There's a set of 4 Combiner Wars Legends figs (Powerglide, Windcharger, Bombshell, Thundercracker) up on Ebay for $72 (plus postage - mine was only $10)

Seems to me like a pretty good deal if you didn't already have a loot pile somewhere :)

It didn't say 'Reserve not yet net' but the auction had ended not sure if that made a difference. It wasn't met at 40k.

It doesn't show on the mobile site, but its still showing in my desktop site "watched list" as Reserve not met. And the bids page shows it too. Really wish Ebay would do something about their mobile site-its almost useless half the time :(

The left hand side of the box that frames around the window, has slightly rounded internal edges rather than the sharp square edges of the original release. That's the best way I know how to tell-although I'm sure there are other indicators too :p

I started looking at the auction, but it wasn't a full set of Sealed, or even legit MIB toys (so reproduction items in there). Worse, mixed card types between Spanish and English ..

I was actively collecting these between 2002 and 2007 but with the movie in 2007 it got so much harder to get vintage stuff so I stopped. Maybe when I sell the collection I will start trying to fill some gaps.

I know that we had those in Gen1 packaging here at the same time as the Gold packaged "Classics" (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=333142#post333142), but according to tfwiki (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Classics_%28Europe%29), they weren't released in gold Classics packaging (apparently they are noted as exclusive to Australia... but I think they were just some stock of the Chinese reissues (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers_%28Chinese_toyline%29) that were being produce at around the same time).

AU$6,500 for each of them???:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I doubt they are a fan.
A fan would know that they aren't worth anywhere near that. Probably $1,000 at the most and that would be in better condition than these two (one has robot points cut out of the box that you can barely see in the photos, while the other one has very sun-damaged packaging it isn't worth keeping)... but realistically these toys in that condition would be lucky to go for US$600-800 at auction (which the current exchange rate pushes it up to almost AU$1000).

I hate it when non-collectors come across something they work out is rare, without actually knowing how that translates to actual value.

Rare does not always equal valuable.

Looking at their other items, I find it deplorable that they are trying to sell the KO Dia Atlas toy (noted on the box as C-888) for AU$1,500. They note that it is a "copy reissue", but the real version isn't even worth that, even in better condition than this fake.

Couldn't agree more with you on that one. This seller has been putting up some very rare items in the last three months or so (nothing I have seen has sold) They have extremely ridiculous prices, poor photos and f-all description. Not the best way to sell high end Transformers

I think the company that released JP Transformers in South Korea (Sonokong) has had a clearing out of their warehouse... or some other strange storage find, as there seem to be a lot of really cheap Big Convoy toys (the mammoth from Beast Wars Neo) and smaller quantities of some other BW Neo toys, showing up by South Korean sellers... like this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/120857574119?rmvSB=true), and this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/140909312163?rmvSB=true) (and see their other listings for more).

The South Korean versions of the Japanese Transformers are identical to the Japanese ones, and even made in the same factories... they just had different packaging.

edit - apparently these have been out for a while now, so there must have been a lot of stock to still be selling it after all this time for so cheap.

The label says JC Penny so it's not the Hasbro mail away version but a store sent or more likely a layby cover. It looks like the box flap has been bent over backwards (cringe) Still a very cool item and will be interesting to see what it goes for, it has an appeal to keep it as is which is very unique (which I would probably do) or if you're mental (jokes) to open up a mint G1 item, to me from a box collector perspective it could be pretty crap with the flap bent over like that and may have lead to the top part of the box separating from itself due to the perforations some of the early ones had.
Good spot Skullcruncher

I didn't even think about the box flap, its almost painful to think about the store staff just bending it back and then taping the box around it!

This person in Hong Kong (http://www.ebay.com/sch/kcmanhk/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=) must still think that ebay doesn't charge fees on shipping. All their items are super cheap ($10 or less) and have shipping prices that are $100 or more.
Now that ebay charges fees on the entire amount, which I assume is worldwide now, it stops people from avoiding ebay fees by putting the bulk of the item's cost into the shipping amount.

The good thing about this is that it should be possible to get ebay to refund the difference of his shipping quote and the actual amount, because it is in breach of the rules (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-practices.html).... giving you a really cheap item of under $10. I'd test it if there was something I wanted, in case ebay drags its feet or doesn't do refunds without returning the item for a full refund.

Funnily enough even their "local" shipping is 5 times the actual cost.
What an idiot!
Surely he knows he is paying fees on the postage... or is he doing this to bypass customs for countries like the UK where they can only bring in items with a value up to 36 pounds before they get taxed...
Any way you look at it - it sure seems dodgy to me!

I'm happy to go get the items from him and ship at actual rates if anyone wants to be cheeky and msg him to see if he'll allow free local pickup. ;)

That Sega Megatron would be tempting for US$10 if it didn't have a US$110 shipping LOCALLY TO HONG KONG! For that price I could get a container of Megatrons hauled across the city.

What are the photocopies from?
Were they from a special source/person, or were they freely distributed at the time you got them?

I think they are fascinating... so I might take a punt at minimum bid (or more if they are hard to find), and on the off-chance that I win it, I might be able to pick up next Wednesday evening or Thursday morning... depending on the hours you are in the CBD. (like, work hours)

I got them on Yahoo Japan and they were described as transformers production material junk - well that's what google translate was telling me! There is 77 pages all up, about half have actual transformers on them, the rest is humans like "Karen Fishook" and various backgrounds. A slight retrospective here, but there have been some great Beast Wars lots on eBay recently, listed (of all places) in Australia.

These three are from the same seller:

Season One Lot (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221694100281)
Season Two Lot (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321673795348)
Season Three Lot (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221697351699)

What's remarkable about these are the end prices: $255, $265 and $305 respectively, and the average price per figure in each:

Lot 1, with 12 items, at an average of $21 a figure
Lot 2, with 13 figures, at an average of $20 a figure
Lot 3, with 8 figures, at an average of $38 a figure

With a clear focus in each lot on TV show characters, that makes for some good buying. Congrats to whoever picked them up.

If anyone else is keen, there is another lot, again on eBay Australia of all places, but from a different seller: Another Beast Wars Lot (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321681806930) It's in its final day and still very cheap.

Being a retired collector sucks. I miss the thrill of the chase :p

Yes, the El Greco release of Defensor was about 1991 (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/El_Greco), not 1986 as noted on the AFA label in that ebay listing.

I would have to assume that someone who has a significant enough interest in collecting Transformers to have acquired rarities in that condition, and to AFA grade a number of their collection, would be a member here...

But even if they are and would know that those prices are 10-100 times their actual value, they probably know that there are enough deep-pocket collectors out there who will pay any amount to have something like these toys Mint in an AFA case.

Yes. In fact several Human Alliance fakes seem to to have hit the streets up here (Hong Kong) recently, especially Barricade, so beware. I walked into a shop the other day with "new" older movie stock from ROTF and DoTM and every single one was fake.
Whilst I know the recent Hasbro Asia release of Barricade has been popular I'm not sure why the other fakes are making a resurgence right now as well.

Even if it does help draw attention/customers to their listing like we've done here by pointing it out to others, I just don't think I'd do it because it would give me a bad reputation of being a toy scalper. (a lot of the soundwaves are still in separate TRU bags, so they didn't just order a bulk lot from a wholesaler... they went around the stores in their area and bought them all up before anyone else could get to them)

I once showed off a group photo of a rare toy (Alternator Rodimus), but that was after they were all bought for other fans at the same price I paid... so there was no scalping involved. This person with the soundwaves looks to have prevented everyone in and around Vancouver (Canada) from getting one at the approximately Retail US$120. (each of his sold Soundwaves have been US$220-250 - about double his investment from just 18 months)

True - though it's ironic that if it hadn't been customized the seller could probably get three times as much for it :p

No it's had some heavy damage in places and has been repaired. You can still see some cracks under the paint. But it's a good custom nonetheless

This one caught my eye in banning Australia. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TRANSFORMERS-DEEP-COVER-G1-e-HOBBY-92-DIACLONE-SIDESWIPE-NEW-YEAR-SPECIAL-TAKARA-/161653046755?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a345bde3)

Seller specifically states he/she will NOT ship to Australia due to prior bad experience with damaged item(s). I wonder if it was a member here.

Sure do, but I don't see 15k in that picture. Especially since they couldn't take the time to actually list everything and details of accessories, etc. Only thing that interests me is the dinobots, but if we get a dinobot 5 pack or whatever the rumour is, then well, makes the g1 stuff less valuable. :)

I recall this being posted here before, some time ago.... but you can't help but feel a bit annoyed each time you see it though - scalpers-r-us (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Transformers-SOUNDWAVE-MP-02-Masterpiece-SDCC-2013-Toys-R-US-Sealed-TRU-/221750017418?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a154bd8a&rmvSB=true).

Judging by all the ToysRUs bags in the photos, this person in Canada must have gone to every TRU store within driving range, and bought up all the MP Soundwaves... which is the ideal scenario of a toy-scalper - remove all stock from a geographical area, and all the people in that area who want one will pay extra to get it. Plus, when the item is no longer available globally, if the secondary market is already tight with limited options, then he can keep bumping up the price to match the going rate.

Fortunately though, he looks to be having a tough time selling them off, according to his "completed listings" page, only selling about half a dozen in the last 3 months at $220, and yet keeps listing them for $230-300.
So I hope all that "locked up funds" for the last two years has put him off doing it again, because he hasn't listed anything released since this 2013 toy (his other listings have been for multiples of three other store exclusives from before 2013, so this one he got a bit too greedy I think). :D

it's not long ago that he was selling using this picture.
I sent him a sarcastic email thanking him for stockpiling MP soundwaves so fans could buy them of him later at a higher cost than the retail price.

He sent me a long winded response about how he'd bought them months after they became available and had been shelf warming dramatically in his area.
I left it at that and then I received the following a day or so later in my message in box:

ebay is currently investigating the harassment and linking 8 accounts. After responding to your email, I've been GETTING HARRASSMENT CALLS AND fake ids are made to end my auctions. Law enforcement is getting involved and please stop calling in the middle of the night and the other behaviour.

Thank you

I responded by saying I had received his original response and was satisfied. (I've been in trouble with eBay for harassing scalpers before so didn't want to cop it again for fear of account suspension) I just let it drop but he's so full of crap, especially since he's re-listing with the same stupid image.
I always wondered how he thought I might have learnt his phone number from the other side of the world...

Rare? Hell No. If you are just after the figure go for it, if you are a stickler for original vintage then stay clear.

It had me thinking that ebay/paypal would be good for money laundering. You post up something that is so expensive that no one else would buy it, but you or your associate pays for the item with a separate account... even though no goods or physical money changes hands.

Wow, those prices...
$350 for a sealed combaticon? $1500 for an Onslaught? No way.
They seem to be under the impression that sealed automatically means "will be graded," and are trying to sell them close to graded prices. Most of the graded stuff is already way overpriced. Just look at Ebay. The same old same old graded pieces are showing up, at insane prices (by the same sellers) and not selling. What a joke. :/

I can understand high prices for premium items, but $350 for vortex? $1500 for onslaught? Also they never quote some prices, and simply say we know a TM Hook sold for $4500?? I guess if they tell enough people these are bargains them eventually one will fall for it!

Gotta remember that most of the buyers these days are Chinese nationals with crazy bank accounts (some claim are millionaires), can't really speculate but some might have dubious affiliations and businesses. I remember seeing that Takara Convoy AFA selling for $15000 USD

Yeah, what used to happen was the shops in Hong Kong would have buyers buying most of the mint items, there was one that constantly outbid me pwg*** I think it was, I bid him up about 30,000 yen over what I would pay on several items just to see what would happen and they still won the auction. Anyone know much about this Prototype G1 Transformers Ramjet Clear Plastic?
Do prototypes really fetch THAT much (US$800)?

Yeah they do my friend....

Being a seeker fan, I hit this dude up a while ago about these jets he says are prototypes. He reckons they're from they early 2000's ehobby releases but the provenance he gave me wasn't rock solid enough for me to drop that kind of coin on them. They do look pretty cool though I must admit.... maybe not $800 US kinda cool though.

Those were never proven to be prototypes, as there was a flood of those clear toys (mostly Optimus and Starscream) at the time of the first reissues in the early 2000s, and toys that are proven to be prototypes are usually a mix of odd colours or grey.
The last paragraph of this wiki page (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Prototype) talks about the clear toys, that were called by some as "lunchtime specials".
The article mentions a single stage that may use clear plastic to test out the parts by being able to see their internal structure, but it sounds like that stage doesn't have them build the complete toys with all parts, as they are only testing the individual parts. The building stages of the testing process are usually with grey or odd coloured plastic (as shown in that wiki page - none of the examples of known prototypes that we've seen from Hasbro or the factory have been completely clear toys.

This is more of a G1 prototype.
