* Transformers- Dark Of The Moon MEGATRON **MISB** (#280608027647)

Must've been legit

It wasn't a legit bid - that was a shill bidder, and thus it wasn't really hand delivered since no transaction actually took place. The guy may actually have access to someone with the toys, but he doesn't have them in hand now and - despite the fact that I was the highest real bidder at $65 and it 'sold' for $66 - he's 'kindly' offered to sell me one at $160.

Very dodgy. Even if he has the toy(s), I wouldn't waste my time on him, or pay that much for something that could only be only a prototype at this point in time.

I asked the Buyer (Shill bidder) to send specific pics to see whether he actually got the toy. Heres the reply

:I'm currently out of town, will take a pic for u when i get back. I haven't taken him out of the box yet, as i was in a hurry to leave town. But for how much I've got it for, i think i got a bargin, a friend of mine working at Big W said they are trying to get those exclusively from Hasbro and put them on the shelves for $160 retail... I might get more from the buyer if that's the case, he offered me a bulk price of $115 if i buy 5 or more. From the outside it's definately worth the money, it's about 15-17cm tall, and it's very detailed, if you know what i mean, some movie toys look really cheap but this one doesn't.. haven't got my ironhide yet but it's another exellent make from the picture.

It's such a retarded and pointless scam. Seriously, how stupid is this guy if he thinks he can convince people that a voyager is going to be sold at retail at $160. And - surprise, surprise, the same 'bidder' has bid again on the currently-listed Megatron.

The trademark symbol above the final 'S' in the Transformers logo is a 'TM' instead of an '(R)'. This is because Hasbro had not yet registered the trademark at the time these toys were manufactured.

There are some other differences but the above is the main one and easily distinguishable.

I'm just a little confused having just picked up the end of this conversation, but how can you tell if there are shill bidders in an auction?

1. The bidder usually only bids in one person's auctions.
2. They bid a high amount which drags up other people's bids, then after the auction the seller offers 'another' identical item to the other bidders.
3. The bidder keeps bidding on the same items even after they've already won one previously.
4. Common sense.

It happens a lot, but eBay almost never does anything about it.

Wow, I'm not sure that I've ever come across it before, I always bid what I'm prepared to spend and leave it at that. I do remember a few years ago people scamming with electronic drumkits, I did report some and now there are hardly any on eBay at all.

Yeh I recently managed to pick up a bundle of vintage carbacks/boxes/bubbles from the UK for under $4 each. I think it really depends on whether or not there are other collectors currently hunting the same packaging (as you) for a certain G1 character. Since these aren't quite as abundant as the figures themselves, it only takes 2-3 furious bidders to jack up the end price

It's not worth $75. The display is actually taken from the Transformers G1 Punch-Out book (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/transformers-g1-punch-out-book-pics-170482/) which I have and bought for approx. $20. Wow is right Liege, that is a hell of a collection/resource - Cataloguing and setting up that webpage must've taken stellar cycles!
Thanks for that 5FDP, Bookmarked for future reference - that's got to be on par with the TFwiki in terms of information depth.

Sure they're pretty cool and ultra rare, but wouldn't a AFA graded MIB/MISB item containing the actual toy be less than those prices? :p

You'd think that the actual box containing the toy would be less wouldn't you. The thing is these are production samples making them ultra-rare.

I wouldn't be paying that much even if I had money to throw away, however because these have not appeared on eBay before the seller is able to set the market price for them. Buyers then have the ultimate say if they are worth that much. He could be stuck with them for a very long time :p

None of that description is accurate. The toy's not Megatron, not from the early 1990s, has been reissued (first as Megastorm in 1998, without electronics, then that neutered version was later reissued in Korea - which is what the toy from that auction actually is.)

Jimoinj is a member here, so I doubt it was intentional. He probably just doesn't know much about JP Transformers and didn't know that it was re-released in a JP series. It's in similar colours, so is an easy mistake to make if unfamiliar with JP TFs. He probably just guessed it was an Asian version of Gen2 Megatron, and wrote the description around what he did know of the Gen2 toy.

Fair enough... but you do realise that Generations TC is just around the corner?

As for the quality of the KO, I think he pretty much summed it up in his description:

There are some scuff marks on Thundercracker’s left knee and the chrome on his left missile launcher is scuffed/faded. Both of these paint issues were manufacturer faults and were already there when I opened the package. Please refer to photo.
He is loose in some joints and the firing mechanisms in his launchers don’t work too well but once again it was like that straight out of the packaging.

This one is really a bargain. I saw it last night and I'm surprised that it's still available...

TRANSFORMERS Japanese E HOBBY BLUESTREAK MISB RARE G1 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400188224678&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com.au%3A80%2F%3F_from%3 DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570%26_nkw%3D400188224678%26_sac at%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1)

To give you an idea on how much this is a bargain, some of you would remember it was one of my 'grails' over a year ago and I paid double the price.

This one's been on ebay for months and it's $30 cheaper (and definitely ships to Australia): http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TRANSFORMERS-E-HOBBY-anime-SILVERSTREAK-ehobby-RARE-/350427908587?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51972189eb

Shill bidder has successfully pushed up price in 3/4 auctions. Keep watch to see how he pushes it up more before the auction ends, out bidding the final bidder then offering them a second chance at "their" highest price.

I was about to say 'thanks for making me feel even worse' but then I read...

I would say it is like "NEW" because when I bought it one side of the box has 2 tapes (all factory tapes but the 1st layer is cut-off) the other has 1 tape. :D

Bugger, didn't realise the Micromasters had been KOed. I bought a sealed set of the Military Patrol recently because I wanted Growl (to go with the upcoming FP release).

Was only $25, but didn't think the later-year G1 stuff had been KOed so didn't even consider that.

At least I'm not as pissed about the card being bent in shipping due to poor packing now :)

If you bought a Military Patrol, it's okay, it wasn't a knockoff - it was a waterlogged warehouse find.

Nah, I just checked iOffer, and it looks like they have been KOed (http://www.ioffer.com/i/Transformers-G1-MICOMASTER-Reissue-KO-100-New--123989655).

And I opened the pack, and they feel like cheap plastic.

Pretty cool team though. Hasbro should give Breacher a new head and repaint him as Dropshot:

Double taping is a very common occurrence during those early days of reissues - so not surprised is silver streak is doubletaped. Back in the day, I had opened loads of cash fresh reissues and ehobby reissues and usually more than half the case would have been doubletaped with the first tape cut, right out of the carton. I think it was some factory inspection or customs thing... Chances are this piece is a double taped "misb" toy...

Those aren't actually knockoffs - as I said, they're real Micromasters from the 80s-90s, just waterlogged stock from a European warehouse. That has to be one of the first cases of a person selling real Transformers as knockoffs!

It's actually pretty easy to tell, Hursticon - just check out the places where the Transformers logo should be. The ones in the auction you linked to say 'Micro Metamorphs', 'Micro Race Car Patrol', 'Battle Patrol' etc. where it should say Transformers:

Really? Well that's cool then. The card didn't seem too water damaged but quite a few of the metal parts had some kind of oxidation (not rust, more of a whitish, sandpapery appearance) which looks like it could have been caused by moisture.

Now I wish I'd been slightly more careful opening the bubble. :o

That's Toywiz for you though. They're probably one of the most expensive places to buy from. I've only ever bought from them once and that was because my dad went to NY. It was the eHobby Overcharge toy and I got it for US$60, which was kinda cheap for them. I must of bought the second to last one because they jacked-up the price to US$120 days after.

There was only one other person bidding on it (within the last 10 secs of it concluding as well)... I guess I was prepared to pay a lot more than him (and was more patient to let the clock tick down further). :D

I think also not having the item title correctly listed may have affected the outcome (as a lot of people would not have seen the listing).

Why it wasn't listed as Transformers THS-02B Hybrid Black Convoy is beyond me... but I guess it worked in my favour. ;)

Yep they are real, I own those sets.

Someone found boxes of them in a warehouse a couple of years ago. They are unsold stock straight from the factory that remained sealed in storage for two decades and have never been opened so they look as if they were only manufactured recently.

I know exactly who this seller is. He tried to sell me these exact same items for those prices and I told him him that for the condition they are in, he should go take a hike. Had the audacity to tell me that the diaclone Swoop box, alone, is worth US$600. Surprising then, that no one jumped at the chance to buy his Swoop 'box' even with the Swoop in it for US$600+.

I think your wallet just got up and hit the bolts man. Collecting G1 is a bank breaker for the average working class citizen :p

Still, it's a great avenue for collecting. I'm surprised you haven't gotten into it yet - considering Blitzwing and Hound must hold at least some sentimental value for you.

Just a heads up to anyone that saw this Star Saber pop up on ebay aus: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Transformers-Victory-Star-Saber-/260739011808?pt=AU_Action_Figures&hash=item3cb54194e0

I am 99% sure that is actually my old Star Saber - I bought it from ebay UK several years back for about $50 or $60. About 2 or 3 years back I put it up on ebay AU as I was never going to get around to fixing and completing it, from memory it sold for about $90 or so. ANYWAY the important part is that the sword hilt / plane nose cone is from a vintage KO. If I remember correctly it features chrome parts while the original uses yellow. You can kind of see it in the pictures. I made this very clear in the auction when I sold it but I don't know how many times it has changed hands since and perhaps this info was lost on the way.

EDIT: Looking back through my feedback history I sold it to this seller in November 2008.

Megatron has a day to go and no bids, with a 0.99 start.
I think he's factoring some of the price into his shipping, because there's
no way a loose magtron would cost $35 within australia to post.
It really annoys the hell out of me went people scalp you on shipping, to make the buying price look smaller.

It's also to make their cut to eBay smaller, as the Final Value Fee is $/% based and doesn't include shipping.

Can't seem to find the previous post highlighting the recent (Local Australian) MIB G1 Reflector auction - but HOLY COW the bids finished at $320!? I thought I had it in the bag at $200  If someone from the board won that auction - I'm throwing my support behind its originality. All signs point to a legit mailaway set IMO.

Now this one below has me bemused. Was posted here as well by one of the members but can't remember who. This auction had a starting bid of $50 and a Buy it Now of $100. The auction ran the full 7-10 day course. I've seen this happen time and time again on ebay Australia and it still confuses me. Why are people are so afraid to hit that BIN button and at the same time be so trigger happy with the bids?

I'd say it's legit. Contrary to popular speculation, I don't know of any concrete evidence that Sky Garry has been KO-ed, just that about 3 years back, there was a huge warehouse find in Japan of cases and cases of Sky Garry's which subsequently flooded the market. I know the 2 SG shop owners who was right there in the factory and who spilt the lot between themselves.

valkyrie_76
23rd February 2011, 09:37 PM
I know someone else was asking about if Sky Garry has been KO'd before and it should be no and as HD has pointed out, they are available and going pretty cheap.
