ah, this guy does it all the time. He has variously sold Star Saber, Victory Leo, Overlord and many other Jap exclusives separately (ie: body, parts, etc).

I bought my Victory Leo guns and Star Saber blade (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2009/10/parts-and-pieces-leozack-auction-and.html) from him sometime last year.

It's only recently that 'accurate' looking knockoffs became such a big thing. 99% of them are always going to be weird shaped, weird sized things with a weird head, made from whatever coloured plastic is lying around. The point isn't to make something that looks 'real' it's to make something cheaply and easily that they can sell.

I bought my TM Blurr for something like $50. Most of the Autobot TMs that I have I bought at around the same price too. I have also seen them go for that price a few times on ebay.

However the 'new' Decepticon Targetmasters go for at least double (often more). The 'old 86' Target Masters like Cyclonus can go between $110-$150 while Scourge goes for crazy prices.

What I don't understand at all about this AFA stuff is... why would anyone pay big money for an AFA graded anything - in this case Ultra Magnus - when if you really wanted one you could just buy a MISB Ultra Magnus for a fraction of the cost, get it AFA graded yourself for a fraction of the cost, and save hundreds of (or in this case a thousand) dollars. The inflated AFA rates on eBay make no sense.

It's yellowed.. any yellowing like that on a Jetfire can't be classified as "This Jetfire is in excellent condition".

Even though this doesn't interest me in the slightest, this may be good news for those wanting to buy loose figures without the worry of getting scammed and purchasing a KO.

correct me if i'm wrong,
but they've been doing that with Gi-Joe and star wars figures for ages.
its cos people have MOSC or MISB items but the card or boxes are pretty fuct up and not worth grading, so they grade just the figure inside which should have been sealed and uncirculated.

i reckon its just another ploy to try and sell items at higher prices and/or another way for AFA to make money from people who ordinarily would not have graded an item.

I was actually expecting all the Cassettes to each go close to $1000, and the Heads to each get at least $500, as their values had been trending up in that direction in previous listings.
Maybe the demand in these rare JP toys is finally levelling off or even dropping off, as the fans who were around long enough to know these toys enough, to want them as toys and not as investments, are now more rapidly shrinking in number. After all, these were toys from 23 years ago, which would make the common age of those most interested in toys of this era to be 33-40 years old now. Plus, these were all toys few in the Hasbro/Western market even knew about before the internet, so the nostalgia element is probably only to fans of its closest 'degree of separation' (US Gen1), for those that are predomenatly 'Gen1 fans'. In other words, fans since (like BW fans or Movie fans) may through association buy other Western TFs like US Gen1, but it would take a second 'degree of separation' to start looking at JP Gen1 and want to start collecting them as well.
Since I've noticed that the proportion of 30+ year old fans at BotCons in recent years is noticeably shrinking - even though these old toys are getting rarer on secondary markets like ebay, so are the people who still want them.

One thing I never seem to hear about is if a significant gen1-nostalgic fan community still exists in Japan. I never see any JP fan presence on the 'Hasbro/Western' fansites. And various fan-targetted toys from TT seem to make a bigger impression in Nth America, UK and South East Asia (or at least end up sold off to other countries). Have their original Gen1 fans all grown up as well?

Hmmm, am sorta thinking it would be worth having no BotCon spending money if I won Grand Max for a decent price...
Then again, it is sealed, so will fetch several thousand. And 'mistakenly' listing it as Fort Max will probably get more attention, as it is probably searched more by the US collectors than the non-US Grand Max. If the other items weren't mis-spelled, I would have thought it was a tactic, to get more (US) people seeing it.

Intriguing... two Botcon Banzai-Trons in consecutive years? Really? And for a G2 convention? Surely Banzai-Tron would only be G2 to a Geewunner - that would add him as another confusingly non-G2 exclusive along with Sky-Byte and Slicer/Shattered Glass Wheeljack.

I got really excited about this and another unreleased wave 5 Target Movie scout toy when listed last week, but now it seems they may not be that rare after all...
Either quite a few were produced as samples, or the high-ish price of one set on ebay has got a few other people jumping on the bandwagon and cashing in.

The owner of the Seibertron website has put up two sets on ebay, and mentions in the 'news' topic (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/auctions-for-never-released-movie-scouts-online/18488/)that he has another set to keep. Plus, one person in the topic mentions that they have set, and that there was a set on ebay recently that fetched $150.
I'd never seen them before last week (didn't even think they had existed), and now it seems like heaps of people have them.

I like it. The Autobot symbol looks out of place though. I know it's there because the actual Animated box art has the "Clip-on wings!" text, but if I had the skills to make a G1 style box, I would have taken the time to fix this.
