It only takes one big sale to drive up the price of an item. One time it sells for above average price (for whatever reason), everyone watching/bidding suddenly thinks "i need to get one of these while i can afford it", they then drive the price of the next one and so on and so forth.
Its a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy eg Someone says that a bank is going out of business (even if it is not), everyone gets worried and takes their money out of the bank resulting in the bank going out of business
Give it a bit of time and prices will normalize after the spike.

they both look pretty cool.... buyouts pretty cheap though considering the seller would of had to purchase the toys, paints and not to mention the time put into actually painting them.

Same seller has got a pretty cheap Fansproject Crossfire sets (original and Snowman) for sale.

While we're on BW, is this a good price for the White Lio Convoy Junior variant (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221401945961&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en)?

Nobody should buy a Randy toy ever unless they plan on keeping him MISB. If they want a mint toy to play with, they should buy something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Razor-Razorbeast-TF-Transformers-Beast-wars-Kenner-1996-new-/310792689976?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item485cb01938

It depends on how much postage is on the Dutch one, but I'm fairly sure this is a cheaper alternative if you don't need the puzzle, and you could offer a lower bid: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Takara-Transformers-BEAST-WARS-White-LIO-JUNIOR-figure-with-box-/261450522882?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3cdfaa6102

This American ebayer (http://www.ebay.com/sch/cgtim/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=) is NOT on the Global Shipping Program... for anyone wanting to buy more than one item at a time (the GSP doesn't combine shipping (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=17964) - each item has to be posted individually and paid as individual purchases).

They don't have a huge amount of Transformers among their items at the moment, but do have a number of cheap Built to Rule (http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_osacat=0&_armrs=1&_ssn=cgtim&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xbtr&_nkw=btr&_sacat=0&_from=R40) (both TFs & GIJoe), for anyone else interested in having a sampling of that awful ancestor to Kreo, which can be very hard to find (especially the Energon ones that were only released in one US city). I just bought most of the ones I was missing, so if they haven't relisted them yet (they said they have multiples of most), just ask them what they have.

That's insane. Even if he purchased the first 9 himself to cover it up and make it look better. He would still need to pay ebay fees  ?

I bet they searched ebay for rough pricing on "biggest transformer" and came across gen1 Fortmax, thinking it must be similar (which would actually be about this price).

It looks like the seller isn't someone new or fake, but the sale of 9 at that price would be fake to fool someone who doesn't know the real value, into thinking that it must be the right price. If it is fake, they will have made sure they get out of the ebay fees by claiming it was from a fake buyer (set up a "burn" account that gets booted from non-payment)... leaving the listing as "9 sold" without paying anything in fees.

Even if they did pay fees on the fake purchases, they'd probably still make a profit from a single sale.

Very fishy indeed.
I'd be cautious of buying anything from them.

If you look at the purchase history, the rest sold for between $139.99 and $165.99. The extra '1' at the beginning is obviously a typo.

griffin
23rd April 2014, 01:45 AM
I don't know...

I was trying to find the link to the sold items... and now I found it, I can see that the last one that sold was indeed the same price but without the 1 at the front.
But you can see that they've been bumping up the price as they were running out... and they are too big an ebayer to not notice that sort of typo when altering the price on a listing they've had going for four months.
If it was a typo, what were they aiming to change it to? Since it only had a 1 added at the front, if they were instead trying to change one of the digits to a 1, it would make it cheaper... when they've been bumping up the price each time. A typo would be some other number than 1, if they were once again bumping up the price to something rational.

Meh... not my problem. :p

A loose Japanese Grandus from 1991 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/G1-1991-TRANSFORMERS-RETURN-OF-CONVOY-C-371-GRANDUS-100-COMPLETE-SUPER-RARE-HTF-/161241178716?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item258ab9225c&nma=true&si=RW11U%252ByiWKMCqQA%252FOdvfguANmHc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557), with a yellowed Micron (Micromaster), auctioned off and getting 48 bids.... US$910 (about AU$1000).
I didn't think it was that rare. Imagine how high it would go MISB, or with a box. (another JP Gen1 toy on my list that I'll never get :( )

US$800 for some JP Headmaster Heads... they'd want to be the originals and not the 2010 KOs. (Trizer (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-vintage-G1-Japanese-Traizer-Headmaster-Exclusive-MISB-Rare-/251488624630?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3a8de3dff6), Lione (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-vintage-G1-Japanese-Lione-Headmaster-Exclusive-MISB-Rare-/400685326486?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item5d4ab4e096), Rodney (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-vintage-G1-Japanese-Rodney-Headmaster-Exclusive-MISB-Rare-/400685324845?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item5d4ab4da2d))
It's interesting to see that the price-tags still on them, say that these were originally sold (in 1987) for just 250 yen (that's only about AU$2.80).
That would have to be one of the best investments I've ever seen for a TFs toy (probably even better than the Dino cassettes, which would have retailed for more). From US$2.80 to AU$880 in 17 years... that's about 32,000% profit, or about 1,800% increase in value each year. Imagine that sort of return on an investment.... buying a hundred of each in 1987, and you'd be set for life.
JUST A WARNING - I was bidding on some of this person's items, and the same shill bidder with zero feedback came along and pushed up several of their auctions in the last half hour... and then cancelled a bid on one item when they went above the maximum bid of the current winner.
The seller may well be innocent of this, but this isn't the first time it has happened to me on rare JP Gen1 items, just because the seller wasn't getting as many bidders as they had hoped (and then offer it to me at my max bid instead of what I would have won it at if they weren't in on the shill bidding scam).

And now for something completely different. On the creepy end of the Transformers scale... I'm guessing that a comic book featuring the holographic girl from Car Robots/RID in a really wrong pose (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Japanese-doujinshi-TF2000-Ai-Chan-RID-Otaku-magazine-Comic-/251511999403?pt=US_Action_Figures&autorefresh=true&hash=item3a8f488bab&nma=true&si=RW11U%252ByiWKMCqQA%252FOdvfguANmHc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557), with "ages 18 up", I don't think this is your ordinary IDW type of Transformers comic. The lack of Transformers or Takara branding, suggests that this is a fan-produced "3rd party" project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C5%8Djinshi), meeting the needs of the Japanese guys whom Kissplay was aimed at. ;)

They just sent a second-chance offer at the final (shill) bid price, instead of what I would have won it at... suggesting that they are in league with the shill bidder by not ignoring the fake bid (and profiting from the extra money that those fake bids brought in).
It probably doesn't cost them anything to relist, so they won't care if I reject it on principle... but I could see if ebay would bother to investigate them for shill bidding.

After saying that I was going to report the shill bidder to ebay, the guy dropped it down to what I would have won it at. (I didn't threaten them at all, or demand they change it to my winning amount, but while we were haggling a couple of his other items that didn't sell, the suggestion that it was suspicious that so many of his items benefited from the one shill bidder, may have had him worried)
It's only $10 difference, but it is the principle of it... and why throw away money that is rightfully yours?

In the end it probably didn't matter, as I was able to talk him down $200 on a couple of other JP Gen1 boxed mint figures... that still ended up costing me nearly AU$3000.
Mint Boxed Sixknight ($400), Metrotitan ($820), Dai Atlas ($700), Road Fire ($700), plus $50 shipping.
Metrotitan and Sixknight had the shill bidder, but I won Metrotitan without the shill bidder affecting the final price. Dai Atlas didn't get any bids at $800, and Road Fire was just listed at $800. Both looked to be mint and white (and Dai Atlas was NOT the KO C888-version)... which is hard to find with these ones. I wasn't too keen to spend $800 on Road Fire though, as it is about half the size of Dai Atlas.
Offering $600 each plus postage, he came back with $700 each including postage. (postage wasn't going to be much since I was already paying $50 for the Metrotitan... but seeing the current selling rates of these in worse condition, and getting combined shipping, I figured, what the hell)

Now to see if they show up, and if they arrive in one piece.

JP Gen1 toys are way too expensive now... I don't think I've spent this much at once on TFs toys since Grand Maximus. :(
That should be my expensive JP purchase for the year.

Looking at their past auctions, it is really suspicious that a lot of them have 2 or 3 shill bidders, probably to make it look less suspicious (a bidding war between shill bidders just might convince someone that the item is actually worth that much and bid again).
Or they are being targeted by someone else who doesn't like them, and are just wanting to vandalise/sabotage their auctions.

(if you're ever offered a second chance after you lose to a shill bidder, haggle the price to something closer to what you would have won it at if there was no shill bidder... if the seller refuses to budge on price, then you know that they were in league with the shill bidder to squeeze more money out of you and report it to ebay)

:o, I just did a quick search and Wow!, prices have sure risen since I last checked a couple months ago, I remember seeing them for around a $100 Brand new. Your $75 auction price is fair, but I'm not too thrilled with the Bin price since it's a loose figure. :o:p

As a general point for everyone, if you're researching the value of a TF (or any item) on eBay you need to be searching for completed auctions - anyone can list an incomplete G1 Twin Twist with a starting price of $500, but it's the finishing price that's important. Most high-price BIN auctions never actually sell and are just eternally relisted.

In this case: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=animated+blackout&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc (Red means the auction didn't sell, green means it did sell)

I will leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine an appropriate value...

The pair of incomplete prototypes are likely to be one-offs, with a starting bid of US$995 (no bids yet, and just 15 hours to go).
It's actually their third time listing it in the last month (http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&item=181397582147&pt=US_Action_Figures&_osacat=0&LH_Complete=1&hash=item2a3c237143&_ssn=another_buy&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xtrans formers&_nkw=transformers&_sacat=0&_from=R40), dropping the price by about $100 each time. They have so many prototypes, they'd have had to have been a Hasbro employee, or someone really close to one. (many of them are selling for less than $100 though, because there isn't much demand for prototypes of released items... and there are so many KOs out there that could easily replicate a prototype's colours)

Recent discussion about purple Autobots had me looking for the JP purple redeco of Elita-1 from 2010 (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Elita-One_%28Movie%29#Transformers_.282010.29), and I found this listing of a large quantity (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Takara-Tomy-TRANSFORMERS-AA-08-Elita-1-ONE-Figure-/171158426257?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item27d9d65291) for US$39 with free shipping. The packaging didn't have any Japanese on it, but apparently that's how it was released in Japan in 2010 (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/extensive-look-at-autobot-alliance-aa08-elita1/20235/).
(the seller is from China, and on ebay for 10 years - they have a lot of other Transformers, some that are pretty cheap that have free shipping)

Are the Energon leaders truly classed as prototypes?
They are redecos of figures already produced... albeit in different shades.
He's got quite a few test shots there.
The Energon ones don't look very appealing and the thing about Hasbro is that they may very well release these guys in these colors in the future or as official Botcon toys... Then that $995 would seriously not be worth it.

Given that the other ones on sale on ebay are around $1K (and I think have been sitting there for at least a year) this prob boosted the price. Looking at the bidding activity, there were a few bidders who took multiple stabs at this after losing their initial max bids. Some bidder called a***n has been taking multiple punts on this guys auctions. Dropped over 350 bids in the last month. 21% bidding activity on the bloke with the MP8x. Also bidding on quite a few other masterpieces from the same seller. I'd like to think he's a legit fan with cash to burn.

As others have mentioned there is a pristine MP8x for sale on these boards. If anyone has the cash for this, support local, support the Australian economy and buy Megatran's!! :)

That's going to annoy a lot of people... especially the person who just spent $770 on that Ebay auction.
It's also like the reissue of Ehobby Sunstorm and other limited edition figures, in that people valued the figure, expecting that it would remain valuable, never to be more than the (1000) original units.
I'm wondering if someone at TakaraTomy has seen the secondary price of this item, and is cashing in (by charging over $200 for a toy that will be about $100 in America at the same time - the MP3 Grimlock).

If that scalper guy really did make $13K from 13 MP-08X's, he's got the funds to lap up all the pre-orders from BBTS (which would cost him just $5k+) and maybe scalp again at similar scalper-rates 6 months later.

One of those random unreleased items that had at least a few packaged samples made... so it would be interesting to know if the toys inside are hand-painted samples, because they never went into mass-production.
This is the TF2 movie multipack from 2012 called "Sideways Sneak Attack" (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Sideways-Sneak-Attack-Arcee-Elita-1-Chromia-exclusive-/310952265705?nma=true&si=RW11U%252ByiWKMCqQA%252FOdvfguANmHc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557), which had three Legends motorbikes (Arcee, Chromia, Elita-1) and a Sideways toy with a paint deco looking like it had been cut in half (by Sideswipe at the start of the Movie).
It was supposed to be a Target exclusive in America... but the drop off of interest in the TF2 Movie toys by 2010 meant cutting back on a number of planned items. (which occurred again for the TF3 movie)

The auction has ended, but looks to have gone over AU$600!
(the link is worth checking for some nice big photos of the two sides of the box)

Doing a search, I found that one had hit ebay in October 2010 from a Chinese seller (which could have been for the Factory to use as a template), so this one could be that Chinese one still floating around... or a sample produced for the American (Hasbro) office.
Either way, it's probably bittersweet for the new owner, as it is probably rarer than the Gen2 Protectobots, but would attract a lot less attention by other fans as it is a Movie-verse toy.
Definitely an investment piece, so I wonder if they'll open it to get the short-lived news attention by fansites of what the actual toys look like, or leave it sealed to keep the value intact.

Now, if only the "Megatron Rising" set showed up as well... as it was the other TF2 multi-pack to get cancelled. (it had Voyager Megatron with barnacles decoed onto it, and 4 of the Constructicons)

Is it just me or does this auction (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TRANSFORMERS-Beast-Wars-Megatron-Optimus-Primal-G1-Action-Figure-Toy-/321421789831?pt=AU_Action_Figures&hash=item4ad63b4a87) look like the Takara versions of Optimus Primal and Megatron? It's an Australian auction, too.

They do indeed appear to be the Takara releases eh? - Someone needs to jump on these in which case at that price!, especially if you're after a Transmetal Megatron that wont shatter in your hands. ;)

Yep. Looks exactly like mine. Grab 'em if you're after them cause they are great toys and fantastically screen accurate.

The seller is Hydra/Andrew Hall... who will be hosting a panel at BotCon this year.

He just sold a lot of JP figures it seems... probably to cover BotCon expenses. (he always has a dealer table there as well, so I'm surprised he didn't just bring most of them with him)

Even a broken Galaxy Shuttle went for over US$300...

But a poor original (loose) Stepper only went for about $20, thanks to the reissue. (does that to most original figures that are not sealed)

Wow, I just saw this today, according to Seibertron or TFW, I can't remember who, this is the first example of a stickered motormaster, Serious collectors only please.!!!!

I'm guessing over $15000.

That is phenomenal. I've never seen the G2 Stunticons with stickers before (or even sealed for that matter). Motormaster's stickers look so wacky!

If I were a super rich, high end collector I'd base my bid on individual value. I'd break it down to $5k for each of the cars and $9k for Motormaster.

I agree with Griff; this set will exceed $25k

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/991687-complete-g2-menasor-ebay.html

At about page 25 (or 250 posts) the seller has posted up more photos of the toys in their bags, plus the two unreleased Auto-rollers (which ended up getting done in Japan during the Beast Wars era in different colours).
They are likely to be on ebay soon as well.

TFW is likely to archive the images somewhere, but the seller said that they'd remove them after the auction is over... so go copy them while they are there (if you can).

Also listed by that seller on ebay is a carded Laser-Cycle Jazz (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNRELEASED-Transformers-Generation-2-JAZZ-Laser-Cycle-/181451812203?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2a3f5eed6b) (also unreleased Gen2 toy), plus a carded Gen2 Breakdown (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNRELEASED-Botcon-1994-Transformers-Generation-2-BREAKDOWN-S3-Stunticons-/181451804701?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2a3f5ed01d) (which could be one of the 600 produced in 1994 for BotCon and AFXcon). It doesn't make it any cheaper though, as the bidding shows that there is more demand for the Breakdown (which we know 600 exist) than the Lasercycle Jazz (which there is likely to only be 5 or 6).

Too early for a bidding war. Check it again in four days. The last one finished at around $2k I believe.
I think it had a sticker over the artwork instead of the instruction manual though.

Although it seems odd that breakdown is going so high already.

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right thread, but it is eBay. Been meaning to ask you all this for a few days now. I just bought Encore #20A Devastator from eBay a few days ago and here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111393824295

Can someone verify that this item is authentic Takara? I just found that the box colours and the back of the box looks different from my other Encore boxes and the seller is of no help at all. I wouldn't want to pay so much for some high class knock-off item.

Thanks for the help.

It's legitimate.
The 20A is to differentiate it from the regular release of Encore 20 Devastator. Differences include paint schemes closer to the cartoon, a new head sculpt for their combined mode & only one file card of Devastator.

Plus, some small Titanium prototypes as well.

He's put a lot of blood and sweat into it. His AFA stuff is done by himself (ie: he did not buy it already in the AFA state). That is why he has so much MOSC / MISB stuff... he will have a few of them and then chose the best to AFA. Lots of dedication.

I've bought a few less rare pieces off him privately, but has urged that he just list the stuff. I'm also bidding on a few pieces too. See how it goes.

(Matt, btw, the Smokey got here and i was floored to find out its a box variant compared to the one i have!!)

Cool, looking forward to a write up on them!

But in a bunch of best offers, they were all ignored to expiration, and now some of the listings have been taken down because "item no longer available."

Boo-urns.

Looks like Lena81822 has received a shipment of Classics OPtimus Prime from the Then and Now pack, Rollbar from the Breakout Battle pack and Generations Crosscut & Orion Pax. Be careful if you order from them as i have been waiting for ages for a 30yr minicon exclusive to arrive, also bought a Rollbar from the breakout pack and the left shoulder is superglued in. Also have ordered a boltflash minicon twice and after questioning why it had not arrived they replied that they had sold out and only refunded one of them. It seems they post multiple picuters for items and only have one of that particular item. So i have not had a good experience ordering TF's from them .

Interesting to hear. I've bought a fair few items from them but never had problems. Shall proceed with caution...

My previous items from them have had no issues.

I did pick up a Roll Bar and received it last Thursday (in 4 business days). Everything looked good except for the right side-mirror which was bent in. Appears to be a manufacturing error as opposed to damage, since there is no fatigue on the part.

just curious about a couple of things. I've seen this 'lena81822' mentioned a couple of times. having just bought mp-13 I need the casettes and saw these:

Extremely cheap..and seller is saying definitely not KO. Thoughts?

I was looking through ebay for some FOC figures and this post for the 30th Anniversary figures popped up:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lot-30-Transformers-30th-Anniversary-Figure-OPTIMUS-PRIME-BUMBLEBEE-2014-W64W65-/351133482988?pt=AU_Action_Figures&hash=item51c12fbfec

I have purchased from this seller in the past, however I am unsure of the quality of these particular figures. Note, it is the figure and the stands only (no cards). I myself have the G1 set from TRU, however those of you who are interested might find it worth a look. Not a bad deal considering the figs are normally $4/5 each (if you can find the ones you are chasing).

Good luck!

That's incredible! there might be $15 worth of actual Hasbro product in that lot. I hope no one gets sucked into buying this mess.

looks like someone got sucked in for 590, then item was relisted and someone else got sucked in for 490..?

They are KOs though. Haven't looked closely at the figs but the alpha numerical code on the bases are missing.

Just stumbled on a loose SDCC Knights of Unicron Jazz. It doesn't appear to have any of the soft goods

Very very bad english translation there... but it looks like he's trying to assure people that it is the real thing. Based on their history of items, I'd imagine that these are legit.

This person appears to work at the factory (or scavenges their trash), as they often have pre-packaged figures that are either excess (the factory produces a dozen or so more than they have packaging for) or failed Quality-Control checks (missing or damaged parts).
They are not KOs... but it is still a lucky dip as to the quality and inclusion of all accessories & parts.

I don't enthusiastically advocate buying his items, but he has been the source of some cancelled items, that the factory must have done a test-run of about 10-20 units, but then didn't go into full production. (like - Animated Activator Soundwave, DOTM Soundblaster)

Two weeks ago he listed some pretty interesting finds - Unreleased Movie Gunbarrel (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Gunbarrel_(Movie)) (without packaging, and pretty sure it was missing its Energon star). Sorry, can't find his specific completed listing as he used a generic name - doubt he realised how elusive the figure is. He had about 3 of them and they sold for roughly $17  The full set along with Reverb (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Reverb_(Movie)) and Backtrack (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Backtrack_(Movie)) cost me $150 to hunt down.
