.

bboy-toransufoma

Apparently that's true...I know a lot of people hunting down MISBs and grading it themselves...Sure they have to pay tonnes for delivery and service etc...but it does work out cheaper in the end...not by that much for some figures, but other rarer ones, oh yes.

Not enough by the sounds of things. Reminds me of a friend I used to get TF's from at the Dapto markets, I paid her for what I thought they were worth, most were junkers and that. She thought she wasn't getting enough for them so she said she would hold onto them until they were worth more.

Junkers for figures that are easy to come buy are highly unlikley to increase in value.

No, I got an invoice with $$US postage for multiple items because I wouldn't accept a paypal "money request" thing outside of ebay and I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he claimed ebay was screwing it up. And then he refunded the postage difference so that was fine. Can you AFA Grade opened items? :(

Actually, you can see the tape in the 3rd photo, you can see the bubble underneath it. I understand these figures are pretty old and tapes lift, and I didn't really pay attention to this but it has obviously been tampered with.

I'm actually happy with predacons I bought but a bit dissapointed in this one but the box is excellent.

It might be gradable under the 'qualified' grading scheme, for items that have been opened and resealed but are still very 'MISB', but I guess that would be quite different from an MISB item.

AFA does indeed grade loose and opened figures. I don't understand the point of having a loose transformer graded though, doesn't look appealing at all . Anyone can buy a decent figure off ebay, repro label it and essentially have the same thing...

Not sure if there's some sort of fine print or conditions that apply for loose graded, but MIB includes vintage pre G1's that were never sealed to begin with

those look like the Chinese issues. The box colours also look a little... wrong. Could be just the camera though.

They'd still be legit, like the pre-classics/gold Gen1 toys released here in their original gen1 packaging. They should still go for a fair bit though, especially in one bulk lot like that.

Bit suspicious of his 6 cheap sealed Nightbeats (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250571797310)though...

Yes, this seller consistently has the [legitmate] Chinese reissues.

They're reissues too, and he's got a lot more than 6.

How much do you reckon that lot will go for? I think maybe US$600 to $800.

Although to be honest, the Chinese issues of those characters are arguably rarer than the Jap issues. (I said issues because I suspect they may not be "reissues" because they were just released onto the Chinese market later than the current year they were supposed to be in. It's almost like Hasbro's 1985 issues of some 1984 toys, those are not considered reissues I don't think).

I agree they're not reissues and issues is a better term. He'd nab 6-800 for Lio alone. I'm guessing over 1K, probably over 1.2K.

These items themselves arn't that unique, it's the shipping information that's the kicker...

Somehow I think he is only joking. If not, then he is more mental than anyone else on Ebay.

Why buy a Leader Class Bulkhead for $130, when it is only $20 at Target...

...worse still, they don't guarantee that the items they are listing are actually in stock! So they list up stuff that is in stores, and if someone commits to their listing, they go out and find it - and if they can't find it in stores anymore, they think they can get away with not having to supply the item??? Seems dodgy to me.

But this one is interesting - 2 beat up Gnaws, so should be legit (not KOs), for anyone wanting to build an army of Sharkticons...
